It's been nearly two years since a new episode of Nathan For You hit the airwaves. During that time, host Nathan Fielder was almost completely out of the spotlight, popping up only in bit parts on things like Transparent, Comedy Bang! Bang! and Tour de Pharamacy. That whole time he kept his cult audience completely in the dark on the status of Nathan For You – his hysterical Comedy Central business improvement show – but on September 21st he's finally returning with a special episode where he'll revisit many of the characters...

Chicago – The dry, hangdog demeanor of comedian Demetri Martin is familiar to fans who have watched his Comedy Central show, “Important Things,” experienced his notable stand up routines and read his best-selling books. It seemed a natural to leap into film, so Martin has written, directed and portrays the title character in the new release, “Dean.”
Dean (Demetri Martin) is in a life funk, due to the death of his mother the year before, and the break-up of his engagement shortly thereafter. He plunges into his work as a cartoonist and illustrator, but he can’t shake the recent losses. His father Robert (Kevin Kline) is trying to reach out, but can’t seem to get through to him, until he tells Dean that he is selling the family home. This puts the title character into a tailspin, and even an escape to Los Angeles – and meeting a free spirit...

After briefly appearing on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart as a contributor and then landing his own Comedy Central series, Important Things With Demetri Martin, the comedian is now making his feature film writing and directorial debut with Dean.
The project comes after years of stand-up specials as well as supporting roles in films like Contagion, In a World and Sequoia when Martin, 44, realized he wanted to make his own movie someday. Inspired by the likes of Woody Allen, Mike Nichols and Albert Brooks as well as the experience of writing and selling film scripts, only to see them get shelved by studios, Martin decided to take his film career into his own hands. “I can't wait for someone to give me the opportunity. I'm going to have to write something that I can shoot,” he tells Et.

Move over, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and make room for science’s most scientific new voice: Ted Rimmarniet. He may not have any fancy degrees or published research, he may think Albert Galileo invented gravity, but by the courage of his convictions and the cut of his turtle neck, he may have you doubting — if only for a split second – everything you vaguely remember from your eighth grade science class.

Chicago – 2013 was another great year for Demetri Martin. The dry comedian released a new book, “Point Your Face at This” and co-starred in a well received independent film, “In a World…” Martin made an appearance in Chicago at the Barnes & Noble DePaul Center Loop store in April, and HollywoodChicago.com got the Exclusive Portrait.

Fox has added another comedy series to its roster, ordering a multi-camera show from comedian John Mulaney and producer Lorne Michaels.
Currently called "Mulaney," the show centers on an aspiring comedian (Mulaney), his friends and his boss (Martin Short) at his day job. The show was initially developed for NBC, and Fox picked it up after the Peacock opted not to go forward. NBC sibling Universal Television is producing the show.
"John is one of the sharpest and most skilled next-generation comedic voices out there, who also happens to be surrounded by the best of the best on this new show," Fox Entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly says. "I am personally thrilled to be working with Lorne Michaels again, a friend and show business hero who knows better than anyone how to build a show around talent."

Sorry, fans of animal cuteness. You can’t believe every video on the Internet.
A viral video posted last September that seemed to show a pig rescuing a drowning goat is 100% false. The business makeover genre gets tweaked in Comedy Central’s new series Nathan For You, in which writer Nathan Fielder (Important Things with Demetri Martin) attempts to help reinvigorate small businesses using controversial, often ill-advised methods. In the process, he documents people’s over-the-top reactions — and shows there’s no idea too extreme. (Think “poo” flavored frozen yogurt.)
“My favorite part about helping small businesses is seeing that smile on the owner’s face when I’m done,” Fielder tells EW.com. “I had no idea that most people smile with their lips tightly together and the edges of their mouth lower than the center.

Demetri Martin's a master of one-liners. For a little more than a decade, he's built off that trade, starting with his first big segment of standup on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend," then touring and fulfilling stints on "The Daily Show" and writing for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." You could say now he's a renaissance man of comedy, writing books, launching his short-lived sketch show "Important Things with Demetri Martin," acting in "Contagion" and "Taking Woodstock," penning and selling screenplays and other TV concepts. However, this week, he's circled back into being the quick, clever standup comedian for the moment -- and...

