The latter part of William "Wild Bill" Wellman's distinguished career is a little patchy, as much due to studio interference as anything else, but a fair bit of positive attention has focused on Track of the Cat (1954) a sweaty family melodrama about the hunt for a rapacious wildcat in the snowy wilds near Aspen, daringly filmed in color but with almost no actual color (the snow was crucial here). We've been looking at the wrong film. An almost exact opposite of Track of the Cat exists, one which trades that film's showy ambition for a quieter, but equally radical aesthetic. Where Robert Mitchum and his kin snarl at each other in Track of the Cat, in Good-bye, My Lady all is peaceful between old-timer Walter Brennan and his young nephew Brandon DeWilde (the kid from Shane). Where Track of the Cat uses a daring palette and widescreen compositions, Goodbye, My...

Anyone in Brisbane popped in here? From Brisbane Times:
Despite concerns during the week from the staff that nobody would show up, an estimated 200 Whovians lined up around the corner at the 9am opening time.
BBC Worldwide Australia and New Zealand retail manager Rachael Hammond said she had her doubts the Brisbane pop-up store would be a success.
“When I drove up (at 6am) and saw people here I thought ‘this is going to be Ok’, but up until then, when I woke up this morning, I wasn’t sure if people would come,” she said.
“But they never let me down, the Doctor Who fans. They’re such a passionate bunch.” With Doctor Who merchandise available online, Ms Hammond said the pop-up shop was a chance to bring the fans together.
“We encouraged people to dress up – the first 20 people to arrive in costume would receive a small gift – but,...

The Game Group officially went into administration yesterday and with this action came the immediate closure of 277 of its 609 outlet stores across the UK and Ireland. This series of closures will mean 2104 people will be out of a job. Below we have the complete list of the stores in both the UK and Ireland that will no longer be with us, as reported by Retail Week.
This is the full list of stores that will be closing immediately. Dublin and Leeds seemed to be hit particularly hard losing a total of 5 stores each. My own local Game here in Stirling’s Thistle Centre looks to be getting the chop, so it’s a good thing I already headed down there to take advantage of their slashed prices. No doubt some people reading this will be in the same situation. It’ll be sad to see the stores go, especially in smaller towns like Stirling,...

Situated seconds from Covent Garden, it is almost impossible to miss Maxwell’s; if the neon red sign doesn’t grab your attention then the blazing torches outside the entrance surely will. Inside a warm vibrant atmosphere awaits you; rather than taking the root that so many ‘American Restaurants’ take by adorning every wall with a piece of ubiquitous American paraphernalia or photographs of American icons to create a sense that you have been transported to America, Maxwell’s takes a more subtle approach. Dark mahogany, large tables and comfy booths and dimmed lighting are employed to create a cool environment, perfectly suited for all occasions.
However, I was unconvinced by the mural that depicts some of the world’s most recognisable people - Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Regan, Woody Allen and many more – all sat at a table together ala The Last Supper, which dominates a whole wall. The statement...

Who knew that Syracuse was such a hotbed of horror? It seems like every week they're either screening Shock Wave or The Human Centipede 2 or having a zombie night of some kind. Well then, you've got to figure the Orangemen know how to do Halloween…how's this for a double bill, Frankenstein and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (audience participation required).
On Friday, October 28, beginning at 7pm, the Palace Theater at 2384 James Street in Syracuse will be featuring an awesome double-bill. The 1931 classic Frankenstein will open the festivities. This is the first time in over 40 years a 35mm print of James Whale's masterpiece will be shown in Syracuse. That's impressive enough on its own.
However, add in the second film, a digital projection of The Rocky Horror Picture Show with audience participation strongly recommended, and an after party in the lobby, and it sounds like you've got your Halloween all planned out!

Okay, Orangemen, step right up. The Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence is crawling your way. Tom Six's highly anticipated film made its world premiere last week, and now the sickness is spreading…and it's coming your way.
The Palace Theater at 2384 James Street in Syracuse will be hosting a one-night only Human Centipede 2 event on October 18. Doors open at 9pm.
Already banned in the UK, early reviews of Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence verify that director Tom Six has lived up to his promise to make the original film seem like My Little Pony compared to the sequel. And for the ridiculously low ticket price of $7, you can judge that for yourself. No one under 18 will be admitted (Syracuse obviously doesn't buy into the "start 'em young" theory of raising horror fans).
Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence Synopsis:
Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project.
