Annie Murphy's career on screen began in the mid-2000s, and since her breakout role in the beloved sitcom "Schitt's Creek," she has had a number of notable roles in film and TV. The actor made her TV debut in the 2007 television film "Lethal Obsession" and went on to have supporting roles in both Canadian and American works, including "Blue Mountain State" and "Rookie Blue."
By the early 2010s, her acting career began to plateau, and Murphy's work was inconsistent. It wasn't until 2013, when she auditioned for the role of Alexis Rose in "Schitt's Creek," that her career really took off. In a 2020 interview on "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Murphy explained, "Just before 'Schitt's Creek,' things were quite bleak. My house had just burnt down. I had like $3 in my bank account. I hadn't worked in close to two years. And I had just blown my...

“Schitt’s Creek” star Annie Murphy is finally getting the chance to dust off her iconic Alexis Rose voice for Freeform’s new cult-centric adult animated series “Praise Petey.”
“Petey came to me entirely perfectly developed, so I just really had to throw my voice in there, and you had a fully formed character,” Murphy told TheWrap. “I got to take my Alexis voice out of the closet again, and I’ve been missing it.”
“Praise Petey,” which premieres Friday, follows the misadventures of “It Girl” Petey St. Barts, whose crumbling life — characterized by her plank of wood boyfriend cheating on her — takes a turn for the better before she receives an intriguing present from her deceased father: He’s handed over the reins of his small-town cult to her.

If you’ve seen the trailers for the Barbie movie, you might have noticed that Mattel has signed off on being portrayed as antagonists, with Will Ferrell playing the company's raging CEO. In the recent fourth and final season of Barry, Warner Bros. appear, determined to make a movie about the hitman-slash-actor’s life story. And it seems there’s a mini-trend afoot of companies allowing themselves to be sent up in their own projects, since Charlie Brooker has also managed to get Netflix_, ‘Joan Is Awful’.
The episode revolves around the ordinary character of Joan (Annie Murphy), who becomes aware that her life is the subject of a streaming series in which she’s played by Salma Hayek, when she stumbles across it on Netflix-esque streaming platform, 'Streamberry'. You’d think Brooker would have faced some pushback from the streamer about it – but apparently, that wasn’t the case.

Los Angeles, April 30 (Ians) ‘Schitt’s Creek’ star Annie Murphy was once labelled as a cheap version of Margot Robbie.
The 36-year-old actress, who portrayed Alexis Rose in the CBC sitcom, has shared a troll who compared her to the bombshell Aussie actress if she was bought on the budget store Wish.
“I was told by a man on the internet that I look like Margot Robbie if she was ordered from Wish.com,” she told Us Weekly magazine, reports aceshowbiz.com.
What’s more, she’s often been stopped by fans of the show on the street who tell her she looks like the actress that plays Alexis. She said, “The most common things fans ask me is, ‘Has anyone told you that you kind of look like that girl from Schitt’s Creek?'”
The Emmy-winning star also said she has Hollywood actress Kate Winslet’s phone number.

It’s safe to say that Annie Murphy was in a bad way just before she joined the Schitt’s Creek cast. She hadn’t worked in years, had completely blown a big audition, and had just a few dollars to her name. To make matters worse, she was dealing with the emotional trauma of her house burning down. The actor was seriously considering calling it quits when fate stepped in and dealt her a lucky hand. Playing Alexis Rose has completely changed the course of Murphy’s life. But what’s next for the actor? Hopefully, a career that resembles that of Tom Hanks’.

Eugene Levy starred in Schitt’s Creek for six seasons with the show wrapping up in 2020. After almost three years since the show’s finale, some fans have not lost hope of a possible revival.
Levy, who co-created the sitcom with his co-star son Dan Levy, recently said to “never say never” about revisiting the Rose family.
“I know my son Daniel has said this, we’d love to get together with these people again and take the show and the characters to yet another level,” Levy told Radio Times.
He continued, “There’s nothing in the works right now to be honest, but you know, we’ve never stopped thinking about what might happen down the line. We’re certainly open to anything, I think when the idea that is the right idea presents itself we’ll probably act on, I guess.”

