As the results overwhelming came in for the incumbent in the South Carolina Democratic primary this evening, the first stop for Biden out on the West Coast is a campaign meeting in Bel Air, according to a White House pool report.
A source said that the meeting was at the home of George Lucas. Before the Star Wars creator bought the house in 2017, the residence was owned by H. Ross Perot Jr. and before that, by Freddy DeMann, the producer and music executive who was the co-founder of Maverick Records, according to Variety’s reports on the real estate transactions.
Lucas’ wife, Mellody Hobson, has been a major donor to Biden’s re-election campaign. Her contributions include $125,000 to the Biden Action Fund, a joint fundraising committee, according to Federal Election Commission records.

In the class — dubbed “Prepare to Be Unprepared” — Poehler shares nine principles of improve including “don’t bail on your partners” and “don’t worry about being cool.” It’s split up into 11 parts, and totals just over an hour of content. Most consider George Lucas one of the all-time great American filmmakers. He’s the creative force behind the Star Wars franchise as well as the Indiana Jones series. And to many fans, he’s a true pioneer behind the genre of blockbuster films. Lucas started making films in the ’60s, going on to produce the cult classic American Graffiti, and in 1977, his life changed forever with the release of his surprise hit Star Wars. While Lucas’ personal life doesn’t make headlines like his professional projects, he met his second wife in a surprising way.

This story about the best film schools in the U.S. first appeared in the College Issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Before diving into this list — TheWrap’s seventh annual film school rankings — keep one critical caveat in mind: The dream campus for one student can turn out to be an academic nightmare for another. It’s all subjective and to some degree a barrel full of apples and oranges. After all, the best schools for learning how to direct aren’t necessarily the best for learning how to write or produce. Just because a college or university has a high number on these pages doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the right place for you.
That said, there is something of a science to how we put together these rankings. For starters, TheWrap reached out to every school listed and collected data points on everything from class size...

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art announced on Tuesday that the institution, which is now under construction in Los Angeles’s Exposition Park, will open in 2025.
In 2017, Los Angeles won the location sweepstakes over San Francisco for George Lucas’ one-of-a-kind museum, which will house art from films including Lucas’ own “Star Wars,” as well as photography, Renaissance paintings, and ancient Roman mosaics. Sandra Jackson-Dumont, director and CEO of the museum, shared the “significant progress” already made on the five-story, 300,000-square-foot building, which will be surrounded by a park and gardens on its 11-acre campus.

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art said Tuesday that its five-story, 300,000-square foot building and 11-acre campus in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park is now aiming at opening in 2025.
It’s the latest timeline shift for the museum, which first broke ground in March 2018 for a planned 2021 open. Construction and other delays owing to the Covid pandemic forced it in April of last year to move its opening to 2023.
Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson to showcase narrative art via a collection of paintings, illustrations, comic art, photography, film, animation and digital art, the Lucas Museum was designed by Ma Yansong of Mad Architects with Michael Siegel of Stantec as executive architect. Sandra Jackson-Dumont, the museum’s director and CEO, said today that installation has now begun on the more than 1,500 curved fiberglass-reinforced polymer panels to shape the building’s organic, biomorphic surface.

Meghan's candid comment came after Sorkin asked her what it's like "being a boss" at the Archewell Foundation she co-founded with Prince Harry. Antoine Fuqua and Will Smith will move production on their big-budget, runaway slave thriller “Emancipation” out of Georgia in protest over the state’s controversial new voting restrictions.
The announcement continues the economic fallout from Gov. Brian Kemp and the state legislature’s decision to pass new regulations that critics maintain amount to voter suppression, aimed at reducing the turnout of people of color. The new laws were passed in the wake of former President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, and after Georgia voted for a Democrat for president for the first time in decades. The rules shorten the duration of absentee voting, require absentee voters to produce identification, limit the use of drop boxes and make it a crime to hand out free food or water to voters standing in line.

