The upcoming Netflix limited series “A Man in Full” has added six new cast members, Variety has learned.
William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Tom Pelphrey, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill, and Chanté Adams have all joined the show opposite previously announced leads Jeff Daniels and Diane Lane. The series is based on the Tom Wolfe novel of the same name. Variety exclusively reported the show had received a straight-to-series order at the streamer in November 2021. It hails from David E. Kelley with Regina King onboard to direct and executive produce.
In the show, Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker (Daniels) faces sudden bankruptcy. Political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.
Harper plays Wes Jordan, the incumbent mayor of Atlanta. Up for reelection, Wes will do whatever it takes to ensure victory over his opponent, who is quickly gaining in the polls.

Quibi is coming back from the dead next week… sort of.
On May 20, Roku will debut the first batch of Roku Originals — a collection of 30 shows originally produced for Quibi, the short-lived mobile entertainment startup led by Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman. Roku paid substantially less than $100 million for the assets of the defunct company, including rights to more than 75 shows overall.
The shows span genres and formats, comprising scripted series, documentaries, alternative and reality programming. Among the first “Roku Originals” coming next week are Kevin Hart’s action series “Die Hart,” Emmy-winning drama “#FreeRayshawn” starring Laurence Fishburne and Jasmine Cephas Jones, the revival of Comedy Central’s “Reno 911!” and “Dummy,” starring Anna Kendrick as a woman who befriends her boyfriend’s sex doll.
The lineup also includes “Chrissy’s Court,” a “Judge Judy”-style show starring Chrissy Teigen; a reboot of MTV’s “Punk’d” hosted by Chance the Rapper...

A raft of 30 original shows developed for — and briefly distributed by — now-defunct streaming startup Quibi are getting new life as Roku Originals, with a premiere date of May 20.
The shows, which include Emmy winner #FreeRayshawn as well as series starring Kevin Hart, Chrissy Teigen, Anna Kendrick, Chance the Rapper and more, will be available on the Roku Channel. (See the full list below.) The remaining titles from the full roster of 75 titles will go live on Roku by the end of 2021.
The free, ad-supported Roku Channel offers 190 live, linear channels and 40,000 movie and TV titles, to viewers beyond Roku’s sizable base of connected devices and smart TVs. Unlike the subscription model of Quibi, the originals will be available for free. Limited advertising will be shown in between the seven- to 10-minute episodes.

Exclusive: Colin Davis, the former comedy chief at shortform service Quibi, has joined Roku.
Davis joins his former non-scripted colleague Brian Tannenbaum at the technology company to work on scripted content for the Roku Channel.
As with Tannenbaum, the priority is for Davis, who was responsible for bringing in shows such as the Reno 911! revival and Cody Heller’s Dummy, to help Roku manage the load of Quibi shows after Roku acquired the library.
Other projects that Davis had a hand in at Quibi were Darren Criss musical series Royalties; Funny or Die’s offbeat workplace comedy Agua Donkeys from MP Cunningham and Jeremy Jackson; and Kevin Hart action-comedy series Die Hart, which had been renewed for a second season before Quibi folded.
Similar to Tannenbaum, Davis spent two years at Quibi.

Western Australia’s screen industry has the potential to triple in size across the next three years, provided it has the supporting infrastructure and crew available, according to Screenwest.
The industry body has identified a “stretch” target of $150 million in production spending for the state from 2021-2024 as part of a new strategic plan for the sector.
‘Leading the Way: A Growing and More Sustainable Wa Screen Industry’ highlights ways to “lead, promote, support and grow” the Wa screen industry to ensure it increases its Australian market-share of inbound production.

Exclusive: Spider-Man franchise’s Tony Revolori is in negotiations for a lead role opposite Ellie Bamber, Cailee Spaeny and Erin Kellyman in Willow, Disney+ and Lucasfilm’s upcoming TV series follow-up to the 1988 fantasy movie, with the film’s star Warwick Davis reprising his title role, I have learned. The new incarnation of Willow comes from Jonathan Kasdan, who wrote the pilot and serves as co-showrunner alongside Wendy Mericle; the original film’s director Ron Howard and writer Bob Dolman; as well as Lucasfilm, which produced the movie. Reps for Disney+ and Lucasfilm declined comment.
The series, which marks Lucasfilm’s first venture into non-Star Wars storytelling since 2015, will take place years after the events of the film. It introduces all-new characters to the enchanted realm of fairy queens and two-headed Eborsisk monsters, and welcomes back its hero Willow Ufgood (Davis).
No additional details about the series’ storyline have been released.

