While medical dramas have long been a favorite staple on German TV, a new series helmed by Alex Schaad, director of the award-winning fantasy romance “Skin Deep,” and penned by British writer Samuel Jefferson looks set to give the genre a bold, modern take.
“Krank Berlin” is an eight-part series that follows a young team of doctors in the toughest and most overcrowded medical facility in the city. Underpaid, poorly equipped, chronically overtired and beset with an increasingly callous healthcare system, the doctors nevertheless cope with dark humor, although some turn to more extreme measures.
Produced by Real Film Berlin and Violet Pictures for ZDFneo and based on an idea by creative producer and co-creator Viktor Jakovleski, “Krank Berlin” stars Haley Louise Jones (“Dear Child”) as Zanna Parker, the hospital’s new chief doctor, whose reform measures are immediately met with resistance from the staff, particularly anarchist emergency doctor Ben,...

I usually don’t pay too much attention to what the church has to say, but then The Catholic Review referred to Deliver Us as “A blast furnace of blasphemy” and continued, saying that “Deliver Us” (Magnet), also is an amalgam of gore and nudity.” How could I pass up a film that came so highly recommended?
It certainly opens on a bloody note as a row of kneeling men and women are killed and skinned for the elaborate tattoos on their backs. In a remote Russian convent Sister Yulia awakes from a nightmare of the killings and finds she’s showing the signs of the Stigmata. Even more shocking, she’s pregnant with twins, and still a virgin.

At one time Jack Walker was the biggest action star in the world. Well, the biggest action star in Germany. But those days are long gone, and even the Dtv film offers have dried up. With the bills piling up he has no choice but to take a role in an uber low-budget film he feels is beneath him.
His feelings seem to be confirmed when Steve (Ben Plunkett-Reynolds; Jack and Ralph Plan a Murder), the director, and his assistant Piet (Bartholomäus Kowalski; Ultimate Justice) are having issues and the stunts keep going wrong. The presence of co-star Sylvia Meadows (Kathrin Höhne; The Hitman Agency) keeps Jack in a good mood though.

When I started watching Skylines, I’ll admit the first thing that surprised me was that this is in fact the third movie. Thankfully with the recap given, this didn’t stop me from enjoying what was to come…
With the friendly alien hybrids now living on Earth, danger looms as a new virus starts to turn them against humans. Captain Rose Corley (Lindsey Morgan) finds herself coerced into leading an elite team of mercenaries on a mission to alien home world in order to try to save what is left of humanity.
The first thing I liked about Skylines is the fact there are plenty of familiar faces who are dependable at providing strong performances.

Friday is here, and that can only mean one thing. The weekly barrage of new releases on VOD have arrived to tempt viewers to part with their hard-earned cash, and there are some real big hitters on offer. To sum up how badly the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus pandemic have affected the theatrical industry, The Croods: A New Age is now available to rent or buy, despite the animated sequel having topped the domestic box office for the last three weekends, and it’s still the number one movie in America as we speak.
This week’s marquee release, however, is undoubtedly Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, which was once being touted as the summer blockbuster capable of single-handedly reviving the cinematic experience from the worst year in recent history. Obviously that wasn’t the case, and the $200 million action thriller is now looking to pull in some big numbers...

To celebrate the release of Skylines, the third and final part of the Skyline trilogy, we sat down with its eclectic cast and filmmakers to find out all about the thrilling third chapter.
Set several years after Skyline and Beyond Skyline, Skylines sees the remaining soldiers on the invaded Earth take the fight to them, heading to their home planet of Colbalt1 to save us all after those aliens living peacefully soon become hostile due to a deadly virus.
Director Liam O’Donnell tells us of the unique challenges of making a third film – and, yes, talk of Batman, Godfather, and more are discussed – whilst still breaking new ground with the story. While cast members Lindsey Morgan, Alexander Siddig, and Daniel Bernhardt tell us about the thrill of making the film and, despite its vast, sci-fi action nature, there are much deeper messages and themes in it than the audience may expect.

