Bernie Madoff’s crimes, depicted in Netflix’s true crime documentary Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street, destroyed thousands of lives. While his sons and other relatives cut him off entirely after his 2008 arrest, Ruth Madoff stuck by her husband’s side.
That is, until Sheryl Weinstein, the former executive of Hadassah, publically claimed in her memoir titled Madoff’s Other Secret: Love, Money, Bernie, and Me to having an affair with Bernie in the ’90s. This news finally gave Ruth the courage to walk away from Bernie for good. Here’s what we know:

Almost immediately after his arrest in 2008, his family was struck by one tragedy after another, ensuring the Madoff name ended with the death of Madoff’s sons. Here’s a look at how Madoff’s Ponzi scheme destroyed his family.

Pfeiffer stars as the title character—wife of 38th President Gerald Ford—in Showtime's new series The First Lady, and in a recent interview, the 63-year-old revealed that she will never portray a real person again. Why? Because "it's very weighty and it's with you all the time." She has previously played real people—including Ruth Madoff in The Wizard of Lies and LouAnne Johnson in Dangerous Minds—but this series marked a turning point for her. Bernard Madoff, the convicted Ponzi schemer whose long-term, multi-billion-dollar financial manipulations ruined clients and rattled financial markets, has died.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed the death of Madoff, 82, at Federal Medical Center in Butner, N.C. The bureau told Deadline in a statement that it resulted from natural causes and not Covid-19.
About a year ago, Madoff’s attorney had requested his release, citing chronic kidney failure and saying he had just 18 months to live as of that time.
Madoff pleaded guilty in 2009 and was sentenced in 2011 to the maximum jail term of 150 years. Eventually, authorities managed to return $12 billion to investors, but that was just a fraction of the nearly $65 billion entrusted to Madoff.

Producer Katherine “Katy” Textor, who collaborated with Morley Safer on nearly all of his reports over his last years on 60 Minutes, died of cancer Friday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan. She was 45 and her death was reported by CBS.
Textor came to CBS News in 2003 from ABC News, where she was a White House producer, political reporter on the Bush-Gore 2000 presidential race and worked for the documentary unit. She began working with Safer at 60 Minutes in 2004.
Textor was remembered by colleagues for her dedication to Safer and his work that helped keep the legendary correspondent on the air until a few weeks before his death. Over a 12-year period with Safer, she produced profiles, features and investigations.

David E. Kelley and Michelle Pfeiffer, married a quarter of a century and, hence, one of Hollywood’s more unusually enduring pairs, are asking $29.5 million for their sprawling estate in the rustic and wildly prosperous unincorporated Northern California community of Woodside, about 35 miles south of San Francisco. As our celebrity real estate compatriot Yolanda Yakketyyak reported, the Hollywood power couple, who unsurprisingly maintain a much more modestly proportioned if still prodigiously pricey pied-a-terre in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades, purchased the two parcels that comprise the 8.67-acre spread in two separate transactions about four years apart, the first in 2004 and the second in 2008, for a combined cost of $20.6 million.
Secured by gates and sequestered amid lush gardens down a long driveway at the tail end of a pin-drop quite cul-de-sac, the main house, an ivy-covered semi-Tuscan villa that dates to the early 1940s, has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms in 6,379 square feet.

Remember Bernie? No, not the one that a lot of people loved and wanted to be President. The other Bernie. The one who screwed over a lot of people with a Ponzi scheme. Well, there's a new HBO film coming out focusing on his life and how it was ruined. It stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer and the movie looks great!
De Niro is a Hollywood legend that was once was considered one of the greats. Well, it looks like he's found that magic again because he certainly seems to be bringing some power and gravitas to this new role. Not only does DeNiro look great in the film, but so does Michelle Pfeiffer. We haven't seen a lot of her lately in the movies but I loved her as Catwoman in Batman Returns and many of the other films she's made in her career.

It’s going to take a lot of booze to erase the memory of a topless Robert De Niro chatting inanely about smegma in Dirty Grandpa, a film that both horrified and depressed audiences. How could De Niro, arguably the finest actor of his generation and responsible for a decent amount of the cast iron iconic moments in the history of cinema, have agreed to this?! Most concluded that he’d essentially given up on his career, taking whatever easy job came along in order to fund his pet projects. But now there’s a faint glimmer of light on the horizon, courtesy of this promising trailer for upcoming HBO original, The Wizard of Lies.
Directed by Barry Levinson, the film chronicles the collapse of Bernie Madoff’s financial empire, showing what was going behind the scenes as the investors realized to their horror that Madoff’s investments were nonexistent...

