A previous version of this story reported that Dirty John would return for a second season on Netflix. Netflix has since released a statement denying those reports. This story has been updated accordingly.
Dirty John is officially getting a second season, but with a twist. The nail-biting dating horror story was acted out by Connie Britton and Eric Bana, and the next iteration will focus on an all-new cast and storyline. The second season will also have a new home, as Variety recently announced that the drama will be moving from Bravo to the USA Network.
If you've seen the first season, you know Dirty John retold the events discussed in the popular true crime podcast of the same name. It details the manipulative and abusive relationship between successful interior designer Debra Newell (Britton) and a deceitful doctor named John Meehan (Bana).

NBCUniversal is moving “Dirty John” from Bravo over to USA Network for its second season.
The series, which starred Connie Britton and Eric Bana, was initially given a two-season order. The anthology series will feature a completely new storyline in the new season.
The move puts “Dirty John” alongside USA Network’s scripted dramas “Mr. Robot,” “The Sinner” and the upcoming “Briarpatch” with Rosario Dawson. The network also aired reruns of “Law & Order: Svu.” Bravo, meanwhile, is more known for its unscripted fare.

Based on the articles and true crime podcast from Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard, the first season of “Dirty John” told the true story of how a romance between Debra Newell (Britton) and the charismatic John Meehan (Bana) spiraled into secrets, denial, manipulation, and ultimately, a fight for survival for an entire family.

Breakout true-crime anthology series Dirty John will be moving from Bravo to sister NBCUniversal network USA for its second season, expected to premiere in 2020.
Dirty John received a two-season straight-to-series order by Bravo in January 2018. With its first season, starring Connie Britton and Eric Bana, Dirty John became the highest-rated scripted series ever on the network, with ratings growing throughout its run.
A move to a bigger network with established scripted footprint is expected to help the series expand its reach similarly to the ratings bump RuPaul’s Drug Race got on the unscripted side when it moved from Logo to VH1.
At USA, Dirty John joins another crime anthology series, The Sinner, as well as off-network staple Law & Order: Svu. USA’s scripted slate also includes Mr. Robot, Queen of the South, Briarpatch, Treadstone, Dare Me, Brave New World, The Purge, Suits and spinoff Pearson.

NBCUniversal is getting in on the show-shuffling act.
“Dirty John” will be departing Bravo for its NBCU sister USA Network for its second season, which is expected to air in 2020.
The shift seems to makes tonal sense for the conglomerate, given that Bravo is known primarily for its unscripted content (think “Project Runway” and “Top Chef”), while USA has a portfolio which more closely resembles the tone of “Dirty John,” with crime shows such as “Law & Order: Svu” and dark dramas like “Mr. Robot” on its slate.
Plus, “Dirty John” is a co-production between Netflix and Ucp, which already has deep roots at USA with “Mr. Robot,” “The Sinner” and “Suits” all established at the network.

Podcast company Wondery is stepping up its television activities following the success of Dirty John and is in talks with high-level showrunners to adapt its latest hit Over My Dead Body.
The company, which was set up by former Fox International Channels boss Hernan Lopez, is developing a number of its serialized podcast series for the small screen, including dark medical drama Dr Death, Business Wars and Gladiator, the story of ex-New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez.
It is now plotting a TV remake of Over My Dead Body, which just ended its six-part run atop the Apple podcast charts, and is in the process of hiring its first in-house development executive to take a more hands on approach to adaptations.
The first season of Over My Dead Body, subtitled Tally, is the story of Dan Markel and his wife Wendi, two good-looking attorneys whose wedding is featured in the New York Times.

TV's latest binge-able show is based on a fascinating true story, so why does it feel vaguely underwhelming?
This article contains spoilers for Dirty John, the TV series and the podcast. It originally ran on Den of Geek UK.
A series of articles in the La Times, a podcast that was downloaded over 10 million times in its first six weeks of release and now an eight-part TV drama that debuted on Bravo and has just landed on Netflix in international markets, Dirty John is the latest insane true life story to come to the small screen.
It tells the story of John Meehan, a con artist and general scumbag who seduced and insinuated himself into the life of successful business owner Debra Newell. A whirlwind romance built on lies quickly turns nasty as Debra and her family begin to uncover the truth about John’s past, ending in violence.

True stories are all the rage on TV this month, with nonfiction looks at Richard Nixon’s darkest hour, the booming business of art trading and the political side of the N.B.A. (as well as scripted takes on an Irl prison break and bad romance, respectively). On the fiction side, HBO’s got one import from Britain and another from Italy, each structured around a woman seizing control of her life; and AMC drops an intense John le Carré adaptation. Here’s what you’ll be tuning in to this November.

Dirty John has already given us some amazing shots of series star and executive producer Connie Britton's hair, and done its best to turn us off of dating, and now in E! Dirty John is the name of a podcast that started being released in October of 2017. Given its name, it should come as no surprise to learn that the podcast was centered around a man named John Meehan, who was sometimes nicknamed either Dirty John or something similar because of something that happened in his past at the University of Dayton. However, what is interesting is that the podcast wasn’t fiction but rather an excellent example of investigative journalism carried out by the journalist Christopher Goffard, who has had the honor of being nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. I like Eric Bana (Hulk, Troy, Munich, Star Trek) as an actor and I think he's totally underrated, so it's great to see him land a solid acting gig! He is set to star alongside Connie Britton in a new true-crime anthology series coming to Bravo called Dirty John.
The series already has a two-season order locked in. This is the first time that Bana will star in a U.S. TV series and he will take on the role of a character named John Meehan, "a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies." The series will tell the true-story of how a romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, denial and manipulation."
The story was recounted in a podcast hosted by La Times writer Christopher Goffard. There's also a documentary series in development at Oxygen Media that will tell the story.

Leonard Cohen’s classic song gets the Vr treatment in this unexpectedly immersive and beautiful take on “Hallelujah.” Los Angeles-based musician Bobby Halvorson performs a five-part a cappella arrangement in-the-round, allowing the viewer to get a full 360-degree experience with the audio and visual changing depending on which direction the user is facing. First premiering at the 2017 Tribeca Film Festival in April, “Hallelujah” was released to the public on Cohen’s birthday. “Combining the transportive qualities of music with virtual reality results in an incredibly emotional and gripping experience, we hope the launch of ‘Halleujah’ will provide a chance for people to connect with the iconic ballad in an entirely new way,” Within co-founder and CEO Chris Milk said in a statement to Et.

There’s truly no place quite like Hollywood. For the third straight year, the TCM Classic Film Festival was staged in the historic center of the world’s film industry.