Investor Mellody Hobson has a message for corporate America.
“If it matters, it’s counted,” Hobson told Variety during a keynote conversation held as part of Power of Women: Conversations presented by Lifetime and featured on the latest episode of Variety podcast “Strictly Business.”
“Start counting. Just count. I love the saying that math has no opinion,” said Hobson, who is president and co-ceo of Ariel Investments.
Hobson, former board chair of DreamWorks Animation, is a prominent voice in the financial community on investment strategies, the need for greater financial literacy among the general public and how corporate America needs to reflect the increasingly multicultural nation it serves in order to thrive. Hobson at present serves as a director for Starbucks and JPMorgan Chase.
The process of scrutinizing a company’s track record on diversity and inclusion can’t be engineered to deliver the most rosy optics possible. It has to be an honest accounting.

It’s time for corporate America to face the future, with the help of math and incentives.
Mellody Hobson, co-ceo and president of Ariel Investments, asserts that the most important way for media giants to pursue diversity and inclusion goals is to start by having a benchmark of where they are — and that requires hard data. It also means companies need to be transparent about where they stand today and where they hope to be in the future.
“If it matters, it’s counted,” Hobson said during a keynote held as part of Variety’s two-day Power of Women: Conversations, presented by Lifetime. “Start counting. Just count. I love the saying that math has no opinion.”

The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, currently under construction in Los Angeles’ Exposition Park, has announced its acquisition of the Separate Cinema Archive, the most prominent African American film history repository, which encompasses more than 37,000 rare items, dated from 1904 to 2019.
These include a major selection of original film posters, film stills, publicity material, scripts, lobby cards, an extensive reference library, and more.
Founded by John Duke Kisch in 1972, the impressive collection features work by nearly every major African American film personality, from the early days of cinema to the present. It’s an indispensable resource for the study and contextualization of African American artistic and cultural history.
The name “Separate Cinema” refers to the “race films” that proliferated the first half of the 20th century, featuring all-black casts. Produced outside of the mainstream, they were in effect an analogous industry of black films, that had its own stars and traditions,...

CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg and the Financial Times said they would no longer take part in a much-anticipated Saudi investment conference, the latest media organizations to withdraw from the event following the disappearance of dissident columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
The At&T-owned cable-news outlet and the financial newspaper, owned by Japan’s Nikkei, had been named as media partners of the Future Investment Initiative, along with Bloomberg, Fox Business Network, and Al Aribiya News Channel. The event is scheduled to take place in Riyadh between Oct. 23 and Oct. 25. “CNN has withdrawn its participation in the Saudi Future Investment Initiative Conference,” the network said in a statement.
Others quickly followed. NBCUniversal’s CNBC has pulled out of its media partnership with the conference, a spokesman said. “The Financial Times will not be partnering with the Fii conference in Riyadh while the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi remains unexplained,” said Lionel Barber, the Ft’s editor,...

This year marked a major change for The Weekend, formerly The Weekend With Charlie Rose — most notably, no Charlie Rose. The CBS host has been out of the spotlight since The Washington Post's November 2017 story detailing allegations of his sexual misconduct.
For the Sept. 21 event, Rose abdicated his chair — which in the past had him seated across from the likes of Apple's Tim Cook — for such moderators as Ariel Investments' Mellody Hobson and journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin. The festival, co-hosted by Eric Schmidt and Eli Broad, among others, saw few people bemoaning Rose'...

Washington — Howard Schultz is stepping down as executive chairman of Starbucks, increasing speculation that he will make a run for president in 2020.
Since joining the company in the 1980s, Schultz saw Starbucks grow from 11 outlets to 28,000 stores, along the way changing the expectations of consumers when it comes to coffee consumption.
He also has been noted for his socially conscious approach to the company, and he has long been floated as a prospect for a presidential run. He certainly did not dissuade that talk on Monday. When asked by The New York Times whether he would consider it, he said, “I intend to think about a range of options, and that could include public service. But I’m a long way from making any decisions about the future.”
Schultz will take the title of chairman emeritus on June 26. Myron E. “Mike” Ullman will serve as the new chairman of the...
