“Road House 2” at Amazon MGM Studios has tapped Guy Ritchie to direct the follow-up action film that will star Jake Gyllenhaal, IndieWire has confirmed.

The sequel to 2024’s remake was announced way back in May of last year after the film got off to an impressive start of 80 million views in its first eight weeks on Prime Video, but this is the first update we’ve gotten since then.

Ritchie will take over for Doug Liman, who originally vented to IndieWire about his frustration that the film went straight to streaming rather than be released theatrically, which was a fallout of the film originally being greenlit at MGM before it was acquired by Amazon. Liman complained that the rug pull left people without compensation, though it was reported that Liman was offered a higher budget in exchange for making the film for streaming.

The Gossip Girl actress died from complications of diabetes mellitus, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday. Her death was ruled as natural.

The medical examiner’s office told ABC News no autopsy was performed, but toxicology test results provided additional information surrounding her cause of death.

This comes nearly two months after Trachtenberg’s unexpected death at age 39 in February. “It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,” her rep confirmed to THR at the time. “The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.”

According to the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Trachtenberg’s family opted not to have an autopsy performed on the 39-year-old actress. An autopsy is required if foul play is suspected but since none is in this case, the examiner is following the family’s choice.

A NYPD spokesperson said Trachtenberg died at her apartment this morning. After responding to a 911 call at her building, police found her “unconscious and unresponsive.” Trachtenberg was pronounced dead after emergency medical services arrived. A cause of death was not immediately available, but authorities do not believe her death was suspicious.

"Gramma" was thought to be unfilmable due to its reliance on internal monologs and repressed memories, but The Twilight Zone scribe Harlan Ellison proved it could be done. In fact, "Gramma" was also adapted into the 2014 Blumhouse film Mercy, which deepens the story's connection to the Cthulhu mythos. In 2023, the action thriller Mercy was pummeled by critics, getting slapped with a rare and unwanted Rotten Tomatoes score of 0%. However, the film is getting another chance with Netflix subscribers two years after its release.

Per FlixPatrol, Mercy is currently ranked at No. 7 on Netflix's Top 10 chart for feature films, globally. The film was not a big success upon its release in theaters on May 12, 2023. Its reception was especially harsh, given the 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and its audience score is only good by direct comparison, as it's also rather low at 17%. The movie was acknowledged at the 44th Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies), when Jon Voight "won" the award for Worst Actor.

Amazon MGM Studios has landed “American Speed,” a package that will see Tom Holland and Austin Butler star as racecar-driving brothers.

Academy Award-winning producer Charles Roven (“Oppenheimer”) is attached to produce via his Atlas Entertainment banner alongside Rd Whittington and Douglas Banker. Atlas Entertainment’s Ryan Sanak will executive produce.

Dan Wiedenhaupt (“Alpha”) is writing the script, which is based on the true story of the Whittington brothers — three historically famous racecar drivers, two of whom were part of the 1980s Imsa scandal, in which a number of drivers were charged with financing their racing activities with proceeds from drug smuggling, money laundering or tax evasion.

Marco van Belle’s Irish female vampire origin feature Feed has begun shooting in Ireland’s coastal region of County Wexford, which also recently hosted the shoot of Small Things like These, as Metro International Entertainment continues sales at AFM.

The film follows a group of twenty something social media influencers who spend a weekend at a remote contemporary house in an Irish forest, and must fight for their lives when they awaken the world’s original vampire from her slumber. Van Belle previously wrote sci-fi Mercy starring Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, which is currently in post-production.

It gathers an ensemble cast of emerging Irish and UK talent, including Grace Collender (Fréwaka), Clinton Liberty Daisy Jelley, Niamh Hogan, Rhys Mannion and Oskar Smith.

Feed takes its cue from the Irish myth of the Dearg Due, which also inspired Irish writer Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’.

Writer and director Van Belle previously wrote sci-fi Mercy starring Chris Pratt, Rebecca Ferguson, Annabelle Wallis, which is currently in post-production.
