In 2008, the mastermind genius of Kevin Feige and John Favreau, combined with the unmatchable acting prowess brought forth by Robert Downey Jr. gave birth to one of the most profitable global franchises, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Call it a "Mad Max" rite of passage. Ever since director George Miller's 1979 original introduced the world to the utter absurdity that is post-apocalyptic Australia, the gas-guzzling franchise has all but become a genre unto itself. After five total movies, culminating with this past weekend's "Furiosa," audiences are now well aware of what to expect from these idiosyncratic blockbusters. High-octane action, poignant ruminations on the future of our species, and a motley collection of freaks, weirdos, and badasses are well worth the price of admission alone. As far as series traditions go, however, one deceptively subtle trope returned in full force for "Furiosa."
The "Mad Max" movies have typically brought back many of the same cast members in different roles for the various sequels. For instance, newcomer fans may have been surprised to learn that the man behind the mask of "Fury Road" villain Immortan Joe, Hugh Keays-Byrne, had...

We've heard conflicting reports about Marvel Studios' plans for a fifth solo Thor movie (not exactly surprising after the reception to Love and Thunder), but this latest rumor claims that the movie is indeed officially in development, and is scheduled to film as soon as next year.
According to Daniel Richtman, Thor 5 is "listed as happening on the grid to film Fall 2025." He adds that he's "not sure if it means it will be a post-Secret Wars project, my bet would be yes." Marvel is said to be searching for a writer and director for the project.
Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi took himself out of the running to helm the movie late last year. An earlier rumor claimed that Gareth Edwards was being eyed to take over.
"I saw those rumors, too," Edwards said in an interview shortly after the rumor did the rounds. "I saw it and...

Chris Hemsworth became a household name with the role of Thor the God of Thunder in the MCU. Since 2011, the Aussie powerhouse has been wowing audiences with his charm, talent, and of course, good looks. But his good looks came into question when the actor had to become fat Thor for Avengers: Endgame.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor | Marvel Studios
After the failure of the Avengers in trying to save the world from Thanos, while all the Og Avengers took it hard having lost some of their closest loved ones along with half the universe’s population, it was Hemsworth’s Thor who underwent the most drastic change. From the chiseled abs, Thor had a beer belly after depression hit him hard and knocked him onto the couch, with seemingly no way to get up (or out) of it. And that almost gave the actor some serious injury.

With the God of Thunder having starred in four MCU solo films already, everyone is looking forward to Thor 5. Introduced in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor (2011), Chris Hemsworth’s character became the first hero in the MCU timeline to play the lead in four solo films, the last release being 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Thus, the rumors swirling around this forthcoming installment have us both excited and anxious about what’s to come.
According to Marvel Updates, the upcoming film will follow Thor’s efforts to prevent a war between New Asgard and Omnipotence City. The idea of Thor being caught in the middle of a cosmic showdown between New Asgard and Omnipotence City is enough to make any fan’s heart race. We all know that Thor is no stranger to conflict, but this time, the stakes seem higher than ever.

Marvel hasn't been having the best time of late and the shaky attempt to recapture lightning in a bottle that was "Thor: Love and Thunder" is a good example. Whereas its predecessor, "Thor: Ragnarok," saw star Chris Hemsworth leaning into his comedic sensibilities to great effect, even Hemsworth himself agreed that "Love and Thunder" was just too silly. But when the God of Thunder made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut all the way back in 2011, the opposite was true.
Whereas "Iron Man," the film that changed Hollywood forever by kicking off the massively popular interconnected universe, was led by Robert Downey Jr. and his magnetic charisma, 2011's "Thor" was a darker affair that embraced the character's origins and delivered what was essentially a fantasy adventure with relative unknowns in the lead roles of Thor and Loki. In the late-aughts, Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston did not enjoy the superstar status they do today,...

Thor Star Chris Hemsworth Reveals Whether He And Brother Liam Were Competing For God Of Thunder Role
When Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were cast in Thor, they were largely dismissed as "nobodies." It seems Marvel Studios wanted unknowns, though, as we know of at least a few other names considered for the McU's God of Thunder, including Chris' brother, Liam.
He'd go on to star in The Hunger Games movies, famously dated Miley Cyrus, and is now gearing up to take over from Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the final two seasons of The Witcher.
Chris, now a major movie star with several franchises to his name, has opened up on both his and Liam's attempts to be cast as Thor, revealing that while they both auditioned, they were never going up against each other simultaneously.
Asked if he was worried about Liam landing the role instead of him, the Avengers: Endgame star responded, "No, 'cause I was told I didn't have the part at that point,...

