Exclusive: Comedian and writer Julian Clary (Julian Clary: Live – Lord of the Mince) will play the title role in this festive season’s London Palladium pantomime Robin Hood, with singer and travel show presenter Jane McDonald (Cruising with Jane McDonald) topping the bill as Maid Marion.
The annual Palladium show, now in its ninth consecutive season, has become an eagerly awaited staple in the West End’s calendar. It runs from December 7 through January 12, 2025. Priority booking opens 10 Am (GMT) April 25.
Last year’s production, Peter Pan, with comedy legend Jennifer Saunders making her pantomime debut as Captain Hook, and with Clary playing Seaman Smee, was a sold-out success, playing 56 performances -often two a day – to an audience of more than 123,000 at the 2,200 capacity variety house.
When tickets went on sale, there was a moment when 90,000 people were in the queue, waiting their turn to book seats.

Exclusive: Star traitors and faithfuls are set to face off on in the UK in a celebrity version of smash hit format The Traitors, which Deadline understands is set to launch on the BBC next year.
Several sources have told us that an agreement between Studio Lambert, which makes the UK and U.S. versions of The Traitors, and the BBC, which broadcasts it, is close. The hope is that the first celeb version will film next year and go out later in 2025, by which time three seasons of the “civilian” version will have aired. Host Claudia Winkleman is expected to present the celeb version.
The U.S. and UK versions of The Traitors — in which contestants live together and take part in challenges while seeking to uncloak the traitors among their number — are filmed back to back in a castle in Scotland. The producers could capitalize upon that model...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
"Shrek" was a very important movie in animation history. It provided DreamWorks with its first true breakthrough hit, taking in $492 million in 2001. It ensured that Disney would have meaningful competition in the animation space for years to come, which has only been furthered in recent years with the dominance of Illumination in the marketplace. For DreamWorks though, it birthed what would become the studio's flagship franchise, one that has generated more than $3 billion since its inception. That franchise's biggest moment came in 2004 when "Shrek 2" hit theaters.
The animation house founded by former Disney executive Jeffrey Katzenberg hit a home run by pairing Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy as Shrek and Donkey in the first film, in no small part thanks to the stellar supporting cast.

The long awaited follow up to Rob Reiner’s comedy classic This Is Spinal Tap has begun filming, lots of musical cameos have also been confirmed.
There is only one comedy film which turns the laughs up to eleven, and that is if course Rob Reiner’s 1984 classic This Is Spinal Tap. This Is Spinal Tap is often cited as one of the funniest films ever made, with musicians frequently applauding the accuracy of several scenes, from petty band squabbles to getting lost backstage and over the top props onstage.

The BBC has revealed more details about this year’s Comic Relief telethon, which will be broadcast on 15th March on BBC One.
Comic Relief launched in 1985 with a telethon that has since become embedded in British culture. Known as Red Nose Day, on account of the red noses sold as part of the appeal, over the years this has led to many classic comic moments, from The Young Ones singing Livin’ Doll with Cliff Richard, to Johnny Depp and Sting appearing in The Vicar Of Dibley, to Billy Connolly running naked through Trafalgar Square and Mr Bean infiltrating both Blind Date, and a Torvill and Dean dance routine.
Lenny Henry, who co-founded Comic Relief with Richard Curtis, recently revealed that he will be stepping down as host after this year’s telethon. Henry said of his decision that “when we first started Comic Relief back in 1985, I never dreamed...

Exclusive: Fathom Events has acquired the fantasy throwback film Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps, set to be released nationwide in theaters sometime this summer.
The project marks the return to the big screen for The NeverEnding Story star Tami Stronach, who played the Childlike Empress in that 1984 fantasy film. In Man and Witch she portrays the titular witch alongside her husband Greg Steinbruner, who stars as the titular man.
A passion project for the couple, Man and Witch—inspired by their own love story— was produced under their Paper Canoe Company banner, with Steinbruner also serving as screenwriter. Spoiler Alert: This story contains detailed descriptions of plots and key scenes in the Netflix thriller series “Fool Me Once.”
Joanna Lumley hadn’t read Harlan Coben’s bestselling novel “Fool Me Once” before shooting its Netflix series adaptation. In other words, she wasn’t aware of the final episode’s many twists until she read the script. “My heart was beating so fast,” Lumley tells me. “The cast gathered and we were all like, ‘Oh, my God! What do you think of this?’”
And that’s exactly what viewers seem to be asking each other — what do you think of this? – because the series’ main plot and multiple storylines coalesce into a primetime soap smorgasbord of lunacy and outrageousness.
The eight-episode series stars British soap star Michelle Keegan as Maya, a former Army helicopter pilot whose husband Joe (Richard Armitage), a wealthy pharmaceutical company heir, is fatally shot in...

