Ariana Grande and Jimmy Carr were guests on Alan Carr’s Chatty Man show and played a fun game of Roulette. During the game, Jimmy Carr made a dark joke about Grande that left the Dangerous Woman singer speechless. However, she is known to come up with some sassy clapbacks and her befitting response came a little later in the show, surprising Carr.

Anyone who has seen "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" — and going by the film's impressive box-office numbers, that oughta be most of you out there — knows that Dan Stevens is an absolute delight in it. To be fair, this isn't a huge surprise, as anyone who's been following Stevens' on-screen career knows that the actor is routinely a highlight of everything he appears in, whether he's the lead in something like FX's "Legion" and "GxK" director Adam Wingard's "The Guest" or (and sometimes especially) when he's appearing as a supporting character in films like "Colossal" or this month's "Abigail."
His role of Trapper in "GxK" seems particularly special, however, given that Stevens isn't merely playing a comic relief character. Instead, he's some unique combination of a wonder-filled adventurer, an animal-loving veterinarian, and a laid-back hippie dude. That's just one way of describing Trapper, however — Stevens himself has...

It’s been less than 12 years since Dan Stevens raised a middle finger to the British aristocracy, quitting “Downton Abbey” as the show neared its Emmy-amassing zenith and setting sail for America with his family. As he admits, he had “absolutely no idea” what was going to happen to him.
“There was no roadmap,” the 41-year-old actor explains with frank honestly about a decision that, at the time, was considered by many to be sheer lunacy. “I left ‘Downton’ with a blank slate. It was just, ‘I think I want to do other things.’ But I didn’t know what that looked like.”
To have an idea of what that currently looks like, anyone need just head to their nearest cinema, where Stevens is going head-to-head against himself in two of the biggest studio releases of the season. In what has become something of a calling card for the Brit...

Alan Ritchson is the man of the moment. Success and the spotlight have not come to him overnight. Despite his professional and personal struggles, he never gave up on his dream of becoming a star one day. He might be one of the most in-demand action heroes now but his resilience as an actor is truly commendable.
As a young boy, Ritchson used to perform in school musicals and improv around the cafeteria. His inspiration behind this was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Minds star Jim Carrey. He got the chance to meet his idol once, but things turned out to be a little awry.

Allllllrighty Then! Fact: if you were a kid in the nineties, you grew up idolizing Jim Carrey, and probably had the two Ace Ventura movies memorized. Recently, actor Kurt Russell fondly reminisced about taking his son Wyatt to see Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and it looks like another Hollywood tough guy was also a huge fan as a kid. In a surprisingly deep THR profile, Reacher star Alan Ritchson fondly remembers seeing the film as a kid and found Carrey’s performance loosened him up, as he had a deeply devout, religious home life that tended to be austere.
Calling Carrey his hero, Ritchson remembers, “When Ace Ventura came out [in 1994], I was in sixth grade, and I was enamored. He was so physical, goofy and unafraid. I’d never seen anything like it. I dressed up as Ace Ventura for three Halloweens in a row. I showed up to school...

Plot: When a signal from an uncharted area of Hollow Earth riles up Godzilla, Monarch’s team has to investigate, while Kong discovers a lost society which may give him the home he’s long desired.
Review: This holiday weekend sees the release of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which marks the fifth film in Warners and Legendary’s Monsterverse saga, which, to be sure, has been very hit-and-miss. For every Kong: Skull Island, there’s an entry that leaves us scratching our heads with its shared universe, mostly related to the evil company Monarch, which recently got its own show on Apple TV Plus. Interestingly, this universe has never been tremendously successful with audiences. WB would have likely thrown in the towel were it not that Godzilla Vs Kong was a surprise smash at the box office. It opened almost exactly a year into the pandemic, at a...

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?
Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

"If you went into a movie called 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' and you were doing the stuff I was doing in that movie, would you be expecting while you were doing that movie that it was going to be huge?" Jim Carrey asked this to radio shock-jock Howard Stern in 1994 shortly after the actor's movie opened unexpectedly atop the box office. Stern bluntly responded with "No" but it was, in fact, a monster hit. It was one of three such hits that Carrey would be a part of that year, making it one of arguably the best years that any actor has had — from a commercial standpoint — in history.

