The first trailer for the latest, decidedly modern take on Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale, Victor Frankenstein, came our way yesterday, and now we have the new international poster, putting stars James Mcavoy and Daniel Radcliffe front and centre. While some classic imagery is there, this new vision of the Frankenstein tale focuses more on the relationship between Dr. Frankenstein (McAvoy) and Igor (Radcliffe), and I can’t think of two better actors to bring this new story to life. Released: 25th November (U.S.)/5th December (Irl/U.K.)...

Twentieth Century Fox is gearing up to deliver their take on the story that never gets old Frankenstein initially written by the great Mary Shelley in 1818. Victor Frankenstein as the new film is titled sports a strong cast an accomplished genre writer an excellent director and a new trailer that promises tons of action and kick ass visuals. This one could prove to be extremely impressive. The pillars required to support a striking film are in place and well soon see if the final product is as extraordinary as the first trailer.

We have the first trailers for Victor Frankenstein, a new take on the classic Mary Shelley horror tale. Directed by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) and written by Max Landis (Chronicle), the movie stars James McAvoy as the eponymous mad scientist and Daniel Radcliffe as his famous assistant Igor. You’ll find a lot of similarities between this movie and Guy Ritchie‘s Sherlock Holmes films; the music, the humor, and even the score seems to take from the Ritchie series. It still looks like it could be a lot of fun.
Check out the Us (above) and UK (below) trailers for Victor Frankenstein. The film opens in theaters on November 25th.

Coming from director Paul McGuigan (Push, Sherlock) and screenwriter Max Landis (Chronicle, the upcoming American Ultra), Victor Frankenstein puts a spin on Mary Shelley’s classic horror tale, focusing on the friendship between the titular monster creating scientist (James McAvoy) and his faithful assistant Igor (Daniel Radcliffe), and the toll Victor’s obsession with creating life takes on it. There’s a decidedly modern edge to this new adaption, and I find it quite refreshing that the movie seems to be more about Victor and Igor than the monster. This is a story we have seen time and again, so offering a new spin on familiar elements is incredibly welcome. As is the central pairing, who seem to be having an absolute blast here. Especially with McAvoy relishing every moment as the ultimate mad scientist. Released: 25th November (U.S.)/5th December (Irl/U.K.)...

A surprisingly playful first trailer for Paul McGuigan’s Victor Frankenstein just dropped, and it’s a bit of a doozy. Based loosely on Mary Shelley’s classic novel and written by Max Landis (Chronicle) the film features James McAvoy as the titular Doc, with Daniel Radcliffe filling the boots of his assistant Igor. Check it out below.
That was fun, wasn’t it?
The film looks much lighter and cheesier than I was expecting, but in a totally intentional way. Compared to the po-faced but moronic I, Frankenstein (sorry to bring that up guys), Victor Frankenstein seems totally aware of the concept’s underlying silliness. The trailer indicates Landis may have jettisoned the more horrific elements of Shelley’s novel and replaced them with a bouncy dynamic between the likeable McAvoy and Radcliffe. Sporting the chrome dome look for Bryan Singer’s ongoing X-Men: Apocalypse, James McAvoy today introduced the first official trailer for Victor Frankenstein along with co-star and supernatural partner-in-crime, Daniel Radcliffe.
Adopting a novel twist on Mary Shelley’s classic tale of life and death – and the blurry line between them both – Fox’s new spin on an old legend is to be directed by Paul McGuigan with a script from Chronicle‘s Max Landis. Setting aside a significant chunk of the established lore, Victor Frankenstein will primarily focus on the relationship between McAvoy and Radcliffe’s co-leads as they strive to resuscitate dead animals and creatures and bring them back from the brink. For the flick, McAvoy will play the titular, slightly unhinged visionary, while Radcliffe is on board to portray a revised version of the protégé Igor Strausman, who has been straightened out by our protagonist in every sense of the word.

We’ve seen lots of remakes of Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Dr. Frankenstein over the years, but none quite like Paul McGuigan’s Victor Frankenstein. We got our first look at Comic-Con, and now we have a first trailer.
Starring James McAvoy as the titular doctor, Victor Frankenstein will tell a slightly more gruesome and action-packed version of the story. Daniel Radcliffe plays the doctor’s trusty assistant Igor who has more than a few concerns with re-animating a corpse.
It turns out the monster didn’t exactly want to be brought back from the dead, and it’s understandably pretty angry. Victor and Igor also have suspicious police to contend with, as body parts have been mysteriously going missing throughout town.
Jessica Brown Findlay and Andrew Scott also star in what looks like a pretty crazy take on one of the most well known monster stories of all time.

