In 1977, Dolly Parton sat down for an interview with Barbara Walters. She was in the middle of crossing over into the pop charts and wanted to increase her star power. She gave a number of interviews at this time, including the one with Walters. When she told people she was doing an interview with Walters, they warned her not to. Parton shared why those who knew her thought this was a mistake.
Dolly Parton said people warned her not to take an interview with Barbara Walters
Parton has often spoken about her rapport with late-night hosts. She did well in interviews with them, but the people close to her warned her about Walters. Parton didn’t find her very frightening, though.
“When I decided to do my first Barbara Walters special, a lot of people warned, ‘Oh, you’re crazy to do that! She’ll chew you up and spit you out,...

Dolly Parton and husband Carl Dean had a rushed wedding ceremony and an even more rushed honeymoon. Here’s why the couple had such limited time together during and after their special day.
Dolly Parton and Carl Dean’s wedding
The “Two Doors Down” singer and Dean decided they wanted to get married because they lived too far apart from each other. Being a traditional man, Dean didn’t want to move in with Parton until they were married. But Parton’s record label told her not to tie the knot. They thought it’d affect her image. Even so, Parton and Dean were set on getting married. So they snuck off to Ringgold, Georgia, a town famous for their hasty weddings.
The couple, plus Parton’s mother Avie Lee, arrived in Ringgold on a Friday. But as they began the small ceremony at city hall, Parton realized she wanted...

It’s ugly, it’s violent, it’s graphic novelist Frank Miller’s nasty vision through and through. Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition brings out the amazing backstory of the production of this stop-motion- intensive first sequel to RoboCop. Druglord Caine is a menace, but we’re just as appalled by the film’s vivid depiction of a greater terror: Predatory Privatization.

A few years ago the editors of Shadowlocked asked me to compile a list of what was initially to be, the ten greatest movie matte paintings of all time. A mere ten selections was too slim by a long shot, so my list stretched considerably to twenty, then thirty and finally a nice round fifty entries. Even with that number I found it wasn’t easy to narrow down a suitably wide ranging showcase of motion picture matte art that best represented the artform. So with that in mind, and due to the surprising popularity of that 2012 Shadowlocked list (which is well worth a visit, here Ed), I’ve assembled a further fifty wonderful examples of this vast, vital and more extensively utilised than you’d imagine – though now sadly ‘dead and buried’ – movie magic.
It would of course be so easy to simply concentrate on the well known, iconic,...

While attending the Bizarre AC II in Atlantic City, we had a chance to chat three-on-one with Killer Klowns from Outer Space creators, the Chiodo Brothers, and the subjects ranged from their most famous film to contemporary genre cinema and lots more.
Settle in because the three of them, Stephen, Edward and Charlie, covered a lot of ground in a short amount of time. They have thick Bronx accents and talk very fast with great excitement and enthusiasm but without the hand gesticulation you would expect from a bunch of New Yorkers. Or perhaps the space in the booth was too tight to really see that kind of display in action.
Each brother built upon the other’s remarks, fast from topic to topic. Stephen added pointed conversation when necessary, but he, much like me, sat back while Edward and Charlie took center stage. Along with Killer Clowns from Outer Space of course,...

The Scandal star and her husband, former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha, welcomed their daughter - named Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha - in La on April 21. The fact that baby Isabelle's birth was kept under wraps doesn't come as much of a surprise, as Kerry is pretty good at keeping her personal life private. She and Nnamdi married in a secret ceremony in June 2013, and even though pregnancy rumors swirled soon after, Kerry didn't confirm her mom-to-be status until she hit the red carpet at the Golden Globes earlier this year. Long before filmmakers had access to the finest digital effects the industry has to offer, they had to get creative with matte paintings to blend like actors into locations and environments that couldn.t be achieved in real life. These are delicate works of art that date back to the early 20th century, when painters and artists helped directors achieve a nearly impossible vision. The website ShadowLocked.com writes a thorough history of the art of matte painting, singling out accomplished artists like Walter Percy Day, Peter Ellenshaw, Mark Sullivan and more. Beyond that, the site names what it believes to be the 50 greatest matte paintings, including imagery from such classics as Mary Poppins (above) to near-misses like Ghostbusters II, which often looked prettier than it deserved to look. This montage shows matte painting artist Matt Yuricich working on Ben-Hur, to give you an idea how a painter would create...

The art of the glass shot or matte painting is one which originated very much in the early ‘teens’ of the silent era. Pioneer film maker, director, cameraman and visual effects inventor Norman Dawn is generally acknowledged as the father of the painted matte composite, with other visionary film makers such as Ferdinand Pinney Earle, Walter Hall and Walter Percy Day being heralded as making vast contributions to the trick process in the early 1920’s.
Boiled down, the matte process is one whereby a limited film set may be extended to whatever, or wherever the director’s imagination dictates with the employment of a matte artist. In it’s most pure form, the artist would set up a large plate of clear glass in front of the motion picture camera upon which he would carefully paint in new scenery an ornate period ceiling, snow capped mountains, a Gothic castle or even an alien world.

New York — Fans and industry folks gathered at the famed Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village on Wednesday night to get an advanced listen to John Mayer's new album, the country-fried, introspective Born and Raised.
Before the album even played, Neil Young songs blasted through the hallowed halls of the studio. Given Mayer's vibe on Born and Raised, which pays homage to the Young sound of the 1970s, it all made sense. When Mayer's album was eventually put on, it was an easy transition from Young's jangly guitar and harmonica to Mayer's own on the album, out Tuesday.
The album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios, and the Big Apple is referenced on some tracks, as on many Mayer songs before.

