The adventures of Conan the Barbarian are not, in their purest form, for children. Created by pulp author Robert E. Howard in 1932, the Cimmerian warrior inhabits a cruel world ruled by those who are handiest with a sword or endowed with the power of sorcery. Though Conan is uncommonly chivalric, he is utterly ruthless in combat — and Howard's battle scenes are described in invigoratingly vicious detail. There are impalements and beheadings and wholesale eviscerations. There are also orgies and elements of bondage. But the presence of wizards and dragons and all kinds of nasty monsters means Conan's tales are catnip for kids.
There have been efforts to tone down the sex and violence of Conan's tales, but they are essential to his appeal. Howard wrote with a boundless fury; he roared and raged as he bashed away at his typewriter. The savagery is the point. If you want sanitized, kid-friendly fantasy,...

The Hyborian Age has a new home.
Titan Comics, the England-based publisher known for its mostly licensed line of titles, has nabbed the comics rights to Conan the Barbarian and other creations of fantasy author Robert E. Howard, entering into a co-publishing venture with Heroic Signature, the intellectual property house that owns the rights.
The deal covers not just comics, but also graphic novels as well as remastered archives, including the omnibus program previously published by Marvel Comics. Marvel has held the rights to Conan since 2018 and published various comics, including Conan fighting alongside heroes such as Wolverine and Elektra in Savage Avengers.
Titan plans to put out a line of original comic books based on Howard’s creations, starting with a new Conan the Barbarian title as an ongoing series set to launch in May 2023 to coincide with Titan Comics’ 10th anniversary.

Conan the Barbarian is coming to Netflix…and we don’t mean its movie archive! Rather, the streaming giant is moving forward with a live-action television series adapting the swords, sorcery and loincloths-laden mythos created by Robert E. Howard, famously depicted as comic book art from Barry Windsor-Smith and cemented in history as portrayed onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Pathfinder Media, of Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler, have conceived the Conan television project, which has been put into development by Netflix, according to Deadline. The project stems from a deal between Netflix and IP owner Conan Properties International, yielding the streaming giant exclusive rights to the multimedia archives—be it books, television and films—to adapt as new works. Indeed, it’s a strategy that mirrors widely-encompassing exclusive deals Netflix made in recent years to produce serial adaptations of author Roald Dahl’s work, and comic book titles under Mark Millar’s Millarworld branding.

A live-action TV series based on “Conan the Barbarian” is in development at Netflix, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
The project is from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media. It is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, which is owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The two will serve as executive producers.
The series does not have a writer/showrunner or director yet. A search for those roles is underway.
Conan the Barbarian is based on the character by Robert E. Howard, who introduced the sword-wielding fighter in a series of short stories that were first published in 1932.
The character has been adapted in numerous forms, most famously by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982’s “Conan the Barbarian,” which was his first major role and rocketed him to international fame. He again played the character in the 1984 sequel, “Conan the Destroyer.

Exclusive: Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.
I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.
The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.
A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media.

There have been talks of a Conan The Barbarian sequel and even the name Arnold Schwarzenegger has been attached but it’s seemingly unlikelier by the minute that we’re going to see a feature film any time soon. However, a television series may very well happen. Despite recent reports of the big screen Legend of Conan reboot being cancelled, a TV series could still materialize in the very near future. President & CEO of Cabinet Entertainment Fredrik Malmberg explained: Ultimately, the studio let the rights expire. The positive news is that Conan Properties now controls everything again, and are currently producing

Take another look @ actor Arnold Schwarzenegger as Universal Pictures' "King Conan: The Legend Of Conan", now set for a November 2016 release, as the official sequel to director John Milius' 1982 feature "Conan The Barbarian":
Producer Fredrik Malmberg said the new film would "pick up 'Conan' where Arnold is now in his life.
"We will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story.
"I love the property of 'Conan' so much that I wouldn't touch it unless we came up with something worthy.
"We think this is a worthy successor to the original film. Think of this as Conan's 'Unforgiven'."
"The idea is that this takes place after Conan has been king.
"But this is the legend of Conan where he has been gone and people say, ‘Do you remember the good ol’ days when Conan was around?’ And now it’s time for him to come back.

Syfy and Universal have today announced they have greenlit Blood Drive, a high-octane, over-the-top scripted series in the classic grindhouse movie tradition. Set in a near-apocalyptic future, the 13-episode series centers around La’s last good cop who is forced to join a twisted, gory cross-country death race – with cars powered by blood (Blood Car anyone?) and a dangerous femme fatale partner who sees people as fuel. Sounds a lot like Blood Drive the video game (pictured above) – but apparently this is no relation.
Blood Drive is from executive producers John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, The Shield) and David Straiton (Bates Motel, Hemlock Grove), who will also direct. Said Dave Howe, President, Syfy & Chiller:
This highly stylized roller coaster ride is a throwback to 1970s grindhouse cinema. With its fast-paced thrills and indie feel, Blood Drive will make an exciting and edgy addition to Syfy’s growing slate of original scripted series.

It was only a matter of time before Conan would come back onto the screen to crush enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentations of their women, and now it appears the project in question, The Legend of Conan, has once again picked up steam. Screenwriter and producer Chris Morgan (Furious 7) and fellow producer Fredrik Malmberg (the 2011 Conan the Barbarian remake) confirm the script is ready, and it will be a direct sequel to 1982's Conan the Barbarian, taking place 30 years later. As reported previously, Arnold Schwarzenegger is slated to return as the titular character. The interview and exclusive comes from TheArnoldFans.com. Among the information mentioned above, the sequel will also apparently not be given "a tame rating" and will feature Schwarzenegger as "aged, pissed and battle ready." Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the '82 film...but 30 years later.

