20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for Alita: Battle Angel. This movie has been a passion project for James Cameron over the last 15 years. He ended up handing over the directing reigns to Robert Rodriquez and today we have our first real look at what this creative team has envisioned for the film. Personally, I love what I'm seeing in this trailer and I can't wait to see more! The film is currently in post-production so I imagine the special effects are still being polished, but this is still an impressive first look.
The film is based on the graphic novel series Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro, and this is the synopsis that was released:
Visionary filmmakers James Cameron (Avatar) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) create a groundbreaking new heroine in Alita: Battle Angel, an action-packed story of hope, love and empowerment. Set several centuries in the future, the...

A decade ago, Rose McGowan starred as Cherry Darling in Planet Terror, one half of Robert Rodriquez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse double-feature, but her casting actually served a double purpose which has gone unknown until now - to literally make Harvey Weinstein pay. Director Robert Rodriquez tells Variety he cast Rose McGowan in his half of the 2007 double-feature film “Grindhouse” to get back at Harvey Weinstein for his alleged rape and blacklisting of the actress. “It felt like the right move to make at the time – to literally make him pay,” he says, recounting the first time […]...

It was just yesterday that we shared David Hasselhoff’s dream to star in a Knight Rider movie in the style of Logan, an idea he pitched to Robert Rodriquez while posing for a selfie. I said there was no way in hell that movie was ever going to happen, but in doing so I made the movie gods angry. Now, it looks like a Knight Rider movie is taking shape after all, just not in the way Hasselhoff envisioned.
Screen Rant reports that the Weinstein Company is looking to reboot Knight Rider, and they’re hoping to secure John Cena and Kevin Hart to star. The film would be a comedy not unlike 21 Jump Street, with Cena playing Hasselfhoff’s classic role, Michael Knight, and Hart voicing his car, Kitt. No one has been officially cast, but Screen Rant says this is the direction the Weinstein Company is looking to go with the reboot.

David Hasselhoff is making a come back… sort off. At the very least, the Baywatch and Knight Rider star had a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 -- where he received a new nickname, Zardu Hasselfrau –- and starred in the music video for Guardians’ Inferno, a special feature for the film. If you think Hasselhoff is ready to fade back into obscurity, you’re wrong. Dead wrong. In fact, Hasselhoff has the perfect project for himself. If anyone else is interested in making it. Or seeing it…
Hasselhoff had a conversation with CinemaBlend about his role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Hasselhoff couldn’t help but pitch his dream project:
"I have met Robert Rodriguez. He does Dusk til Dawn and Machete. And I said 'You need to do Knight Rider.' Because he was doing a marathon of Knight Riders and he said 'Can we have a selfie!

Chris here, reminding you that recent Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is the gift that keeps on giving. While we haven't been able to enjoy his abilities onscreen since his Best Supporting Actor win for Moonlight, we will soon get a little something special as he costars with Lupita Nyong'o in Jay-z's much-teased (and apparently naughtily Nc-17) visual album that drops on Tidal at the end of the month. After that, he'll have supporting roles in Sundance favorite Roxanne Roxanne and Robert Rodriquez's manga adaptation Alita: Battle Angel next summer.
But speaking of waves, GQ has the actor having some fun in the sun on their newest cover. The actor is as swoonworthy as ever in both the photo spread and interview, though the article doesn't hint at any of those upcoming projects. No matter, just enjoy Ali's breeze in the rest of the spread after the jump...

After two years, Stx Entertainment has “Bad Moms,” “The Gift” … and more than a half-dozen other titles that range from near misses (“Desierto”) to outright flops (“The Bye Bye Man”). Never mind, said motion picture group chairman Adam Fogelson at his studio’s CinemaCon presentation Tuesday. He’s more than confident that his studio’s next chapter — or as he called it, “Stx 2.0” — is filled with hitmakers.

