The Independence Day weekend tends not to be a big one for specialized audiences. Upscale viewers, particularly in the biggest cities, often pursue other interests, many of them out of town. But prime theaters still need new product, offering opportunities for new releases to take their shot.
The best among the limited openers this weekend was the Polish-French nun story “The Innocents” (Music Box), bucking the recent trend of weak subtitled films. Next best among the limited new releases was the heart-tugging Sundance autism documentary “Life, Animated” (The Orchard) which nonetheless opened a little below some other recent docs.
Going wider initially was “Our Kind of Traitor,” the latest John le Carré thriller, which fell short of Roadside Attractions’ “A Most Wanted Man” two years ago.

Country Music Television (Cmt) is taking aim at another obsession of “country” culture: Law-enforcement. Sheriffs and bounty hunters are joining the ranks of Stetson-wearing crooners in a pair of new shows, set to begin debuting late this year.
But you know how the tastes of the mainstream run: They like the same old shit, just a bit different. Cmt will oblige.
The three main stars of the upcoming line-up will be faces all-too-familiar to the self-parody that country culture has become. Give a guess – it ain’t that hard.
Did you say Larry the Cable Guy, Jeff Foxworthy and Bill Engvall? Well congratulations, you just stated the obvious, and you’re damn right. The voices for the animated series, creatively called Bounty Hunters, are redneck comedy’s top talents.
Bounty Hunters will premiere in 2013. I don’t know the plot, but it doesn’t take a media guru to figure it out.

We take a look at both the 'actual' and 'bizarro' Grammys (and try to pick some winners) in Bigger Than The Sound.

Last year, when the Arcade Fire shocked everybody (especially Dog the Bounty Hunter) by winning Album of the Year at the Grammys, it set in motion a chain of events that culminated in one rather troubling realization: Perhaps everything has changed.
I say troubling because, really, the Grammys have never been cool (and there is something like five decades of empirical evidence to back up that claim), and voters bestowing the night's top award on an indie act — instead of Eminem, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, each of whom were also nominated — was a hip, hip move. So it stood to reason that, if one of the stuffiest of award shows could get with the times, then perhaps everyone could. Perhaps...

Director Patrick McBrearty’s “Bail Enforcers” has been magically transformed into “Bounty Hunters” for its upcoming DVD release, which will arrive here in the States towards the tail end of February. It could have gone south easily, as the 'Tiger Blood Warlock' of primetime TV was feted by an interesting group of roasters. But overall it worked, and the news that Sheen has a movie, a TV series and is still breathing lends some truth to all that 'winning' chatter. Missing were the Comedy Central stalwarts: Lisa Lampinelli, Whitney Cummings, Gilbert Gottfried. In their place were the supremely talented Jon Lovitz and William Shatner, the latter, at age 80+, showing kids how pros make a funny. Vin Diesel has used the quiet of the Labor Day holiday weekend as an opportunity to release some more pre-release stuff from David Twohy's "Riddick", the upcoming third film featuring his character from "Pitch Black" and "The Chronicles of Riddick".
In a posting he revealed a new concept art sketch and confirmed that the film is definitely going ahead with an R-rating. Shooting is slated to kick off sometime soon in Canada:
"While I was working on character, the Director and his team of artists have been creating the world and style of this picture. We all know how much I enjoy concept art and storyboards, haha, I am like a kid in a candy shop.
Seeing the early stage of CGI is always fascinating to me, it is a element that usually comes together long after the filming process, so you look forward to seeing it fully realized.

Originally showcasing novels, fantasy and film/television and related popular arts, the convention has expanded over the years to include a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, anime, manga, animation, toys, collectible card games, video games and web entertainment.
One of the more exciting aspects of the event is the presentations by Anchor Bay. This year Anchor Bay’s featured guests include Michael Biehn of The Divide & Bereavement, Art Hindle & Robert Maillet of Monster Brawl, & Trish Stratus of Bounty Hunters.

