The venerable Deadline reports that a new Stargate series and a new movie/s are currently being discussed at Amazon, with the movie “likely going first.”
It’s not a huge surprise to learn that Stargate (along with Robocop) is a priority for Amazon now that the $8.5 billion MGM purchase has bedded in – they were on the list mooted by industry insider Jeff Snider back in March – but this is the first time one of the major news sites has weighed in.
What is new is the suggestion that it could open with a new movie, which totally makes sense. After all, Amazon recently found its cinema legs with the $100 million release of Creed III, and a new blockbuster Stargate movie would be a fantastic way to kick off a new series in style. That’d hopefully give a new Stargate series a much better chance of survival than so...

On Saturday, the stars of Stargate Atlantis reunited for a panel at Comic-Con@Home, reminiscing about their first Comic-Con appearance as cast members, their initial perceptions of the show and more.
Kicking off the discussion of the cast’s first convention appearance was Rainbow Sun Francks. The actor, who played Lt. Aiden Ford, remembered that his first Comic-Con as part of Stargate was “crazy,” which led David Nykl and other cast members to chime in with further details.
“It was really daunting,” said Nykl, who played Dr. Radek Zelenka. “You’ve got to develop this sort of onstage convention personality, which is like a hybrid between your character and yourself. We had to learn that.”
Actress Torri Higginson (Dr. Elizabeth Weir) recalled that “the studio gave us all free liquor the night before” the panel. Naturally, then, she and her co-stars ended up with “a hangover that only new actors with free liquor would have.

How did you go about taking something like Dirk, [from] Douglas Adams, which to me feels quintessentially British, and then making it something that will work on BBC America and all around the world?
Robert Cooper: Most of the directors of season 2 are British—all are from the UK but one. There's a sensibility to the show, and I think that's to a certain extent what gives the show a little bit of a bend to it,...

When “The Secret History of Twin Peaks” was first announced, the book was pitched as “a novel that reveals what has happened to the people of that iconic fictional town since we last saw them 25 years ago and offers a deeper glimpse into the central mystery that was only touched on by the original series.” Finally arriving last month in advance of the long-awaited 2017 revival of the cult TV show, the book offers only a few glancing details of the former while delving deeply into the latter. Author and series co-creator Mark Frost uses the bulk of his narrative to weave the strange history of “Twin Peaks” throughout the larger tapestry of American history and the long legacy of occult conspiracies.

One week after the election of Donald Trump, Paul Verhoeven was at the Film Society of Lincoln Center presenting “Starship Troopers,” a 1997 film that highlighted the fascist possibilities of American society. It was a connection that wasn’t lost on the provocative 77 year-old filmmaker, who the Film Society is honoring this month with a two-week retrospective.
In discussing the recent news that Sony and producer Neal H. Moritz (“Fast & Furious” franchise) were going to reboot “Starship Troopers,” Verhoeven didn’t pull any punches during a Q&A.

BBC America already has one wacky British time traveler on its schedule, but with all of time and space at your disposal, there’s surely room for one more. Enter “Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency,” a completely bonkers series based on the novels by Douglas Adams.
Created by Max Landis, the series is a sci-fi mystery with comedic sensibility and a helluva lot of storylines. Like the 2012 TV adaptation before it, “Dirk Gently” dispenses with the book’s plot — which some have proclaimed unfilmable — in favor of an original mystery. Landis’ version also dispenses with all of the book’s characters save for the titular detective himself.

Time is not on our side, especially in the era of “peak TV.” Perhaps this is why networks are hopping onto the time travel bandwagon. At this year’s network upfront presentations in May, four of the five broadcast networks plugged shows that revolved around a time travel element at their core.
Taking journeys through the fourth dimension is a concept that has appeared in fiction since the late 19th century, popularized by H.G. Wells’ novel “The Time Machine.” The continued appeal of time travel boils down to wish fulfillment: the desire to visit other eras like a tourist, the yearning to relive or change the past, the curiosity about the future and the ability to squeeze more experiences into our ephemeral lives.
Although Stephen Hawking and Carl Sagan disagree on whether time travel will someday be possible based on our apparent lack of visitors from the future, that hasn...

Mad Men fans can’t complain they’re not getting closure as it continues its parade of bittersweet goodbyes…
This review contains spoilers.
7.12 Lost Horizon
One thing’s certain about Mad Men’s last season: no-one’ll be able to say fans didn’t get closure. We’re not going to be left bereft and shocked by the sudden departure of these characters. They’re all getting their exits, and we in turn, are getting our bittersweet goodbyes.
First of all, a goodbye to the firm itself. In the space of a month, Scp had been gutted, its swish operation transformed into an uninhabited wasteland. Offices won in tooth-and-nail battles had been deserted, their victors swallowed up into the gargantuan McCann Erickson or sloughed off and discarded. Wires hung from ceilings. A violent splatter of coffee was left unmopped on the kitchen floor. The monolithic computer that was ushered in...

TNT – “We know drama” – is developing, you guessed it, a new drama series. Penned by Mick Davis (Eleventh Hour), this action-adventure series is called Wasteland and promises to be more on the supernatural side of things.
According to Variety, the show will be set in the American Southwest and “involves a U.S. marshal who is charged with hunting down the supernatural escapees on the run following a federal prison break.”
“Supernatural escapees” brings to mind the days of Reaper or Clark hunting down Phantoms in Smallville, but I’m sure as we get more details Wasteland will prove itself far different from anything over at the CW.
Wasteland will be exec produced by Davis along with Robert C. Cooper and J.J. Jamieson with Jordan Helman as co-exec producer.

The TNT Network has claimed time and time again that they know drama. That seems to be what they refer to everything as. We've watched flicks ranging from Animal House to Salem's Lot, and each time the "We Know Drama" bug pops up. Go figure. Anyway, the studio has a new supernatural series coming up that's being billed as - you guessed it - action-adventure drama. Come on, guys! Embrace the genre!
According to Variety TNT has bought a script from Mick Davis and is now in development on a project called "Wasteland."
From FremantleMedia North America and Landscape Entertainment, the show will be set in the American Southwest and will tell the tale of a U.S. marshal who is charged with hunting down supernatural escapees on the run following a federal prison break.
Davis was an exec producer and writer on CBS' Rufus Sewell starrer "Eleventh Hour," which ran for one season.

Eta for The Transporter TV series is 2012, sans Jason Statham.
Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, showrunners on the yet-to-debut Transporter television series, have left the show, according to Deadline.com. The report cites “creative differences” as the reason for their departure.
The Transporter TV series is a spin-off from the successful film franchise written and produced by Luc Besson and starring Jason Statham. Chris Vance assumes Statham’s role in the show.
The 12-episode first (and possibly only) season is being filmed in Toronto with Besson, Fred Fuchs and Robert Cooper as executive producers. Mullie, Mallozzi and Cooper previously worked together on the Stargate franchise.
Steven Shill, who was recently drafted into the backroom staff, takes over as the new showrunner. The series is expected to debut sometime in 2012. Writing about his departure on his blog, Mallozzi thanked the production team and gave his thumbs up to his successor.
