[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Avengers: Infinity War.”]
Just when you thought the ending of “Avengers: Infinity War” couldn’t be more depressing, here comes Kevin Feige to shatter your happiness all over again. The Marvel Studios president confirmed to Birth.Movies.Death (via Comic Book Resources) that Thanos not only killed off humans when he snapped his fingers at the end of “Infinity War,” but he also murdered animals.
“Are half the animals dead? Are half of the horses gone? Half of the ants?” Birth.Movies.Death reporter Russ Fischer asked. Feige responded with a simple and crushing, “Yes! Yes. All life.”
Feige’s confirmation means such animals as Howard The Duck (seen in “Guardians of the Galaxy”) could be dead along with human superheroes Spider-Man, Doctor Stranger, Star Lord, and more. Rocket Raccoon survived Thanos’ universe-altering snap, so it was unclear whether or not animals were affected by the population wipeout.

Luca Guadagnino charmed audiences with “Call Me By Your Name” last winter. Now he wants to horrify them with his reboot of Dario Argento’s classic horror film “Suspiria.” And judging by the reaction a sneak peek of his film got at CinemaCon, he’ll fulfill that goal.
The film stars Dakota Johnson as Susie Bannion, an American dancer who joins an academy run by the austere Madame Blanc (Tilda Swinton). But when she arrives, she soon uncovers some very dark secrets.
One of those dark secrets was shown to a full crowd in Las Vegas, as Madame Blanc guides Susie through a dance, telling her to stop if she feels ill. But possibly unbeknownst to Susie, there’s a girl in a doorless room surrounding by mirrors, getting thrown around and slammed into walls in time with her dancing.
With a jump by Susie, the girl is thrown end over end. With a swing of Susie’s arm, the girl’s arm is ripped out of its socket. Guadagnino’s camera zooms in on the bruises that give away the girl’s shattered ribs, the sound design amplifying every thump and breaking bone. By the end, the girl is left in a contorted heap, lying in her own saliva and urine.
“Dancing is dangerous,” quipped Amazon Studios distribution head Bob Berney to the disturbed gathering.
TheWrap’s Matt Donnelly described the film as “Black Swan meets The Exorcist in a 70s Berlin Marc Jacobs ad.” Other attendees of the presentation also reacted… strongly to the footage.
Ummm I am traumatized after seeing a scene from "Suspiria" in which Dakota Johnson controls the body of another woman as she dances. The woman's body literally cracks in half. She is like, torn apart. Spitting, urinating, bleeding. It's… A lot. #CinemaCon

First clip from Suspiria invokes a dancer being thrown around like a rag doll telekinetically in a mirrored rehearsal space, bones breaking, becoming a contorted mess. Very gruesome and hard to watch. This film will make most people feel uneasy. #CinemaCon

Footage from Guadagnino's Suspiria at Amazon's #CinemaCon lunch: Dance and witchcraft deeply linked. Relentless, Gnarly.

The “Suspiria” reboot also stars Chloe Grace Moretz and Mia Goth. Jessica Harper, who played Susie in the original “Suspiria,” will return in a different role. An official release date has not yet been set, though Amazon Studios plans to release the film this fall.

TheWrap critic Russ Fischer ranks “Star Trek Beyond” among all of the Enterprise crew’s big-screen adventures Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) “Star Trek” borrowing from itself is fine (see a good use of ideas from “The Voyage Home” in “Beyond”), but the second J.J. “Cloverfield” fans were given a nice surprise on Super Bowl Sunday when Netflix released “The Cloverfield Paradox” on its streaming service just hours after the first trailer debuted. Directed by Julius Onah, this is the third film in the popular sci-fi franchise following 2008’s “Cloverfield” and 2016’s “10 Cloverfield Lane.” Of note, “Paradox” was not originally conceived as a “Cloverfield” sequel but was rewritten later to fit into this universe.
Gugu Mbatha-Raw, star of Netflix’s Emmy-winning “Black Mirror” episode “San Junipero,” takes on the lead role of astronaut Ava Hamilton in “The Cloverfield Paradox.” After a power surge aboard the spaceship, Earth disappears from view and strange things begin happening to Ava and her fellow astronauts, played by David Oyelowo, Daniel Bruhl, John Ortiz, Chris O’Dowd, Aksel Hennie, Zhang Ziyi and Elizabeth Debicki.
Now that film critics have seen “The Cloverfield Paradox,” what are they saying about the surprise sequel?...