Chris Hemsworth Reveals He Was Getting Frustrated With His MCU Role As He Opens Up On Thor: Love And Thunder’s Failure (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Chris Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the MCU, but his last solo movie, Thor: Love and Thunder, was a disaster and was faced with much criticism. It seems Hemsworth is still not over the film’s bad reception among the audience. He has also revealed being frustrated with his role as the God of Thunder. Keep scrolling for more.
The fourth installment in his solo franchise was released in 2022, bringing back Natalie Portman as Jane Foster; in addition, the MCU movie featured Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher and Russell Crowe as Zeus. Despite the ensemble cast members, the film failed to create the desired magic on screen. It was deemed too silly, and director Taika Waititi was slammed for excessive comic elements in the movie.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a strange time for the franchise. The post-"Avengers: Endgame" era saw Kevin Feige and co. trying to shepherd the concept of the multiverse into our collective consciousness while simultaneously introducing a host of new heroes and somewhat reinventing the MCU for a new generation. Much of it worked well, with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" holding things down on the cinematic front. Meanwhile, "WandaVision" and "Hawkeye" made a good case for the McU's streaming age being a good development — a case that was later ruined by the poorly-reviewed "Secret Invasion."
But for every good entry in Phase 4, there was a "Thor: Love and Thunder" or a "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law" to undermine them. Thankfully, Phase 4 will always remain beloved for introducing us to one of the best arguments for the MCU expanding into the world of streaming television: "Loki.

Taika Waititi has undoubtedly carved a prominent niche for himself within the expansive universe of the MCU, primarily through his directorial contributions to the last two Thor films. Nevertheless, it is widely acknowledged that amidst his creative endeavors, a critical aspect remains unfulfilled.
Waititi, while helming Thor 4, not only perpetuated his directorial prowess but also, regrettably, veered away from a pivotal narrative arc present in the original Marvel Comics.
Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder
At the heart of this divergence lies the absence of the original Gorr storyline, which in the comics intricately interwoven the narratives of three distinct Thors. This deviation starkly contrasts with the source material and subsequently hampers the potential greatness of Thor: Love and Thunder.
Many fervent enthusiasts argue that if Waititi embraced the essence of the original narrative, the cinematic rendition could have soared to unprecedented heights.

Chris Hemsworth Once Thought Marvel Would Fire Him From The Role Of Thor ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Chris Hemsworth might return for a fifth installment in his Thor franchise in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there was a time when he was apprehensive of himself in the character. He thought he might lose his job and get kicked out by Marvel. At that time, Natalie Portman was already an accomplished star in Hollywood, while this 2011 movie was one of Chris’ first big jobs.
Hemsworth is a tall and handsome man who fits the bill perfectly to portray a demigod on screen. After watching him as the God of Thunder in the MCU, his fans are convinced it was one of the best decisions Marvel ever made. However, the first two films did not do so well compared to the other MCU movies. Taika Waititi changed the franchise’s tone with the...

‘Thor: Love & Thunder,’ released in 2022, received criticism for being cringy, particularly in contrast to Taika Waititi’s well-received first Thor film, ‘Ragnarok.’ The movie faced backlash for its excessive and out-of-place humor, especially given the serious themes of Foster’s cancer and the powerful villain Gorr the God Butcher from Marvel Comics.
Considered a failure on many fronts, ‘Love & Thunder’ lacked redeeming qualities. Post-release, Chris Hemsworth took a break from acting due to concerning test results suggesting a higher risk of Alzheimer’s, though he clarified later that the hiatus was to spend more time with his children.
Now, it appears Hemsworth is ready to return for ‘Thor 5,’ engaging in talks with Marvel Studios. However, Taika Waititi won’t be directing the film, citing a busy schedule in a Variety interview. Currently focused on adapting ‘Klara and the Sun,’ Waititi expresses a strong interest in the dystopian sci-fi novel,...

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ was released in 2022, and the movie was described as cringy at best. And while everyone praised Taika’s first Thor, ‘Ragnarok’ ‘Love & Thunder’ was heavily criticized for excessive out-of-place humor, especially when you take into account that one of the prominent themes in the movie was Foster’s cancer and one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Comics Universe, Gorr the God Butcher.
The movie was a failure in every imaginable and conveyable way, having little redeeming qualities. Following the release, Chris Hemsworth also took a break from acting due to troubling test results that showed him having more chances to develop Alzeheimer than the average person, although he later cleared up that his break from acting was due to his desire to spend more time with his children and not the result of his genetic results.

