“I hadn’t played in the sandpit of science fiction before,” exclaims John Crowley about directing “Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea.” In our recent webchat he adds, “I was delirious with joy doing it. The playfulness of realizing it visually was extraordinary.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Peter Weir, the legendary Australian director of “Picnic at Hanging Rock,” “The Year of Living Dangerously,” “Gallipoli,” “Witness,” “Dead Poets Society,” “The Truman Show,” and “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World,” is getting some richly deserved recognition. Following his honorary Oscar in advance of the 2023 Academy Awards, he will now receiving the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement from the Venice Film Festival this fall.
“With a total of only 13 movies directed over the course of 40 years, Peter Weir has secured a place in the firmament of the great directors of modern cinema,” said Alberto Barbera, the artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, in an official statement.
Weir has been nominated for six Academy Awards throughout his career — three times for Best Director, for “Witness,” “The Truman Show,” and “Master and Commander,” for which he also received a Best Picture nod, and once for Best Original Screenplay for “Green Card.

Katy Perry’s Mom was reportedly hoodwinked by an AI Image of her daughter attending the Met Gala, prompting a hilarious text exchange between them. On Monday, May 6, The California Gurls singer, who skipped the Met Gala, appeared to share a text message in which her Mother was fooled by a fabricated image of her attending the coveted fashion event of the year in New York.
In the text, her Mom, seemingly impressed by her ensemble, wrote, “Ha Feather! I didn’t know you went to the Met. What a gorgeous gown. You look like the Rose Parade; you are your own float.” An amused Katy Perry, who was not at the event, replied: “lol mom, the AI got you too, Beware!”

The studio once known as 20th Century Fox is a younger entity than the other major Hollywood Studios. It was founded in 1935 out of the ashes of Fox Film, compared to Warner Bros (1923), Universal Pictures (1912), Paramount Pictures (1912), Columbia Pictures (1923), and Disney (1923) — the latter being the new parent company of 20th Century Studios.
Still, Fox waited only seven years to take home the top prize at the Oscars. At the 14th Academy Awards, held in 1942, Fox's film "How Green Was My Valley" won Best Picture, presented to Fox studio chief Darryl F. Zanuck. That wasn't the only prize "Valley" won that night: it also got Best Director (John Ford), Best Supporting Actor (Donald Crisp), Best Cinematography, Black-and-White (Arthur Miller), and finally Best Art Direction -- Interior Decoration, Black-and-White.
One of the films that "Valley" beat that night was "Citizen Kane" (which got only Best Original Screenplay for director Orson Welles and his co-writer Herman J.

For the last 10 years, A24 has been home to movies that wouldn’t have been made anywhere else, as low and mid-budget films are almost obsolete in the mainstream Hollywood landscape. But following their commitment to funding risky visions of outsider filmmakers, the Indie outfit has built a pretty strong brand identity and is now set to join forces with one of the best in the game.
Steven Spielberg, who previously spoke highly of A24’s Oscar-nominated The Zone of Interest, is now teaming up with the indie distributor for an adaptation of The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

Director Nao Hing and Hong Kong mega-star Andy Lau Tak-wah reunite after 18 years (when Lau produced Hing's “Crazy Stone”) to bring to life a rather funny Hong Kong (and not only) film industry satire, with “The Movie Emperor”. Inappropriately labelled as a Chinese New Year movie and following its triumphant premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in September and the Pingyao International Film Festival in October 2023, the film's theatrical release during Chinese New Year 2024 proved unexpectedly disappointing, grossing just 83 million yuan, probably obscured by more classical and joke-filled comedies, as expected in those festivities.

Gary Cooper was a two-time Oscar winner who starred in dozens of movies before his death in 1961, but how many of those titles remain classics? Let’s take a look back at 15 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Born in 1901, Cooper got his start in silent movies, most notably the aerial drama “Wings” (1927), which won the very first Academy Award as Best Picture. He would collect his own statuette as Best Actor for another WWI film: the biographical drama “Sergeant York” (1941). Directed by Howard Hawks, it helped create Cooper’s screen persona of an ordinary man capable of extraordinary courage in the face of adversity.
He won a second Best Actor trophy for playing a similar character in Fred Zinnemann‘s western “High Noon” (1952), which cast him as a retired marshal who must stand up to a gang of killers arriving on the noon train. Cooper earned additional nominations for similarly idealistic,...