“Pete’s Dragon” is a cherished Disney story that follows the adventures of an orphaned boy (Oakes Fegley) and his best friend Elliott, who happens to be a dragon. Also starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Wes Bentley, Karl Urban and Robert Redford, the fantasy film is directed by David Lowery and promises to take the whole family on an epic adventure. Here’s what the critics are saying about the film so far.
IndieWire’s David Ehrlich gave the film a B+, calling it “an old Disney musical [that] becomes a new Disney classic.” He praises Lowery’s indie spirit by writing that it’s the summer’s best remake. “There may be individual shots in this movie that cost more than the director’s entire pre-existing output, but make no mistake: This is a David Lowery movie,” he writes. “A movie imbued with the same tactile nature and uniquely American flair...

“Star Trek Beyond,” the third installment of the J.J. Abrams-produced franchise, is directed by Justin Lin and promises to be jammed packed with adventure. This time around, the Enterprise crew is attacked by powerful unknown aliens, leaving them stranded on a new planet. The first reviews of the action flick have been released and overall seem to be earning generally positive reactions. Here is what the critics had to say.
IndieWire’s Eric Kohn gave the film a B-, calling it “a spectacular movie about nothing.” He appreciates Lin’s work, but overall felt like the script lacked excitement in the plot. “There’s an odd disconnect between the movie’s undercooked conflict and its epic scale, to the point where it barely exists as more than a series of flashy moments. But its trivial qualities come as something of a relief — this is a movie engineered to avoid overextending its allure,...

The Conjuring 2 may not hit theaters until next Friday, but reviews are already trickling in for James Wan's supernatural horror sequel -- and so far, it's sounding like a mostly-worthy followup to its 2013 predecessor. The only relatively consistent complaint, even among those who liked the film? At 134 minutes, it could have done with some trimming. Here's a sampling of the critical notices so far, from most to least positive: "This sequel might lack the delightful jolts of its predecessor, but it nonetheless maintains a slow boil of terror that’s consistently unnerving." - Alonso Duralde, The Wrap "James Wan, the director of “Saw” and “Insidious,” is a horror filmmaker of such screw-tightening skill that even when he makes a good old rattletrap haunted-house potboiler, it’s easy to feel a glimmer of admiration for his talent just beneath your tingling spine. (It’s his talent that makes the creaky conventions scary.

With the 'Global Fan Screening' for Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" having taken place today, the first reviews have started coming out and the reaction is surprisingly very divided.
Various trades and papers have published their reviews which have been underwhelming, citing complaints of the film being overstuffed and monotonous with only a few highlights including the Quicksilver sequence once again. Here's just a sampling of tweet reactions from various film writers of note along with some trade review quotes.
Full Reviews
"Both Captain America: Civil War and X-Men: Apocalypse are superhero extravaganzas with severe traffic control problems, but while the former keeps things flowing reasonably smoothly, the new film, set to arrive in theaters just weeks later, resembles a bumper-car nightmare..." - Todd McCarthy, THR

Even if the positive reviews (our Russ Fischer was less enraptured than many, but still impressed) can't convince you that the prospect of Jon Favreau remaking "The Jungle Book" as a live-action extravaganza was a good idea, it's a phenomenon we're all going to to have to get used to. The classic Disneyverse is about to get a whole lot more photo-real, with live action remakes/prequels/versions of "Beauty and the Beast" (starring Emma Watson), "Mulan," "Aladdin," "Tinkerbell," "Winnie the Pooh" (focusing on Christopher Robin and to be penned by Alex Ross Perry), "Dumbo" and "Prince Charming" all in various stages of development right now. And this on the glass-slippered foot of Kenneth Branagh's triumphantly traditionalist 2015 take on "Cinderella" which made $542m worldwide, along with Angelina Jolie's $758 million worldwide earning "Maleficent." Spider-Man. Black Panther. The Airport scene. Prepare to be talking about them after you see "Captain America: Civil War."
Cap's third solo (sort of) movie isn't arriving in theaters until May 6, so it's a wee bit too early to be checking Rotten Tomatoes for official reviews. However, some critics got to see the movie almost a month early, and shared brief reactions on Twitter. Long story short: They loved it. Granted, screening audiences tend to be overly enthusiastic, but they got pretty specific (and consistent) about what they loved, while avoiding any spoilers:
#CaptainAmericaCivilWar delivers the goods. Endless Avenger v Avenger action. Tense and still funny. Boseman kills it as Black Panther.