Check out the trailer for the Danish CGI comedy Jensen & Jensen from director Craig Frank. I can’t say much about it since it is his first feature and from my understanding the film is still not complete. However I can say that it looks like a lot of fun.
Here is the official plot synopsis:
Copenhagen 2019, the financial crisis has taken a turn for the worst. Romanians have out bid all construction, Hell’s Angels have taken over Police duties and the government is run by the Bank of Denmark. Unemployment, inflation and crime have gone sky high creating the birth of the Bounty Hunter.
Under such dire straits are Bjarne and Jimmy, brothers with their own life threatening financial debt. They are forced to hunt Europe’s most dangerous criminal Milo who has devious plans to control world currency destroying Denmark in its process. However, Bjarne and Jimmy are neither smart,...

Would-be Jedi Knights and Sith Lords are counting down the days until the release of "Star Wars: The Old Republic," the massively multiplayer online game that takes places thousands of years before the events of the six Skywalker movies. Players will be able to create characters in classes that map closely to the iconic roles of the game, so Bounty Hunters and Smugglers will let you get your Boba Fett and Han Solo on, respectively.
The game's going to launch globally, but EA and Bioware is making sure that denizens of cultures across the galaxy will be able to play. Behold the Shrywook translation of "The Old Republic!"

This is, of course, an April Fool's joke. But it's one that gans probably wouldn't mind seeing in the final version of the game. "Star Wars: The Old Republic" comes to PCs later this year.

No one is really sure when we'll be seeing BioWare's first entry into the massively multiplayer space with "Star Wars: The Old Republic," but at least the developer is taking care of fans with regular news updates on what the seemingly epic game will offer. The fully voice-acted Mmo will attempt to correct past mistakes made in "Star Wars: Galaxies" by delivering a story-driven space opera that honors the source while taking advantage of the unique aspects of the massively multiplayer space. That's the hope, anyway. Today finally brings some new information on the game's bounty hunter class, which was the first one announced way back in 2008.
It seems like the bounty hunter class breaks down into two general categories, Powertech and Mercenary. The info comes from a newly posted character description appearing on the game's official website.

The Super Bowl is in full swing and of course so are the commercials and trailer spots. We have the Fast Five trailer spot so you can watch over and over again. In the film, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are joined by some friends from the other films like Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson, Sung Kang and Jordana Brewster. Together they are on the run from a team of Bounty Hunters lead by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Finding itself far more focused than the first season, season two of George Lucas's Star Wars TV spin-off continues the saga by embroiling us even further in the Clone War conflict and a galaxy at war. As the fight between the Republic and the Separatists escalates, season two takes us through 22 episodes of action, adventure and high-quality animation.
All the characters are back: Obi Wan, Anakin, Windu, Padme, Dooku, Grievous, the ever-obnoxious Ahsoka, and an increasingly bitter Bobba Fett. There are new characters of course, and the expansion of the Star Wars universe gains plus points with these new additions. Fett fans in particular will enjoy one particular story arc concerning the young Bobba and his rag tag band of bounty hunters.
Other highlights include a two-part story arc concerning the Zillo Beast, a monster of gargantuan proportions allowed to run amuck on Coruscant; while the episode ‘Bounty Hunters...

Once in a while an underground niche will burst to the surface and lay down a title that has the power to reach a wider audience. That's exactly the kind of film Godkiller is. For a select few it will not be all that original as they are familiar with the niche, others will hate this film with a vengeance. But there's an important third group which will consider the film a real eye opener. Guess that's what happened to me.
Pizzolo markets Godkiller as an illustrated film. A very close relative to the motion comic but with more cinematic ideals in mind. Motion comics try to bring life to existing material, illustrated films aim for an original cinematic experience through the use of illustrations. The techniques used to accomplish both visions might be quite similar, but the illustrated film is way more ambitious than the motion comic.

HollywoodNews.com: How’s this for a change of pace: apparently, some scenes had to be cut from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows because they were too gory.
According to comments made to Absolute Radio DJ Christian O’Connell, Nick Moran – who plays snatcher Scabior in the final two Harry Potter films, “the scenes I did were really, really dark.” Some of his scenes did not make the final cut of the film and when he asked why, producer David Heyman stated that the scenes were like “watching Saw“.