King Kong ain’t got nothin’ on Denzel Washington but he did have something on Ethan Hawke on Oscar night 2002, when Hawke lost Best Supporting Actor for his remarkable performance in Training Day. But without his co-star, Hawke might have been plenty more devastated than he was allowed to be.
Appearing on Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? (via Variety), Ethan Hawke remembered that Denzel Washington had some sage wisdom after he lost to Iris’ Jim Broadbent. According to Hawke, Washington told him, “‘It’s better that you didn’t win. Losing was better…You don’t want an award to improve your status. You want to improve the award’s status.’ That’s the way he thinks…The Academy Award has more power, because Denzel has a couple. At the beginning of Act Two of “Merrily We Roll Along,” Jonathan Groff, Daniel Radcliffe, Lindsay Mendez and other ensemble members sing “It’s A Hit!,” celebrating the successful opening of characters Charlie and Frank’s first Broadway musical. Indeed, one could say the same about this revival of “Merrily,” not just because of its smash box office receipts, but also because of the seven Tony Awards nominations that it received on April 30. This recognition from New York theatre’s highest honor is a true redemption for the show, whose original production was a notorious flop for composer Stephen Sondheim and director Hal Prince that ran only 16 regular performances and earned only a single bid for Sondheim’s original score. But how does this production’s Tony success compare to other recent revivals of the late composer’s works?

Mads Mikkelsen’s name is synonymous to the greatest movie villains of all time. The Danish actor is notorious for his captivating and terrifying portrayals of unhinged yet sophisticated characters that stop at nothing to achieve their goals. Mikkelsen indulges in heavy topics and hard-to-watch films, but sometimes, a picture can be too much even for him — that’s how he knows it’s brilliant.

The Lion King has been a classic in Disney’s record. It was a spectacle for audiences, following the story of the nobility of the animal kingdom. Fans have a very emotional connection with the movie, and it has also become an important part of the entertainment company’s history. When a piece of art becomes timeless and iconic, it is only inevitable that there will be remakes.

After years of making films in his native Japan, writer-director Ryusuke Hamaguchi found unexpected global success in 2021 with “Drive My Car.”
Adapted and expanded from short stories by Haruki Murakami, it’s an exquisite drama about a grieving theater director staging a multilingual “Uncle Vanya,” and his relationship with the pensive young woman employed to drive his cherry-red Saab.
Premiering at the Cannes Film Festival, where Hamaguchi and co-writer Takamasa Oe won the Best Screenplay prize, “Drive My Car” went on to dominate the fall festival circuit. The film clocked up an astonishing four nominations at the 2022 Oscars, including Best Picture and a Best Director nod for Hamaguchi, and went on to win Japan’s first Oscar for Best International Film.

With hindsight being 20/20 and all, it may be a shock to learn that when Jane Fonda and producing partner Bruce Gilbert wanted to make a workplace comedy about three secretaries who decide to enact revenge on their tyrannical, chauvinist boss called "9 to 5," few people (see: men) in positions of power thought the film would be a success. And yet, the film -- which got its name after a grassroots organization of women fighting for workplace equality and fair pay (that is still around today) -- was a box-office smash, launched the mainstream career of Dolly Parton outside of music, and inspired both a TV adaptation and a Broadway musical.
Featuring interviews with Parton, Fonda, Lily Tomlin, countless others who worked on the film, the TV adaptation (Rita Moreno!), the Broadway musical (Allison Janney!), and activists from then and now, the documentary "Still Working 9 to 5" currently boasts a 93% critical score.

The Best Drama Writer category at Sunday’s 2024 BAFTA TV Crafts Awards was a pretty stacked one. “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker was nominated with “Ms. Marvel” creator Bisha K. Sarah Phelps was also nominated for “The Sixth Commandment” while Emmy-winner Jesse Armstrong was recognized for his work on awards-juggernaut “Succession.”