Well, the word is out on “Captain America: Civil War.” No, reviews aren’t out, they're embargoed until next week, but tweets weren’t off the table and our own Russ Fischer has given one major ringing endorsement to the film so far. Civil War: This Spider-Man is Spectacular. pic.twitter.com/AUex8LkE9c — Russ Fischer (@russfischer) April 9, 2016 Of course in ‘Civil War,’ directed by Joe and Anthony Russo — the defacto new Joss Whedon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it seems — it’s #TeamCap vs. #TeamIronMan, but we’re hoping that battle isn’t as lame and incoherent as a certain recent superhero face-off movie which we won’t mention by name, even if it was beat by a Melissa McCarthy comedy in its third week at the box-office (this is not a sponsored Marvel post, btw; we wish). So in Marvel’s latest episode, Captain America and his team — which includes Ant-Man,...

Critics haven't been kind to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the superhero event film currently standing at a rancid 30% average on Rotten Tomatoes. Many of these reviewers have specifically taken aim at director Zack Snyder's alleged mishandling of the material, with Consequence of Sound reviewer Michael Roffman perhaps summing it up most succinctly: "Somebody stop Zack Snyder. Somebody save the world." Joe Gross over at the Austin American-Statesman, meanwhile, voiced his displeasure this way: "I'm not sure what Snyder has against these characters, why he is so determined to make them as distasteful as possible." Guillermo Del Toro’s Crimson Peak premiered at Austin’s Fantastic Fest this past weekend, and while full reviews are embargoed until mid-October, the first reactions to the highly anticipated Gothic horror movie have surfaced on Twitter.
Pacific Rim was a movie which divided critics and even the most loyal of the filmmaker’s devoted fanbase, but it thankfully sounds like Crimson Peak is something of a return to form for Del Toro as he goes back to his roots. It’s odd then that Universal has decided to hold back reviews until so close to the movie’s release, but there have been reports of some behind the scenes issues (they refused to co-finance Crimson Peak with Legendary Pictures upon learning that it was going to be R-Rated), so that could explain why they’re not overly interested in giving it a huge push.

A corrupt small-town sheriff is on the hunt for two runaway kids who took his car on a joy ride in Cop Car, an unnervingly funny thriller now available on Digital HD and On Demand, and debuting on Blu-ray and DVD on September 29, 2015, from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
Starring Golden Globe-winner Kevin Bacon (Footloose, Mystic River) and directed by Jon Watts (the upcoming Untitled Spiderman Reboot), Cop Car is “A midnight movie blast!” according to Russ Fischer of Slashfilm.
When a pair of 10-year-olds find an abandoned cop car in a field and take it for a joyride, it seems like they could kill themselves at any moment. But things only get worse when the small-town sheriff goes looking for his missing car—and the illicit cargo he left in the trunk—and the kids find themselves at the center of a deadly game of cat and mouse they don’t understand.

The Overnight Red-Band Trailer. Produced by the Duplass brothers, Patrick Brice‘s The Overnight (2015) red band movie trailer stars Adam Scott, Taylor Schilling, Judith Godrèche and Jason Schwartzman. The Overnight‘s plot synopsis: “Alex, Emily, and their son, Rj, have recently moved to Los Angeles’ Eastside from Seattle. Feeling lost in a new city, they are desperate to find their first new friends. After a chance meeting with Kurt at the neighborhood park, they gladly agree to join family pizza night at the home. But as it gets later and the kids go to bed, the family “playdate” becomes increasingly more revealing and bizarre as the couples begin to open up.”
I’m sold. I like Adam Scott and Jason Schwartzman, and I want to find out more regarding the events of the night displayed in the trailer. What else does the couple do? How to they deal with it?...

