Rap and hip-hop music have a long legacy of challenging oppressive powers. In upcoming Hulu documentary “Hip-Hop and The White House,” injustices against music creators of color are re-examined within the historical lens of political movements.
The film is written and directed by Sundance alum Jesse Washington, who has documented hip-hop since the 1980s and has been a senior writer at Andscape since it launched in 2014 as The Undefeated. His film credits include “Bearing Witness: A Portrait Of Darnella Frazier” for ESPN+ and “March On Washington: Keepers Of The Dream” for Nat Geo.
Atlanta rapper Jay “Jeezy” Jenkins narrates and executive produces the documentary alongside Washington. Jeezy’s song “My President” came out ahead of President Barack Obama’s historical 2008 election. Additional onscreen interview subjects include Common, Yg, U.S. Representative Maxine Waters, Krs-One, Roxanne Shante, Bun B, Bakari Kitwana, Farai Chideya, Newark Mayor Ras J. “I can assure you as a sports commentator and reporter for years, I’ve never had any reason to talk about the University of Colorado football,” says Stephen A. It must be a daunting task to try to prank pop music’s reigning troll, but Eric Andre sure gave it his best shot. Lil Nas X had quite the visit at The Eric Andre Show, as you can see from a sneak-peek clip of the upcoming Season 6 premiere episode (via Rolling Stone).
Complete with a saucy new hairdo and decór reminiscent of an ’80s porno set, Andre welcomed Lil Nas X with a roar of audience applause and a jingle from the in-house band. The pair hardly had a moment to chat before a strange, screaming presence began bulging out of Andre’s desk like it was the haunted TV screen in Videodrome.
The host eventually got things back on track — that is, until some unidentified substance began misting from his microphone and made him very, very sleepy. A prankster himself, Lil Nas X surely knew what he was getting himself into,...

Global Digital Releasing, the film distribution company that launched in 2017 with the hit Welsh language drama “The Passing,” is changing lanes to focus primarily on documentaries and live television events, TheWrap can report exclusively.
“To be a boutique distributor in today’s overwhelmingly competitive content game has made it even more vital that we consistently evaluate the performance trends of our films. Undoubtedly, we’ve seen a steady uptick in both engagement and revenue streams of our documentaries, well above and beyond our narrative films,” Global Digital Releasing president Joe Dain said in a statement.
“We believe this change in direction will not only benefit documentary filmmakers by giving them a dedicated home in the indie space, but this niche will also help differentiate our label from the competition and allow us to excel in the sector.”

Not many husbands of Housewives franchises make the news unless they are The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Peter Thomas. The serial entrepreneur was often at odds with his ex-wife, Cynthia Bailey’s, co-stars. And his business decisions were often questioned. Now, he’s made headlines again after a restaurant patron sued him for physical assault.

There was an altercation or an attack at Thomas’ Downtown Baltimore Harbor restaurant, Bar One. The Neighborhood Talk reports that Chanel Williams alleges she was in the restaurant with her friends and referenced Thomas as inebriated. Thomas reportedly heard Williams’ remarks in the same restaurant area and became upset about it.

Tammy Rivera is opening up about parenting squabbles with Waka. Pic credit: WEtv
Now that Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera are no longer together, one of their biggest issues is how to continue co-parenting Charlie.
As with most post-divorce parenting cases, these two are stuck in the good cop/bad cop roles, and Tammy is already taking on that bad cop role.
While sitting down for a family dinner, Tammy started to open up about the stresses of trying to keep Charlie in line and how Waka was making that hard on her.
In this exclusive Waka and Tammy: What the Flocka sneak peek, Tammy talks about how Waka is undermining her parenting when Charlie is at his house for the weekend, and she even admits that it probably won’t get better.
In fact, when Tammy put Charlie on punishment, Waka got their daughter a new iPhone, which made her mom pretty unhappy.

Waka Flocka considers dating someone new. Pic credit: WEtv
Now that Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera have split, they’re both free to date — but should they?
While sitting down with his mom, Deb Antney, and several other family members, Waka brought up the idea that he might want to date someone new.
Waka posed it as a question, asking if he should get into another relationship and his mom’s response was everything. Deb, completely blindsided, responded with “What the hell!”
It seems that Waka has been giving his new single life a lot of thought. And while he admits freely that he’s not really ready to date yet, he doesn’t seem to want to wait either.
What he does know though, is that he’s definitely not ready for kids. Waka does want them at some point though but told his mom that he’s not...

This season of Waka & Tammy: What the Flocka has been full of drama as Waka Flocka and Tammy Rivera navigate life apart while still trying to work together as a family.
But the drama doesn’t stop there as Tammy is also dealing with her mom and the perceived “disrespect” she’s been receiving as they do business together.
When her mom pulled her to the side, she told Tammy she wanted to talk about “a little disagreement at the house.” But when her mom told her that she was wrong, Tammy laughed.
And while her mom admitted that her feelings were hurt, Tammy made it clear that the way her mom was talking to people was not acceptable. She even explained that, in business, the things she says to other people can become a problem for her and...

When news broke of the tragic death of Memphis rapper Young Dolph on the afternoon of Nov. 18, it was a sorrowful reminder of the way violence has robbed us of so many hip-hop greats. Dolph, born Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. in Chicago and raised in Memphis, was innately talented. He possessed the kind of laconic Southern swagger that by now is enshrined in hip-hop mythology. A fiercely independent outlaw from the outskirts of the mainstream, able to fire off a chart-topping record nonetheless.

