Fire Country has found immense success on Friday nights for CBS.
The firefighting drama stars Max Thieriot from Seal Team (Clay Spenser) and Bates Motel (Dylan Massett). He plays Bode Donovan (Leone).
The network has had lots of success with its NCIS Universe and the trio of FBI shows, so CBS wants to see if a Fire Country spin-off will work.
An upcoming episode of Fire Country is called Alert the Sheriff, and it is a planned backdoor pilot.
If CBS is happy with fan response and how the new characters work within the world of Fire Country, that episode will springboard into a new show called Sheriff Country.
This is called a backdoor pilot, where the characters from a planned show appear first on the primary show. Main characters for NCIS: Los Angeles appeared in a two-episode arc of NCIS, while Chicago P.D. characters first appeared on Chicago Fire for NBC.

From A Memory Called Empire to Star Wars IX, here are all of the space operas, on screen and on the page, we're looking forward to in 2019.
Here at Den of Geek, we love a good space opera: that delightful subgenre of science fiction that combines action, adventure, romance, and melodrama and sets it all in space.
Between now and the end of 2019, fans of space opera have a lot to look forward to. Whether or not you're excited about the December 20, 2019 release of Star Wars Episode IX, the year should be a good one for space opera—especially for novel readers, but with a few films and comics thrown in for good measure.
Here are the space operas (and some stories that are space opera-adjacent) we've already consumed or are most looking forward to consuming at Den of Geek...

Now that the adaptation of James Dashner's "The Scorch Trials" is two-thirds done, and the final installments of "The Hunger Games" and "Divergent" are coming, it's time to think about which young-adult books will translate well to the big screen.
And we're not just going to list the obvious, like name all of John Green's books (although "Looking for Alaska" is already in pre-production). We're going straight to the source - fellow young adult authors, many of whom have their own titles optioned and in the works.
Here are 14 Ya and children's authors' picks for the books they wish would get green lit.
1. Gayle Forman, author of "If I Stay"
"I would love to see Matt de la Peña's 'The Living' turned into a film. It follows a young man, named Shy, who works as a towel boy on a cruise ship that's sunk by a tsunami.

It's the end of the road for Homeland actress Morena Baccarin and Austin Chick, her husband of three and a half years.
According to court documents obtained by People, Baccarin, 36, was recently hit with divorce papers. In the documents, Chick cites irreconcilable differences.
And it appears Baccarin's soon-to-be ex wants more than his freedom – the writer/director is also asking for joint custody of their 20-month-old son, Julius, as well as spousal support and for the actress to foot his legal bills.
In addition to playing Jessica Brody on Homeland, Baccarin has recently booked roles on Gotham and The Flash.

Charlie Lyne's documentary Beyond Clueless harks back to the classic teen movies that shaped the '90s.
Featuring narration from The Craft's Fairuza Balk (and with clips of Robin Tunney, Devon Sawa and co), it made us feel a sudden pang of nostalgia and sent us on our own trip down memory lane to find out where they - and the rest of the '90s teen movie crew - are now.
So, here are 11 stars from some of our favourite '90s teen movies, and what they've gone on to do since:
1. Devon Sawa - Idle Hands (1999)
Dreamy Devon Sawa starred as lazy stoner Anton Tobias - who turns mass murderer after his hand becomes possessed - in the horror comedy Idle Hands.