My first trip to Pixar’s Emeryville campus was 13 years ago. That alone was enough to give me pause when I was invited to the “Inside Out” press day. I’ve done it. I’ve taken the tour. I’ve seen the campus. I’ve met the artists and I’ve seen their amazing work spaces and I’ve had a chance to walk through pretty much every department. I remember standing outside the server room my first time up, looking in at the brain of this remarkable company, amazed at how those racks of black technology represented this collision of all this amazing human artistry. My other hesitation, honestly, was because we were told that we’d be seeing “part” of the movie. I’ve grown wary over the years of seeing movies in chunks because you can’t really react in any meaningful way since you’re not seeing something that’s complete.

The trailers for "Edge of Tomorrow" look cool as heck, but let's just admit it: We're all a little bit skeptical about a new Tom Cruise action movie, especially one that's been bouncing around since 2010 or so.
But not so fast! The embargo has been lifted on "Edge of Tomorrow," and so far the reviews have been really positive. It was a smart move on the studio's part to let journalists start sharing their opinions with readers well in advance of the movie's June 6th premiere. That's the same weekend that "22 Jump Street" comes out, and it looks like "X-Men: Days of Future Past" and "Godzilla" will still be strong competitors at the box office. If the Internet could have damaged Cruise's career, maybe it can bring him back, right?
Here are just a few tidbits from tried and true sources.
Meredith Woerner at io9 enthused, "See This Movie. Go And See This Movie Immediately.

Sony Pictures Classics has released the new trailer for the upcoming film The Raid 2. The sequel had it’s world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
This is what those in attendance at the screening had to say:
Devin Faraci (Badassdigest) tweeted: “Gareth Evans is the greatest living action director. The Raid 2 is spectacular. #sundance14″ and “Can’t even imagine the money every studio will be throwing at Gareth Evans now. This movie is just so much bigger and better than The Raid.” Read his review Here.
Russ Fischer (Slashfilm) tweeted: “The Raid 2 sets a spectacular new benchmark for vehicular action. The Fast and the What, again?” and “The Raid 2 has some incredible action and a “more is more” mindset. Drama aspires to The Godfather, achieves only a pale homage.”

As the afternoon rolls on in San Diego, the Warner Bros. presentation has been the marquee event for the 120,000+ attendees of Comic-Con. With a great deal of announcements expected — some coming a bit early — about the future of DC Comics adaptations, WB has also been showing off movies that are not only announced, but will actually screen for audiences before the end of the calendar year. One such tale is Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, which hits theaters October 4. The Children of Men director took the stage in Hall H to provide attendees a first look at what it’s like to experience his 3D space thriller, explaining that he wants people to feel what it’s like to float in space. According to reports from the ground in San Diego, they are not only feeling the floating sensation, their nerves are being tested. We’ve culled together a group of some of the initial reactions to the...

The World of Warcraft movie, which was unofficially confirmed back in January, has now totally, officially been announced. At today's Comic-Con panel Warner Bros. screened test footage from the film, which will be directed by Moon and Source Code's Duncan Jones. Described by those in the room as a faithful adaptation of the video game world, the movie-- called Warcraft in the teaser-- is set to start production early next year. The footage showed off footage of a warrior wielding a sword and shield who faces down an orc. "Like if someone thought, 'What if Leone made a sword and sorcery movie on a blasted alien planet?" tweeted Russ Fischer. Here's how Eric describes what he saw from inside Hall H: Warrior roaming an empty desert with a shield on his back. Greenish sky is covered by dark clouds and lightning. He sees a pile of armor on the...

In an interview with Total Film, Terrence Howard talked about why he was replaced by Don Cheadle in the Iron Man films.
In the 2008 film Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr., Howard played the role of Rhodey, Iron Man’s high-ranking friend. Many liked Howard in the role. He appeared to have good chemistry with Downey Jr., so it was a surprise when Howard did not return for the sequel. All that I remember reading from the media was that Howard wanted more money. With Iron Man 3 set to be released this year, Howard opened up about the experience, in his own words.
According to Howard, the studio always wanted Cheadle for the role. Howard said:
“Don [Cheadle] and Robert [Downey Jr.] get along well. Initially, they wanted Don for that role, but my agent pushed me in. So I never had any beef with Don about it.”