Tim Rozon’s Mutt was a pivotal character in the first few seasons of the Rose family’s new life, but Mutt disappeared abruptly in the middle of Schitt’s Creek. Mutt is the son of Schitt’s Creek’s Mayor, Roland Schitt (Chris Elliott), and local high school teacher Jocelyn Schitt (Jennifer Robertson). However, it’s his relationship with the formerly wealthy socialite, Alexis Rose (Annie Murphy), that plays such a big role in the show. The character almost invites the women in his life to hide their relationships with him, his own mother included. However, the person who tries the hardest to hide her

At some point, you’ve probably made fun of one of those cheesy sitcoms about an oafish man with a beautiful, impossibly patient wife. That’s because those kinds of sitcoms have been around for our entire lives, going back practically to the start of television itself. Some of these shows have been great (The Honeymooners), some have been fine (Still Standing), and some have been According to Jim. They are, like cop shows, one of TV’s most renewable resources, enduring perhaps because viewers see more of themselves than...

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton may have been the inspiration behind Alexis Rose's T-rex-like hand gesture and vocal fry on Schitt's Creek, but the freelance brand invigorator's iconic "boops" can be solely credited to Annie Murphy. As it turns out, the habit was born from Murphy's on-set hijinks with her costar and real-life pal Dan Levy.

Twenty years ago, Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods burst onto our screens with her infectious can-do attitude and an early-2000s penchant for all things pink and fuzzy, from her jacket to her phone. Reese Witherspoon’s iconic sorority sister who goes to Harvard Law School in pursuit of an ex-boyfriend—dressed in head-to-toe pink, carrying a copy of the Bible—didn’t jive with the era’s conception of a Strong Female Character, a la Trinity from The Matrix, Sarah Connor from the Terminator movies, or Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider franchise. Elle derives her strength from what many would deem her traditionally feminine character traits and pursuits, not in spite of them, like her undergraduate study of fashion and her focus on loyalty and cooperation rather than competition. While some fall for the trap of associating masculinity with strength and intelligence and femininity with conservatism and vapidity,...

She had to wait until the final season of “Schitt’s Creek,” but Annie Murphy finally scored her first individual SAG Award nomination. Her portrayal of Alexis Rose on the Pop TV comedy won over viewers thanks to her pitch perfect send-up of vapid Hollywood socialites. Murphy has already collected an Emmy Award for her performance in the farewell season, and SAG voters could provide her with one final triumph on the “Schitt’s Creek” victory lap.
At the upcoming ceremony, Murphy is nominated for Best TV Comedy Actress alongside Christina Applegate, Linda Cardellini (both of “Dead to Me”), Kaley Cuoco (“The Flight Attendant”) and her TV mom Catherine O’Hara (“Schitt’s Creek”). All of these women are also nominated in Comedy Ensemble, which Murphy was cited in last year as well. Despite racking up previous SAG nominations, none of these nominees has ever won with the acting guild.

Annie Murphy is going from Schitt’s Creek to downtown Manhattan after being cast in the second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll.
The actor recently won an Emmy for her role as Alexis Rose in the Canadian comedy. No details of her character, but given the show, imagine it will be weird. Production recently started.
Murphy is also starring in AMC’s Kevin Can F*ck Himself, which is expected to premiere this summer.
Russian Doll, which first aired on the streamer in February 2019 and was renewed for a second season in June 2019, was created and executive produced by Natasha Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland.
The first season followed a young woman named Nadia, played by Lyonne, who repeatedly dies during a New York party that seems never to end thanks to an edgy, mordant update of Groundhog Day‘s premise. Greta Lee, Yul Vazquez, Elizabeth Ashley and Charlie Barnett also starred.

Alexis Rose and Stevie Budd may not have much in common on Schitt's Creek, but Irl, the actresses who play them couldn't be closer. For five years and six seasons, Annie Murphy and Emily Hampshire spent endless hours together on set, and judging from all their cute pics together on social media, the two have forged a bond for life. It's a beautiful friendship that almost never happened because - as Annie revealed to Vulture during an April 2018 interview - she originally auditioned to play Stevie but knew she could never pull off the role once she saw Emily perform. "I don't want to live in a world where Emily doesn't play Stevie!" Annie added. And we don't want to live in a world where these two aren't besties. Check out the gallery for their cutest Bff pics of all time.