Everyone’s favourite Sticky Bandit, Daniel Stern, was the original choice for directing Jim Carrey comedy Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, but the actor has now shared why he turned it down.
Home Alone is a staple Christmas watch in most households, but did you know that one of the actors was the original director for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?
That’s right. Daniel Stern, who played Marv in the first two Home Alone films, has recently revealed in an interview with Comicbook.com that he was in line to direct the Jim Carrey comedy but turned it down. Stern made his feature film directorial debut with 1993’s Rookie Of The Year, but has since only directed TV shows.

No animals were harmed in the making of Luc Besson’s new thriller, Dogman, but plenty of people get mauled, bitten, robbed and attacked, and one guy has his junk put into a serious vice grip, by a pack of extremely well-trained canines.
That being said, the director’s first film since his 2019 femme-driven assasin flick, Anna, is actually one of his least violent movies to date when it comes to bullets and bodies depicted on screen. If there’s violence, it’s predominantly of the domestic and psychological kind, in a story that follows a young man whose childhood traumas transform him into a very unusual sort of superhero: a paralyzed vigilante who dresses in drag, performs incredible lip-syncs of classic European ballads, and rules over a small, fierce army of obedient pups, as if the Joker and Ace Ventura were somehow merged into a single character. Also, he lives in New Jersey.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Have you ever wondered what the world would be like if Jim Carrey‘s filmography was revered like Shakespeare’s catalog? Whether you have or not, Miracle Workers: End Times is giving fans a glimpse at what it would look like with its upcoming episode, “Jim Carrey in the Park.” As star Karan Soni puts it, “In the Big Boom, all art and books and everything were destroyed except for the scripts for Jim Carrey movies. Jim Carey is like their Shakespeare, and there’s a Jim Carrey festival where you put up different Jim Carrey movies as plays.” At this year’s festival, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective was selected. (Credit: TBS) The coveted lead role goes to Freya, who enthusiastically wins over Morris (Steve Buscemi). “Freya is taking on Jim Carrey’s role as Ace Ventura, and that was really scary but then really fun to take on,...

After Jim Carrey became a breakout star on the sketch show In Living Color, he had a string of huge theatrical hits in the mid-’90s, including Ace Ventura, Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. America clearly loved watching Carrey in comedies, but director Peter Weir saw something more in his performances. And it was Weir’s instinct that led to Carrey’s dramatic breakthrough, The Truman Show. The movie became a huge hit, and Carrey’s performance won him both critical acclaim and a Golden Globe award. When the film originally opened, Weir talked us through his thought process in choosing Carrey for the role. “The Cable Guy is Not a horror movie,” you think to yourself while considering verbally punching me in the throat in the comments section below. You’re correct. But also, imagine this: If an unhinged, uber manipulative, obsessive, attention deprived stranger, with deep seeded mother abandonment issues, that you mistakenly let into your home and life began stalking you; turned your friends, family and girlfriend against you; had you arrested for crimes you didn’t commit; set up hidden cameras in your apartment; had you fired from your job; talked dirty to your mother; stalked and assaulted your ex’s new boyfriend in a men’s bathroom at a public restaurant and eventually kidnapped your ex with a stapler (exhale) all in the matter of a few days…
Wouldn’t that be… horrific?

Crime-based TV shows and movies provide powerful entertainment. But most of them fail to present a true-to-life depiction of how forensic investigators work. According to a former homicide detective, Breaking Bad, CSI, Zodiac, Sherlock, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective all manage to botch significant details about crime scenes.
The forensic details ‘Ace Ventura’ scriptwriters got wrong
In a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, retired homicide detective Rod Demery revealed several times writers stretched the truth when creating crime scenes for dramatic effect. The former Shreveport, Louisiana gumshoe started by explaining the errors in a clip from the 1994 Jim Carrey comedic romp, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
In the clip, Ventura shows up uninvited to a crowded crime scene. Noting that real crime scenes are carefully controlled spaces, a surprise visitor would never be allowed due to the possibility of contamination. When visitors are allowed, explained Demery, a police officer typically screens them.

In the ‘80s, probably more movies than you realize became animated series. Sure, The Real Ghostbusters and Disney’s spinoff series were prolific, but did you know even Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber, Beetlejuice, Bill and Ted, The Karate Kid and Back to the Future had cartoons? Those all make sense as they were family friendly films. But even some R-rated movies spawned kiddie cartoons.

The Robocop live-action films would eventually go PG-13 and include a child character in Robocop 3. But, there’s no mistaking the first two Robocops are not for kids. Still, the idea of a robot police officer could be kid-friendly, if you stripped it of the ultra-violence, profanity, corporate satire and Jesus metaphor.