This year we lost some of our brightest stars: artists that spanned the genres of rock, hip-hop and pop, as well as TV and film. They were at different stages in their careers — some just starting to rise, others already legends — but all left a distinct mark on pop culture, and their deaths affected us deeply.
Beloved hip-hop icons Nate Dogg and Heavy D influenced the generations of artists who followed them. Nate (born Nathaniel Hale) died at age 41 after suffering several health setbacks related to a stroke. One of the key players in the birth of the West Coast G-Funk sound, the crooner's silky smooth vocals touched classic tracks from Snoop Dogg and Warren G to 50 Cent and Ludacris.

People choosing things is always a good reason to throw a huge party, right? At least that's what the folks behind the 2011 People's Choice Awards thought, so they tricked out this year's trophy handout with a super starry lineup of celebs and a few fun performances.
Host Queen Latifah kicked off the festivities with a huge musical number, barreling down the aisles of Los Angeles' Nokia Theater in a black suit, big jewels and casual kicks, flanked by scores of dancers thrusting their fists in the air to Taio Cruz's "Dynamite." The Queen even got the audience to join in the fun, as the sea of celebs waved their hands in the air as the hip-hop legend-turned-Hollywood player rhymed over the peppy track.

The tragic wave of suicides among young people who have been targeted because of their sexuality has prompted several celebs to speak out against bullying.
In recent weeks, teens such as Rutgers University student Tyler Clementi and 13-year-old Seth Walsh have taken their lives after enduring taunts and humiliating incidents regarding their sexual orientation. Blogger Perez Hilton and several gay activists have spoken out against teen bullying, and columnist Dan Savage has started the YouTube channel "It Gets Better" to offer support, urging Lgbt youth not to resort to suicide for relief from vicious teasing.

"I think it's going to be great," he told "Et." "It's going to be super exciting, and I'm thrilled."
In addition to "The Pacific," Malek has appeared in various films and TV shows, most recently in the "Night at the Museum" movies as Ahkmenrah. He is also in Tom Hanks' upcoming film "Larry Crowne."

At New York Comic-Con in February, MTV News named Mad Max — the post-apocalyptic gun-slinger with an itch for bloody revenge made famous by Mel Gibson in three George Miller films — as the fourth greatest big-screen badass of all time.
Now, with a fourth "Mad Max" film in development, the question becomes: Can anyone possibly replace Gibson as the freak-fighting adventurer? "RocknRolla" star Tom Hardy is going to do his best.
Recently, MTV News had a chance to chat with the man who will likely replace Mel in the next film, and Hardy spoke about the casting process, how he would approach taking the place of an icon and the fact that nothing — despite reports to the contrary — has been made official.

Congress on Monday called for an aspiring reality TV show couple to testify and explain how they successfully crashed a private White House dinner party last Tuesday night, according to a new report. CNN reports that House Homeland Security Committee chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson is asking for both the couple and the head of the Secret Service, Mark Sullivan, to testify at a hearing on Thursday about the breakdown in security that ultimately allowed the couple to meet President Barack Obama without being on the party's guest list. "This is a time for answers, recognition of security deficiencies past and present, and remedies to ensure the strength of the Secret Service and the safety of those under its protection," Thompson said in a statement to CNN. "This is not the time for political games or scapegoating to distract our attention from the careful oversight we must apply to the Secret Service and its mission.

Since The Dish Rag is still pretty shocked over how on earth anyone slipped by the secret service we thought "When Michaele and Tareq Met Barack" seems like a fitting title for this scenario. If Ashton Kutcher's MTV series was still airing we'd almost think the nation was being Punk'd.
Especially since the Virginia couple -- Michaele and Tareq Salahi-- who crashed the White House state dinner actually shook hands and met President Barack Obama that night.
Or, to put it another way, a pair of reality TV wannabes/supposed socialites (Translation: loons) actually got within spitting distance of the President of the United States without intense security clearance.
Craziest. Story. Ever. (Well, one of them anyway. We do cover Hollywood 24/7 after all).
The Secret Service admits they are too blame and are "deeply concerned and embarrassed," as well they should be.
A Secret Service spokesman says that the...

On Wednesday, talk-show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres was announced as the newest celebrity judge on "American Idol." But she isn't joining the show as one of its many guest judges. In a move that puzzled some "Idol" fans, DeGeneres is coming onboard as Paula Abdul's official replacement. And she hopes that by taking the job, she hasn't offended anyone.
"Paula was a huge part of the show, and that's a role that needs to be filled by someone in a totally different way," DeGeneres told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show on Thursday (September 10). "I hope Paula's Ok with it. I don't want anyone to think I took Paula's job away."
When she joins Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell at the judges' table,...

They are used to competing against each other on Dancing With the Stars, but when Thursday's Emmy nominations [1] were announced, Dancing with the Stars siblings Julianne and Derek Hough emerged as joint nominees for outstanding choreography. "I can't think of a better person to be nominated with," Julianne tells People from Idaho Falls, Idaho. On tour this summer -- and appearing on select dates with country legend George Strait -- Julianne, 20, says her only regret is not being able to celebrate the nomination in person with her brother Derek, 24. "I texted him earlier today. My first time being nominated for an Emmy last year was surreal and awesome, but this time around is more special because Derek and I choreographed to fit our personalities and not the celebrities we dance with on the show," Julianne explains. The sibling duo is nominated for an exhibition dance they choreographed and performed on...