Adam Deacon’s star-stuffed parody arrives on digital platforms next week ahead of a boxing day rental release.
The latest film from BAFTA-winner Adam Deacon will be available to download and keep on digital platforms from the 12th December, before becoming rent-able (presumably from those same ‘digital platforms’) from the 26th December.
We’ve not managed to catch this one yet, but the synopsis (and a stacked cast list) have our curiosity piqued. Here is that very same synopsis:
In this parody of the UK urban genre Riko and Kane have got it all … big dreams, no respect and a fifteen grand debt. Could things get any worse?

British comedy icon Jennifer Saunders has vowed that by the end of 2023, she will have completed a new Absolutely Fabulous script based on the beloved BBC sitcom.
Saunders, 65, promised her long-time writing partner and friend Dawn French that she would have an early draft of the project done in the next two months. French previously revealed that she regularly challenges Saunders to work when she can see her friend needs encouragement.
Dawn established a prior deal with Saunders that if Saunders was unable to complete the Absolutely Fabulous script, she would have to pay French £10,000.
When French asked Saunders what she wanted to be “forced to do” in a recent interview, Saunders responded, “I need to write a film or a series based on AbFab, because everyone wants another AbFab movie. I can’t do that, I just don’t have a thing. I want to do something related.”

Is Richard Osman’s House of Games the perfect teatime quiz show? It’s certainly in contention. Silly, funny and warm, it makes very good company. The armchairs exude a sense of convivial relaxation. There are no flashing-lights podiums or tense burden of cash prizes, making it a wholly gentler experience than, say, The Chase. It keeps the same four contestants all week long, meaning that the kind of rapport other quiz shows try to manufacture in rapid-fire Q&As with the host can naturally develop. The personalities and relationships are almost as important as the rounds and questions, and it’s all done with a sense of humour – from the deliberately naff 1970s gameshow-style fondue sets and carriage clock prizes, to the enjoyable silliness behind almost every round.
To celebrate the new series airing now on weekdays at 6pm on BBC Two, here are a few fun titbits about the show.

“As of now, Coraline is Fathom’s biggest classic movie of all time and the second highest grossing title for 2023,” Ray Nutt, CEO of Fathom Events, said in a statement. “This film carries such a large fan following year after year, and they certainly came out in force this year to see their favorite film.”

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the BBC sitcom Ghosts
One of the best things about BBC sitcom Ghosts is the way the cast welcomes viewers into its heartwarming friendship circle, and makes us feel like one of the gang. They might be one of the tightest ensembles in the business, but there’s a definite generosity of spirit (pun intended) in Ghosts, and a “the more the merrier” vibe.
Perhaps this is why there’ve been so many memorable guest stars. The show easily attracts superstar-level names as well as giving a well-earned platform to some of the UK’s rising comedy stars. While we eagerly await Ghosts fifth – and sadly final – series, let’s remind ourselves of some of the show’s best guest appearances:
Jennifer Saunders
It’s hard to imagine someone formidable enough to have birthed a character like Lady Fanny Button (aka Martha Howe-Douglas), so...

Judi Dench is opening up about the eye condition that is making it more difficult for her on the set and read her scripts.
“I mean I can’t see on a film set anymore,” Dench told The Daily Mirror’s Notebook in an interview. “And I can’t see to read. So I can’t see much. But you know you just deal with it. Get on.”
She continued, “It’s difficult for me if I have any length of a part. I haven’t yet found a way. Because I have so many friends who will teach me the script. But I have a photographic memory.”
Dench has a condition that is called age-related macular degeneration (Amd), which she was diagnosed with back in 2012. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, this condition affects the central vision but people rarely go completely blind from it.
At 88, Dench continues to work on acclaimed projects.

Ricky Gervais and Sharon Horgan’s agent has said creatives should “be careful what they wish for” when considering whether to launch production companies.
United Agents vet Duncan Hayes told a BBC Comedy Festival audience that his constant challenge is “steering” creatives towards writing and directing over getting too involved with their businesses, which can be incredibly time costly.
Gervais runs Derek Productions and Horgan is the co-founder of Merman TV, and both have devoted much of their time to building up their indies over the past few years.
“Sometimes Sharon has a lot of plates to spin,” said Hayes. “She is running a successful indie and has lots of scripts to write. It can feel a bit ‘be careful what you wish for’ when you have the weight of your own production company.”