Suburgatory: H. Jon Benjamin to Guest Star in Season 2
Dallas and George might finally be testing the waters of a relationship this season on Suburgatory, but things aren't going to come that easily for the two.
TV Line is reporting that H. Jon Benjamin (Archer, Bob's Burgers) will be guest starring as a life coach named Tabitha, hired by Dallas to help her through her current life transition. Described as "unlicensed" and "unconventional", he'll be toted along by the single mother on her first date with George, which will be the second episode of the upcoming season. There's no indication if the role could be recurring beyond that, though I'm guessing that the success (or lack thereof) of the date might make Dallas reconsider this approach.
It is encouraging, though, that George and Dallas are even getting far enough to acknowledge their feelings and go out on a date.

Exclusive: After almost two years at the helm of Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production, Lauren Corrao is leaving the company, which has a multi-faceted deal with Warner Bros TV Group spanning several divisions. The parting of the ways was a mutual decision — Corrao has opted to move on, and DeGeneres is now looking for a new executive. Corrao joined A Very Good Production in fall 2010 as its first development executive in the company’s buildup into a full-fledged production entity. During her tenure, A Very Good Production landed a pilot order for comedy The Smart One at ABC this past season. Corrao, former Comedy Central president of original programming and development, left the cable network at the end of 2009 to return to producing. When you have a director going by the name ‘Bobcat’, you instantly get the sense that there’s something pretty excellent about the man, and undoubtedly the same can be said for his work.
The first poster for Bobcat Goldthwait’s next film, God Bless America, has landed courtesy of HitFix, and the film has just had its world premiere this weekend at the Toronto Film Festival.
Goldthwait’s last feature, World’s Greatest Dad, is one that I unfortunately missed when it came out a couple of years back, but I have heard great things of it, and great things of Robin Williams in the lead role. ‘Great things’ aren’t necessarily something you often hear of when there’s mention of Robin Williams in new roles these days, so Goldthwait has clearly been doing something right. Exclusive: Fox is finalizing a deal for a presentation order to an animated comedy project from comedian Demetri Martin, Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV. The pickup came shortly after the project, a family workplace comedy set in the California Redwoods, was pitched to the network. The former Daily Show correspondent will write and voice a lead character in the animated comedy, which he will executive produce with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope. Animation is not new territory for Martin, who among other things is an artist. His Comedy Central series Important Things With Demetri Martin regularly featured animated segments as well as him doing whimsical drawings on a flip chart. Martin, repped by CAA and attorney Nancy Rose, had a development deal at CBS last season. This marks the second animated presentation at Fox for Chernin Entertainment. Its first one, Jonah Hill's Allen Gregory, went to series and premieres Oct.

Stalwart scene stealer Paul Rudd is back, and he's taking another shot at a lead role in 'Our Idiot Brother,' TV director Jesse Peretz's ('Important Things With Demetri Martin') indie comedy about a nice-guy farmer (Rudd) who gets arrested for selling marijuana to a uniformed police officer.
The actor hasn't always had the best of luck when asked to carry a flick. His last two tries, James L. Brooks' 'How Do You Know' with Reese Witherspoon and his team-up with Steve Carell, 'Dinner for Schmucks,' both failed to catch on with critics or moviegoers. With 'Idiot,' though, Rudd seems to have found a part that plays right to the low-key likability that's made him a favorite in smaller roles.

Chicago – Reliving the 1980s is what Topher Grace, ironically known for “That ‘70s Show,” set out to do with the story line for his new film, “Take Me Home Tonight.” Comedian Demetri Martin has a supporting role in that film.
Grace developed the original story, about a post-collegiate guy named Matt working in a video store, trying to figure out the next stage of his life. When he encounters a high school crush named Tori (Teresa Palmer), he makes up a scenario where he works for the investment film Goldman Sachs. He then catches up to an actual Goldman Sachs employee, played by Demetri Martin, to back up his story. The rest of the movie is basically about Matt working through the deception.

