A couple of months ago, it was announced that June Diane Raphael, who may be best known for playing the character Brianna Hanson for the 94 episodes that make up the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, which ran for seven seasons, is set to star in a TV series reimagining of the classic sitcom Bewitched for Sony Pictures Television. It has also been revealed (via Deadline) that Raphael has been cast in the mysterious horror project called Weapons, the new film from Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger.
Details on the character Raphael will be playing haven’t been revealed, but we do know she’ll be sharing the screen with Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Julia Garner (Ozark), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives). The 4:30 Movie is the sixteenth feature film from director Kevin Smith – and while he was making the movie, he thought he was making something that would get a PG-13 rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. But the MPA saw it differently. When they had the chance to watch the movie earlier this year, they felt the sexual references in the dialogue were enough for the movie to earn an R rating for sexual content. Smith appealed the rating (and subscribers to That Kevin Smith Club got some interesting insight into the appeals process), but the ratings board decided to stick with the R. They confirmed today that The 4:30 Movie will remain an R rated film.
Smith has a history of being able to get his films re-rated on appeal. Clerks and Zack and Miri Make a Porno were both given Nc-17 ratings, but were re-rated R on appeal.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons… which was, at one point, set to star Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us and Renate Reinsve of The Worst Person in the World. Pascal had to leave the project so he could star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reboot of Fantastic Four instead – and even though that much larger production hasn’t started filming yet, as of right now it looks like Fantastic Four is going to beat Weapons to the screen by about six months! While that superhero movie is set to reach theatres on July 25, 2025, New Line has announced (via Deadline) that Weapons has been given a theatrical...

Updated, 12:50 Pm: Ishana Night Shyamalan’s debut film is on the move, again. And the new date is a familiar one. Two months after Warner Bros. shuffled The Watchers back by a week to the June 14-16 Fathers Day frame, the pic is headed back to its original June 7 date.
It’ll have some action-packed company that Friday, going against Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die, the long-gestating fourth film in the nearly 30-year-old franchise. Lionsgate’s The Crow remake also was set for June 7, but that pic flew away from the date about three weeks ago and now is set for August 23.
Warners Bros. is hoping to cater to a female audience with The Watchers.
Also opening wide on June 7 is Vertical Entertainment’s The Exorcism directed by Joshua John Miller.

As a mute avenger against a dystopian tyranny – looking like a lethal Buster Keaton – the actor makes you wish the film itself was as purposeful
Bill Skarsgård – one of eight Skarsgård siblings, six of whom work as actors – has hitherto carved out a bit of a niche as the best one to hire when you need a Skarsgård with a bit of a creepy vibe. He’s played a possibly dangerous stranger (Barbarian), a vampire (Hemlock Grove), delivered an unforgettably nasty Pennywise the Dancing Clown in the recent It, and is about to star as the titular character in The Crow reboot. In Boy Kills World, however, he proves there’s another string to his bow: bona fide action star.
Rippling with muscles, Skarsgård plays Boy, one of those “I am an instrument shaped for a single purpose” types that thrive in the action genre. The single purpose is a time-honoured one: revenge.

“The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night,” reads New Line Cinema’s synopsis.
In addition to Fanning, The Watchers stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman). M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, makes her feature film directorial debut with the thriller. She also adapted A.M. Shine’s novel for the screen.

Last year, New Line Cinema went all-in on a partnership with Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger and the film’s producers at BoulderLight Pictures. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. They signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, tasking the company with developing high concept genre projects for them. And they gave a greenlight to the thriller Companion, produced by BoulderLight and Cregger. Last May, it was announced that Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us had signed on to star in Weapons… and six months later, it was reported that Pascal was also in talks to play Reed Richards in Marvel’s new attempt at bringing the Fantastic Four to the big screen. Last month, a rumor started to circulate that the shooting schedules for Weapons and Fantastic Four were conflicting,...

Known for portraying the DC superhero Aquaman, Jason Momoa started his acting career in the late 90s with the Television series Baywatch Hawaii. Over the years, he has solidified his presence in the industry, landing roles in major franchises like the DC Extended Universe and Fast and Furious. And the actor seems to hold his recent projects in higher regard than his earlier works, as he has shared that he does not let his kids watch his earlier movies and shows.
Jason Momoa returns as Aquaman
While Game of Thrones is an obvious exception, the actor seems more adamant about restricting his children from watching one of the initial films of his career, Conan the Barbarian.

Jon Stewart returned to host The Daily Show on Monday, and within three minutes was already going after Donald Trump — but also Joe Biden, taking a critical look at the president’s apparent age-related issues.
Announcing “Indecision 2024: Electile Dysfunction,” Stewart dove right into special counsel Robert Hur’s report that exonerated President Biden on the matter of mishandling classified documents while also seemingly torpedoing his re-election efforts with its harsh description of Biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. Stewart showed clips of Trump and the former president’s family being deposed and likewise not being able to recall some basic facts. “It turns out that the leading cause of early onset dementia is being deposed,” said Stewart, slipping seemingly effortlessly back into the role of the show’s host (monologue video below).