Actor Jim Carrey shot to mega-stardom after starring in the 1994 feature Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. The comedian once claimed he used the same method to get into character for the film as Anthony Hopkins did for Hannibal Lecter. Although the two characters couldn’t be any more different.

Carrey was largely responsible for translating his Ace Ventura character to the big screen, perhaps even more so than the film’s script. Rick Moranis was originally supposed to play the wacky detective before it ended up in Carrey’s hands.
Carrey eventually decided to put his own creative spin on the character, which was so unexpected it even surprised his co-stars. Carrey’s Pet Detective co-star, Courtney Cox, recalled being caught off guard at the unexpected turn for the comedian’s character.

If you've been patiently waiting for Season 3 of romance/societal status drama Bridgerton well, in the words of Ace Ventura, "just wait longer!" Centered on Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.
India Amarteifio is Young Queen Charlotte, opposite Corey Mylchreest, who plays Young King George and Arsema Thomas as Young Lady Danbury. Actor and comedian Jim Carrey played a very small yet significant role in Charlie Cox becoming the Marvel star many know him as. Because if it wasn’t for Carrey and his work, Cox might not be in the film industry today.
Charlie Cox once shared he was worse-off after his breakthrough role in ‘Stardust’ Charlie Cox | Jesse Grant/Getty Images
Cox paid a lot of dues to end up in the position he’s currently in now. The Daredevil star’s road to superstardom wasn’t the easiest. He enrolled in the Bristol Old Vic Theater School in England when he was 19 years old, officially embarking on a career in acting. From there, Cox auditioned and appeared in several theater plays, television shows and feature films to build up his profile and filmography.
His hard work would eventually lead to the movie Stardust, which was one of Cox’s biggest roles back then.

Earlier this year, there was a flurry of news about Ace Ventura 3. Word was that Morgan Creek Productions were just waiting for Jim Carrey to sign off on the project to begin pre-production. Since then, though, we’ve heard nothing. That may be down to the unexpected success of Sonic the Hedgehog, which has led to talk of sequels and spinoffs, and, of course, Covid-19, which threw a million monkey wrenches into the global movie machinery. But once again, there’s some light on the horizon.
Famed leaker Daniel Richtman has said that a new Ace Ventura movie is still in development, though didn’t provide any further details. Carrey may have even hinted at this in a recent SNL sketch as while playing Joe Biden he brought back Ace’s “Loser!” catchphrase to wild applause. Does he know something we don’t?
Perhaps, but what might a modern Ace Ventura look like?...

There are a lot of new films coming to the McU over the next few years and that means a whole new lineup of evildoers will ultimately make the jump from the comics to the big screen. Marvel will undoubtedly be looking to tap some of the industry’s most talented individuals to bring their new villains to life and one name the studio is reportedly interested in is Sonic the Hedgehog star Jim Carrey.
Carrey has been on a bit of a comeback streak lately and fans couldn’t be happier about it. His Showtime series Kidding continues to get decent reviews and his performance in Sonic the Hedgehog was very reminiscent of his days in Ace Ventura and The Mask. That part must have helped him get back in the mindset of the green-faced antihero as well, as he’ll be reprising his role from the 1994 film for the upcoming Space Jam 2.

Canadian comedian Jim Carrey has compiled a wildly varied filmography during a career that has spanned nearly four decades, from mid-1980s comedies like Once Bitten and Peggy Sue Got Married to his breakout role as pet detective Ace Ventura in a pair of mid-1990s comedies to more dramatic parts in mid-2000s films like The Number 23 and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
He’s played comic book characters Edward “The Riddler” Nygma, Stanley “The Mask” Ipkiss, and Sal “Colonel Stars & Stripes” Bertolinni, and animated characters Ebenezer Scrooge and Horton the Elephant. Carrey has also played real-life personalities twice, portraying performance artist Andy Kaufman in 1999’s Man on the Moon, for which he won his second Golden Globe Award, and con artist Steven Jay Russell in 2009’s I Love You Phillip Morris, for which he did not, and now he appears to be in talks to take...