HBO has unveiled a new trailer for The Wizard of Lies, which stars Robert De Niro as Bernie Madoff, the now-imprisoned financier who perpetrated a $50 billion Ponzi scheme that's recognized as the largest financial fraud in U.S. history.

As she moves into what most actresses would consider the twilight of their career, photos from the set of new HBO film Wizard of Lies confirm that Michelle Pfeiffer continues to defy the laws of aging. The 57-year-old has been pictured in New York filming a solo scene as Ruth Madoff, wife of notorious Wall Street fraudster Bernard Madoff, and she looks ready to bring her particular brand of sexy to her starring role opposite Robert De Niro.
In a career spanning a whopping 35 years, Pfeiffer has taken on a variety of diverse roles across a number of different genres, receiving Oscar nominations for her efforts on three occasions. Her work today is a far cry from her initial career choice, however. After graduating from high school in 1976 Pfeiffer began training as a stenographer, though a court of law was never a suitable setting for such a bright and beautiful young woman.

Is that you, Michelle Pfeiffer?! The actress was spotted for the first time in over a year on the set of her new HBO TV movie, "Wizard of Lies," dressed in full costume as Ruth Madoff on Monday in NYC. In the photo, the actress looks like a far cry from her normal self, sporting a giant coat, scarf, round reading glasses and short blonde hair. In the movie, Michelle will play Bernie Madoff's wife (below), alongside Robert De Niro will play the troubled investment advisor. The drama -- based on Diana B. Henriques' 2012 book of the same title -- will tell the story of the former stockbroker, who was convicted of fraud after orchestrating one of the biggest Ponzi schemes in history. Madoff's wife, who was the director of Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities, managed to avoid serving any prison time. We're definitely excited to see Michelle and De Niro teaming up again.

Wizard of Lies has no set release date yet, but it is earmarked for a release at some point in 2016.

You talkin’ to me? Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer look barely recognizable as Bernie and Ruth Madoff in stills released for the upcoming HBO film The Wizard of Lies on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Hollywood mainstays, who are set to portray the disgraced financier and his wife, appear smug in the photo, in which De Niro-as-Bernie is seated in a plush armchair, wearing a black pullover, gray slacks, his wedding ring, and an ankle monitor. Pfeiffer-as-Ruth, meanwhile, stands behind her man in a white shirt, light blue [...]...

Alrighty, here’s your first look at HBO Films’ “The Wizard Of Lies.” Directed by Barry Levinson, the drama is currently in production in New York and stars Robert De Niro (as Bernie Madoff) and Michelle Pfeiffer (as Ruth Madoff). Fitting nicely into HBO's one-off drama remit of 'things about grown-up subjects' that no-one else would make (see also: "You Don't Know Jack," "Phil Spector," "Too Big To Fail") “Wizard Of Lies” is a look behind the scenes at Bernie Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme, how it was perpetrated on the public, and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family. Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer are the latest movie stars headed to HBO. The duo will play Bernie and Ruth Madoff in the cable network’s upcoming film The Wizard of Lies, which is described as a look behind the scenes at Bernie Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme, how it was perpetrated on the public, and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family. Although The Wizard of Lies is still in production, HBO has released this first photo of De Niro and Pfeiffer as the Madoffs, and it’s pretty striking. It’s got us even more excited to check out the film when it airs. The Wizard of Lies is being directed by Barry Levinson (who helmed HBO’s You Don’t Know Jack and the upcoming movie Rock the Kasbah, starring Bill Murray, Kate Hudson, and Zooey Deschanel). Michelle Pfeiffer has been cast as Ruth Madoff in HBO Films' "Wizard of Lies," a look behind the scenes at Bernie Madoff’s massive Ponzi scheme uncovered in 2008, how it was perpetrated on the public and the trail of destruction left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff’s family. Pfeiffer joins Robert De Niro, previously cast as Bernie Madoff. The movie icons were last seen together in Luc Besson's 2013 "The Family." Alessandro Nivola will play Mark Madoff, the older of the two sons, who hanged himself in 2010 on the second anniversary of his father's arrest. Younger son Andrew Madoff (not yet cast) died in 2014 after battling cancer. The long-in-the-works project, based on Diana Henriques' same-titled book, could offer Pfeiffer a real platform — and on TV, natch, where the meaty roles live nowadays. The Oscar-nominated actress has been selective about projects in recent years, appearing in indies,...