Speaking with TheArnoldFans.com, "The Legend of Conan" producer/co-writer Chris Morgan and Fredrik Malmberg say that the upcoming new 'Conan' film will both stay true to Robert E. We've been hearing that Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return for "The Legend of Conan." And now, producer Fredrik Malmberg has revealed that filming may begin early next year. "We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters, but we don't think it will take long," he said. "We'll probably have this turned in around September and then we'll take it to the studio and if they're happy, we can hopefully start in the Spring." Malmberg was then asked if any directors have been approached. "We haven't been talking with directors yet. A lot of directors have come fourth and expressed interest and that they like 'Conan' and want to be involved when we're at that stage but the studio said they want the script to be ready before we officially approach the directors. But we have been in touch with old great names and new fresh faces.

At present, the final touches are being applied to the latest draft of the script, with the film still yet to receive the official greenlight, but Malmberg seems confident that this should be a formality. “We’ll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday,” says Malmberg, “and then we’ll take it to the studio and if they’re happy, we...

Arnold Schwarzenegger's comeback has gone... well... it's certainly gone, hasn't it? The movies haven't really performed up to anybody's expectations. By the time Sabotage rolled around earlier this year, we started to wonder if he was even a leading man anymore. Well, clearly our opinion is moot, because Schwarzenegger still sees himself as a king. A King Conan, if you will. TheArnoldFans, a fan site for all things Schwarzenegger, recently caught up with King Conan producer Fredrik Malmberg and he claimed that it could be spring 2015 when Schwarzenegger once again crushes his enemies, sees them driven before him, and hears the lamentations of their women. "We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters. But we don't think it will take long. We'll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday and then we'll take it to the studio and if they're happy, we can...

Ok, fans of Conan the Barbarian, producers have heard your lamentations and have taken steps to bring everyone’s favorite barbarian back to the big screen. That’s right: there are movements being made as we speak to put Arnold Schwarzenegger back in one of his foundational roles as Conan the Barbarian, in the upcoming The Legend of Conan.
According to producer Fredrik Malmberg (via /Film), the script for The Legend of Conan is in the process of being polished and the producers are now aiming for a Spring 2015 start date on production. This means that Arnold would would make this movie following his return to the Terminator franchise.
Here’s what else Malmberg had to say about what needs to happen before the film is produced:

I've been waiting for this Legend of Conan movie to get made since it was first announced back in 2012. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to reprise his role, and he will be a seasoned warrior. The story will supposedly pick up right where the classic 1982 film left off with an older Conan sitting on his throne. We now have word from producer Fredrik Malmberg that the movie will actually start shooting in the spring of 2015. This is what Malmberg had to say in an interview with The Arnold Fans:
"We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters but we don’t think it will take long. We’ll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday and then we’ll take it to the studio and if they’re happy, we can hopefully start in the Spring."

Back in 2012, it was revealed that Universal wanted to get Arnold Schwarzengger back in epic action with The Legend of Conan, a direct sequel to the original 1984 film Conan the Barbarian. Last year, World Trade Center scribe Andrea Berloff was supposed to write the script, and now some fans are wondering when the film might actually go in front of cameras. Well, we have a hopeful answer from producer Fredrik Malmberg who spoke with The Arnold Fans (via ComingSoon) and revealed that script is supposed to be done this fall with an eye towards beginning production sometime in the spring of 2015. Here's what Malmberg said when asked whether it would be Schwarzenegger's next film: "Arnold wants that. I would like that and I know everyone from the studio side would like that but it's all in the script. We need to get the script where it's right and ready to go.

Producer Fredrik Malmberg says that the upcoming "The Legend of Conan," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as an older version of his Conan the Barbarian character from the 1980s, is targeting a production start of Spring 2015 for a 2016 release. Speaking with TheArnoldFans.com, Malmberg says he's happy with Andrea Berloff's screenplay which is undergoing a polish at the moment:
"We want to polish up the script, specifically about the characters. But we don't think it will take long. We'll probably have this turned in around September after the holiday and then we'll take it to the studio and if they're happy, we can hopefully start (production) in the Spring (2015)."
The intention is for Schwarzenegger to do "The Legend of Conan" after he finishes his commitments to the "Terminator" reboot, but it all depends on the script being ready in time:

Sneak Peek a new poster from the Cannes Film Festival promoting the upcoming Universal Pictures feature "King Conan: The Legend Of Conan", starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, who first played the 'Cimmerian' barbarian in 1982:
Producer Fredrik Malmberg said the new film would "pick up 'Conan' where Arnold is now in his life.
"We will be able to use the fact that he has aged in this story. I love the property of 'Conan' so much that I wouldn't touch it unless we came up with something worthy.

Though it's still in development, new details have emerged regarding the upcoming "The Legend of Conan" project which would star Arnold Schwarzenegger as an elderly version of the legendary barbarian.
Arnie, screenwriter Andrea Berloff, and producer Fredrik Malmberg recently spoke with ArnoldFans.com about the project which the 68-year-old Austrian actor is keen to get to work on:
"Conan is very much alive. Age doesn't mean anything to me, because I work out every day. I work out twice a day, as a matter of fact. At night I work out with weights, and in the morning I do cardiovascular training.
So for me, to get on the set and to swing the sword around again and to ride the horses and all those things doesn't mean anything [does not scare me], because I feel like I did thirty years ago. So as long as I stay in shape, that's the key thing, and to keep your body young.

One of the most groan-inducing aspects of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - and there are many - was watching the way Spielberg and company were playing a Will They?/Won't They? game with turning Shia Labeouf's character into the next Indiana Jones.
