Mrs. Robinson you're trying to seduce me
11 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is one that represents the end of the Hays code. Which means bring on the raunchy comedy and sex. I couldn't stop laughing. Poor Mrs. Robinson the crazy lady. I couldn't relate more to Ben (Dustin Hoffman) feeling lost and just trying to find himself. Then when he finally does (he falls in love) it is taking away from him by some jealous crazy lady. There is a lot of great camera work in this movie. Like in the begging when Ben arrives home and everyone wants to see him. You get the feeling that all of these people are in you face and you can feel his frustration. And when he has the wetsuit on and you see his point of view from inside the wetsuit is great too. There are so many great quotes from this movie, as I demonstrated in the summary.

My Girl Katharine does it again
11 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is another that deals with issues that weren't really publicized but were happening. It deals with the issues associated with interracial marriage during a time when it wasn't accepted. And even though is it more socially acceptable today it is still an issue, therefore this movie withstood time and its meaning is still strong. I loved this movie because it was about loving someone no matter what and putting what people think aside. This is something I strongly stand for. If these issues don't appeal to you but you like Spencer Tracey then you should watch this film for that reason because it was his last. And Katherine Hepburn does an amazing job as always.

Scandalous Blvd
11 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was right up my alley with the psychology of it, the feel of insanity. This is a film-noir that caused a stir in the Hollywood world. This was due to it portrayal of Hollywood; not old the actors and actresses but of what goes on behind the scenes. The scandals and things that get swept under the rug. It was a real slap in the face for the many that think of Hollywood as glamorous and ideal. These days it's not that hard to believe that Hollywood is so scandalous because their "dirty laundry" is made public all the time in tabloids and such. I also find it ironic that all Norma wants is to make a comeback and never does, when in real life Gloria Swanson did just that.

I Love Dean
11 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I think that this is James Dean's best movie. The raw emotion of him trying so desperately to receive affection brings tears to me eyes. When he gave his father all of the money that he had earned and his father didn't take it my heart dropped. My favorite part was when he was decorating the room for his fathers birthday and then they were waiting for him to come home and he was so nervous and excited.

I thought it was a nice touch to have the camera swinging with him while he was on the swing in his backyard. And I really like the irony at the end.

Some things I didn't like about the film was Abbra (?) came off as very annoying to me, and I knew right away that that lady was his mother. And some parts were kind of awkward.

TheNaked Kiss
11 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie to be at times a little hard to handle. The issue of sexual abuse really gets to me for personal reasons and I literally almost got sick to my stomach at a couple points. But it was a good movie in the sense that it dealt with an issue that back then was "unheard of". Which for it's time was risky. It wasn't that child abuse back then didn't happen, but it just wasn't really talked about. I think that some parts like the song playing when she finds out what is happening and her talking to the mannequin are a little much. And not to be shallow but they could have and should have picked a better looking prostitute, it would have been more convincing.

Psycho (1960)

Classic
26 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
One of my all time favorite movies. This movie got me into the old black and white films even though its came out after most of the ones I love. This is an American classic. Every one knows it or at least knows the score or the shower seen. It has been copied in so many movies and TV shows. Every time I think of a spooky house I think of the "Psycho's" house on top of the hill. The camera angels used were a major part of the movies uniqueness, it really added drama. And even though the shower scene didn't show the the woman getting stabbed it didn't matter. It was a montage shot (lots of short shots put together) and it added thrill. Then at then end of the scene when you see the blood spinning down the drain and then it spins into her lifeless eye is the BEST.

"Loving her was like shaking hands with the devil"
26 April 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Mildred Pierce was a Film Noir about a Femme Fatale. This movie is a film noir because most of it is shot in the dark and the mood feels dark as well. The power of a mothers love can sometimes turn out in unexpected ways. This movie is about a strong woman who came from nothing and made a name for herself. The only person who holds her past against her is her spoiled daughter. The movie takes a twist Mildred's second husband is found dead. Mildred tries to cover it up so you think it's her for the longest time. And then SURPRISE!!! It had a good twist at the end that was unexpected. I didn't see it coming and I'm usually good at detecting twists. If you like suspense and some what of a thriller this movie is for you.

Notorious
7 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I have only seen Hitchcock's horror films. And I loved them. This moving blew me away. It was so creative and the characters were so perfect. I thought that the part where they kept showing how much wine was left really added suspense. The mother was a good touch too. Every time I would think that everything was going to work out she stirred it back up. I was so into this movie that when Delvin and Alicia were in the basement snooping around in the wine cellar I began to sweat, and when he dropped the bottle I yelled "Oh No!". The whole time I wanted them to be together for good. So the ending made me very happy. And the part about the uranium was like a whole other sub-plot.

King Kong (1933)

A Masterpiece
7 March 2010
A masterpiece of its time. I'm sure King Kong out did anything anyone has ever seen on the big screen during that time period. A "monster" terrorizing the Big Apple. I hold a place in my heart for this movie. And I know it was fiction but I found it very touching that King Kong was so gentle with Ann (Fay Wray). It kind of reminded me of Jane Goodall, the ape lady. This movie is just another reason that wild animals should be left in the wild, but that's way besides the point of this movie. The point is that everyone should watch King Kong. I think it's an important part of American History, and it really raised the bar on movie making. And I think it set the stage for a whole new meaning of special effects.