Piers Morgan has apologised to Kathy Burke after blocking her on Twitter in 2017.
On a recent episode of her podcast, Burke claimed that Morgan blocked her on the social media platform in 2016, after she joked about him falling for a tweet mourning a celebrity who had died years before.
After the comedian told the story, her guest Jennifer Saunders called the TalkTV presenter a “t***”.
On Wednesday (5 April) evening, Morgan, who is currently preparing to air his Uncensored interview with Stormy Daniels, called for a truce with Burke, suggesting that the pair should both unblock each other.
“I agree with @ferrifrump about this, I was a t***,” he tweeted.

A man who made more than £1m selling fake vinyl records was caught out by a fan of The Clash.
Richard Hutter – who has been given a suspended jail sentence – had been selling counterfeit records over a six-year period.
He was uncovered after selling an LP of the British punk band to a fan who then demanded their money back because the sound quality was not as sharp as they thought it should have been.
According to The Guardian, when the refund was refused, the customer complained to trading standards officers, who bought two sample records from Hutter’s website: Appetite for Destruction by Guns N’ Roses, and Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age. Both vinyls turned out to be fake.
Hutter’s home address was searched in July 2018 as a result, with officers seizing his phone and laptop, as well as a number of counterfeit records and sleeves.

Don Lemon has strongly denied recent accusations lodged against him, which included claims of workplace misogyny and “diva-like behaviour”.
In a new damning report from Variety, several sources alleged he had disrespected CNN co-hosts Nancy Grace on air and broadcaster Soledad O’Brien during an editorial meeting, among other things.
According to fellow colleagues, Lemon mocked Grace by mimicking her on air.
While Grace declined the outlet’s request for comment, a person close to her confirmed “she thinks he’s an ass” and that he was generally “rude, dismissive and really unfamiliar with the [news] content being discussed”.
Other witnesses spoke about a time he had allegedly argued O’Brien wasn’t Black in an editorial meeting attended by around 30 additional staffers.
He was claimed to have been upset that O’Brien was chosen to host CNN’s 2008 docuseries Black in America.

Gordon Ramsay says he gets particularly upset when people suggest he uses cocaine due to his strict anti-drugs stance.
The celebrity chef discussed his itinerant upbringing on various council estates and his brother’s heroin addiction on the latest episode of Spencer Matthews’s podcast, Big Fish.
“Growing up in multiple s***holes, you get one’s s*** together early,” Ramsay told the former Made in Chelsea star.
“I just wanted to better myself and get out of a situation that was unfortunate. I had grown up on 15 council estates.”
He continued: “I set out to change and give my family the security and everything that I had wished for at their age. I never expected that level of success, like any success it's worked for.”
The 56-year-old explained that while he was becoming more successful, his brother’s addiction issues were escalating.
“The flipside to my success is my brother’s addiction to heroin.

BBC Breakfast experienced what appeared to be an amusing production blunder on Tuesday (4 April) during a weather segment.
At 8am, the news and current affairs series introduced presenter Carol Kirkwood, who issued a brief update on the weather forecast.
However, though she was discussing the weather in the UK, the map behind her was in fact an unlabelled image of Spain and Portugal.
“Good morning,” she began. “It’s a cold and frosty start to the day for many of us today. But there’s a fair bit of sunshine away from the north and west, where we’ve got thicker cloud and some rain.”
She went on to give a brief update on the weather for the Bank Holiday weekend, before teasing a more extensive weather report later in the programme – all while the map of Spain remained unchanged behind her.
The mishap didn’t escape the notice of BBC Breakfast viewers,...

Donald Glover has opened up about Liam Neeson’s 2022 cameo in Atlanta, revealing that the Northern Irish actor initially turned down the role due to a race row.
While promoting the revenge movie Cold Pursuit in 2019, Neeson told The Independent that he once walked the streets with a cosh for days, looking to kill a “Black bastard” after someone close to him was raped many years ago.
Neeson said that he felt “ashamed” of his past “awful” behaviour. His comments were widely condemned and the premiere of Cold Pursuit was cancelled.
Last year, Neeson had a cameo in Glover’s dark comedy Atlanta, in a scene in which Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) meets Neeson at a bar called “Cancel Club” and discusses his past “transgression”.