It's a drizzly Thursday afternoon in New York City, and Nicki Nicole has spent most of her day answering back-to-back interview questions from journalists. For someone who just concluded a tour between Latin America and Europe, not to mention nine sold-out shows at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, where more than 100,000 fans were in attendance, you'd think she was ready to slow down. But hours before our conversation, she announced that her first US headlining tour would kick off next month in Mexico City. You can see the tunnel vision in her green eyes. Her fans, who have been by her side since day one, are what motivate her to keep going.

10 Iconic Dance Numbers in the Millennium ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Hindi Film Music has witnessed paradigm changes in the Millennium. Songs are now promo tools and barely situational, and lip-sync numbers predominantly dance songs. On International Dance Day (April 29), I choose the 10 truly magnificent dance numbers that will always live on. And yes, I have not included Naacho Naacho from Rrr as it was technically not a Hindi movie!
Budtameez Dil / Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
Ranbir Kapoor outdid himself in this song, reviving memories of his father, Rishi Kapoor’s mastery of dance! The musical was enriched immeasurably by this by Benny Dayal-Shefali Alvares song, composed by Pritam with delightfully crazy lyrics (Paan mein pudina dekha) by Amitabh Bhattacharya. And if you thought the dance had a hint of Michael Jackson, please remember that legend was its choreographer Remo D’Souza’s idol.

Savannah accused Lindsie Chrisley of assisting the government in her parents’ conviction and now, Chrisley Knows Best fans wonder about a letter to the FBI allegedly used in Julie and Todd Chrisley’s trial. There’s a bitter fight between the two women. It started after Savannah told Lindsie not to attend her parents’ oral arguments appeal.
Lindsie Chrisley Accused By Savannah Of Working With The Government
In February, Savannah Chrisley said on a podcast with Jason Tartick, “I find it funny because [Lindsie’s] so-called lawyer wants to say that I’m using her as a ‘punching bag’ for my emotions, which is not true at all because I go off of facts.” She added, “I go off of you have interviews that she did with the FBI for two years…I wholeheartedly believe she was a huge player in this whole fiasco. And it just is what it is…Blood...

Chrisley Knows Best fans know that Savannah Chrisley and her half-sister, Lindsie don’t get along, and now threats arrive to release Lindsie’s “vile” texts to the public. It comes after Savannah said that Lindsie accused her of something on her podcast. So, she revealed that her dad didn’t want Lindsie at the oral appeal hearing in Atlanta.
Savannah Chrisley & Lindsie Have A Lot of Differences
With Todd Chrisley’s daughters, there are a lot of differences. For example, Lindsie grew up in a broken home. Meanwhile, it seems as if Todd favored Savannah over his first daughter. However, one thing they have in common, is that both of them seem to like taking their problems to social media. Actually, they probably learned that from their father, who is out of pocket by $755,000 in settlements. He complained about an IRS employee on Chrisley Confessions, and he lost her lawsuit.

Even amidst the glitz and glamour of the silver screen, the names people have come to adore aren’t always as genuine as they seem. For actors like Emma Stone and Michael Keaton, adopting stage names was a strategic move, whether to avoid confusion or create a memorable persona. However, Emma Stone recently revealed a surprising truth. Despite the fame attached to her moniker, she’s grown tired of being referred to as “Emma.”
Emma Stone in Poor Things.
Emma Stone Is No Longer Fond of Her Stage Name!
Before Emma Stone dazzled audiences on the big screen, she faced the challenge of sharing a name with another star in the entertainment industry called Emily. Thus, she opted for a stage name to stand out. Initially, Stone embraced her new identity with enthusiasm, rather eager to get rid of her original name.

Actor Mark Ruffalo is known for his humanitarian works, and is also one of the celebrities asking for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Gaza conflict. In the initial days, few Hollywood celebrities signed a petition asking to end the war that was taking place in Palestine, and Ruffalo was one of them. The Artists4Ceasefire group, as they called themselves, asked in an open letter for the conflict to end, and for women and children to live in peace.

In Challengers, everyone is obsessed with Zendaya. Or, at least, her character Tashi Duncan. “She’s gonna turn her whole family into millionaires,” says Josh O’Connor’s young tennis champ Patrick Zweig, to old friend and doubles partner Art Donaldson (Mike Faist). “She’ll have a fashion line, a foundation.” It’s easy to see why they’re in awe. Duncan is a world-class player, brand ambassador, and the object of both their affections. And with regards to ambition, ability, and enormous success at a young age, they could just as easily be talking about Zendaya herself – a star who, over the past few years, has been executing her own Tashi-esque world domination. So far, she’s moved from kids’ TV star to being a part of some of the biggest movies on the planet. With Challengers, though, she’s taking things to a whole other level.

