We were already prepared for the devastation Taylor Swift’s eleventh album The Tortured Poets Department might yield but no one could have imagined that she had two albums’ worth of material for everyone to sift through. Her latest is mix of Midnights synths and Folklore/Evermore indie-folk, giving insight into the romantic chaos behind one of her biggest career years yet. Here’s what we learned from all 31 new songs.

Even the most casual gamers have at least some familiarity with The Legend of Zelda games. The series was an instant hit from the moment it launched on the Famicom Disk System in 1986, and since then it’s only become more popular thanks to new entries that consistently reinvent the franchise (and even video games as a whole).
With such a lengthy history and more than a dozen mainline entries, there’s no shortage of obscure Zelda trivia out there. But while you might know about the complicated timeline or the terrible CD-i games, these are 15 facts that even the most diehard fans probably never knew about The Legend of Zelda as we look forward to the upcoming release of Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s biggest and longest running franchises. Every Nintendo console has received at least one mainline entry or spinoff, but even though The Legend of Zelda is a household name, its title has caused plenty of confusion over the years.
For those who have never played a Legend of Zelda game, the series’ main character is a young boy named Link. He is, without fail, a mute hero with bottomless pockets and even more bottomless courage. And yet despite being the face of the franchise, every game is named after one Princess Zelda, whose role, particularly in the early games, often boils down to “damsel in distress”. Gamers can only play as Zelda in five titles, all of them spin-offs, yet she always gets top billing since her name is in the title, not Link’s. Why?

A few years ago, Shigeru Miyamoto managed to troll the internet by “revealing” that Link’s full name is “Link Link.” It may have just been a cute nod to the fact that Mario’s name is apparently Mario Mario (a joke established by the infamous 1993 Super Mario movie), but considering that there is so much about Link and the Zelda universe that remains mysterious, fans tend to be invested in anything that Miyamoto says about the franchise.
If you ask me, though, Link’s first name has always been more interesting than his last name. After all, why did Nintendo decided to name Link…well…Link in the first place?
What’s makes that question even more fascinating is that the origins of most other major Nintendo characters’ names are pretty well-known. For instance, Mario was named after an old Nintendo of America landlord, and Donkey Kong’s name...

Break out the Champagne and beads: The Great Gatsby is getting a new adaptation! As first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, A+E Studios and ITV Studios America are partnering on a miniseries adaptation of the classic novel, which just entered the public domain this year. No network is attached to air the miniseries yet, but it promises to be an intriguing take: not only is one of the consulting producers Blake Hazard, a great-granddaughter of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald, but the series also promises to expand the narrow scope of the novel, exploring the Black community of New York in the 1920s and the jazz musical subculture.
Billed in the announcement as "a more diverse, inclusive version of Gatsby that better reflects the America we live in," the new series will need just the right cast to set itself apart - and we've got some ideas already! Keep reading...

A TV adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” is in development at A+E Studios and ITV Studios America, the studios announced Tuesday.
“Elizabeth” screenwriter Michael Hirst is set to adapt the iconic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel for the potential series, which does not yet have a network or platform attached to it.
The project is described as a “single season dramatic event series” that is a “re-imagining” of Fitzgerald’s book: “The Great Gatsby” dramatizes for the first time the full expanse of what made the book an American classic by creating a rich history and exploration of the backstories of its larger than life characters, from Nick Carroway’s life in the Midwest and Jay Gatsby’s humble beginnings to Daisy Buchanan’s spoiled early life. “The Great Gatsby” digs deeply into the hidden lives of these characters through the modern lens of a fractured American dream while capturing the...

They don’t make ’em like this anymore, but then again, they never really did. An unfailingly sincere melodrama that’s as warm and old-fashioned as someone draping their cardigan over a pair of cold shoulders on a cold August night, “Sylvie’s Love” is such a straightforward throwback to the Sirkian “women’s pictures” Hollywood used to churn out for white housewives that it’s difficult to say what’s more delightfully jarring about it: That a dead genre has been given resurrected for the kind of Black period love story that it was never allowed to tell, or that writer-director Eugene Ashe has done so without even the slightest wink of irony.
Superficial comparisons to “La La Land” might be inevitable considering the film’s star-crossed shape and bebop-obsessed male lead (brace for another one of those guys who isn’t sure if he needs to save jazz or...

Brian Oliver’s New Republic Pictures, the company that co-financed and produced “Rocketman,” is developing a female ensemble comedy “Inward Bound.”