Deadpool's opening weekend proves that people will turn out R-rated comic book movies. But they have been doing since the 1970s...
Deadpool – an X-Men spin-off for Ryan Reynolds’ ‘Merc With The Mouth’ - is in cinemas now, and in spite of its R-rated tag, it's shattered the box office ceiling for February releases with a stunning $260m global opening weekend. Maybe this is the point where Hollywood realises that if it makes the right R-rated movie - Deadpool, rather than Jonah Hex - people will turn up.
That R stands for Restricted, meaning that under-17s in America will havehad to be accompanied by an adult if they wanted to see Deadpool in cinemas this weekend. It’s a 15-certificate film to me and other denizens of the British Isles, meaning that no under-15s this side of the pond will be permitted to see it in cinemas.

For the most part, I've enjoyed Kevin Smith's movies. I've enjoyed his style of filmmaking, the characters he's created, and the stories that he's told. Some I've liked more than others, but they all managed to entertain on some level. Hell, I even enjoyed Tusk because of how messed up and insane it was! So yeah, I was looking forward to seeing Yoga Hosers.
Unfortunately, the movie was awful. Yoga Hosers is Smith's worst film, and it's barely watchable. I hate that I am writing a bad review for this film, but for some reason he went out and made this absurd movie turd. As I was watching the film, all I could think about is what would possess him to waste his talent on such a thing!? Maybe he did it for his daughter so that she could star in it?

Benicio Del Toro is a pretty singular talent in the industry, so it’s never a surprise when he does worth worthy of being honored. This year, the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards have seen fit to bestow upon him the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Sicario. Of course, Del Toro more or less stole that film, so it’s a totally viable honor. He’s going to be in play for an Oscar nod in Best Supporting Actor, but regardless of if that nom happens or not, this shows how he’s still crafting memorable supporting characters. That’s always been Del Toro’s bread and butter, so this is just a perfect citation for him… Here’s part of the press release once again announcing this honor: dick clark productions announced that Academy Award-winning actor Benicio Del Toro will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award” for Sicario.

From Wonder Woman to Red Sonja, here are the female comic book projects that we’ve missed out on…
Although Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra are movies that exist, there are times when we wish they didn’t. To be honest, the ‘perfect’ female-headlined superhero movie is still the stuff of our cinematic dreams. Saying that, TV’s Agent Carter provided us with a brilliant example of bringing a female comic book character to the small screen earlier this year, which hopefully Hollywood will learn a lot from going forward.
Of course, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will be joining their respective cinematic universes soon, with Supergirl getting a pop at small screen success too. It looks like female comic book heroes will be getting the attention they deserve in the live action realm, finally.

★☆☆☆☆Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriquez have a lot to answer for. Seven years after failing to replicate the sleazy low-budget thrills of the grindhouse era, there have been numerous attempts in their wake to achieve the same thing, the majority of which have also stumbled badly. Into that mix comes Vengeance Road (2014), yet another subpar wannabe which again seems to think that substituting in-camera effects with horribly ineffective CG blood-letting is entirely acceptable. Released in the Us under the infinitely better if ridiculously lofty title 'American Muscle', it's a cheap and nasty film, minus anything much in the way of fun.

It seems every year I have this debate with myself whether or not to do a "worst of" list. Aren't the worst films of any year best forgotten, ignored, never to be mentioned againc Well, yes and no. Let's definitely forget them, but not forget the lessons they've taught us, lessons in what not to do, lessons of which 2014 was full of. Now before you go digging into this list, clicking the reviews and wondering how something that received a "D+" review could make the list over something that received a "D-", just understand grading movies isn't a science and, for me, what makes something the "worst" is very similar to what makes something the "best", it's the legacy the film holds in my mind. The films that made my "Top Ten Movies of 2014" are films I not only love, but films I hold fond memories for and would most...