Jack Black has said he will “call Elon Musk’s bluff” over his Twitter blue tick verifcation.
Musk, who owns the social media platform, announced the company was going to remove blue ticks from the accounts of legacy verified users from 1 April, meaning only accounts that paid the company $8 or $11 per month would have the badge.
However, users noticed that, instead of losing their verification status, Twitter has seemingly instead removed information differentiating between legacy verified accounts and Twitter Blue subscribers.
It remains to be seen if Musk’s promises blue tick removal will proceed – although New York Times lost its verification on Sunday (2 April).

Dawn French was unrecognisable (sort of) as Claudia Winkleman in BBC One’s parody of The Traitors for Comic Relief.

In one scene, French parts her fringe using a curtain pulley.

Sir Tony Robinson reprised his Blackadder role of Baldrick for a Red Nose Day 2023 sketch in aid of Comic Relief on Friday (17 March).

This particular episode has regularly been considered a fan favourite among viewers – but viewers have complained that this year’s edition was far too harsh.
Joining Littner and Plant were Mike Souter and Baroness Karren Brady, who sits alongside Sugar in the boardroom.
Brady found herself at the centre of one of the episode’s most brutal moments. As Megan Hornby left her interview, which went dreadfully, she referred to Brady by her first name, to which Brady responded: “It’s Baroness Brady to you. My friends call me Karren.”
She also reduced two of the candidates to tears,...

A Jeopardy! producer has divulged a show secret while apologising for a “horrible error” in a recent episode.
On 9 March, viewers tuning in to watch the game show were frustrated after a shot of the contestants’ final scores was shown during host Mayim Bialik’s opening speech.
The moment spoiled the entirety of the episode, and now executive producer Michael Davies has revealed why the error occurred.
Speaking on the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, Davies said: “Right off the bat, apologies to our entire audience.”
He continued: “We totally blew it at the top of the show. We made a horrible error where we revealed the final scores at the end in the opening cutaway shot during Mayim’s monologue.”
Davies, offering a rare insight into the production of the series, then said the opening part of the show is often re-shot after the game has been completed, with cutaway shots...

Graham Linehan has spoken out about the resulting fallout after sharing his views opposing the trans rights movement, claiming he was asked to disassociate himself from the Father Ted stage musical.
Linehan is known to many for being the co-creator and co-writer of the classic sitcom, along with Arthur Mathews, as well as of shows including Black Books and The It Crowd.
He was suspended from Twitter in 2020 after making a series of controversial remarks about transgender people, but has since been reinstated on the platform.
Though he was reinstated in 2022, Linehan has claimed that his career and social status have not recovered since he began making critical remarks about the trans community.
In an interview with The Times, Linehan claimed that despite previously being involved in reforming Father Ted for the theatre, he’d been asked to end his involvement with the show due to the controversy surrounding him.

Jennifer Saunders has offered up her thoughts on the forthcoming Fawlty Towers reboot.
In February, John Cleese announced that he and his daughter Camilla would be bringing back the Seventies sitcom, which is widely considered to be one of the greatest comedies of all time.
The news prompted shock from comedy fans, many of whom questioned why the already adored show needed to be revived.
In a new interview, Saunders was asked what her reaction had been to the news that Fawlty Towers is returning.
“Slight dread, I have to say,” she told Metro.co.uk. “I just thought, why? Why don’t you write a new thing?
“I don’t understand why you have to do that. You can’t beat the old one.”
The Absolutely Fabulous star and Cleese appeared together in the French-language film L’entente cordiale in 2006, as well as both voicing characters for Shrek 2.

On the surface, Allelujah looks like standard Mother’s Day weekend fare; sweet and a bit twee with a rousing clap for the heroes spirit and the thrilling need to shove a hankie up your sleeve just in case Dame Judi dies at the end.
This is not that film.
It all starts off predictably enough; The Beth is a small Yorkshire hospital under threat of closure and the vulnerable patients in its respected geriatric unit have the most to lose if the battle to save it should fail. Figuratively and literally holding their hands through this turbulent time are Sister Gilpin (Jennifer Saunders) and Dr Valinder Singh Vashish (Bally Gill), who generously adopted the moniker Dr Valentine after patients repeatedly failed to pronounce his name. Dr Val also serves as our narrator.
The inhabitants of the precious beds on the ward are a checklist of sweet and sour, cheeky and confused archetypes,...