"We shall create life out of death." The first trailer for Fox's Victor Frankenstein shows a different side to Mary Shelley's famous scientist gone wrong. No longer is he just a madman obsessed with creating the modern Prometheus — now, he's also a surprisingly charming egomaniac and, just maybe, a potential hero. James McAvoy plays Frankenstein, while Daniel Radcliffe transforms the role of Igor from tragic minion to sarcastic sidekick — and, as can be seen in the trailer, unfortunate punching bag for early attempts to create life. ("Being electrocuted, chased by monsters, and hunted by the police?" Igor

This isn't your grandad's Frankenstein, this is Victor Frankenstein, with James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe making a monster come to life to the sound of The Doors in the new trailer for the rebooted horror classic.
McAvoy takes a break from playing the younger Professor X in the ongoing X-Men series, joining forces with fellow franchise veteran Radcliffe to play Victor and Igor respectively.
As you'll have seen from the trailer above, this is a glossy, slick take on Mary Shelley's immortal tale, though of course they can't resist a good "It's Alive!". Fingers crossed for a decent "Yes, master..." from the former Boy Who Lived once the film hits cinemas later this year.

“Victor Frankenstein” will make its lead and his sidekick heroes when 20th Century Fox’s reimagining of the classic Mary Shelley monster tale hits theaters on Nov. 25. The first trailer released Tuesday shows an upgraded Igor (Daniel Radcliffe) — usually portrayed as a monstrous hunchback — now a protégé to the titular mad scientist (“X-Men” star James McAvoy) who helps him bring dead things back to life. They start with a monkey and end with a monster. But from the looks of things, both creations will come back to haunt them, while the police are also on their tail for stealing body parts.

After making a splash at San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, 20th Century Fox released the first Victor Frankenstein trailer. X-Men: Apocalypse.s James McAvoy and a post-Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe star as the monster-making mavens Dr. Frankenstein and Igor in "a new twist on the legend." Watch the footage below. Hopefully by now we all know the story of Mary Shelley.s Frankenstein . a scientist experimenting with the reanimation of corpses brings to life a man, though a monstrous man at that. There have been many spins on the tale since then, including one starring Aaron Eckhart that should stay in the shadows where it belongs, and the Victor Frankenstein trailer shows yet another, more explosive twist. Instead of being a lonely little hunchback, as he.s commonly portrayed, Radcliffe.s Igor is Victor Frankenstein.s contemporary, and the two form a very Sherlock Holmes-y relationship. (The...

There have been a lot of different interpretations of Mary Shelley's classic Frankenstein story. The most recent attempt took a drastic action shift (being more in line with films like Underworld) and put the monster in the middle of a modern war. This new version will bring things back to a period piece, but with some new twists of its own:
I kind of like this trailer, but I'm also not entirely sure how to take it. The actors are amazing and sure to bring the goods, but this trailer feels like it's trying to be more action intensive.

We’ve seen numerous iterations of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein,” but aside from comedies, there’s never really been an essential Frankenstein movie. And certainly many have tried in recent years. Guillermo del Toro has been trying to get a Frankenstein movie made for years; the studio behind “I, Frankenstein” laughably tried to make a modern action version of the story and failed miserably. But try, try again and all that. The latest film stars James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe and it’s called “Victor Frankenstein.” Directed by Paul McGuigan (“Wicker Park”), and written by Max Landis (“Chronicle”), the new adaptation may be a more frankensteined version, pulling from several sources on top of the Shelly 1818 novel, including other movies, to create a new pastiche. The new film is told through the eyes of Igor (Radcliffe), Dr. Frankenstein’s (McAvoy) assistant, and a human guinea pig who has to suffer through various experiments.

"It's alive!" Daniel Radcliffe exclaims of the monster he and James McAvoy have created in "Victor Frankenstein."
"Yes, that's rather obvious," a bloodied McAvoy deadpans. Now how do they get rid of it?
The first trailer for the movie was released today, and the story will be familiar to pretty much everyone: Scientist Victor (McAvoy) and his faithful assistant, Igor (Radcliffe), use human body parts to engineer a live being - to horrific results.
Watch the trailer.
The story's outline doesn't deviate too much from Mary Shelley's classic tale; it's the tone that gets a 21st century update. The trailer has the feel of "Sherlock Holmes" - witty, zany, madcap adventure with a bromance at the heart of it. Certainly, McAvoy and Radcliffe exhibit the same kind of easy chemistry of Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.