Evil Dead saw its world premiere at SXSW this evening. When the remake was first announced, fans were understandably skeptical, but the gory red band trailer won many over. Did the movie live up to the hype? We have impressions from a number of people who attended the event, and word that a sequel is already in development.
The majority of audience reactions from the screening have been positive, and it looks like Sony will have a big hit with Evil Dead when it is released in April. As long as horror fans turn out to support the movie, a sequel seems like a given. During the Q&A that took place after the screening, director Fede Alvarez announced that he has already started writing the sequel. We’ll have more details on this after post-screening interviews start coming in early next week.

Another day, another short film has landed its director a Hollywood payday. I’m telling you – if you want to break into the biz, make a short sci-fi movie. Hollywood can’t get enough of them. Stephan Zlotescu is the latest guy to see his indie sci-fi short catch the attention of a major studio. Zlotescu made his name doing FX for a bunch of music videos for acts like Lady Gaga and Kanye West, but in his spare time he shot an indie quickie entitled True Skin. The short, as /Film’s Russ Fischer points out, looks a lot like Blade Runner crossed with video game Deus Ex (particularly last year’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution). It’s about a dystopian future where body augmentations are all the rage – and have led to a treacherous black market for...

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly column about things that you’ll probably enjoy. It likes to think that it knows you well enough to pick only the best ingredients. We begin this evening with a look at Dreamworks’ Turbo, which may not be entirely new but it’s new to me so deal with it. The story follows a Ryan Reynolds voiced snail who dreams of being a racer. The folks over at /Film have a few new looks at advertising art for this, as well as Blue Sky Animation’s Epic, which is about people who ride birds or something. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Showtime is ending Weeds after season eight. It will be sad to see Nancy Botwin and her brood (along with her various instances of nude expressionism) go by the wayside, but few viewers will argue. On one hand, eight seasons is a good run for a...

You know James Badge Dale, you just might not know that you know him. The actor has popped up in key supporting roles in films like The Departed, The Conspirator, and Shame, while also appearing in shows like 24, Rescue Me, Rubicon, and The Pacific mini-series, but it looks like Dale is about to rocket into the superhero stratosphere. Deadline Malibu reports that Dale is in talks to play a villain named Savin in Shane Black‘s upcoming Iron Man 3. While Ben Kingsley has been set as the film’s principle villain (though many are still arguing over whether or not he will be The Mandarin), it looks like the film needs another baddie to make Robert Downey Jr.‘s life harder. The outlet provides only the barest of details regarding the character, but over at /Film, Russ Fischer is guessing that he “is likely a version of Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Savin, an...

We've gathered a smattering of items about the next James Bond jaunt, Skyfall: It's British director Sam Mendes's first movie filmed in England; Bond is scruffy; the new Bond girls are predictably attractive; Javier Bardem's villain is blond (or is he?!); the film is said to have some of that "magical Goldfinger feel" and echo Bond's sixties era. Those assorted info-bursts aside, particulars on Skyfall have been relatively scant, until Slashfilm published a detailed set visit on Monday. About That TitleMuch of Slashfilm's set visit revolved around witnessing one big set piece, giving reporter Russ Fischer the vibe that the title is "close to literal in one sense. In the culmination of a chase scene through and beneath London, the villain Silva, played by Javier Bardem, causes an explosion in a catacomb chamber underneath a London tube station, and a train comes crashing down on Bond’s head.

In news with all sorts of global economic implications and perhaps the future of Hollywood, Disney and Marvel Studios have announced that Iron Man 3 will be co-produced with China. It’s probably a no brainer that arch nemesis Mandarin will be involved now (it’s said to have a Chinese storyline), and it’s clearly a brilliant business move. As Russ Fischer brightly mentioned, China controls what movies can be screened in their country, and access to their massive population will do untold things for the international box office receipts for the second sequel of the giant series, especially with the news that China will help make it.