The Big Bad is a new feature-length horror/fantasy from writer Jessi Gotta and director Bryan Enck, with a performance by one of our fave character actors, Alan Rowe Kelly, and FX by NYC filmmaker Jane Rose. And we've got a whole bunch of gruesome stills to show you.
If you never thought that Little Red Riding Hood would make for a great revenge flick, you're lame. It's a perfect opportunity for a 21st Century Red Riding Hood to take her revenge out on the evil, vile wolf patriarchy that has kept her on the road to Grammy's for centuries.
It seems to be a growing trend - Catherine Hardwicke is hard at work on her own Red Riding Hood horror adaptation, and filmmaker Brad Palmer's Blood Redd, an independent werewolf/Red Riding Hood film, is soon to be released.

Day 20
I inspected my troops shortly before we arrived to Coruscant. I congratulated each and every one of them for a terrific job done on Ryloth. We gave hope to the Twi'Lek people.
As I entered the Jedi temple I felt I was despised by some, respected by others. But in general, they wasn't too keen on the way I used the Force... Nor how I betrayed Master Windu and Yoda.
I filed my report on my activities on Ryloth and saw the news... The Separatists are gaining territorries at an unpressedented rate. However their attack seem random, at least to us.

I was ordered to go to Kamino, to stay there and take care of that world's protection, but since Kamino's Clone production are still a secret amongst most of the galaxy, I decided to stay a while longer. Now I am at the temple's archives. I need...

We secretly landed on a deserted forest. We are laying down our strategy...

Usually the Mandalorian Bounty Hunters settle in an area 250km away from here... Equiped with portable steath generators we are heading on foot. The Deltas will then separate into 4 different paths while Srim and the other Clones will take their own, and I will take my path. It is a simple recon mission. Off we go!R17 will stay with the ship, monitoring communications and making sure we remain undetected.

Nightfall now... We walked about 50km... We are all together but we are so tired... Too bad we can't make a fire to warm us...

Grimm's classic Fairy Tale Hansel and Gretel is getting a brand new 3D, action-packed visual effects filled adaptation. The new film is being developed by Kalliope Films and Michael Bay's The Institute. The classic story follows two young kids who stumble upon a house made of candy, and a witch the likes to eat children.
I have no idea what to expect from this film. I love the story of Hansel and Gretel, it's extreamly dark and disturbing and could make for a great horror film. One of the things the film will do is introduce some legendary creatures from German mythology, which are being created by Joseph C. Pepe, the lead character designer from Avatar. This definitely has the potential to be a fun movie, I just hope it doesn't end up being a cheaply made bad film.
There's also another Hansel and Gretel movie being made...

As a fan fave, Boba Fett is largely known as the legendary bounty hunter in the “Star Wars” series, but the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will take fans to a young Boba, at ten or eleven years old. “Clone Wars” supervising director, Dave Filoni, talks to IGN about how they tackled the storyline of a young Boba Fett. Here are excerpts from that interview:
Q: It’s no secret that Boba Fett has such meaning to Star Wars fans, so when George [Lucas] came in and said, “Ok, I want to do a Boba Fett story,” what was your reaction?
Dave Filoni: It’s exciting, because when something like that comes from him, then I know that we should be doing it. It’s always important to me that it’s motivated by George, that it’s the story he wants to tell, and he weighs in...

Title: "Bounty Hunters"
Writer / Director: Carl Ellsworth / Stewart Lee
Tagline: "Courage makes heroes, but trust builds friendship."
Story: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tanno are dispatched to Felucia to investigate a loss of contact with a Republic medical station in orbit there. A run-in with some Separatist vulture droids leaves the trio of Jedi stranded on the planet's surface. Searching for a way back home, they come across a settlement of terrified farmers. Apparently the wily pirate Hondo Ohnaka is up to his old tricks, demanding a portion of the crop in exchange for not blasting the crap out of everyone. So the farmers bring in a quartet of bounty hunters to protect them, leading to a tentative alliance between Jedi and hired guns.
The Return Of Hondo: When we last saw Hondo, he'd somehow managed to capture Count Dooku And two Jedi, Anakin and Obi-Wan. True, the Force-users made good on an escape,...