(Cbr) Morena Baccarin has been cast as Dr. Leslie Thompkins on "Gotham." TV Line reports that Morena Baccarin has joined the cast of "Gotham" as Dr. Leslie Thompkins, the dedicated physician and family friend to the Wayne family. In the pre-Batman series, the character will appear as a doctor working at the newly-opened Arkham Asylum, and finds herself drawn to Detective James Gordon. TV Line describes the "Gotham" version of the character as having "coolness under pressure." Baccarin will join the series as a recurring character in early 2015. Morena Baccarin, who played Jessica Brody, the wife of turned Pow Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) and mother of their two kids on Homeland, has landed a recurring role in Fox’s Gotham, and the people that she will be dealing with may be even crazier than Carrie Mathison. Baccarin will reportedly play Dr. Leslie Thompkins, who begins working at Arkham Asylum and soon finds herself in Jim Gordon’s orbit. Although her role will be recurring throughout Season 1 of Gotham, Baccarin is slated to become a series regular if the show gets picked up for a second season (which, unless its ratings suddenly tank, we all know it will). According to TVLine, “Thompkins is a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of the late Thomas and Martha Wayne. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s…...

Among its other intellectual ambitions, Homeland has always had a fondness for poetry. Last season, Jessica Brody described the family’s garage as “like the wreck of the Hesperus in here” without knowing that the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem she’d referenced was particularly apropos. In the poem, a father ties his daughter to the mast of a ship during a storm, but his attempt to save her from the elements he never should have exposed her to in the first place is a pitiful effort; her body washes up on shore after the storm. It’s a narrative that, although Jessica couldn’t possibly have predicted it at the moment, foretells Dana’s fate at her own father’s hands. Brody made her a target and abandoned her to face the consequences he’d brought to his family. Ultimately, Dana is only able to survive by destroying her own...

Carrie's double play on Javadi is throwing her into some deep, dangerous waters, while Saul finds himself not in the position of power he was expecting. He still has a couple weeks left on his tenure with the CIA, so Carrie's move on Javadi will likely make or break his reign as the organization's head.
At least Quinn is now involved in Carrie and Saul's super secret operation, which is good news for Carrie. Though she is still uneasy around him, it's clear that he has an incredible respect for her. That was obvious from when he went to go see her in the hospital, but the way he responded to Saul after he found out that Carrie's entire CIA burn and time in the mental hospital was...

This week on Showtime’s Homeland, Saul went hunting with some D.C. politicos — only to realize that he is the one in the crosshairs — while Carrie put her undercover mission in jeopardy for the shakiest of reasons.
Blind-sided | So here we are, our first hour into the season armed with full knowledge of what’s going on, and there still is some table setting to be done. Namely, Saul accepts an invitation to go hunting with the president’s chief of staff, thinking it’s the least he can do to court last-minute support before being named full-time director of the CIA.

The best and the brightest in TV came together at the Nokia Theatre this evening (September 22) for the 65th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.

Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul were upset in their respective acting categories, but Breaking Bad won the night’s top prize, taking home its first Emmy for Best Drama. It was an unpredictable night in several major categories: In addition to The Newsroom’s Jeff Daniels taking home the trophy for Best Actor in a Drama and Boardwalk Empire’s Bobby Cannavale winning for Supporting Actor, Veep’s Tony Hale and Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever were surprise winners — Wever was so shocked that she practically ran off the stage without delivering an acceptance speech.

If it's Thursday, it must be time to look at another two major categories in the upcoming 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards here at Zap2it. Last week, we looked at the supporting actor/actress categories for comedy. This week? We'll look at their drama counterparts.
As established last week, we'll look at three things when analyzing each category: Who Will Win, Who Should Win, and What Show Would Benefit Most From Winning. There may be overlap in some cases. Maybe there will be a three-way split. Who knows? Only one way to find out.
Supporting Actor In A Drama
Bobby Cannavale as Gyp Rosetti, "Boardwalk Empire"
Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut, "Breaking Bad"
Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman, "Breaking Bad"
Jim Carter as Mr. Carson, "Downton Abbey"
Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, "Game Of Thrones"
Mandy Patinkin as Saul Berenson, "Homeland"

Now that the TCAs have wrapped up, it’s been a whirlwind of interview writing and recapping from all the coverage I gathered at the event, parceling out as many scoops and spoilers to you as I can in anticipation of the upcoming fall season.
So I’m emptying out my Notebook this week with scoop from a Homeland Emmy nominee, The Originals’ creator and Katie LeClerc on Monday’s summer finale of Switched at Birth. Let's do this!
Homeland As Jessica Brody on the Showtime hit drama, Best Supporting Actress Emmy nominee Morena Baccarin told me not to expect to see her character get much happiness when the new season starts next month: “The end of season two was incredibly intense in the sense that [Jessica] found out her husband is in fact a terrorist and is out there in the world even though we, as the audience know that he’s potentially not guilty.