You gotta love Paul Rudd. The guy can make the most simple straight-laced types hilarious, and is possibly even better when playing guys that are just off the wall. While you're struggling to maintain your New Year's resolutions next month, Paul Rudd will be premiering his new comedy My Idiot Brother at the Sundance Film Festival. From director Jesse Peretz (Important Things With Demetri Martin), the new comedy features Rudd's deadbeat title character as he is passed back and forth between friends and relatives -- played by Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones, Steve Coogan and Adam Scott -- all while rocking a look that can only be described as "The Dude in Summertime." My Idiot Brother will definitely be one of the big-deal premieres at next month's Sundance Film Festival, a comedy from director Jesse Peretz (Important Things With Demetri Martin) starring a huge lineup of talented actors, including Paul Rudd, Zooey Deschanel, Elizabeth Bank, Rashida Jones, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Coogan, Adam Scott, Hugh Dancy and Emily Mortimer. Rudd plays the title character, on a trip visiting his various relatives and presumably getting into plenty of trouble, and while we saw a few set photos of him in costume while they were filming over the summer, none of them really equalled the new official images available at the Sundance press site. You can see them below to check out the normally handsome Rudd in all his bearded, tank-top-wearing, mirrored-shades-sporting glory. With the economy in the tank, Spike TV is developing several comedy projects that find pathos and humor in underachievement.
The network has five new half-hours in the works to bulk up its fledgling scripted slate (along with an equal number of unscripted projects). The new half-hours feature struggling men wanting more out of life -- or to just slack off.

Chicago – Demetri Martin and Sarah Silverman are now back-to-back on Thursday nights on Comedy Central with “Important Things With Demetri Martin” and “The Sarah Silverman Program” and the two incredibly talented comedians make for a perfect fit as both shows have similar strengths and weaknesses.
Television Rating: 3.0/5.0
Why is it that I like Martin and love Silverman and yet I find their shows more “original” or “interesting” than straight-up funny? The fact is that both comedians are more talented than the overall quality of their individual shows. Neither show is anywhere near a waste of time and both season premieres feature moments where their star’s talents shine through, but both are also classic cases of hit-and-miss comedy with a few too many misses to unabashedly recommend.

Demetri Martin is the current reigning king of the palindrome and paraprosdokian, and successor to previous one-liner royalty like Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright. Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis may be the new comedy duo, since they’re following up the upcoming Dinner for Schmucks, with the newly announced film Will, written by Demetri Martin (the lead in Taking Woodstock and Comedy Central show Important Things With Demetri Martin). The Hollywood Reporter reports that the actors have signed on with Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton directing, the people behind Little Miss Sunshine.
The movie is set in a world where people’s lives are written out by heavenly scribes. Rudd’s character one day wakes up to find that his scribe (played by Galifianakis) has stopped writing his life. So Rudd’s character has to work his way through the story without any guidance and “ending up on a journey to fulfill his hidden potential.”

Comedy Central has announced that The Sarah Silverman Program will begin its third season and Important Things with Demetri Martin will begin its second season this coming February. It looks like Sarah Silverman's show made it despite the budget cuts.
Silverman's show was hilarious in its first season. The second season wasn't quite as good. The entire concept around her character gets grating over time (I find the same is true of her stand-up). The conclusion is that Sarah Silverman is best in small doses. Having a character that is so self-absorbed and unrecognizing of her own mistakes only works for characters like Master Shake. Of course if she actually learned a lesson, then the show would be over.
Having not seen any episodes of Demetri Martin's show, I cannot comment. I did enjoy his appearance on Flight of the Conchords (I still hum "Doggy Bounce" sometimes). How...

Chicago – The inaugural sketch in the first season of Comedy Central’s “Important Things With Demetri Martin” takes place on a movie set where an actor knows his lines but can’t summon the proper emotions to make them believable. The character calls his unfaithful girlfriend some nasty names in what is supposed to be a fit of fury, but the words coming out of his mouth are said in a nonchalant, nearly cheery tone. If you didn’t know any better, you’d assume he’s arguing with her over who forgot to pick up the dry cleaning rather than who’s been sleeping with whom.
DVD Rating: 2.5/5.0 Oddly enough, the premise of that fictional bit gets to the heart of what prevents this modestly charming series from being more than merely something to watch when nothing else is on. For all his cleverness and experience working crowds, Martin appears remarkably uncomfortable on camera,...