The second season has been a strong one for "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." The highlight so far has been a lengthy arc set around a campaign on Geonosis, but we've also seen some familiar faces (Mon Mothma!), a lot of killer action and Anakin's continued slip towards the Dark Side which will one day transform him into Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith. And we're not through yet! The three-episode season-ending arc will finally bring in a young Boba Fett!
That's still a few weeks away though. Tonight's episode brings back an old friend, the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka, who was last seen capturing and imprisoning Count Dooku and, later, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. The three Force users eventually escaped of course, and Ohnaka fled the scene, fearful at the realization that he'd made a powerful enemy in Dooku. There are few things as cool as a bounty hunter. Going purely on the basis of movies and television, it's the ideal gig when you lack the commitment to be a cop (even a loose cannon cop) and you don't want the ruthless immorality of the bloody stuff. Of course, cinema's bounty hunters run the gamut from Gerard Butler's mellow Milo in The Bounty Hunter to the ruthless killers of Sergio Leone, so the boundaries between "hitman" and "hunter" are often blurred.
But the difference between an assassin and a bounty hunter isn't financial (assassins are often guns for hire), but one of publicity. If you kill people for a living, you have to basically live off the grid. Bounty hunters have to surface, and provide proof that they've brought their quarry in, dead or alive ... or they don't get paid. They willingly wear their profession on their sleeve.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland had a second week at the top with a total to date of $209 million nationwide. Green Zone showed once again that war movies aren't making big box office. Last week's other new releases She's Out of My League, Remember Me and Our Family Wedding did ho-hum numbers with the latter debuting at sixth. Here's the top five:
1. Alice in Wonderland: $62.7 million

Richard B. Riddick. Mercenary, criminal, hero and soon to be proud owner of his own trilogy, the character created by David Twohy in 2000’s Pitch Black, is headed back to the big screen.
It was announced a few weeks ago that ‘Riddick’, the third film in the franchise, would bring back Vin Diesel in the title role and return to the smaller scope of the original film. 2004’s sequel, The Chronicles of Riddick abandoned the dark survival horror underpinnings of Pitch Black and expanded the world in a way that felt like Star Wars meets Conan. It had its moments, but was far from successful.
This past week, at the European Film Market expo, the details of the third entry’s plot were revealed. The Hollywood Reporter provided this synopsis:

While Pitch Black was promoted as a horror flick, its sequel The Chronicles of Riddick took the film in a completely over-the-top direction. With Director David Twohy reteaming with action star Vin Diesel for Riddick, the third entry in the franchise, the question remained as to what direction they'd be going. The initial press release teased "darker", but left us in the dark. Thanks to Efm pre-sales, we've got the official plot crunch that you'll find beyond the break. Darker? Yes. Monsters? Yes. Bounty hunters? Yes. ""Riddick" delivers on both counts. Though billed as a back-to-basics approach to the character popularized by Diesel, the script features the character -- the most wanted man in the galaxy -- left for dead on a barren alien planet, dealing with "trisons" (three-legged bisons) and "mud demons." He must then contend with two squads of bounty hunters, one of which ride rockets called jetcycles.

BioWare's Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Mmo has a pretty cool behind the scenes look at the development process for the Sith class in the wide-spanning adventure game. Set thousands of years before the films (and even before the popular Kotor video games), this Mmo allows you to play as Jedi, Troopers, Bounty Hunters or the evil Sith.
Creating the Sith has been an interesting process for the BioWare developers. They've taken the two types of Sith seen in the movies -- The Emperor's plotting, cunning villainy and Vader's aggressive, assaultive malice -- and used those as the archetypes for the Sith Warrior and Sith Inquisitor classes.
In the video, the Sith Warriors are badass death dealers, while the Inquisitor's are subtle, lightning throwing tormentors, much like the people people I used to work with. The developers note that playing the Sith in the game isn't just about being evil,...