“There is a large theatrical market for ensemble comedies, especially one as funny and, yes, as raunchy as ‘Inward Bound,'” Oliver said. “It’s got a great set of roles for talent and we’re eager to see this on the big screen.”
Written by stand-up comedian Stefanie Kahn, the “Inward Bound” script follows a divorced mother’s trip to a “romance rehab” staffed by hunky guides to service more than the women’s camping needs. Brought into New Republic Pictures by head of development John Hilary Shepherd,...

Christina Ricci knows people judge her. She grew up in the public eye as the Goth girl, the alternative chick, the youthful indie darling. For her, those tacit critiques just provide the excuse to execute another hard turn.

Amazon has cancelled Z: The Beginning Of Everything, starring Christina Ricci, after the series had previously been greenlit for a season 2.
The initial renewal was a bit of surprise, given the lack of buzz around the first season of the Zelda Fitzgerald series, but it's even more of a surprise when considering that the Z writers' room had already started meeting for season 2 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a reported $7 million had already been spent on a second season.

There’s a problem with the first season of “Z: The Beginning of Everything” that is reminiscent of, of all the unexpected things in this world, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” (Please, give this a chance.)
“Batman v. Superman” is a notable film for how, scene by scene, it is a movie that actively dislikes its characters — from little touches to big choices, its only source of joy seems to be found in tearing down beloved icons into unrecognizable shells of themselves.
“Z” does not have that problem. In fact, it has the opposite dilemma. The Amazon Prime series, created by Nicole Yorkin and Dawn Prestwich, is just a little bit too in love with its leading lady. And while “Bvsdoj’s” antipathy towards its leads sucked all the joy out of the picture, “Z’s” infatuation with Zelda Fitzgerald detracts from its depiction of one of literature’s most fascinating and complicated women.

Zelda Fitzgerald is a name that has been doing the rounds over the past few weeks – and we’re not just referring to Amazon’s upcoming Jazz Age series, Z: The Beginning Of Everything.
Fitzgerald, a boisterous novelist and socialite of the early 20th century, has graced the screen countless times in the past, both through standalone dramas dedicated to her turbulent life, as well as those films that largely focused on her celebrated other half, F. Scott Fitzgerald. But it seems Hollywood has taken a renewed interest in the Jazz Age icon, now that two, competing period dramas have entered pre-production – one with Scarlett Johansson (The Beautiful and the Damned), the other with Jennifer Lawrence.

You remember Keira Knightley, right? Thin, attractive British girl with those unreal cheekbones? She hasn't been on screen in the Us in over a year and it'll be a little while longer before she shows back up, but the Oscar nominee is quietly putting together some more heavy duty projects, which I've said many times before most actresses her age and with her name recognition probably wouldn't do.
Instead of Thingee Blah Blah 4, she makes Atonement or The Duchess and pushes herself. Kudos.
She has six projects in various stages of production at the moment, one of which is The Beautiful and the Damned, in which she'll play Zelda Sayre, the troubled wife of novelist F. Scott Fitzgerald. Now Pajiba reports that Keira and Matt Damon have been offered starring roles in an adaptation of that same F. Scott Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night.

I still have not seen John Curran's The Painted Veil, but it sounds like his next film, a psychological thriller called Stone, will be far removed from the romantic drama. And to make things interesting, Curran has brought aboard his Painted Veil star Ed Norton and Robert De Niro for the film penned by Angus MacLachlan (Junebug). Variety says the story centers on a correctional officer (De Niro) who is seduced by the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) up for parole. The film won't be going in front of cameras anytime soon, however, as Curran's next film will be more along the lines of The Painted Veil as he will work with Keira Knightley on The Beautiful and the Damned, which concerns the turbulent marriage of alcoholic writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his mercurial wife Zelda Sayre (Knightley), who was schizophrenic. The tempestuous relationship, which unfolded in the...

As I am sure many of you have noticed I have stopped reporting on all of the casting and directing updates that come out of the pages of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Sure, a few of them peak my interest and get posted, but for the most part I believe it comes rather redundant. Every single movie news website/blog does this on a daily basis in a cut and paste format and I was just of the opinion it took up space and made this site no different than any of the others and where is the fun in that? However, that doesn't mean some of the announced projects aren't of interest, it just means they aren't necessarily worthy of their own post, so I have decided to take a stab at simplifying things and hope to be able to do this on a weekly basis as I...