2020 may well end up being one of the worse years in recent memory but when we look back at this year, there will be at least one moment of joy in all of it: the release of Skylines.
Hard to believe that it's been ten years since the surprise hit that was Skyline but here we are, three movies and knee deep in mythology and world-building that has lead us to the final showdown. Writer/director Liam O'Donnell returns for the latest installment which stars Lindsey Morgan (one of the best parts of "The 100") as Captain Rose Corley, the leader of an elite team of soldiers sent on a mission to the alien home world in an a last ditch effort to save what's left of the human race.
The new movie also co-stars Jonathan Howard, Rhona Mitra, Alexander Siddig and James Cosmo.

Exclusive: German producer Augenschein, whose Joseph Gordon-Levitt thriller 7500 sold last year to Amazon, is lining up English-language survival movie The Dive.
The thriller is being pitched in the vein of 127 Hours, and charts the story of two sisters with a close but complex bond who go diving at a beautiful, remote location. During their dive, one of the sisters is struck by a rock from a landslide above the water, leaving her trapped on the seabed 28 meters below. With dangerously low levels of oxygen and cold temperatures, it is up to her sister to fight for her life, which in turn puts her own life in jeopardy.
Directing will be German filmmaker Maximilian Erlenwein, known for 2014 crime-thriller Stereo, which played at the Berlinale and was picked up by Netflix, and for 2019 Netflix Germany crime-drama series Skylines. Erlenwein is himself an experienced diver.
Shoot is slated for late Q1/early Q2, 2021, in Sardinia and Germany.

I had initially started this review with a brief history of the place in my heart that I have for the Skyline franchise but you know what? Let me just say that I am a total sci-fi nerd, I love alien invasion film and I especially love a flick that has the balls to have insane ambition and looks to create a wide reaching universe. Skyline has always been that franchise! A franchise that knows exactly what it is and where it wants to be; a franchise that for the budget they have, always pulls out the stops and impresses from start to finish; a franchise that lets be honest doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

Who knew, when the science fiction disaster film Skyline was released in 2010, that it would spawn a series that spanned a decade, to end with the appropriately and hilariously titled third film Skylin3s? "We'll have to push beyond our limits." Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for sci-fi action sequel Skylin3s (aka Skyline 3), from writer / director Liam O'Donnell, with VFX by UK's LipSync. In Skyline (2010) the alien invasion began... in Beyond Skyline (2017) the earth fought back... in Skylin3s, the highly anticipated third installment of the hit sci-fi franchise, an elite team heads to the alien's home planet on a final desperate mission to save humanity. It’s always difficult to bid farewell to a beloved television ensemble, but especially so for the cast of The CW’s The 100. Many viewers have literally grown up alongside these characters, who started as juvenile delinquents and ended as adults who had lived several lifetimes. Even for older viewers, the characters and the actors behind them have become much beloved.
In this case, we can happily say until we meet again, as many cast members have already lined up new projects. Some are jumping immediately into new TV series, while others are exploring film franchises. At least one actor who got the chance to try her hand at directing on The 100 is honing that craft in future projects.

The German DJ-producer-label-owner Cinthie deploys an old R&b sample to lethal effect in “Concentrate,” a relentlessly buoyant house cut from her new album Skylines – City Lights.
Cinthie loops “Concentrate,” a track by the Gaturs and New Orleans R&b stalwart Willie Tee — Diddy borrowed from the same source on 1997’s “Do You Know?” — over a headlong kick drum and a bass line that would make Nile Rodgers proud. The tone of the instruments evokes turn-of-the-century French touch (Stardust’s “Music Sounds Better With You”) or pop that drew from...

This morning Vertical Entertainment reports a company VOD record for the release of Bron Studios Josh Trank Tom Hardy gangster pic Capone with a 10-day gross of $2.5M-plus.
Capone was released on May 12 via on-demand platforms including, but not limited to, iTunes, where it soared to #1 on the charts within its first 3 days of release. VOD figures aren’t always readily reported, but perhaps with more movies going to the platform during Covid-19, distributors will make them more transparent. Reports last had Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour at close to $100M off Pvod, but Warner Bros. never reported anything last weekend on their in-home release of Scoob which was available both for 48-hour rental and digital purchase.
To give you some idea of the momentum of Capone: The pic’s first 10 days rep close to 40% of what Radius’ Bong Joon Ho 2014 movie Snowpiercer made over its first...