If nothing else, the run-up to the Valentine’s Day release of Jeff Fowler’s Sonic the Hedgehog film is a demonstration of the power of fan reaction, which in this case caused the movie’s release date to get pushed back by more than three months and inspired Paramount Pictures to invest an additional $5 million in digital touchups to the poorly-received character design of its eponymous hero.
While promoting the adventure comedy, in which he plays the villainous inventor Dr. Ivo Robotnik, the eccentric and occasionally controversial Jim Carrey was asked which of the movies from his wildly varied filmography he believed would be a prime candidate to be remade in a contemporary context. We’ve already reported that several studios are interested in producing a third Ace Ventura story and that Emmy-winning producer Mike Richardson has “some ideas” for a potential Mask spinoff that hopefully ignores the abysmal 2005 standalone sequel.

Jim Carrey has been chatting about the possibility of doing a sequel to The Mask
Jim Carrey is not exactly a stranger to sequels, although they don't seem to excite the actor as much as a brand-new project. Carrey famously returned to his breakout role as pet detective Ace Ventura a year after the original film for its follow up, When Nature Calls, in 1997, and was even coaxed back for a belated sequel to Dumb & Dumber in 2014, but could a sequel to The Mask ever be on the cards? Carrey isn't ruling it out.
In a new interview with Comicbook to promote his upcoming turn as Dr. Robotnik/Dr. Eggman in next month's Sonic the Hedgehog live-action movie, Carrey was asked to mull the kind of series of (potentially unfortunate) events that would lure him back to the colorful world of The Mask.

We learned yesterday that Morgan Creek Productions and Warner Bros. are apparently in the early stages of development on Ace Ventura 3. Not only that, but the same sources that told us that Bill Murray was returning for Ghostbusters 3 and that a Scream reboot was in development, both of which we now know to be true, say that Jim Carrey is reportedly interested in reprising his breakout role.
Of course, the project is still only in its infancy and Carrey isn’t locked in just yet, but we’ve now received an update on the film, with our sources giving us a brief overview of the plot. At least, as it stands at the moment. Things can always change as the movie continues to take shape, but right now, it’ll apparently see Ace being called out of retirement to save a rare lion.

Jim Carrey cemented his status as a comedy icon with some unforgettable roles in the ’90s. One of the most memorable ones was as pet detective Ace Ventura, whom Carrey played in the original movie featuring the character and its successful sequel. And now, according to sources close to Wgtc – the same ones who told us Bill Murray was returning for Ghostbusters 3 and that a Scream reboot was in development, both of which have since been confirmed – the actor may be reprising the titular role for Ace Ventura 3.
Morgan Creek Productions produced and released the first two films in collaboration with Warner Bros. and the same production houses are said to be discussing the possibility of doing a second sequel, while Carrey himself has reportedly expressed interest in reprising the character for a third time. That being said, the actor has always shown a reluctance to portray the same roles...

In the days before the dominance of Marvel, 1994’s The Mask was one of the hottest comic book adaptations of the decade. Part of a hat-trick of movies that year that put star Jim Carrey on the map – the others were Ace Ventura and Dumb and Dumber – the film earned a seriously impressive $351 million at the box office. Now, with superhero flicks the name of the game, it’s possible that the franchise could be relaunched in an exciting way.
We Got This Covered has heard that Warner Bros. is interested in resurrecting the Dark Horse Comics hero for a new big screen outing. What’s more, our sources – the same ones who told us that Bill Murray is returning in Ghostbusters 3 and that another Scream movie is in the works, both of which ended up being right – say that their first choice is to get Carrey back to play Stanley Ipkiss,...

Everyone knows gay entertainment fiends love a character actress, and it turns out the feeling is mutual. Molly Shannon earned an Independent Spirit Award for playing the dying mother to a gay son in “Other People,” longtime Lgbt activist Kathy Najimy graced the “BearCity” trilogy with her presence, and now Patricia Richardson is following suit. The former “Home Improvement” star is lending her talents to “Cubby,” a quirky coming-of-age comedy about a gay man whose best friend is the 6-year-old boy he nannies.
“Cubby” boasts David France (“How to Survive a Plague”) and Henry van Ameringen (“Love Is Strange”) as executive producers, and premieres at Outfest Los Angeles this weekend. IndieWire debuts the exclusive trailer below.
An official synopsis reads: “Mark, a misanthropic 26-year-old gay man, had been living in his mother’s garage in Indiana and working on his sexually explicit — and Bdsm-themed — artwork. After moving to New York,...