Apple TV+ is sure to perform well at this year’s Emmys with a number of shows strongly positioned including “Lessons in Chemistry,” “Sugar,” “Manhunt,” “The New Look,” and “Masters of the Air.” Well, add in another limited series to that mix — the historical drama “Franklin,” starring Oscar-winner Michael Douglas as the titular Benjamin Franklin.
The show chronicles Franklin’s eight years in France, wherein he attempted to convince King Louis XVI (Tom Pezier) to support the colonies in the American Revolutionary War. The series, as you’d expect, features fabulous costumes, sets, and hair and makeup. It is anchored by a powerhouse performance from Douglas, whose take on Franklin is a more modern one. The show is all the more entertaining for it, as noted by critics.

Life’s not all a cabaret for film actors making their way to Broadway.
In the case of Eddie Redmayne, who now stars as the ghoul-like and flamboyant Emcee in director Rebecca Frecknall’s “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” at New York’s August Wilson Theatre, life behind the scenes is more “monastic,” as he told IndieWire, than song-and-dance bacchanalia.
“When you’re doing a musical like this, it’s quite monastic living, and it’s almost more like being an athlete than an actor sometimes because when you’re doing eight shows a week, you’re keeping your voice in decent nick,” said Redmayne, Zooming from the backseat of a car between appointments, which just included lunch with Joel Grey, who famously starred as the Master of Ceremonies in Bob Fosse‘s Oscar-winning 1972 film.

At the start of the current Emmys season, our in-house editors and cadre of awards experts generally agreed that the next Best Drama Actress winner would be Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”). That wasn’t the case for long, however, as the expert odds have now consistently favored Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”) for over two months. Although the editors’ opinion is shared by a majority of our 2,000+ Emmy predictors, the experts could be onto something given the wide open nature of this and many more 2024 Emmy races.
Staunton’s claim to victory is strengthened by the fact that her show is the only past Best Drama Series nominee currently vying for that prize (which it won three years ago). It also helps that her supporting cast mate, Elizabeth Debicki, is her category’s obvious frontrunner due to her status as the sole 2023 drama acting contender eligible for an immediate return.

Ron Howard's 1995 film "Apollo 13" is an effective thriller even when forearmed with the knowledge that the three astronauts depicted returned to Earth okay. For those unfamiliar with the Apollo 13 mission, in April of 1970, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise took a shuttle into space, hoping to land on the moon. An electrical problem, however, caused an explosion on the craft, and the astronauts lost a great deal of their oxygen supply. With resources nil and communication limited, the astronauts had to find a way to survive in space and return to Earth alive. Sadly, they didn't get to walk on the moon.
In Howard's film, the astronauts were played by Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton, while Ed Harris played their contact back at NASA. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won two for Best Sound and Best Editing. It...

Imagine your past dark moments in life being used as a joke in front of thousands of people while you sit in the audience unable to do anything.
That’s exactly what happened last month March 10 at the 2024 Oscars which took place at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
At the 96th Academy Awards, the host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Jimmy Kimmel had the honor to host the event but during his opening monologue, Jimmy dropped some very uncomfortable comments about the “Iron Man” Robert Downey Junior’s well-known substance abuse past.
While the actor who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding performance as Lewis Strauss in “Oppenheimer” didn’t say anything concerning Jimmy’s jokes, he finally broke his silence in a recent interview with “Esquire” published April 8.
It turns out that although Robert looked uncomfortable at the Oscars during Jimmy’s jokes, he didn’t take it to heart.

David Anspaugh's 1986 sports drama "Hoosiers" has gone down in history as one of the most influential sports dramas ever made. Partly inspired by the real-life story of the 1954 Indiana state champions Milan High School, "Hoosiers" focuses on formerly-disgraced basketball coach Norman Dale (Gene Hackman), who gets a rare second chance to prove his mettle at Indiana's Hickory High School. The rather tight-knit town of Hickory seems a little too unforgiving towards Norman due to his sketchy past, but redemption finds its way to him via a David vs. Goliath situation that soon transforms into a classic underdog tale about dreaming big and achieving the impossible.
Some of the more saccharine themes in "Hoosiers" might feel a tad corny at times, but it is a film that brandishes sincere authenticity when it comes to the magic of unexpected second chances and the highs and lows of small-town sports. Moreover, a...

