As said, it starts well initially; the production value is good, the CG isn't perfect but certainly isn't breaking anything either, it's dark and moody and pretty good at doing the whole noir thing. Well, initially that is...
Pretty soon things falls apart.. There's the action-chick ultra-stereotype character, there's the embarrassingly exaggerated and corny action scenes and effects, unbelievably dumb characters, dumb resolutions, etc, etc. So, comparing it with Buffy the Vampire Slayer is probably a fair comparison..
The Zimmerman character, although being the (also) very typical over-the-top goody-too-shoe character, does a good job. And so does the goofy relief guy, which holds a levelled profile so you never get annoyed with him. Amanda does OK as well, although she does very much the same character as in Stargate, as far as I can tell.
All in all, a very typical fit-all sci-fi/supernatural series these days, ie. dumb and unchallenging and without personality. And there's probably a WWE wrestler or two somewhere in there as well..