Way back in 2010, director Robert Rodriquez picked up the rights to Frank Frazetta's 1983 animated fantasy film Fire and Ice. He later announced that he would start developing the film after he was done with Sin City 2, and later some concept art for the film was released that looked pretty damn rad.
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has acquired a package that gives the studio a potential franchise. I truly hope that the first movie Rodriquez makes is good enough to warrant a whole franchise of films. I really hope the film looks just as good as the concept art that we've seen.
Here's a description of the film:

★★☆☆☆Nine years after the release of 2005's Sin City, directors Robert Rodriquez and Frank Miller (who also wrote the script) reunite for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014). Not much has changed, however. As visually intoxicating as the film is on the outside, it's dimly vacant on the inside, with not even Eva Green's presence and charged performance able to hold the audiences attention. Unravelling over four vignettes (two that have been ripped from Miller's own comic-books, and two that have been written specifically for the sequel, A Dame to Kill For adheres to the same template as its predecessor. The film opens once again with the grizzled figure of Marv (Mickey Rourke), abandoned at the roadside with no memory.

Maybe I wasn’t paying attention, but was there some sort of insatiable demand for another "Sin City" movie? The first one released in 2005 wasn’t what one would call a huge box office smash, but it did make a profit and was a genuine visual stunner. But unless I’m mistaken, it never even developed any sort of massive cult following. But after nine years, The Weinstein Co. thought it was a good idea (or a desperate one) to make another one with Frank Miller and Robert Rodriquez behind the camera, and this time in 3D. The problem is that no one was really interested in seeing it. True that these are, as I said in my box office report last week, the dog...

In 2005, director Robert Rodriquez transformed author Frank Miller’s neo-noir graphic novel Sin City into a stunning, cutting-edge film. Rodriguez, adoringly making a living comic book, utilized a groundbreaking mix of digital style and animated renderings. Sin City: A Dame To Kill For is a continuing story involving old and new characters.
Miller, who also co-directed, utilizes an established story as inspiration, but also includes two new tales. The narrative, somewhat fragmented, is again a gritty crime noir piece with intensified aesthetics of violence, sex, and revenge. Rodriguez and Miller keep everything relatively familiar and, although “Dame” wields uncompromising style into every scene, it doesn’t demand much more.
No one is innocent in Sin City. Some familiar faces are still dodging their demise, but a few new ones looking for trouble also journey about Sin City’s desperate streets. Nancy (Jessica Alba) hasn’t been the same since the...

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

USA, 2014
When Sin City exploded into theaters in 2005, we had never seen anything like it. It was a resounding declaration that digital filmmaking had finally arrived. The new Robert Rodriquez-Frank Miller collaboration, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, may lack the novelty and humanity of its predecessor, but it still manages to (re)capture the same bonkers spirit. Much like its leading ladies, Dame eventually seduces you with its gorgeousness and gore. It isn’t nearly as accomplished as Sin City, but the amazing visuals and audacious style will help this dame show you a good time.
Frank Miller’s script isn’t a puzzle to be solved so much as a circuitous diversion to mess with your melon. Some of the stories in Dame take place before the events of Sin City,...

The followup to 2005's eye-popping Sin City is neither the dazzler I hoped for nor the disaster I feared. But "meh" is hardly the reaction you expect from a movie in which Eva Green and Jessica Alba shake their ta-tas and Mickey Rourke and Josh Brolin send souls screaming into hell. And this time they do it in 3-D. Fighters and femme fatales are the staples of Frank Miller's just-famed graphic novels. And Robert Rodriquez was wise to ask Miller to join him again to direct. Last night, it was revealed that Lethal Weapon creator and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black has set his sights on rebooting the Predator franchise for Twentieth Century Fox. He will write a treatment for the movie before handing over screenwriting duties to longtime friend and collaborator Fred Dekker (Monster Squad).
Since the original was released in 1987 with Arnold Schwarzenegger, a sequel (Predator 2) followed three years later before a reboot of sorts from producer Robert Rodriquez in 2010. Fox also attempted to combine this series with the Alien franchise for two Alien vs. Predator movies released in 2004 and 2007.
However, none of the releases listed above managed to ever really recreate the magic of the original, and Shane Black has his hands full when it comes to doing the beloved – and iconic – alien justice. Below, you’ll find just five things we believe will go a long way in helping the filmmaker save this dying franchise.