Recently, Takashi Yamazaki's "Godzilla Minus One" made Academy Award history by winning the Best Visual Effects category, becoming the first film in the decade-spanning franchise to win an Oscar. An absolutely deserved win aside, it is one that feels both unexpected and a long time coming, with the future of the kaiju looking brighter than ever. One of the reasons why "Godzilla Minus One" is such an impactful entry can be chalked up to how humanity bands together to defeat a mammoth, indestructible force while also dealing with a socio-political situation that mirrors some of the bleakest moments in Japanese history. It is a film that ventures way beyond the spectacle of an incomprehensible beast stomping around without any regard for human lives, with the focus often shifting to the intricate inner lives of everyday citizens working together to achieve the impossible.

Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi epic Interstellar is receiving an IMAX re-release for its 10th anniversary this fall, Paramount Pictures announced at CinemaCon on Thursday.
Interstellar will be shown in Nolan’s preferred IMAX 70mm format and digital screens. Paramount will work with Warner Bros. to bring the movie back to theaters.
Last summer, Nolan explained the advantages of IMAX 70mm in an interview with The Associated Press, saying the format was the “best possible experience” to take in future Best Picture winner Oppenheimer due to its “unparalleled” sharpness, clarity, and depth of image.
Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, and Jessica Chastain, Interstellar was directed by Nolan, who penned the film with his brother, Jonathan Nolan. Recently, the former patriarch of Chrisley Knows Best, Todd Chrisley lost a lawsuit and now he’s appealing the hefty settlement. His lawyer seems confident that they have the grounds for it. The financial setback came just three months after he won a lawsuit against the state of Georgia.
Todd Chrisley Won But Then Lost
In January, a settlement of $1 million was ordered after their case against Joshua Waites. He’s the former Director of Special Investigations of Georgia’s Department of Revenue, (Gdor.) While it was a big win for the dad of Savannah Chrisley, the new lawsuit finding means that he won’t have much of that money left over.

Although Todd Chrisley won the Joshua Waites case, another employee who works in the investigations department successfully sued him. In 2021, Amy Doherty-Heinze filed for defamation after Todd ranted on social media about her and others.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan recalled playing a mayor in Russian playwright Nikolai Gogol’s ‘The Government Inspector’ in 1957, when he was studying in Sherwood College in Nainital.
The actor took to his blog and wrote: “How time has kept us all in tune and line… 1957 Sherwood, Nainital, School Play, Nikolai Gogol’s ‘The Government Inspector’, Danny Kaye the phenomenal talent, playing the Inspector… and I use it on stage in Milman Hall for the Annual Concert, where I play the Mayor.”
Big B shared an anecdote from the rehearsals of the play and mentioned that he had taken home the Best Actor’s trophy at that time.
“And during a rehearsal, classmate Chris Borthwick, who plays the Inspector, suggests the famous line to be spoken at a particular scene – impromptu… and the entire Hall comes down… It was the most popular song of the World… and gives me my best actor Cup – the Kendall Cup.

Lee Chang-dong set Cannes ablaze in 2018 with the uneasily beautiful “Burning,” a loose Haruki Murakami adaptation about the folie à troix between an alienated delivery man (Ah-in Yoo), the wily young woman (Jong-seo Jun) he covets, and the handsome charisma machine who blows them apart. The South Korean director’s sixth film made history as Korea’s first to make the International Feature Oscar shortlist (it wasn’t nominated) but is perhaps best remembered for two scenes: the woman, Haemi (Jun), dancing topless for them to the tune of Miles Davis’ “Elevator to the Gallows” soundtrack, and for its abruptly violent ending involving murder and arson in the nude. Then, there’s a missing cat that may have never existed — pure Murakami.
“Burning” remains a new classic of the 2010s, an elusive portrait of loneliness and desire that never spills on its narrative secrets. It grossed an impressive $718,000 at the U.
