Fans have mostly loved David Benioff and D. B. Weiss’ HBO series, Game of Thrones. Having said that, recently, rumors have been circulating about a potential Game of Thrones Mmorpg in the works by Nexon, the company known for the video game, The Finals.
Set in the North between Seasons 4 and 5, with Winterfell and The Wall as the main settings, the game has generated interest among fans of the well-known series. Notwithstanding, despite the hype, Nexon has not yet confirmed the existence of the game. And for some fans, it is actually causing them to become skeptical and disappointed.
The concept of a Game of Thrones Mmorpg is not new; there have previously been several games based on popular TV shows and movies. However, with a new rumored game on the horizon, fans wonder why MMORPGs are coming up with the most cringe-worthy game designs.

Robin Williams will always be remembered as one of the most prolific actors that Hollywood has ever seen. He was a one-of-a-kind performer, who stood apart with his performances, establishing himself as a comedy legend. Throughout his career, the actor has done a plethora of iconic films such as Aladdin, Good Will Hunting, Dead Poets Society, and many more.
Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society
The world remembered Williams as an outstanding performer, doing stand-up comedy, films, and TV shows. However, the Popeye actor would consider himself a gamer at heart as he was addicted to gaming, and he was a huge Cod and Counter-Strike fan. The actor would spend hours in front of the screen, as he not only found gaming to be relaxing but also quite deflating as he got humbled by an 11-year-old.

Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is one of the most-played open-world western RPGs ever released. This title is only topped by the likes of The Witcher 3 and Baldur’s Gate 3, yet the charm of this title stays intact. It cannot be stressed enough how wide a shadow this game must cast on its Mmorpg cousin, Elder Scrolls Online.
Elder Scrolls Online was launched back in 2014 to a mixed reception from both gamers as well as critics. But most of them were still playing games like Skyrim and World of Warcraft back then; hence, it made sense for them to compare it to those games. Developers knew this would happen; hence, they had already taken measures to combat this issue.

The Helldivers 2 craze, an unexpected success for Sony, continues. Well, the title achieved impressive success, selling 1 million copies within the first three days of its February launch, taking the top spot on the Steam charts.
As the game’s popularity skyrockets, so do folks’ expectations, naturally prompting the enhancement of the gaming experience through the incorporation of new features.
Helldivers 2 Will Never Feature a Transmog System, Johan Pilestedt Says Battle in Helldivers 2.
Fans persistently engage in discussions on social media about features that could be added to the game. Occasionally, notable figures, including Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Johan Pilestedt, join in these conversations, responding to fans’ suggestions. Even Eli Roth can’t believe that two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett was willing to learn to twirl guns and shoot baddies in “Borderlands,” the director’s gonzo adaptation of the popular video game.
Roth noted that since people loved seeing Blanchett wield a baton in “Tár,” where she portrayed a fictional world-famous conductor embroiled in controversy, the filmmaker said he might as well “put a flamethrower in her hand.”
In “Borderlands,” Blanchett sports a fiery red bob and is surrounded by the starry ensemble of Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jack Black and “Barbie” breakout Ariana Greenblatt. The story follows Blanchett as Lilith, an infamous outlaw with a mysterious past. She reluctantly returns to her home planet of Pandora and forms an unexpected alliance to find the missing daughter of Atlas.

Most people likely wouldn’t brush off Matt Damon if they got the chance to meet him, but Dylan and Cole Sprouse can’t say the same.
The Riverdale alum recalled on Tuesday’s episode of SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa that the twin brothers had such an obsession with the World of Warcraft video game when they were younger that they didn’t want anyone interrupting them, not even an Oscar winner.
Cole explained how they were playing the video game during set school one day when one of the production assistants notified them that Damon and his children were huge fans of their Disney Channel show The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and wanted to stop by.

While on SiriusXM’s Let’s Talk Off Camera With Kelly Ripa show, he looked back and revealed the actor that they owe an apology to.
Keep reading to find out more…
The actor in question is Matt Damon.
He explained that he and Dylan were in the classroom on set when they learned that Matt was coming. Only, they were much more into playing video games at the time.

The Xbox giant monopoly of studios behind games like World of Warcraft and Diablo is making some changes to the guidelines to make a new title. This will involve some inclusion, which is not always organic. Apparently, this will be a mandatory practice from now on.
Mark Kern, a former CEO and team lead for games like World of Warcraft and Diablo, has discovered this new “mandatory” change that Microsoft is implementing. In a post on X, he also mentioned that numerous Xbox studios are hiring the services of Sweet Baby Inc. to improve the inclusion of its games in their narratives.