I was so confused until the end
7 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Rita Hayworth's beauty is like no others I didn't even care what she was saying sometimes. And I could listen to Orson Welles talk all day. His narration through the movie really had a dramatic affect. But as for the movie itself I didn't like it to much. I didn't like the feel of it. I thought that the plot was to confusing until the end where they revealed everything. And I could not stand many of the actors. Every time there was a close up of Grisby it gave me the creeps, which might have been the directors intention but I didn't like it. It was done to many times. I will have his sweaty bugged eyes face in my nightmares I'm sure. And I didn't like Author Bannister, or the Judge, or the people in the courtroom. They annoyed me. The only part I really liked at all was the ending. I think it was well thought out and the fun house really made it interesting.

Stagecoach (1939)

First Western I Ever Liked
7 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I was disappointed when I saw that this was a western. Another cowboys and Indians battle. The only one I ever liked was Misfits and that's because it had Marilyn Monroe in it. It took me awhile to get past the constant flickering black spots and Curley's annoying voice. But after I did I found two very touching love stories, a secret, and a new life being born. I even have to admit that the battle between the passengers of the stagecoach and Geronimo's indians was very intense. I knew all along that Mrs. Mallory was pregnant. But I still don't understand why Dallas was such an outcast. Was it because of where she lived? I also loved the landscape as they were traveling. Even in black and white it was beautiful and really added to the movie.

What a Perfect Couple
1 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First off I love Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell is such a spitfire. All through the movie I really didn't like Cary's character Walter. He was the epitome of egotism. But then way towards the end I could tell that he really did care about Rosalind's character Hildy and was the only one who could handle her. When those two got into it with each other there was no stopping them. And poor Bruce he had no idea what he had gotten himself into with Hildy. And John Qualen who plays Earl William is one odd fellow in this movie. I still don't know if he committed the crime or not, he seems to sweet but then he shot a man to escape. The whole part where he was hiding in the desk was priceless.

Frankenstein (1931)

A Favorite
1 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
"It's alive! It's alive!", sorry I had to. This is one of my most favorite movies of all time. I think this was an almost perfect adaptation of the novel. I do have some questions though. I never understood why they kept him in the dark for the first few days and why didn't he kill Elizabeth when he was in her room. Fritz creeped me out and I can understand why Frankenstein killed him because he was always torturing him. Poor Frankenstein he never had a chance because he had an abnormal brain to begin with. I'm still also unsure of why Frankenstein was the way he was. Was he violent because he had the brain of a criminal? Or was he violent because he was tortured and that's what he learned? This movie is another reason why you should let the dead rest.

Chaotic
1 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This was such a crazy movie. It was touching, hilarious, sometimes sad all in one. The bullocks have to be one of the most chaotic families I've ever seen. I feel so bad for the father and the help. I don't know how they survive. I also love the twists in this movie; my favorite being that Godfrey went to Harvard, and was from a well known wealthy family. I knew something was up but I didn't see that one coming at all. My favorite part of the whole movie was when Godfrey went into Mrs. Bullocks room after her long night of drinking and he made "the little men" go away. And what was up with that Carlo guy? I also loved how Godfrey turned the dump into a fancy restaurant (or was it a hotel?)and hired all of the "forgotten men" and gave them places to stay.

Scarface (1932)

Winner
8 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie never had a dull moment. Paul Muni has done it again, mastered another character with his raw talent and emotion. But this movie had many great actors/actresses. My Favorite character in this movie was Angelo played by Vince Barnatt. He added some comedy to the mob mentality. And my second favorite charter Poppy (Toni's girl)was played by the lovely Karen Morely. Ann Dvorak played Toni Camonte's sister Cesca. Her big gorgeous eyes could draw in any man but not under Toni's watch. And then there is the handsome George Raft who played Guino Rinaldo Toni's partner in crime. My favorite part was when the restaurant was getting shot up by O'Hara's mob (?)and Angelo was on the phone trying to get the name of the person on the phone, all the while being shot at left and right. I also thought the part where the calendar days were shot away towards the begging on the movie was a nice touch.

Watch This Movie!!!
3 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie. I thought it was brilliant. He became what he was trying so hard not to be. The ending where his wife(2nd one)says "But how will you live" and he faded into the darkness and says "I steal", was so perfect. I also like the part where he blows up a bridge to get away from the cops the second time. I liked it because it was ironic how he loved building bridges and here he is destroying one to make a get away. And my heat sank when I found out for sure that they were going to keep him in the chain gang the second time around. I mean I saw it coming but when it was confirmed I really felt for him. And I really hated his first wife for blackmailing him. I thought he was going to make it, be a free man, and then she just messed it all up.

I cannot believe I watched that whole movie
22 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie reminded me of a bad Romeo and Juliet. I didn't hate it but I didn't like it either. I didn't like the way the characters acted, they were to spastic, I don't know if that was the camera or what. And I do like Lillian Gish. I felt bad for the little girl and I'm glad that that the china-man was there to show here some happiness, but I thought that it was creepy that he was in love with a 15 year old girl. I don't know how old he was and it may have been acceptable back then but watching him about to kiss her kind of turned my stomach. I hated when they did close ups of the characters it was either unnecessary or the angle wasn't right. And if the "yellow man" was Chinese why didn't they cast a Chinese man, there was other Chinese men in the film.

Amazing
22 January 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was amazing. I never really watched silent films because I thought I wouldn't like them, but this movie was so good that it didn't matter. It was fast passed and thrilling, very intense. The characters brought this movie to life with their brilliant expressions and body movements, it was raw emotion. And Joan Crawford's beauty illuminates the screen. It was directed by Tod Browning who also directed the moving Freaks which is one of my favorites, and Dracula. I didn't give this movie a 10 because in my eyes nothing is perfect and I didn't give it a nine because it was a somewhat predictable. But all in all this movie is evokes horror without gore and it really draws you in.

P.S. I wasn't sure if my review gave anything away so I checked spoiler alert just to be on the safe side.