The adventures of Conan the Barbarian are not, in their purest form, for children. Created by pulp author Robert E. Howard in 1932, the Cimmerian warrior inhabits a cruel world ruled by those who are handiest with a sword or endowed with the power of sorcery. Though Conan is uncommonly chivalric, he is utterly ruthless in combat — and Howard's battle scenes are described in invigoratingly vicious detail. There are impalements and beheadings and wholesale eviscerations. There are also orgies and elements of bondage. But the presence of wizards and dragons and all kinds of nasty monsters means Conan's tales are catnip for kids.
There have been efforts to tone down the sex and violence of Conan's tales, but they are essential to his appeal. Howard wrote with a boundless fury; he roared and raged as he bashed away at his typewriter. The savagery is the point. If you want sanitized, kid-friendly fantasy,...

Up next from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is New Line Cinema’s Weapons, and Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”) had been attached to star. Until this week, that is.
Jeff Sneider reports in his newsletter The Insneider that Pedro Pascal has exited Cregger’s Weapons, reportedly “forced to drop out” of the project “due to his busy schedule.”
Pascal is getting set to begin filming on Season 2 of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” and his busy schedule at the moment also includes the just announced movie The Mandalorian & Grogu.
Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) is currently part of the Weapons cast.
Moving full speed ahead toward a theatrical release, production is anticipated to commence this year. The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures.

"Six lives. Six incarnations." Altered Innocence has revealed the US trailer for a wild & crazy experimental French film called She Is Conann, a unique re-imagining of the classic Conan the Barbarian myth through a modern gender-swapped lens. Yes, you read that right! This premireed at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival last year in Directors' Fortnight, with stops at Fantastic Fest and Sitges. It'll be opening in February in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Denver, and more, with director Bertrand Mandico and the star at opening weekend showings at Anthology Film Archives in NYC. Conan's life at different stages is shown with a different aesthetic and rhythm from the classic Sumerian era to the near future. The film is a barbaric fantasy sci-fi trip that boldly celebrates the influences of Fellini Satyricon, The Night Porter, The Hunger, and Fassbinder’s entire oeuvre to craft a moving portrait of a warrior...

Technology giveth and taketh away. We can watch most movies with the click of a button from our couch but no longer have the joy of going out to the video rental store. We can also buy and digitally “own” any movie at a moment’s notice, but more and more, physical copies of movies aren’t even being made.
The movie theater has stayed the course, however. Through Covid-19 shutdowns, insane movie budgets followed by box office disasters, the rise of quality TV shows like Game of Thrones, streaming, The Flash… theaters have survived, thank God. That being said, each year, more movies conveniently grace us with their presence at home and only at home.
It’s not always a bad thing for films to skip movie theaters entirely. But I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t have been nice to have the option to see...

Earlier this month, a serial killer thriller called Squealer was given a theatrical and digital release. You can watch the trailer for that one Here. It was only a matter of time until Hollywood took a stab at remaking Wes Craven‘s criminally underrated and appreciated The People Under the Stairs, which will be penned by Doom Patrol and Night Sky scribe Ezra Claytan Daniels for Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele‘s Monkeypaw Productions, reports Deadline.
Monkeypaw Productions will produce the film with Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld serving as producers. The project is still in early development.
The original Universal Studios movie, which Craven wrote and directed, and produced with Shep Gordon follows young Fool (Brandon Adams) who breaks into the home of his family’s greedy and uncaring landlords.
There he discovers a disturbing scenario where incestuous adult siblings have mutilated a number of boys and kept them imprisoned under stairs in their large, creepy house. As Fool attempts to flee before the psychopaths can catch him, he meets their daughter, Alice (A.J. Langer...

High concept holiday slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife continues the time honored tradition of injecting horror into cozy holiday fare. Director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls, V/H/S/99) and writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky) blend Scream 2 with It’s a Wonderful Life to plunge its central characters into a bizarro snow globe of horrors, wearing their cinematic influences on their sleeves throughout. It’s not the horror that dominates this high concept mashup, though; It’s a Wonderful Knife is more interested in spreading holiday cheer and warm fuzzy feels.

Over the past few years, horror fans have enjoyed a rejuvenation of the slasher subgenre. Even more exciting is the fact that writers and directors are finding new and creative ways to make slasher movies fun. A great example of this is the body swap horror comedy Freaky (2020), written by Michael Kennedy and Christopher Landon and directed by Landon. Now Kennedy has written the time-travel Christmas slasher It’s a Wonderful Knife, directed by Tyler MacIntyre, who also directed the dark horror comedy Tragedy Girls (2017).
It’s a Wonderful Knife tells the story of teenager Winnie Carruthers, played by Jane Widdop (Yellowjackets), who saves her hometown of Angel Falls from an unhinged killer on Christmas Eve. A year later, struggling to cope with the events of the previous Christmas, Winnie wishes she had never been born and is mysteriously transported to a parallel universe where things are even worse than she could have ever imagined.

To mark the release of his upcoming book, “Be Useful: Tools for Life”, Arnold Schwarzenegger came up with a pretty fitting way to unveil his copies: by using his Conan the Barbarian sword to open the box. Outside of firing a rocket launcher at the box, it seems to be about the coolest way for Schwarzenegger to promote the release.
Not only did Arnold Schwarzenegger get to show off copies of his self-help book – which is now out – to his Instagram followers but he also got his miniature pony Whiskey, donkey Lulu and pig Schnelly in on the fun. And while Arnold is known to be an animal lover, we just don’t see him teaching these barnyard creatures how to read.