In a city without justice, outlaws become heroes – and this is very much the case in Robert Rodriquez’s upcoming sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, which is based on the graphic novels of Frank Miller.
Basin City, the aforementioned “sin city,” is overrun with greed, lust, and a whole gamut of crime. Poor, sweet Becky (Alexis Bledel) didn’t have a chance.
Johnny, a gambler (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Ava (Eva Green), Dwight McCarthy’s (both Josh Brolin and Clive Owen) duplicitous former lover, are the newcomers to this neo-noir, joining returning Basin City residents Marv (Mickey Rourke), John Hartigan (Bruce Willis), and Nancy (Jessica Alba). Sin City: A Dame to Kill For also starsRay Liotta, Rosario Dawson, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, and Lady Gaga.

From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, Episode 4, Season 1,“Let’s Get Ramblin”
Written by Marcel Rodriquez
Directed by Robert Rodriquez
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on El Rey Network
“I don’t feel safe with you anymore, you don’t feel like yourself. I don’t think I can trust you”
As has been evident since the pilot, From Dusk till Dawn: The Series is a show that despite any of its issues, knows exactly what it is and where it wants to go. It is, at points, relentlessly violent and over the top; it is insanely campy and fun. It also features exceptional chemistry between its leads D.J. Cotrona and series standout Zane Holtz, who are frequently given the show’s best dialogue. Plus there is, for now, an intriguing central plotline. All of that camp and blood might not work and could make the show dreadful but somehow,...

Unfortunately, I live in one of those areas of the United States that is slow to pick up channels like Chiller, FearNet and even Robert Rodriguez’s new network El Rey. One carrier might carry the network or maybe every carrier except for mine. Regardless, Scream Factory – the best in the business in genre home entertainment – is eliminating the obstacle of seeing Chiller’s original content by bringing last year’s The Monkey’s Paw to Blu-Ray & DVD. The film is directed by Brett Simmons (Husk) and has a screenplay by Macon Blair (who is amazing in Blue Ruin but you’ve seen his acting abilities in Murder Party and, more recently, Hellbenders) based off of W.W. Jacobs’ original short story. We have the full details on when you can get your paws on The Monkey’s Paw.

From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, Season 1, Episode 1, “Pilot”
Written by Robert Rodriquez
Directed by Robert Rodriquez
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on El Rey Network
Robert Rodriquez’s 1996 cult classic From Dusk till Dawn is a flawed but ultimately surprising, fun, and witty gore-fest sendup of vampire movies. Surprisingly the TV adaptation, for Rodriquez’s channel the El Rey Network, is just as much fun as its source material.
From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, much like the movie, knows exactly what it is. This is not highbrow entertainment. This is pulpy cult gore at its best. One of the most enjoyable things about the movie was the surprising genre changeup halfway through the film. The show makes up for this lack of surprise by expanding on what we didn’t see in the movie, such as the Gecko brothers’ botched bank robbery, which we see flashes of here.

The 90s were anything but boring when it came to what was playing at your local movie multiplex. Quentin Tarantino was finding news ways to portray extreme violence, monologues and homages to long forgotten films with efforts like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction while Robert Rodriquez was attempting to revive the true B-action movie with his own efforts such as El Mariachi and Desperado; and those are just the tip of the iceberg known as the 90s independent film movement.
The 90s were full of these movies and breakout artistic voices, however the independent movie that defines the 90s the most is Kevin Smith’s Clerks. The 1994 black and white adventure, brought to audiences courtesy of Miramax pictures, showed two underachievers working their dead end jobs whilst complaining about women, the collateral damage in Star Wars, and various other life grievances.