Things have come full circle, as Loki season two has bowed out in style, becoming its own ouroboros back to the events of season one – even boasting the same episode title as its premiere. However, for those paying close attention to the Tom Hiddleston-led series, the ultimate fate of the trickster god was teased even further back.
While the Marvel Cinematic Universe has always been praised for its foreshadowing, often setting up characters and movies years in advance, did anyone really expect that Loki’s season two swansong was predicted all the way back in Marvel’s 2011 outings Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger?
In November 10’s “Glorious Purpose”, we learned that the God of Mischief’s own ‘glorious purpose’ was to take over from He Who Remains, sitting on the throne in the Citadel at the End of Time. It was a popular theory among fans,...

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ marks the latest addition to the ‘Thor’ film series, showcasing Thor’s comeback post-‘Endgame’ alongside a diverse cast of characters, including a well-known comic villain. Despite its anticipation, the movie fell short of expectations due to awkward humor and an underutilized storyline.
However, a standout element emerged with Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor, whose poignant journey battling Gorr the God Butcher took a tragic turn, culminating in her death and entrance into Valhalla. Now, reliable leaker and The Cosmic Circus writer Alex P. hints at Jane’s potential return on X.

‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ is the latest installment in the ‘Thor’ movie series. Despite the movie featuring the grand return of Thor following ‘Endgame’ and a grand cast of characters, including a fairly-known villain from the comics, the movie wasn’t as successful as it was hoped, mostly due to its cringy humor and waste of a potentially magnificent storyline.
Still, one good thing came out of the movie, and that was Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor. As a reminder, Jane is sick with cancer, and in a last-ditch attempt to save her life, she starts wielding Mjolnir but gets more than she bargained for as she goes on on an epic adventure with Thor battling against Gorr the God Butcher, who has beef to settle with pretty much every god in the universe. But, the movie doesn’t have a cheery ending as its overall atmosphere seems to be,...

This article contains spoilers for Loki Season Two.
Forget your Pizza Poppas, and forget your zombie superheroes. Loki season two has already given us the strangest, most unlikely Earth in the multiverse. Yes, the chyron in episode two tells us that Loki and Mobius go to 1977 in the Sacred Timeline. But in that world, a cheesy slasher called Zaniac is a star-studded, big-budget affair. In our world, even a masterpiece like Halloween was greeted with derision by critics of the time.
On the upside, our Earth does have wonderful things like Marvel Comics in the 1980s, when writers like Doug Moench told the kind of weird stories where Thor actually fights the Zaniac. Introduced in Thor #319 (1982), Zaniac was not just a movie monster portrayed by actor Brad Wolfe, but also an evil entity from the Dark Dimension.

Kenneth Branagh knew Natalie Portman was the perfect fit to play “Thor” female lead Jane Foster.
The film’s co-screenwriter Zack Stentz said in “MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios” by Joanna Robinson, Dave Gonzales, and Gavin Edwards that director Branagh was “very taken with” Portman after meeting her.
“He was very taken with her, not in a romantic way, but with her intelligence,” Stentz said of Branagh (as excerpted by Vanity Fair). “Jane is a physicist, and we needed someone who could convey that intelligence. That’s what struck him about her: He said, forgive me, ‘Because the last thing we need is nuclear physicist Denise Richards.'”
Richards portrayed a nuclear physicist in 1999 James Bond film “The World Is Not Enough,” and won a Razzie for her critically panned performance.
Per Portman, she agreed to appear in “Thor” because she hoped Branagh’s take on the Marvel character would be “super weird.

Thanks to "Thor: Love and Thunder" and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, everyone knows about the Thor variant that is Mighty Thor, i.e. when Jane Foster wielded Mjolnir and became a blonde-haired Asgardian warrior herself. But what about Old King Thor, the embittered Thor from a future where the gods are no more in the world of Marvel Comics? Or that time in the comics when the X-Men's Ororo Munroe -- better known as Storm -- gained a magical hammer to go with her weather-based superpowers, transforming her into the Goddess of Thunder?
Of course, no discussion of Marvel Comics' many variations on the God of Thunder would be complete without talking about Simon Walterson, aka. Frog Thor or "Throg." Created in the 1980s by Walter Simonson, Walterson was a human who was turned into a frog upon failing to repay the witch who allowed him to speak to his late wife.