While I am not lucky enough this summer to be in Montreal at the always-delightful Fantasia Film Festival, they've been kind enough to reach out to share some of their programming with me, and the first thing I watched once again reaffirms my faith in just how great they are at picking and supporting worthwhile and challenging and entertaining movies. Case in point: "Director's Commentary: Terror Of Frankenstein." There are certain titles that are provocative or that paint a picture or that hit you as particularly poetic or clever, but I'm especially fond of titles that sneak up on you. When I saw "Short Term 12" at SXSW, it was towards the end of the festival, and it was because it won a major narrative award. Before that, I thought it was a shorts program, and since I rarely review shorts out of festivals (simply because of the workload, not...

Who would have thought that an 18th century novel would be the inspiration behind Super Saturday’s most hilarious panel at Comic-Con? Victor Frankenstein, the upcoming tale based on Mary Shelley’s classic novel stars James McAvoy as Dr. Frankenstein and Daniel Radcliffe as his trusty assistant Igor. The pair of actors who look like they got along famously on set brought their sense of humour and sexual innuendo to the Hall H stage.

As one of the most enduring and mythic stories across any medium, the arc of mad-scientist-creates-monster within Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein should be common knowledge. But during his appearance at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, Sherlock director Paul McGuigan touched upon how his adaptation of the dark source material – entitled Victor Frankenstein – differs from all that has come before.
Essentially, rather than letting the animated monstrosity chew the scenery, McGuigan’s interpretation of Shelley’s indelible novel will focus on the science, along with the relationship between Victor and his trusty assistant Igor, who he straightened out in every sense of the word. Those two central personas will be played by James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe, respectively, and in an interview with Collider, the filmmaker talked about using Radcliffe’s character as an audience surrogate.

Screams and cheers are cheap at Comic-Con, but the energy stepped up a notch Saturday evening after fans got their first look at Deadpool.
Not only did the trailer for the irreverent film starring Ryan Reynolds get a standing ovation, but soon the 6,500-person Hall H audience started chanting, "One more time!"
Host Chris Hardwick seemed momentarily flustered, explaining that he doesn't actually have that power. But he asked the A/V gods if it was possible, and soon, the blood-soaked, expletive-laced trailer was playing again.
It seems fitting for a movie 11 years in the making that Reynolds said was only greenlit because of the enthusiasm of the fans. The Marvel antihero, known for his salty language and off-humor, is given an origin story in this film, which comes out Feb. 12.
Perhaps the main event of the Twentieth Century Fox presentation, which also included looks at Fantastic Four, the Maze Runner sequel and Victor Frankenstein,...

As part of its Comic-Con preview issue, EW has debuted a new image from this fall’s Victor Frankenstein, less a straight adaptation of Mary Shelley’s iconic novel and more a mash-up of all the various versions of the Frankenstein legend we’ve seen since.
This time around, James McAvoy plays the good doctor, and Daniel Radcliffe takes on the role of his assistant Igor, who was originally one of the mad scientist’s experiments (Igor didn’t appear in the original novel, but he was made famous by the 1931 Frankenstein, in which he was actually called Fritz). The pair have an odd dynamic that’s alternately balanced, father-son and master-slave.
Says McAvoy:
“Victor’s ego means that at times he thinks he’s superior to Igor. Their relationship is close, loving, abusive, manipulative, and it turns on a dime.”
According to Radcliffe, this version of the Frankenstein story...

Turning a hot-button issue into a dramatic soap opera would be the easy way out. Skipping over the procedures and processes that would be involved, Closer to God goes directly to the creation of a clone and then asks, "What now?" As opposed to the army of movies that imagine clones in the future, writer/director Billy Senese wrestles with the essence of the issue, right here, and right now. Victor Reed (Jeremy Childs) is a scientist who is obsessed with cloning. He's not a "mad" scientist, though his obsessive behavior is certainly reminiscent of Mary Shelley's famed scientist, Dr. Victor Frankenstein. What this modern-day Victor exudes is devotion to his important work and single-minded focus on success. He conducts interviews, but he is not at...