Popular Voice Actor Rhiannon Moushall, who has voiced for Rise of the Ronin, called out former Blizzard Entertainment Team Lead for World of Warcraft, Mark Kern, for posting an offensive post on X. Kern posted a collage featuring female characters from several games, with a message stating that beautiful women are marginalized and unrepresented.
Moushall quote-posted, pointing out that the post sounded gross and weird. Moushall also pointed out that the collage contained a picture of an underage character. The collage itself wasn’t originally made by Kern either, as the same collage was earlier featured in a Reddit post around three years ago.

Being a pro wrestler in recent years might lead one to assume that it is this profession now that would make Logan Paul familiar with near-fatal concussions. However, it turns out he had an incredibly frightening experience in the past when he was just 12 years old. And the story of how he survived that accident is still beyond him. At the age of 12, Logan Paul endured a concussion that nearly cost him his life when he attempted to jump into a pool with a trampoline, in a typical 12-year-old kid fashion.

Vrmmo-themed anime have existed for quite some time. The Shangri-La Frontier’s anime adaptation is another addition to this subgenre, but right from the beginning, it’s clear that its focus is not on the “Mmo” part of the game. Unlike anime series like Log Horizon that show the daily lives of players, Shangri-La Frontier focuses on the protagonist Sunraku (who's a fan of ultra-difficult and broken games) purposely heading toward each seemingly impossible challenge. With monsters and obstacles that live up to the Vrmmo's praise among its players, Sunraku feels at home as he continues to challenge himself in this brave new world. Related: Can You Become a Trash Hunter in Shangri-La Frontier? Sunraku's behavior, and the biggest appeal of Shangri-La Frontier in my opinion, is something easily seen in players of Soulslike games. Centering a game review around comparisons to other releases can feel, at best, kind of lazy and, at worst, downright unfair. After all, even when titles do share particular traits, stylistic touchstones or behind-the-scenes talent, they’re often aiming for completely different things.
As a general rule of thumb, unless you are dealing with a blatant rip-off in the vein of The Day Before, it’s usually best to judge each work of art on its own terms. However, this is sometimes easier said than done, as certain games have become so massively influential in their respective arenas — at times codifying entire genres — that they end up being the proverbial elephant in the room whenever you’re evaluating a similar work. Take World of Warcraft, Grand Theft Auto or Dark Souls for instance.

In a move to circumvent legal constraints, Blizzard is reportedly setting up the Chinese version of World of Warcraft on South Korean servers. This intel comes from X user Nico_oq who has been a prominent source for news regarding Blizzard Entertainment games in Asia.
According to Nico’s X post, “a certain company” is setting up servers in Korea to lease Blizzard the operating rights for catering to the Chinese player base. The servers are reportedly being set up in such a way that Chinese players will be able to play with each other without mixing with the Korean player base. However, this may result in a slightly higher ping since the servers will be physically based in South Korea.

Diablo 4 Will Still Be Unavailable on One Key Xbox Service Thanks to Activision Blizzard and Ubisoft
Xbox recently held the Official Xbox Podcast’s special edition, addressing all the rumors and leaks regarding it going third-party and exiting the hardware market. It revealed that four unnamed exclusive titles will be going to other platforms. But it was added that games like Starfield and Indiana Jones will remain exclusive to the platform, contrary to what the leaks stated.
One other major announcement was made during the podcast: Blizzard’s Diablo 4 will be joining Game Pass next month as the company looks to bring more games to more players. However, despite this, the game will still not join a key Xbox service due to terms set during Microsoft’s billion-dollar acquisition of Activision-Blizzard King.

The seventy-billion-dollar deal between Xbox and Activision Blizzard will always be remembered as one of the biggest gaming acquisitions of all time. Although this deal has brought some adversities with it, like the huge layoffs at Microsoft, the great outcomes were just a matter of time. The most recent example has to be Diablo 4. This action RPG from Blizzard Entertainment is now coming to Xbox and PC Game Pass. However, there is a catch.
Those who have subscribed to Xbox Game Pass Core will not be able to enjoy the dungeon-crawling action of Diablo 4. That means fans have to upgrade their subscription tiers to gain access to this game for free. Let’s know more about the scenario.

