“It’s a good gig,” Jason Mraz says of what he’s calling a “Broadway Retreat,” making his acting and Broadway debut as Dr. Pomatter in a 10-week limited run of Waitress on Broadway.
The singer, who officially took his first bow on Nov. 3, tells Et that eight performances a week onstage at the Brooks Atkinson Theater in New York City is “less grueling” than a typical touring schedule. “I am not leaving town or changing venues. I am not onstage for three hours singing 25 songs. Broadway, in a sense, is easier, at least currently in the role that I’m in.”
Based on the 2007 film starring Keri Russell, Waitress tells the story of Jenna Hunterson, currently played by Betsy Wolfe, a pregnant pie maker in an unhappy marriage who falls in love with her married gynecologist, Dr. Pomatter. “Suddenly this patient comes along who disarms him and has him step out of his comfort zone; a boring...

Matt Bomer attributes his acting skills in part to years of hiding his sexuality.
The 39-year-old recently told actor Andrew Rannells in an interview with Out Magazine about how difficult it was to come out to his family and how his big secret taught him how to be a better performer.
"One of the ways I learned how to act, really, is by having secrets, and having to function as a kid in a public school in suburban Bible Belt Texas," Bomer explained. "Subsequently I worked on a gas pipeline with my brother for a while — there were ex-cons with us. It was not an environment where it was safe to be gay."

Matt Bomer is sharing his coming out story and the difficulties he faced in telling his parents about his sexuality, saying the experience caused him to fight for his family.
Bomer, a native of Missouri, told Out Magazine he was raised in a conservative Christian home where he wasn’t allowed to watch “secular” TV. The actor, who realized he was gay while performing classics such as Romeo and Juliet and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, knew telling his parents would be a challenge.
“Telling your family is a huge, huge deal,” Bomer, 39, told the publication.

It appears someone in the universe has decided to remake Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Yes. The Musical. You know, the one with Donny Osmond and all the songs. Well, apparently Elton John thought it was a good idea so here we are. To make matters better (worse?) it is planned to be an animated film. It was announced at CinemaCon 2017 on Tuesday by Adam Fogelson, chairman of Stx's Motion Picture group. The production company known for such great works as The Gift and Secret in Their Eyes. And I'm not even trying to be facetious. They only started in 2015, so their slate of movies is very little.
For those who are completely ignorant of the musical, it is about Joseph, from the bible, who got a colorful coat because he was best boy of his family, and his brothers got in a hissy and sold him to slavers.

Broadway lyricist Tim Rice, whose credits include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Chess, and Aida, is more than just a wordsmith — he’s also an adept juggler. When the songwriter hunkered down to pen tunes for 1994's The Lion King, he also found himself recruited for Aladdin, taking over after the sudden passing of lyricist Howard Ashman. Rice had never written for an animated movie before. “I had two shots at it,” he says with a relieved laugh “Both worked, I'm glad to say.”With composer Alan Menken tied up on Aladdin, Rice searched for a second collaborator who could give The Lion King a “rock presence.” Elton John made perfect sense: Rice had penned “Legal Boys” for the musician’s 1982 album Jump Up!, he admired John's composing talents, and they were both British (“I was biased,” Rice jokes). When John agreed to join him,...

Those two film events are a Noah - currently sailing into cinemas worldwide - and an Exodus, which is set to occur in December. Though it feels a bit disrespectful to compare holy writ with public transport, the well-known idiom about waiting for buses feels apt here. Perhaps singing "the Old Testament films came two-by-two,...

Elton John and his Rocket Pictures are looking to produce an animated big screen adaptation of the classic musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. They've already acquired the rights to the musical from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Producer Steve Hamilton Shaw had this to say in a statement,
"Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one of the most popular musical experiences ever conceived. We are excited about the huge potential of a contemporary animated version, and we're thrilled to bring this to the big screen in partnership with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice."
I was never a big fan of this musical, but if done properly I can see it being a very successful animated movie. After all, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the most performed musical in history, and almost everyone is familiar with it.

Elton John is making further inroads into the field of animation. The singer has acquired film rights to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," the blockbuster stage musical that enjoyed lucrative runs on London's West End and later Broadway in the '70s and '80s. John is planning to adapt the show into an animated feature; a live-action version starring Donny Osmond was released straight-to-video in 1999. "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat "is based on the story of Joseph and his "coat of many colors" from the Old Testament. Rocket Pictures previously enjoyed success in...

A crash of drums, a flash of light. Now, Joseph’s coat will be in our sights, thanks to Elton John. Today, John’s production company, Rocket Pictures, picked up the rights to Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s beloved musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, hoping to turn it into an animated musical. John will executive produce the film alongside Rice (John’s partner in writing Broadway musicals) and David Furnish (John’s actual partner).
For those unfamiliar with the tale from the end of the Book of Genesis or Webber and Rice’s lavish musical, Joseph tells the story of forefather Jacob’s favourite son, who received from his father a dazzling multi-coloured coat. After his jealous brothers sell him into slavery, Joseph finds redemption as a Pharoah’s assistant, due to his ability to interpret dreams.

Looking to build on the success of Gnomeo & Juliet (and its developing, Sherlock-spoofing sequel), Elton John’s Rocket Pictures has made a deal for more music-fuelled animation, scoring the rights to Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber stage version of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The musical, which was spawned from the Joseph story in the Book of Genesis, was originally first intended as a production for schools. While it is still performed many times a year by kids around the world – it’s the most performed musical in history, trivia fans – the Broadway, London and other touring professional stage versions are what have made it a massive hit, hoovering up awards and running consistently on tour in the UK for 30 years. So you can sort of see why Rocket Pictures might think this has some name recognition. The story sees Joseph sold into slavery by his brothers, jealous...