Director Robert Rodriquez and writer Frank Miller are still working to get the sequel to their 2005 hit Sin City completed, and now there is a poster to prove it. The sequel, which was previously set for an October 2013 release, has been pushed back to August 22, 2014. At least principle filming has been completed.
The long-delayed Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is still eight months away from release but the poster for the movie is out. The poster seems to indicate that the new film is going to be done in the same stylized black-and-white technique as the first.
The production has been fraught with problems and delays ever since the sequel was first announced. Rodriquez had first hoped to have the sequel done by 2007 but the proposed star Angelina Jolie dropped out. The failure of Grindhouse caused a pitfall in Rodriquez’s finances and reputation, delaying the sequel even further.

The fact that the first Machete was ever made into a feature film was something of a miracle. It started life as a simple fake trailer meant to tag along for the ride that was Quentin Tarantino’s and Robert Rodriquez’s double feature, Grindhouse. It ended up being the few minutes of the whole three hour cinematic experience that people responded to the most.
A few years later, love from fans lead to Danny Trejo’s first lead role as…Machete. Two sequels were planned, the first of which hit theaters this year. It didn’t light up the box office, so most can assume a third outing to finish the trilogy shouldn’t be expected.
In light of not many people showing up to see Machete on the big screen, the “fake trailer” for Machete Kills Again…In Space recently landed online giving us a glimpse at the...

If you aren't hip with Robert Rodriquez' style by now Machete Kills is, by all accounts, as good as any film to start despite it being a sequel. You'd be hard pressed to find a filmmaker who has kept his "shoot from the hips" approach as fresh as it was when Robert shot El Mariachi more than twenty years ago. Even though this is the second Machete installment, I still get that giddy feeling seeing Danny Trejo's face on the poster... Twice the size as anyone else - headlining his own...

Chicago – Director Robert Rodriguez continues his “grindhouse” cinematic ways with his latest film, “Machete Kills.” This sequel to 2010’s “Machete,” the film is a gleeful celebration of 1970s exploitation films, villains played by familiar celebrities and the indestructible hero named Machete, portrayed by Danny Trejo.
Director Robert Rodriguez is a venerable do-it-yourself filmmaker. He broke through twenty years ago with his 16mm film classic, “El Mariachi,” and has followed that debut with a series of stylish comic book films like “Desperado” (1995), “From Dusk Till Dawn” (1996) “Sin City” (2005) and the four “Spy Kids” movies. The character of Machete first appeared as a fake 1970s-style trailer in “Grindhouse” (2007), which also featured Rodriguez’s film “Planet Terror.” Another Sin City movie is scheduled for 2014, subtitled “A Dame to Kill For.”

Sylvester Stallone, the mind behind the Expendables series, as well as the star, has announced that Mel Gibson will have a major role in the third film in the series. In fact, he will be playing the main bad guy.
Gibson’s reputation has suffered due to some bad press in recent years and this may be what he needs to make a comeback. Gibson joins recent cast additions Harrison Ford and Antonio Banderas . A lot has changed since Alan Jones from Total Film coined the term Splat Pack referring to a group of gory movie makers who sought to stretch the boundaries of what would be considered acceptable in an R rated film. The sea of blood and guts that rolled across the cinema screen starting in 2002 gradually pulled back to low tide. PG-13 became the new R rating once again and the MPAA decided to pull itself up by its bootstraps to enforce its code. For the Splat Pack, originally consisting of Rob Zombie, Eli Roth (the Frank Sinatra of the Pack according to Quentin Tarantino), James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Robert Rodriquez (added later by association), Greg McLean, Neil Marshall, Alexadre Aja and Darren Lynn Bousman, filmmaking has gone as usual, and each has made a substantial contribution to the horror genre in a positive way, testing the limits of our stomach...