Michelle Pfeiffer has joined the cast of "Wizard of Lies," HBO's upcoming movie about the Bernie Madoff scandal. She'll be playing Ruth Madoff, wife to Robert De Niro's Bernie, and mother to Alessandra Nivola's Mark, in a film directed by Barry Levinson. This is the fourth film to feature both Pfeiffer and De Niro, though only the second in which they'll have any kind of meaningful interaction. They were largely in separate parts of "Stardust" and "New Year's Eve," though they played husband and wife in 2013's "The Family." It will also be Pfeiffer's first TV role since an uncredited cameo in an episode of husband David E. Kelley's "Picket Fences."...

Michelle Pfeiffer has signed up to join Robert De Niro for HBO Films' long-awaited Bernie Madoff movie, Wizard of Lies, the network announced Thursday. The project, which saw some initial buzz in 2011, has been moving at a glacial pace, but the addition of Pfeiffer is a welcome sign things are finally picking up. Pfeiffer will play De Niro's onscreen wife, Ruth Madoff, and they'll be joined by Alessandro Nivola, who will take a turn as Madoff's older son, Mark. (That is what you call picture-perfect casting — even before all the makeup!) The story follows Madoff's infamous Ponzi scheme; Barry Levinson will direct, based on Diana Henriques's book of the same name, as well as Laurie Sandell's Truth and Consequences. Sam Baum, Sam Levinson, and John Burnham Schwartz are attached as writers for the script. Other production details, most notably with regard to timeline, are unavailable at the moment.

New York – Amanda Peet makes a promising left turn into playwriting with this small-scale drama veined with caustic comedy, a work both topical and personal that succeeds on its own refreshingly modest terms. Like Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, its central figure is a woman in the Ruth Madoff mold, but Peet’s interest in her is less as a character study than as an avenue to explore the emotional fallout of public disgrace for those caught in the crossfire. More obliquely, The Commons of Pensacola reflects with insight and compassion on women at turning points where age and diminishing

The plot of Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" has been kept under pretty heavy wraps ... until now.
The first "Blue Jasmine" trailer debuted on Friday, offering Allen fans a pretty clear look at his latest film. Previously described as "the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife," "Blue Jasmine" actually looks like Allen's take on the Bernie Madoff scandal that rocked the financial world in 2008. Cate Blanchett stars in the film as the title blue Jasmine, a Ruth Madoff stand-in who moves from New York to San Francisco to live with her sister (played by Sally Hawkins) after Jasmine's husband (Alec Baldwin) is arrested for fraud. The result is a culture clash for Jasmine, as Hawkins' character runs with working class stiffs played by Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Bobby Cannavale and Max Casella.

The actress categories always seem to be the most exciting every single year and this year is already shaping up to be no different. Following the Cannes Film Festival there is some definite shuffling of the contenders to be done following the initial release of my first predictions in the Best Actress category over two months ago and with the moving and shaking comes four new names added to the list. First, however, we'll begin at the top where I've kept Naomi Watts at #1 for her role in Diana. The film from director Oliver Hirschbiegel was picked up by eOne Films out of the Cannes Film Festival and will be released later this year. I must admit, the fact eOne picked it up and not a larger studio gives me a little pause, but I just get the feeling we're coming to a point in Watts' career where she's considered...

Tomorrow you will get your first look at 666 Park Avenue, the newest addition to ABC’s Sunday lineup that already includes two other relatively new shows going into their second seasons in Once Upon a Time and Revenge. You’ve probably seen plenty of commercials and promos for 666 Park Avenue, which is powered by some pretty familiar faces with former Lost star Terry O’Quinn, super cute Rachael Taylor, Vanessa Williams, and Dave Annable. We now have two more featurettes from ABC, each highlighting two 666 actors discussing the show and their roles.