Xbox head of the brand and CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer’s comments in the latest Xbox Direct confirm the company is one of the largest multi-platform game publishers. He stressed on the fact that games published by Microsoft are available across other gaming platforms like PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile gaming devices.
In a bid to reverse the recent run of tough luck for the company, going multi-platform was a business decision keeping in mind the future of Xbox. It is also an attempt on Microsoft’s behalf to build, what Phil Spencer calls, a “healthy player community, healthy creator community, and healthy business“.
Mr. Spencer also pointed out that the games are not a means to increase the Xbox console’s popularity. It is the other way around as the company wants to create a healthy environment for gamers by providing them with a platform to reach...

Otk stayed active in the streaming world in 2023, and its 2024 slate looks to be even more jam-packed. At a shareholders’ meeting streamed on Twitch, the group led by members like Tips Out, Asmongold, Emiru, and Sodapoppin announced a new signee and a slew of upcoming programs.
Though Otk defines its annual update as a shareholders’ meeting, it is not publicly traded, and the event is more like an upfronts pitch than an earnings call. In a broadcast hosted by founding member Esfand, Otk announced the return of popular shows like Creator Cafe, Otk Gameday, and the World of Warcraft tournament Otk Hardcore Mak’Gora. Those stalwarts will be joined by new Otk originals like Pixel Pitch, which is a gaming-oriented spin on Shark Tank.

For Mats Steen, a Norwegian gamer who suffered from a degenerative muscular disease, his time spent playing World of Warcraft gave him a powerful way to connect with a community of like-minded people. He was able to form deep friendships across vast distances despite his physical disability because of a passion and pastime that he kept hidden from his family. Steen passed away at the age of 25, and his parents thought his disease had kept him isolated — but in reality, he’d been an integral and beloved part of a digital community that loudly mourned his passing.
Ibelin, a documentary by filmmaker Benjamin Ree, takes a posthumous deep dive into Steen’s digital life, interviewing his best friends and competitors and plumbing Steen’s own archives. The film, which recently premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, will soon be streaming on Netflix. “It’s a huge honor that Ibelin will...

When Colossal Biosciences launched in 2021 with a splashy New York Times article stating it aimed to to resurrect the Wooly Mammoth, the company’s goals drew comparisons to entertainment properties like Jurassic Park. Now Colossal, described as the world’s first de-extinction company, is making steps to enter the entertainment space with the hire of veteran executive Emily Castel as its chief marketing officer.
In the new role, Castel will lead the company’s brand, experiences, consumer products and emerging media, which would include entertainment content.
Castel has close ties with Thomas Tull, the Legendary Entertainment founder who is among the backers of Colossal. She served as chief marketing officer at Legendary from 2013-17, working with the studio’s distribution partners Warner Bros. and Universal on titles such as Pacific Rim, Godzilla, Jurassic World, Warcraft and Kong: Skull Island. Rob Peace and Ibelin premiered at Sundance, showcasing stories about two exceptional individuals with tragic stories.
As far as entries at Sundance, both of these titles were impactful in their own ways.
Ibelin is an uplifting story about a person with limitations who finds his true self in an unlikely realm.
In comparison, Rob Peace is a cautionary tale about making the right decisions.
Should readers see these films?
Here are our capsule reviews of Rob Peace and Ibelin out of Sundance 2024.

Sundance documentaries are alive and well. And it looks like there’s some acquisition action this year, too. Which Sundance documentaries have the best shot at landing in Oscar contention this year? It helps to get bought early or to have an international footprint.
A rickety theatrical market for non-fiction features and a dwindling number of active documentary buyers meant that many Sundance 2023 films did not get picked up for distribution, or met serious delays before companies came through. As the top American film festival for docs, Sundance usually supplies as many as four out of the final five Oscar nominees each year.
And usually, by late summer, Oscar promotion is well underway. But last year, “Going to Mars: The Nikki Giovanni Project,” which was rumored to be an HBO Documentary Films pickup for months, wasn’t announced until August 29, when other Sundance grads had been campaigning all summer.

Microsoft reported second-quarter earnings that were boosted in part by its acquisition of game maker Activision Blizzard.
Total Xbox content and services revenue increased 61 percent year-over-year thanks to the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and total gaming revenue increased 49 percent. Total revenue for More Personal Computing, the segment that includes the financials from Activision Blizzard, was $16.9 billion, up 19 percent. The company set all-time records for monthly active users on Xbox, PC and mobile, which now more than 200 million monthly active users, including Activision Blizzard King.
As of the second quarter, the net impact from Activision on Microsoft included $2 billion in revenue, however, the cost of revenue totaled $930 million and operating expenses total $1.59 billion, leading to an operating loss of $440 million. Next quarter, the company said it expects Activision Blizzard to continue driving revenue growth and for the unit to be accretive to its operating income for the full year, when excluding certain costs.