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful Memento Mori TV Show Review. Penny Dreadful: Season 2, Episode 8: Memento Mori contained so many surprises that I am scarcely capable of summing them up in a quick, snappy line that covers them all. In Memento Mori, the longest held secret in the series was revealed: the one concerning Dorian Grey (Reeve Carney) and the painting he allows no one else to see. The most delicious and succulent surprise though was the one Lily (Billie Piper) gave the viewer in this episode. Both reveals, Dorian and Lily’s, increased the scope of Penny Dreadful beyond what had previously been seen as its boundaries. Both were “wow” moments but Lily’s was incredible.
The discovery of Dorian’s secret was inevitable. How it was built up to was not. The story leading up to the painting’s reveal expanded the universe of the series. It also...

The Demimonde will continue to emerge over at Showtime, now that the premium network has picked up its critically acclaimed horror fantasy series Penny Dreadful for a third season, to be comprised of nine episodes.
Surprisingly, the John Logan-created show, which takes place in a Victorian England populated by some of horror literature’s most famed characters, from Victor Frankenstein to Dorian Gray, debuted to lower numbers in its second season premiere. Though the series’ quality has not wavered in the slightest, that has to come as a shock to Showtime, which has aired huge ratings hits like Dexter and Homeland over the past few years.
Still, Penny Dreadful is contending for awards this year, with attention expected to go to Eva Green for her lead performance as the tormented Vanessa Ives. Other cast members including Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Harry Treadaway, Rory Kinnear, Helen McCrory and...

Horror drama Penny Dreadful will be returning for a third season next year.
Sky Atlantic and Showtime have renewed John Logan's critically-acclaimed series, which will shoot on location in Dublin for nine episodes to air in 2016.
The second season has seen Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) and Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) forming a close bond as their group - including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) and Sembene (Danny Sapani) - join forces to beat an evil force.
Sky Atlantic director Zai Bennett said of the series: "Penny Dreadful is the perfect fit for Sky Atlantic; truly international in scale and ambition but with a raft of British talent at its core, and filmed in the Republic of Ireland.
"I'm thrilled to have the series returning to the channel, and to once again be partnering with John Logan and continuing to work with our good friends at Showtime.

Update: The game of release date musical chairs continues. Fighting terrorists is one thing for Gerard Butler's Mike Banning, but Ridley Scott is another matter entirely. With The Martian now invading the debut spot for Olympus Has Fallen sequel London Has Fallen, Gramercy Pictures have sounded a retreat. The action sequel will now open three months later than planned on January 22.This now puts London Has Fallen - in the States at least - in direct competition with The Mechanic: Resurrection. It's Butler Vs. Statham! Who will survive, and what will be left of them?Following the excitement generated by the amazing trailer, Fox has rejigged its release schedule to bring Ridley Scott's The Martian to cinemas two months earlier than previously anticipated. It'll now be out in the States on October 2, switching places with Victor Frankenstein, which has been shunted back to November 25.This now means that...

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful Little Scorpion TV Show Review. Penny Dreadful: Season 2, Episode 7: Little Scorpion was an episode of ‘killer’ surprises. Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) finally found out what he is. Now he is as tormented as some of his companions. Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) is hunted by monsters and Ethan transforms into one during an uncontrollable state. Vanessa Ives previously referred to The Creature as a kindred spirit. How will she refer to Ethan once she knows what’s inside of him? Will he make the connection between himself and Lupus Dei?
The lightning strike was truly electrifying, setting loose feelings that had been pent up for a very long time. It was a dramatic moment but it quickly became dominated by the past. Vanessa knew what letting her sexual feelings loose could produce because of her sexual encounter with Dorian Grey. Many have been rooting for...

Sweet Painting Lady: Ciara McAvoy Resurrects the Art of the Movie Poster
By Alex Simon
“Art is not just a part of my life. It Is my life. It gives me breath. We are eternally entwined.” This is the mantra of Scottish artist Ciara McAvoy, a painter renowned for her stunning oil work, which the Glasgow-born artist has used to create some of the most iconic movie posters in modern times. Inspired by her French grandfather, a pre-ww II portraitist who gained fame at Montmartre, McAvoy’s interest in drawing and painting film-related subjects began after her first viewing of Star Wars as a child.
“I started drawing at eight and painted and sold my first oil, entitled Cops, when I was only twelve years old, so I guess I can say that I was born to be an artist," McAvoy recalled in a 2014 interview with David Bateman of Stv Glasgow.