Perhaps, the fourth time’s a charm.
Or at least that’s what fans of Sofía Vergara’s Gloria on ABC’s “Modern Family” are hoping after the Colombian actress was nominated for her fourth consecutive Emmy on Thursday. Actress Morena Baccarin and comedian Louis C.K. also made the list of nominees for television’s big night.
Vergara is once again competing against her co-star Julie Bowen -- who won in 2011 and 2012 -- for the Emmy for “Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series”; and “Modern Family” will be vying for it’s fourth consecutive win as “Outstanding Comedy Series.”
(Check out the Full List of nominees here)
However, the series is facing fierce competition in the category from Louis C.K.’s “Louie.” The Mexican-American actor is also nominated for “Outstanding Actor In A Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy” for Saturday Night Live.

Maybe, just maybe, Louis C.K. can do it. Bring home the Emmy for Best Comedy Series, that is.
Comedian Louis C.K.’s free form FX show, Louie, got six Emmy nominations with its biggest score in the category for Outstanding Comedy Series. It was also nominated for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor a Comedy Series, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series (Melissa Leo) and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series (Susan E. Morse, A.C.E., Editor – (“Daddy’s Girlfriend Part 2”).
This was the first time any basic cable show has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series and for once stop the domination of network comedies like Modern Family from taking all of the major awards in the comedy categories. Other basic cable comedies like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Psych, and Archer have long been ignored.

Arguably Australia.s busiest executive producer, Robert Lewis Galinsky has added two projects to his roster: Delicate Creatures and Leaving Darkness.
Writer/producer/actress Christine Moffatt of Moffaganza Pictures is developing Delicate Creatures, based on the true story of bareknuckle female boxers in Georgian London who fight for gin and respect and a chance to escape the bottom of the class system. The protagonist falls in love with the scion of an aristocrat who had been betting on her career.
The Us-born, Melbourne-based Galinsky, who made the 2009 horror/thriller Prey, likens Moffatt.s project to .Fight Club meets Million Dollar Baby meets Pride and Prejudice..
Actress /singer Jennifer Carreno is writing the screenplay of Leaving Darkness, which Galinsky describes as a .road-to-ruin-and-back. saga set in Melbourne.

There isn’t much entertainment out there for ladies of the geek persuasion — or to be more accurate, geek ladies and geek gentlemen attracted to other gentlemen. Well, at least there isn’t much marketed directly to us. But we all know the dirty little secret of being a geek lady in a predominately geek man’s world — there are a lot of hot guys in sci-fi movies. Pacific Rim, which opened yesterday, is no exception. Some Spoilers Ahead!
Pacific Rim is in no way a perfect movie. It’s plagued with corny dialogue, underdeveloped characters, and a predictable, anticlimactic ending.

When Homeland returns this fall, we’ll be knee deep in the aftermath of the Season 2 finale. Many characters we had gotten to know through out the show’s run met grisly ends in the last couple episodes leading up to the finale, which concluded with a massive explosion and even more deaths. With so many characters now dead and gone, Homeland needs to replenish its well of talent. So far many great actors have joined for the show’s third season and the latest is Boardwalk Empire actor David Aaron Baker. Unfortunately for him, his character might have the hardest job there could be in a show like this.
According to THR, Baker is guest starring as Dr. Harlan, an assessment shrink who will be meeting with Saul, Carrie and other CIA survivors of last season’s devastating terrorist attack. I say his job will be hard because these...