As a gamer for most of my life, and a computer nerd, and a big-time web geek, I've always been considerably aware of how important digital connections can be. These kind of connections have been a major part of my life already for most of my life - and will continue to be. It's rare that I ever come across a film that depicts this important truth in an earnest and accurate way that isn't cheesy or saccharine. The documentary film Ibelin breaks out of those conventions to tell an emotional story about how meaningful online relationships are. Norwegian documentary filmmaker Benjamin Ree's latest film premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it won an Audience Award as well as the Directing Award in the World Cinema Documentary section. There is no one who will watch this and not be emotionally affected, with tears in their eyes, at this...

Benjamin Ree’s Ibelin relates a heartbreaking story in its first 10 minutes. Mats Steen, a young boy from Norway, lived a mostly happy life until being diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a genetic disorder that prevents muscles from working correctly. He would grow up solitary and confined to a wheelchair, with his computer the only connection to the world outside his home, before eventually passing away at 25. Mats’s parents, Robert and Trude, mourn the life that their son never got to have, but it’s not until they gain access to his computer and use his blog to announce his passing that they realize their son had an online life they never knew, all stemming from his dedication to World of Warcraft.
There are people for whom what happens in the subsequent 90 minutes of the documentary will come as a surprise, and Ree plays it like it is, but...

Duncan Jones made an incredible debut with his Sam Rockwell-starring sci-fi, Moon. However, his follow-ups haven’t collected as much acclaim with the Groundhog Day-on-a-train thriller Source Code, his step into the big-budget franchise world with Warcraft, and his high-concept Netflix sci-fi, Mute. For years, Jones has been developing an adaptation of the comic Rogue Trooper, which is to be an animated feature. The production has been rolling along, and Variety has revealed the cast of actors that Jones has been able to compile for the film.

It’s now been more than two decades since Sega exited the hardware business, but gamers who were around back then still fondly remember the days when Sega did what Nintendon’t. The Sega Genesis wasn’t just the console that introduced the world to Sonic the Hedgehog, it was also home to a deep library of action titles, sports games, and high-quality arcade ports.
And while a lot of the console’s best games have been re-released in various forms over the years, it’s still home to plenty of great titles that haven’t seen a proper update or new title in the series. To be fair, a few of these games have seen sequels, but if even those games were released decades ago, we think it’s time for another one, especially with Sega recently announcing plans to bring back a few classic franchises. Microsoft has laid off around 1,900 employees at Activision Blizzard and Xbox after the software and technology giant recently acquired the Call of Duty and Diablo video game publisher, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Microsoft closed the $68.7 billion deal for Activision Blizzard in October 2023, and has now shed around 8 percent of the overall Microsoft Gaming workforce, which stands at around 22,000 employees. The next steps for Microsoft included combining the merged companies’ operations, including cutting jobs in overlapping areas as part of the evolution of its gaming arm.
“Together, we’ve set priorities, identified areas of overlap, and ensured that we’re all aligned on the best opportunities for growth,” Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said in an internal memo seen by THR.

A Look at Video Game Movie Adaptations With Highest Box Office Success (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Video game movie adaptations, especially video games with large fanbases, have always been a touchy subject. The ‘physics’ of video games is different; translating all that action and storyline into a film is not the most straightforward task, and when you factor in the expectations of an entire fanbase — the whole ordeal becomes downright daunting. Luckily, video game adaptations have taken off in the past decade, especially on TV in 2023 — and quite successfully! Their box office numbers prove that.
But, as mentioned above, these movies are brutal, considering their more fantastical elements and ‘animation.’ The latest addition anticipated for success in this category is the upcoming Minecraft, scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025.
Minecraft has a star-studded cast, including Jason Momoa, Matt Berry, Danielle Brooks, and possibly Jack Black. Let’s just wait and see how it pans out.