I would've expected Keira Knightley to learn her lesson by now. After Pride & Prejudice, Atonement, Silk, and The Duchess this year, I was hoping she'd stop making such dull period pieces -- apparently not. Knightley has been cast in The Beautiful and the Damned, the next project from filmmaker John Curran. Curran last directed the period film The Painted Veil as well as We Don't Live Here Anymore before that. The Beautiful and the Damned concerns the turbulent marriage of alcoholic writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his schizophrenic wife Zelda Sayre. Something to get excited about? I highly doubt it. The Beautiful and the Damned will begin production in March. The story takes place in the high society of the roaring '20s, which was when Fitzgerald wrote some of his greatest novels, including This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned (for which this movie is named), and The...

John Curran is set to replace Nick Cassavetes as director for Film Department's upcoming period drama "The Beautiful and the Damned."
The film is set during the Roaring '20s and centers on the extravagant lifestyle and turbulent marriage of alcoholic writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda Sayre, a schizophrenic.
Hanna Weg wrote the script for the film, and Keira Knightley is on board to star.
Curran's credits include the decent "The Painted Veil" and "We Don't Live Here Anymore."
As for Fitzgerald, one of his short stories recenely inspired David Fincher's "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Another one of his creations, "The Great Gatsby," will be directed by Baz Luhrmann.
Variety says Cassavetes recently dropped the project but doesn't state the reason.

Though I'd prefer it if she'd spread them out a little more, I have no objection to Keira Knightley buttering her bread by making period dramas. It's what she does best, it's where she looks her best, and her contemporary movies are only so-so.
Keira has another one on the way soon, The Beautiful and the Damned, which is a sort of bio-pic of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayre, with writer Hanna Weg covering the couple's incredibly stormy marriage. It's a good time to make a Scott and Zelda movie, with Benjamin Button in theaters and reports that Baz Luhrmann has just purchased the rights to Fitzgerald's best-known story, The Great Gatsby.
And now, The Beautiful and the Damned has a new director, according to Variety . John Curran , most recently of another period drama, The Painted Veil. We say he's a new director on the project because initially, Nick Cassevetes was attached,...

Keira Knightley will star in The Beautiful And The Damned for director John Curran (The Painted Veil). The film will revolve around acclaimed writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his often turbulent marriage with wife Zelda Sayre, an alleged schizophrenic. Knightley will play Sayre. Of course, Fitzgerald wrote the short-story that The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button was based on. The article doesn't say but I have to assume that Knightley got the role after Leslie Man turned it down. Knightley is...

When Keira Knightley signed on for The Beautiful and the Damned I think she assumed the project already had a director with Nick Cassavetes. Though one can't say what happened -- because we don't know -- Cassavetes fell out some time around Knightley's casting and has finally been replaced.

John Curran has signed on to direct The Beautiful and the Damned, a upcoming period drama that Keira Knightley is attached to star in. Knightley hit the screen in 2008 in The Edge of Love and The Duchess. She next stars in the romantic drama Last Night, opposite Sam Worthington and Eva Mendes. Just when it seemed like Keira Knightley might take a break from period pieces, she signs up for one more. The young gal just can't get enough of them, and at least this time around it isn't a costumed drama full of big hair and big dresses. The Hollywood Reporter posts that Nick Cassavetes has signed on to direct The Beautiful and the Damned, with Knightley in talks for the lead.
Written by Hanna Weg, the film focuses on the love story between F. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda Sayre, which means that Keira would play the doomed lover. So this time around, the corsets will be turned in for flapper dresses. In a time before the proliferation of gossip rags and celebrities, the couple were icons of the roaring twenties. The romance of the union, however, was short-lived, and as their marriage began to fail, both used the material for their own novels.

Keira Knightley is fueling up her DeLorean and going back in time again. The Hollywood Reporter says that Keira will play author Zelda Sayre, better known as the wife of F. Scott Fitzgerald and a tragic 20th century figure.

The couple epitomized the Jazz Age and Scott became one of the era's most popular writers, with The Great Gatbsy and Tender is the Night. For all his talents as a writer, it turns out, he was an even more prolific drinker.

Words are Keira Knightley's new film project, after her portrayal of controversial Duchess of Devonshire in "The Duchess", will be another period piece romance, "The Beautiful and the Damned". According to Hollywood Reporter, the English starlet is encircling the leading lady role as tempestuous Zelda Sayre by involving in a negotiation for the part.
If Knightley indeed took the role of Sayre, this would continue her entanglement with period movies. She has recently starred in "Duchess", which came out on September 19, in World War I drama epic with James McAvoy "Atonement" and in Alessandro Baricco's adapted novel "Silk". Before those, she has also played Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austen's adaptation "Pride and Prejudice".
Having "The Notebook" director Nick Cassavetes attached to helm the project, "Damned" is an adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's second novel of the same name. The story is believed to be revolving around Fitzgerald and his lover Sayre.