Well, this marks the second big move in two days from Warner Bros., which seems to be deviating from the gameplan of safe plays and taking on riskier fare. Just yesterday, they came aboard the massive "The Dark Tower" franchise from Ron Howard and Brian Grazer that Universal dropped last year, and now they are continuing with bold maneuvers, taking on the vintage comic "Mandrake The Magician" and bringing it to the big screen.
As Russ Fischer of /Film perfectly tweeted: "Movie of classic pulp novel causes endless talk of bomb-like failure --> Warner Bros. announces development of More obscure pulp character." Indeed, you would think that in the shadow of "John Carter" failing to capture the imagination of audiences, any other properties from that era might not be the best idea right now. If you tour around the usual suspects of movie blogs, searching for news relating to the upcoming release of Walt Disney's John Carter you're likely to find more stories related to the size of its budget than its actual quality. The negativity surrounding the film began back in August 2011 when Disney was trying to figure out what to do about the massive budget for Gore Verbinski's The Lone Ranger, but it has really gained steam in the last two weeks when Deadline.com's Nikki Finke posted an article headlined "John Carter Tracking Shockingly Soft: 'Could Be Biggest Write-off Of All Time'". The quote in the headline is attributed to "a senior exec at a rival studio" discussing the film's tracking with Finke in an email saying, "It just came out. Women of all ages have flat out rejected the film. The tracking for John Carter is shocking for a film that cost over $250 million.

Russell Crowe has been at the front of some of today's most intriguing casting rumors. A chain reaction of reports set off by a Deadline post places Crowe on the shortlist for two high-profile projects.
Wednesday night (February 1), Deadline's Mike Fleming reported that he heard that Darren Aronofsky has his top choices picked for his biblical epic, "Noah." According to Fleming, Aronofsky wants Russell Crowe for the title role and Liam Neeson for a different character.
The "Black Swan" director's first choice, Christian Bale, had to drop out due to a busy scheduling conflicts, and Crowe's credentials certainly qualify him as a suitable replacement.
No deals have been signed for either actor, since the report only expressed Aronofsky's interest in the actors and not official moves to secure them.
In the wake of Deadline's report, Variety's Jeff Sneider revealed over Twitter that Crowe "Might" star in Jose Padilha's reboot of "RoboCop.

A paramount day in the world of breaking news from... a Pez dispenser.
The visage of Rhys Ifans' transformed Curt Connors aka The Lizard from "The Amazing Spider-Man" made its public debut on the famous candy dishing device. An image of two officially licensed Pez dispensers for the upcoming Sony reboot of the Spider-Man franchise showed up online early this morning with both Spider-Man and the film's main villain, The Lizard.
When director Marc Webb premiered footage from the movie this past summer at San Diego Comic-Con, the preview ended with a quick glimpse at The Lizard, who will appear in the film as mostly CGI in his transformed mode. What fans saw at Comic-Con matches the bust on the Pez dispenser to a point, but Russ Fischer over at /Film said he thought the actual Lizard from the movie was "a bit more overtly monstrous."

After months and months of thinking about it, I finally realized that the real question was “Why not Cookie Rocket?” Fox is thinking the same thing, because they’ve dropped a metric ton of Planet of the Apes news onto an unsuspecting citizenry who will soon be taken over by primates. For one, they’re committed to earnestly lobbying for Andy Serkis as Best Actor during awards season, and for two, they’ve signed him to “multiple future installments of the series.” Director Rupert Wyatt was already contractually on board for a second film, and it seems obvious that the success of the first did the heavy lifting of creating a new franchise out of an old one. A sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes is not far off. As Russ Fischer smartly opines over at /film, Serkis may have also, or may also discuss doing second unit for the second film since he...

What is Movie News After Dark? It’s a nightly movie news column that is very sad this evening. Yesterday it was very exciting about the possibilities of asking out Siri, but today sadness has overwhelmed. What’s a near-sentient nightly news column to do? Well, lets do the news, as they said in the old days. As you likely know by now, Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc. and the innovator of a generation, has passed away at age 56. It’s always tough to quantify how one person has impacted society, but in this particular case, it’s hard to imagine what things would have been like without Steve. Film School Rejects, like many a website, was originally designed on a Mac. He laid groundwork for much of the technology we use today. He truly changed lives. For more, I’d encourage you to read Cole’s excellent piece on Steve Jobs’ Movie Legacy: Pixar and...

The Human Centipede 2 screened last night at Fantastic Fest in Austin, and by all accounts, it appears that director Tom Six has made a film that delivers on our expectations (be they good or ill).