The Chameleon landed his spot in “The Masked Singer” semifinal on May 19 with his outstanding rap of “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell Williams on last week’s quarter-final. Not surprisingly, the judges sang his praises once again. Like us, they’ve been impressed with this towering talent since he first appeared in Week 1 singing “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly.
We’ve had a theory about the real name of the Chameleon since then. To confirm our suspicions, we went back and watched all of his performances to date including: “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7); and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” by Busta Rhymes (Week 8). And we rewatched all of his clues videos too.
After reviewing all the evidence, we are sticking with our original theory.

The Chameleon rapped his way into the quarter-finals of “The Masked Singer” on May 12 with his rollicking version of “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” on the Week 8 episode. He won over the judges on May 5 with his red-hot performance of this song made famous by Busta Rhymes, who had contended on season 4 of the show as the Dragon. While the Dragon was ousted in his first appearance, the Chameleon could go all the way and win season 5.
We’ve been convinced of the real identity of the Chameleon since he made his debut in Week 1 singing “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly. We went back and took another look at that performance as well as his others on the show to date: “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); and “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7). As Season 5 of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” heads toward its conclusion at the end of the month, Variety has the scoop on the guest panelists and show formats for the final three episodes.
On Wednesday, the “Spicy 6” episode saw actor/singer Tyrese Gibson unmasked as the Robopine. When “The Masked Singer” returns next week on May 12, the quarter finals will feature comedian Rob Riggle (“Holey Moley”) as a guest panelist, alongside regular panelists Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg and Robin Thicke.
The following week, on May 19, the semi-finals will feature guest panelist Darius Rucker — that’s right, the Hootie and the Blowfish singer will join in on the guessing game. Also in that episode, the show’s mysterious “Cluedle-Doo” will be revealed.

Unlike a real-life chameleon, the one performing on “The Masked Singer” has never changed his look or, for that matter, his stellar voice. This towering talent remains the frontrunner to win season 5 of this reality competition series. Expect him to shine once again on the May 5 episode, “The Spicy 6 – The Competition Heats Up!”
We’ve been wondering for weeks who is hidden inside this cumbersome costume. So we went back and watched his four performances to date: “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly (Week 1), “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg (Week 4); “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez (Week 5); and “Regulate” by Warren G featuring Nate Dogg (Week 7). And we took another look at his clues video packages.
Like us, the four judges are fans of the Chameleon. While they are right to be so, they are wrong with their guesses that he is G-Eazy, Machine Gun Kelly, Kyrie Irving or Waka Flocka Flame.

“The Masked Singer” season 5 is coming off a double elimination on April 21 that saw two celebrities — Crab (Bobby Brown) and Seashell (Tamera Mowry)– sent home. That leaves just six contenders for the Golden Mask. The Super 6 will be featured in the special sing-along episode on April 28 before the competition resumes on May 6.

“The Masked Singer” got more than it bargained for when special guest judge Rita Wilson joined the panel for Wednesday’s Super 8 episode. Following the Chameleon’s hip hop performance of “Regulate” by Warren G feat. Nat Dogg, Rita shocked the audience when she declared, “You might have a competitor, Chameleon. You might not know this about me, but I can spit some flow.” The actress/singer/songwriter/producer then broke out into a rap version of Naughty by Nature‘s “Hip Hop Hooray.”

“The Masked Singer” season 5 is only seven episodes in but is about to be down to just six contestants. Two of the Super 8 who perform on the quarter-final, “Super 8 – The Plot Chickens,” on April 21 will be eliminated. We certainly hope that Chameleon is not one of them. He has been one of our favorites ever since he made his debut back on St. Patrick’s Day with his rocking cover of “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly.
The Chameleon landed his spot in this week’s show after he nailed his performance of “Hip Hop” by Dead Prez on April 7. We’ve rewatched those two performances as well as his Week 4 cover of “21 Questions” by 50 Cent featuring Nate Dogg. And we’ve taken another look at all of his clues packages.

The story of hip hop has been told before – a world created by the likes of DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, the Sugarhill Gang and Run-dmc has had its fair share of ink and moving pictures.
Many of the behind the scenes figures such as Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, Def Jam’s Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons and Death Row founder Suge Knight have also been profiled.
However, the story of some of the true power brokers even further in the shadows has never been told. That is the story of Hip Hop Uncovered, a six-part series for FX that launches tonight, Friday, February 12.
Through the lens of five key people – Big U, Deb Antney, Bimmy, Trick Trick and Haitian Jack – the docuseries tells the story of the genre from the streets up, revealing how it shaped culture over the last 40 years.

Vinicius Machado stars as Zach, a determined detective trying to track him and catch him before he kills more. Also starring Anastasia Zorin, Harold Dennis, Micah Fitzgerald, Billy Dec, Waka Flocka Flame, Arianna Lexus, & Kimberly Michelle Vaughn. This looks hyper violent and intensely terrifying, but that could be because there's some intense Edm music in it. This might actually just be so crazy that it might turn out pretty good, but we'll have to see. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Morocco Vaughn's Mollywood, direct from YouTube: "A killer Edm thriller.

More and more Hollywood stars, top musicians, pro athletes, and influential YouTubers are joining the vegan ranks, so the competition for the Hottest Vegan Celebrities of 2018 contest was tougher than ever — but Jaden Smith and the Chloe x Halle sisters have come out on top.
In addition to being an entertainment industry jack-of-all-trades, actor and musician Jaden — who’s newly vegan — reveals that he’s also a whiz in the kitchen. Discussing his favorite meals in an interview with Food & Wine, he said, “I do cook at home because I can make meals for myself really easily, some brown rice, quinoa, beans, maybe some kale, maybe some herb aioli.” And when he’s visiting his famous family, he has plenty of options, too: “Usually, at my parents’ house, there are vegan pancakes,” he added.
Chloe and Halle Bailey went vegan after eating meat-free for a week with their mother, and they’ve never looked back.