While some original Avengers like Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, Chris Evans’ Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow have bid their farewell to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, some other original members of the team are still there, and there are chances we could see more of them in the future. Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was last seen last year in the ‘She-Hulk’ series, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye a year before in the ‘Hawkeye’ series, and the situation with Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is particularly interesting.
Chris Hemsworth debuted as God of Thunder in the original ‘Thor’ movie in 2011 before he reprised the role in all four ‘Avengers’ movies and three ‘Thor’ sequels. His fourth and currently latest standalone movie, ‘Thor: Love & Thunder,’ was released in 2022, and despite mixed reviews that deemed it inferior to 2017’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ the movie grossed $760 million worldwide. “To those who act as agents of chaos, I say this…please, let me play Padmé again!” Natalie Portman, who played Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, may be down to reprise the role…if only anybody bothered to ask her.
In a new interview with GQ as part of their “Actually Me” video series, Natalie Portman said that returning as Padmé Amidala, the teenage queen of Naboo who later becomes senator, would be something to consider, although no offer has been made. “No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.”
Padmé was of course a key character in the trilogy, which ran from 1999’s The Phantom Menace to 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, with Natalie Portman doing her best to get through those scripts, which were coarse and rough and irritating, to say the least. But the character was actually indirectly...

Legacy has been part of superhero storytelling, almost from the beginning. When one character can no longer maintain their super-moniker, they pass it on to another, creating a chain of heroes with different takes on the same identity. Traditionally, legacy heroes have been more of a DC Comics thing than a Marvel thing, resulting in more Flashes than Thors. But with its ever-expanding live-action universe, the MCU is embracing the legacy concept as new actors take on established names.
We’ve already seen glimpses of this with Jane Foster becoming Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder and Shuri stepping in as Black Panther after the death of her brother T’Challa, as well as potential legacy characters with Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye and Yelena Belova’s White Widow.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — the third and final installment in James Gunn’s spacefaring superhero saga — opens this Friday.
The first film introduced a band of rag-tag rebels, the Guardians, led by Star-Lord, who ended up playing a pivotal role in the Infinity Saga, largely due to Gamora’s ties to Thanos.

Natalie Portman is best known for her iconic movie roles - which include Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars franchise and Jane Foster in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - but at home, the "Thor: Love and Thunder" star is mom to two kids, Aleph Portman-Millepied and Amalia Millepied, both of whom she keeps out of the spotlight.

Several of them were famous prior to their appearances in the MCU, but they still count: Natalie Portman hosted "SNL" prior to playing Jane Foster in the "Thor" movies, Paul Rudd first hosted in 2008, seven years before "Ant-Man," and Samuel L. Jackson first hosted back in 1998. Scarlett Johansson has hosted the show six times (!), and, of course, Robert Downey, Jr. was actually a regular cast member on "SNL" during its notoriously panned 1985-'86 season. That so many Marvel actors hosted "SNL" prior to their superhero shenanigans merely seems to indicate that the casting directors at the MCU are savvy about snagging big stars. Surprisingly, Willem Dafoe -- who was folded into the MCU in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" -- didn't host "SNL" until 2022.
Other MCU actors, however, didn't appear on "SNL" until it was time to promote their movies.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theaters closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studio’s respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that pandemical brink, the motion picture studios have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't afraid to repeat itself. Sometimes, that means we're lucky enough to get legacy characters. That's how we got to see Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) don the mantle of Captain America, how Dr. Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) lifted Mjölnir and transformed into The Mighty Thor, and how Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) survived an accidental gamma-irradiated blood transfusion to become She-Hulk.
Other times, it means that we're stuck watching Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) rehash the same emotional beats in every single project. In fairness, Tony Stark spent most of his MCU tenure doing the same thing, except with guilt instead of grief. Could we provide more examples? Sure, but you've undoubtedly filled in the blanks for yourself, for better or worse.
Plus, we want to get into the reason why you clicked on this article, because no one exemplifies this circuitous mentality better than the McU's next Big Baddie,...

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor Odinson is now the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) superhero with the highest number of solo films after his newest venture, “Thor: Love and Thunder” in 2022. However, if you count all four Avenger movies he has appeared in as well, this mighty God of thunder truly exemplifies hard work!
Thor’s journey has taken him from a brash, exiled heir to an anguished brother and son. The Blip brought about his decline as he plunged into a hermit-like existence of carbs and gaming, before ultimately emerging as a roving cosmic pirate searching for where exactly he belonged in the universe. Through it all, Thor persevered through love gained (and lost), suffering great losses such as losing an eye only to triumphantly save everyone once more; so what lies ahead?