It’s entirely possible that I’m wrong about this, but hipsterism (that loose offshoot of emo and punk) has always struck me as being about the past. Despite the near constant obsession with deciding what’s new and where the next big thing is coming from; so much of the conversation seems dominated by the combination and recontextualization of things that have already happened (like 60s folk and punk) that the entire movement has never seemed like much more than a long-term national Halloween, where everyone is free to act like whoever they want (so long as that person is Bob Dylan). If any of that is true, then Important Things with Demetri Martin is the logical conclusion of this generation-wide identity crisis. The show contains elements clearly cribbed from any number of older television shows (most notably Mr. Show), with only the biggest hipster ever cleared for national...

When I first previewed Important Things with Demetri Martin, I was hoping it would get good enough ratings to allow Martin to stick around and explore a little bit. I've enjoyed him as a stand-up comedian, both live and on his Comedy Central specials.
Important Things was the perfect vehicle for Martin, showcasing his absurdist deadpan, allowing him to work with some talented friends like John Oliver, Jon Benjamin, David Cross, and Amanda Peet, and even letting him play a musical number or two.

Producer Charlie Siskel has landed two high-profile cable comedy-series gigs.
He has been tapped as executive producer/showrunner on Comedy Central's breakout hit "Important Things With Demetri Martin" and has signed as an executive producer on Showtime's upcoming series starring British comedian Marc Wootton.
On "Important Things," which mixes stand-up comedy, sketches, animation and studio bits, Siskel will executive produce alongside Demetri Martin and Jon Stewart.
He replaces Beth McCarthy-Miller, who ran the show during its first season. The change stems from the production's move from New York to Los Angeles after the Big Apple-based Martin recently relocated to California.
An average of 2.8 million viewers tuned in Feb. 11 for the "Important Things" premiere, making it Comedy Central's most-watched debut since "Chappelle's Show" in 2003.
At Showtime, Siskel will executive produce alongside Wootton on the comedian's untitled series. The half-hour project, which has a six-episode order, will feature Wootton's character-driven...

Comedian Demetri Martin (Comedy Central's "Important Things With Demetri Martin") is joining Brad Pitt in new the Steven Soderbergh film from Columbia Pictures, "Moneyball," an adaptation of Michael Lewis' book.
The film will tell the story of ballplayer-turned-Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane who, despite the low payroll, managed to field a successful team in the field.
Martin will be Paul De Podesta, a Harvard graduate who turned down Wall Street jobs to use his statistical skills to change baseball scouting tactics. His "Earned Run Value" system allowed Beane, who will be played by Pitt, to evaluate players he could hire at low cost.
According to Variety, real-life baseball players are joining the cast. Former Oakland A's David Justice and Scott Hatteberg are playing themselves, while Daryl Strawberry and Lenny Dykstra will be among those seen on camera being interviewed about their experiences with Beane.

Demetri Martin has been cast opposite Brad Pitt in "Moneyball," a pro baseball drama Steven Soderbergh is directing for Columbia.
Steven Zaillian wrote the screenplay, which adapts Michael Lewis' nonfiction book about Oakland A's Gm Billy Beane, who assembled a contending ballclub despite a payroll much lower than other major-league teams.
Martin will play Paul DePodesta, a Harvard graduate who is into stats and probabilities and helps Beane (Pitt) develop his system.
A summer start is being eyed.
Michael De Luca and Rachel Horovitz are producing.
Matt Tolmach, Jonathan Kadin and DeVon Franklin are overseeing for the studio.
Martin, a rising actor and comedian, headlines Comedy Central's "Important Things With Demetri Martin," which sees him wearing actor, writer, composer and executive producer hats.
Last year, he scored a role in Ang Lee's "Taking Woodstock," an ensemble drama starring Liev Schreiber, Emile Hirsch and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Martin is repped by CAA.
