Before Daniel Craig was James Bond, he starred in Layer Cake, a stylish crime drama directed by Matthew Vaughn and based on the novel of the same name by author J.J. Connolly. It’s not a film about a carefully crafted cake with multiple layers and delicious filling. Vaughn’s Layer Cake refers to the layers (or levels) anyone in business goes through while rising to the top of the food chain.
Craig plays an unnamed man in the film known as Xxxx, while Vaughn’s interpretation of the story differs from Connolly’s novel. In the book, Xxxx and his hired gunman wait in a park to kill the off-screen antagonist, Dargon. While in the garden, they shoot an American tourist, mistaking him for Dragon. Initially, the movie would have done the same, but Sony Pictures was uncomfortable with killing an American and asked for the scene to be changed.

The episode of Revisited covering Crimson Peak was Written by Emilie Black, Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Niki Minter, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
As of now, I think my love for Guillermo Del Toro as a filmmaker is well established. I adore the man and his work. He plays in my favorite sandboxes, with monsters, vampires, kaiju, giant robots, and in the gothic world whenever he feels like it. The man is after my heart with every single movie he makes. In 2015, he went ahead and asked himself, what does this girl love that she hasn’t gotten a whole lot of lately? And he answered with a gothic love story with ghosts in a Hammer-esque setting in a mansion with walls that bleed and memories imbedded in its construction. So, if you didn’t guess from all that, this...

Back in the 2000s, one horror franchise would reign supreme over all others… Saw. From 2004 to 2010, seven films were released and each was more gruesome than the next. People usually break the franchise down into different groups as to which is their favorite. There’s the original trilogy, which most would say is where the best films stem from. It’s also where Leigh Whannell, James Wan and Darren Lynn Bousman had the most control over the franchise. There’s the middle trilogy, which most tend to hate and believe the series jumped the shark. Then there’s 7-9 where it consists of a 3D film, a film entitled Jigsaw and...

Back in 1820, author Washington Irving created a short story entitled The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. It brought to life the haunting character of The Headless Horseman. This legendary tale would become the stuff of nightmares and scare people of all ages. So what was the next best thing to do? That’s right…adapt it into a movie! And not just any movie… we’re talking about Disney’s The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (Record Scratch)…Sorry I meant Tim Burton’s 1999 Horror film Sleepy Hollow (watch it Here). Of all the adaptations to release, this one is the perfect version. So why and how did this get made? And how...

The Tremors 4: The Legend Begins episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Edited by Ric Solomon, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
The subterranean creatures known as Graboids are prehistoric life-forms. And the first Tremors movie wasn’t the story of humanity’s first encounter with them. In fact, there was a series of Graboid attacks just one hundred years earlier. Four movies into the Tremors franchise, we got a prequel that took us back to the Old West for a tale of cowboys and monsters. It’s Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (watch it Here) – which turned out to be the least successful installment in the series. We’re going to try to figure out why in this episode of What the F*ck Happened to This Horror Movie!

Hannibal Lecter… a name that has been cemented forever in the hearts of horror fans alike. We’ve seen him in some truly gruesome, yet unforgettable films. The most well known is The Silence of the Lambs, which was followed up in 2001 with the mostly disliked, self-titled Hannibal. But the very next year, in 2002, we were treated to somewhat of a redemption story of Hannibal Lecter in the form of Red Dragon (watch it Here). Did you know though, that this wasn’t the first time Red Dragon was made? Did you also know that none other than Brett Ratner, of then Rush Hour fame, directed this psychological thriller? Let’s look back,...

Keanu Reeves has made a household name for himself. In the 90’s, he was the star of classics like Speed, Point Break, the movie that changed Sci-Fi action, The Matrix, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (record scratch)…okay, so he wasn’t the best part of that movie. Let’s move along!
In mid-2010’s, he reinvented himself again as John Wick in the John Wick franchise. To this day, he’s kicking ass, taking names and getting us audience members to flock to the theatre and watch whatever he puts out.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, I would watch all his films. Two of them would stand out to me before The Matrix came out. The first and obvious choice was Speed. The other was Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure…a film that has stood the test of time. So let’s try to guess what number I’m thinking of,...

The Slither episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written and Edited by Ric Solomon, Narrated by Travis Hopson, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
James Gunn has become a huge household name in the superhero world. From 2010’s critically panned, cult favorite film, Super, to making the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best trilogy in Guardians of the Galaxy, to now becoming co-ceo of DC Studios and even has a Superman project up his sleeve.
I bet you’re wondering where James honed his craft to become the director he is today. Well, his tenure with Troma Films is well documented but it really all started with his directorial debut, Slither (watch it Here). It’s a film that pays homage to The Blob and feels like a mix of Dawn of the Dead as well as Ridley Scott’s 1979 Sci-Fi epic,...

Ah, 2002…what a year for movies! Pierce Brosnan made his last appearance as James Bond in Die Another Day, Eminem became a breakout movie star in 8 Mile, Harry Potter and his friends were solving Hogwarts mysteries in The Chamber of Secrets and two genre defining films were about to be launched upon the world. The first being Sam Raimi’s epic superhero film Spider-Man. It was both a huge critical and box office success that would set the standard on how these types of movies would be made going forward. The second, and even more important was 28 Days Later (watch it Here). Danny Boyle’s post-apocalyptic film in which people are infected by rage was the...

Of all the big-screen gangsters, none outside of maybe the Corleone family have had the impact on audiences that Al Pacino’s Tony Montana has had. To this day, dialogue from Brian De Palma’s Scarface is referenced in hip-hop, and it’s hard for people to remember that in 1983, Scarface was not considered all that successful a film. It did decently at the box office, but it wasn’t a runaway smash. De Palma faced a lot of criticism for the movie’s extreme violence, with him infamously swapping an X-rated movie cut with the MPAA-approved R-rated cut for general release. In this episode of Wtf Happened to this Movie, we dig into the making of De Palma’s classic. So say hello to my little friend and press play on What Happened to Scarface!

Let’s settle this debate once and for all; despite what anyone says, 1988’s Die Hard is most definitely a Christmas movie. It may be the greatest Christmas movie ever, although there are more challengers to the throne than you may think. One of the eighties’ other most influential action movies, Lethal Weapon, which came a year before Die Hard in 1987, is itself one heck of a good Christmas movie. Like Die Hard, no one thought of it as a Christmas movie when it first came out. Die Hard was a summer movie, while Lethal Weapon came out in March. Yet, over the years, it became a yuletide favorite, and indeed it has some rich Christmas themes, such as the importance of family, second chances, redemption and more.
Of course, both movies also happen to be among the best action flicks of their respective eras, so in this episode of JoBlo Face-Off,...

They are the two biggest threats to the galaxy. First up, the Jedi Knight formerly known as Anakin Skywalker — Darth Vader. When the Galactic Empire took hold, many began to quiver at his very name. He brought an iron fist down on those that refused to align themselves with the Empire and earned a dangerous reputation because of it. If you were unlucky enough to be an Admiral aboard his ship, you could easily find yourself choked out of a job… and your life.
In the other corner, there’s the shadowy figure behind the entire Empire. Emperor Palpatine was able to leverage the Republic into giving him complete control over the Galactic Senate to fight the Empire. They had no idea at the time that he was in charge of both. He was able to grasp ultimate power and wouldn’t let go of it, even after death. He...