Jeff Daniels is celebrated for his dramatic performances as a Western outlaw in Godless, a counter-terrorism expert in The Looming Tower, a brazen news anchor in The Newsroom, and currently as lawyer Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird on Broadway. But sometimes, Daniels just wants a laugh.

Bleecker Street has debuted the first official trailer for an indie drama titled Brian Banks, the latest from director Tom Shadyac, his first feature since making Evan Almighty in 2007. Breaking: Spyglass Media Group has entered into a first look deal with Warner Bros. The studio will also become a strategic investor.
Spyglass is run by chairman/CEO Gary Barber, the former MGM chairman who relaunched the company he formed with Roger Birnbaum in 1998 when he made a deal with Lantern Entertainment Co-Presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic that brought the assets from The Weinstein Company acquired by Lantern through Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Those assets will give Barber a leg up in launching the company.
Barber has a 30 year history with Warner Bros, going back to when he ran Morgan Creek for Jim Robinson and the studio distributed Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Ace Ventura and the Spyglass titles Four Christmases and Invictus. When he ran MGM, the studios teamed on The Hobbit and Creed franchises and Me Before You.

Cannibal Corpse frontman George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher had already shot down the possibility of an encore, playfully roasting the crowd in the process. But still, you knew what was coming. As a rule, the band — one of the biggest and most beloved in death metal — will not leave a stage without playing its signature anthem, “Hammer Smashed Face.” And at New York’s PlayStation Theater on Thursday, they did not disappoint.
The band expertly bashed through the 1992 song, whose thudding stop-time intro and seething speed bursts — not to mention Cannibal Corpse...

Before he found fame, Jim Carrey had a number of idols, including Dick Van Dyke, Jimmy Stewart, and The Honeymooners’ Jackie Gleason and Art Carney. But his greatest role model was his late father, musician and accountant Percy Carrey. "He was an amazing, incredible character," Jim, 56, said. "I'm always drawing on my father to play characters. He was the kind of guy who if you talked to him for five minutes, you felt like you knew him for 50 years." When Jim was starting out as a stand-up comic in Canada, Percy helped him develop an act and drove him to his debut gig in Toronto. In a way, he may have been living out his father’s dream. "I would watch him hold court in the living room," Jim recalled. "People invariably left holding their bellies and going, 'Percy, you missed your calling.'" (Photo Credit: Getty Images) Percy died...

I have learned that Syfy is developing Nightbreed, a TV series based on Clive Barker’s short-story collection Cabal, which the prominent horror writer and visual artist previously adapted as the 1990 movie Nightbreed.
The project hails from Barker, writer Josh Stolberg, Morgan Creek Entertainment, whose feature division produced the Nightbreed movie, and Universal Cable Prods.
Written by Stolberg, Nightbreed explores race relations in America, only the races are Humans and Monsters. It follows a group of underground half-human/half-monsters seeking to find a new refuge and home after their original hiding place is destroyed. Leading these efforts is a recently turned reluctant hero who not only is adjusting to his new supernatural status but also is dealing with the grief and mystery surrounding the death of his fiancée. Will this group band together despite being hunted and persecuted by humans who find their “otherness” to be frightening?...

If you weren’t completely sold on Solo: A Star Wars Story, like a large portion of the paying public, perhaps a glimpse of what might have been will be enough to whet your appetite.
To the film’s detriment, it’s been common knowledge how many changes Han’s solo outing underwent before it made it to the big screen. From directors Lord and Miller being swapped with Ron Howard, to Michael K. Williams’ big bad being replaced by Paul Bettany to the titular hero himself being made less Ace Ventura-esque, a lot of alterations were made behind the scenes on Solo‘s path to the big screen.
How far these ideas made it into the production process are unknown at the moment, but they certainly make for some serious speculation. Take the images in the gallery below for example. The first one, for instance, has two owners...

From Men In Black to Free Willy and Jumanji, here's how these '90s movie properties ended up as Saturday morning cartoons.
As wise old Yogurt tells the heroes in Spaceballs, the money is really made in the merchandising of a movie, parodying the revolutionary drive for tie-in products and media that followed George Lucas' savvy handling of Star Wars. Yogurt's prophecy fulfilled itself when the film's writers Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan oversaw a short-lived and underwhelming spin-off, Spaceballs: The Animated Series in 2008.
When the film was originally released in 1987, the writing was already on the wall and one way in which studios could exploit their properties under the banner of an expanded universe was through animated spinoffs aimed at youngsters, with a view to selling toys and cereal based on that property too.