Robert and Trude Steen were astonished that their 25-year-old son Mats had another life after he passed away from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Despite Mats, who used a wheelchair and had few in-person social outings, appearing lonely amidst playing World of Warcraft for about 15,000 hours in his last ten years, his parents soon discovered he was popular in this virtual world. Gamers knew him for his avatar, Lord Ibelin Redmoore, and devotedly read his blog Musings of Life. These events inspired filmmaker Benjamin Ree (The Painter and the Thief), a Steens family friend who read Mats’ journey on the BBC, to visualize this story.
Ibelin thoroughly traces Mats’ existence with talking-head interviews, family home footage, original animations of Warcraft characters, a narrator reading his posts, his handwritten video game dialogue, and a mix of animation movements and character descriptions. These techniques allow Ree to symphonically center the subject without relegating family and peers to representatives.

Between fascist propaganda, harassment campaigns, AI-generated Google results, and the collapse of digital publishing, it’s hard not to think of the internet as a wasteland. “Ibelin,” however, is a defining film about the positive side of the modern web experience, and connections forged online.
Directed by “The Painter and the Thief” helmer Benjamin Ree, the documentary marries form with function in stunning fashion, bringing to life the sprawling digital identity of its subject Mats Steen — a quadriplegic gamer who died at 25 from a degenerative disease — via his personal blog and his World of Warcraft campaigns. The resultant film is a moving, multifaceted masterwork that doubles as a cinematic epitaph to a vibrant (if secretive) young man.
Using thoughtfully engineered animation, “Ibelin” explores not only Mats’ complications, but a lifetime of personal experiences that remained a secret from his parents until they began grieving him. Though they believed him to be isolated and lonely,...

Benjamin Ree’s Ibelin tells a sad and inspiring story on a level that can be summarized in two sentences.
That doesn’t make it less sad or less inspiring, and it doesn’t make its core message any less important. But if you’re already aware that the virtual spaces created by networked gaming are, indeed, valid and even valuable ways of forging social relationships, there isn’t much additional insight.
Are there still people who think that networked games are just games, and that a guild of pixelated players has no ties in real life? Of course. It’s just hard to imagine that audience wanting a documentary to teach them — much less at Sundance, where similar topics are bog standard, and especially not with the excessively straightforward, if sometimes slightly (but not hugely) visually innovative, approach that Ree takes to Mats Steen’s story.

In “Ibelin” Norwegian filmmaker Benjamin Ree focuses on Mats Steen, a Norwegian gamer who died in 2014 of a degenerative muscular disease at age 25. Ree, who as a child was family friends with the Steen family, conceived of the project after reading a 2019 BBC article. The piece explains that after Mats’ death his parents discovered that they were all wrong about their son’s social life. Instead of a lonely, isolated existence in a wheelchair, they found out that Mats had been leading a vibrant digital life as Lord Ibelin Redmoore, an avatar, in the popular video game “World of Warcraft.” After his death, people from all over Europe, who had never physically met Mats, sent his parents condolence letters expressing how their son had profoundly impacted their lives.
Variety spoke with Ree ahead of the Sundance world premiere of “Ibelin” on Jan. 18.

Elon Musk’s X/Twitter is back up after going down tonight all over the world.
The usually reactive owner of the struggling social media platform hasn’t said anything about what happened or why, but for users it was certainly like someone pulled the plug for nearly an hour late Wednesday.
Detected by Downdector just before 10 pm Pt, the site went almost dormant with no feeds, no posts, and not much of anything expect the likes of #MyTwitter, #NotTwitter, Did Elon, and #TwitterDown trending. Jumping on the site or app, most X/Twitter users saw this late tonight:
Clicking that “Let’s Go” didn’t really take users anywhere.
At around 11 pm Pt, the platform appeared to be functioning normally (as normal as normal can be for X/Twitter of late). Again, no explanation of what happened from either X or Musk – at least not yet. Though the sentiment...

Bobby Kotick, the longtime CEO of Activision Blizzard, is stepping down Dec. 29 following the company’s drawn-out $69 billion sale to Microsoft that closed in October. The exec — who oversaw some of the industry’s most popular games from Pitfall to Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, Overwatch, Candy Crush Saga and Farm Heroes Saga — had said previously he would stay on through the end of 2023.
“I’d like to thank Bobby—for his invaluable contributions to this industry, his partnership in closing the Activision Blizzard acquisition and his collaboration following the close—and I wish him and his family the very best in his next chapter,” Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer wrote in a memo Wednesday where he confirmed Kotick’s exit date, according to press reports.
“I’ve long admired the work of Activision, Blizzard, and King, and the impact they’ve had on gaming, entertainment, and pop culture.