Quibi is looking for a big breakthrough at the Emmys with its bite-sized shows. Of the 33 entries in the Best Short Form Comedy or Drama Series category, 12 are from Quibi, one of which is the 10-part musical comedy “Royalties.”
Directed by Amy Heckerling, the series stars Darren Criss and Kether Donohue as songwriting duo Pierce and Sara, two aspiring artists who work catering jobs to stay afloat while pursuing their passion on the side. When they finally get their first big break, they quickly find themselves navigating the hilarious and sometimes bizarre challenges of stringing together songs for some of the world’s most insane (fictional) artists. These are portrayed by a slew of well-known guest actors, including Sabrina Carpenter, Jennifer Coolidge, Mark Hamill, Julianne Hough, Lil Rel Howery, Jordan Fisher, Bonnie McKee, Jackie Tohn and Rufus Wainwright. Now that first-round Emmy voting is completed, who will be nominated for the season’s best song? RuPaul? Hailee Steinfeld? Darren Criss? Kristin Chenoweth?
That’s right, all four actors are potential nominees in Emmy’s song competition, officially known as Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics … as are such musical personalities as the Weeknd, Sara Bareilles, Brad Paisley and Nick Jonas — along with about 200 other songwriters.
If you’re an Emmy voter in the music branch, how do you decide what song to vote for? Do you pick something you already know and like, or do you investigate some, or all, of the many tunes entered?
There are seven music categories, which encompass more than 300 separate programs, a daunting task for even the most diligent voter. The vast number of shows entered is overwhelming, and no one — especially working professionals, which constitute the bulk of the estimated 600 composers, songwriters and...

With the debut of Quibi, the short form categories at the Emmys may never be the same. The launch of the mobile streaming service hasn’t exactly been smooth: There were early questions about its business plan and whether consumers would want to pay for such content when free platforms including YouTube exist, subscriptions have already been far below expectations and many of those free trial deals are now expiring.
But with Quibi’s sheer volume of content, its submissions for the 72nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards will be vast across three short form genre categories, as well as in the short form actor and actress categories. It’s also making a play for the character voice-over performance and original music and lyrics fields.

When Darren Criss was filming “Hollywood,” he was also shooting his Quibi series “Royalties” and traveling to Las Vegas for a series of concerts he was headlining with Steve Aoki.
“There was, like, a Sprinter van with an editing bay in it that would come to set on ‘Hollywood,’ to where I’d be shooting a scene on ‘Hollywood,’ and then I would go edit music videos in the van for like 20 minutes on my break and then go back to shooting ‘Hollywood,’” Criss, 33, says on Wednesday’s episode of the Variety and iHeart podcast “The Big Ticket” from his home in Los Angeles. “I would be clean-shaven on ‘Hollywood,’ then I would go to the ‘Royalties’ set with a fake beard to match my beard. Then I’m flying to Vegas…to do these shows with Steve Aoki. It was just insane. Again, I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

A year and a half after then-newly independent network Fox Entertainment launched SideCar Content Accelerator with Gail Berman at the helm, Fox is dissolving the production company. Its slate, which includes 17 projects currently in development, will be folded into the network’s scripted programming department.
SideCar Chairperson Berman will return as full-time CEO of her own banner, The Jackal Group, which operated independently from SideCar. She will remain attached to future Fox projects that originated under SideCar as an executive producer.
The shutdown is believed to be a cost-cutting measure by Fox related to the current financial squeeze experienced by the Hollywood studios and networks amid the Covid-19-related production shutdown and the big contraction in the advertising market.
Fully owned by Fox Entertainment, SideCar was created as al content pipeline for the network, developing and producing/co-producing scripted and unscripted shows, primarily for Fox but also for other networks.

Darren Criss has been a very busy guy. The actor and musician stars as aspiring director Raymond Ainsley on Netflix’s “Hollywood,” on which Criss also serves as an executive producer.