Though the two tend to keep their romance and their private lives on the Dl (save for some goofy couple's selfies on Ig), here's everything we know about the Canadian singer who stole Annie's heart over a decade ago.

Alexis Rose would only have one reaction to this news: "Ew, David!" Less than a month after Schitt's Creek swept the 2020 Emmys with an impressive nine wins, co-creator and star Dan Levy clapped back to an unfortunate update: His beloved show is being censored in another country. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Levy took to Twitter to express concern over the fact that Comedy Central India chose to edit out a same-sex kiss that's central to a storyline, just one of the many reasons why the show has been championed as an accelerator of LGBTQ+ representation. "You showed the kiss between two women, you showed the kiss between a woman and a man, then removed the kiss between two men? This is a...

Update: Although Netflix said that the sixth and final season of Schitt's Creek would be available to stream in the US and Canada on Oct. 7, the streaming giant surprised fans by releasing the installment four days early on Oct. 3! The documentary Best Wishes, Warmest Regards: A Schitt's Creek Farewell also dropped on the same day, so we've got some binging to do. Dan Levy shared the news on Twitter, writing, "Surprise! Season 6 & the Best Wishes, Warmest Regards documentary just dropped early on @netflix @Netflix_CA! Have a great weekend!"
Original post: We're only a couple months out from the TV premiere of Schitt's Creek's final season, but when will season six arrive on Netflix? The beloved sitcom took off exponentially thanks to its growing popularity on Netflix, but for fans who watch the comedy solely on streaming, they'll have to wait a little longer for that final batch of episodes.

With Emmy nominations just days away, Gold Derby’s 31 Experts are furiously updating their predictions. Their latest odds for Best Comedy Supporting Actress are in and the news is somewhat mixed for Annie Murphy (“Schitt’s Creek”). Sure, she’s still predicted to receive her first career Emmy nomination, but she can’t seem to eke past the two front-runners to win: Alex Borstein (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) and Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live”). As Murphy’s alter ego Alexis Rose might squeal, “Ew, David.”

“Saturday Night Live” Season 45 may have been forced to shut down early due to the coronavirus pandemic, but that won’t stop Kate McKinnon from taking home her third career Emmy Award. Four of Gold Derby’s 31 Experts predict McKinnon will win Best Comedy Supporting Actress at the 2020 Emmys: Thelma Adams (Gold Derby), Lynette Rice (Ent. Weekly), Jazz Tangcay (Variety) and Ken Tucker (Yahoo). That’s good enough for second place on our odds chart, behind only Alex Borstein (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), someone who’s also looking to add a third trophy in this category.

It’s bittersweet to see the Rose family take their bows in the series finale of Schitt’s Creek, mostly because co-creator and showrunner Dan Levy ended the story on his own terms. As he told Variety, following their two-year renewal at the end of season 4, he started plotting out the ending: “I at no point wanted to compromise on quality or storytelling. It just didn’t feel like it was worth the risk to take it any further.”
It’s an admirable route, similar to how Michael Shur wrapped up The Good Place, but it means we have to say goodbye to one of TV’s greatest families: prickly and warm, ribbing each other as often as they support one another, the Roses were a class act. The series also introduced viewers to most of the cast—barring legendary character actors Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara—who were formerly unknowns.

[Editor’s Note: This review contains spoilers for the “Schitt’s Creek” series finale, “Happy Ending.”]
Since 2015, “Schitt’s Creek” has been one of the most charming shows on television. While that may not sound like strong praise in terms of genuine quality humor — instead, perhaps, it sounds like acknowledgment that the show is just as Canadian as its creators and cast — it absolutely is, because the series’ ability to be effortlessly charming also revealed that a show can be warm and good-hearted without being sappy or lacking edge in its humor.

When “Schitt’s Creek” first premiered, it certainly had something to draw viewers in: the sophisticated ignorance that defined — and then continued to define — the newly broke Rose family. But its potential was mostly predicated on just how much unexpected charm it had.

Over the six seasons of “Schitt’s Creek,” one character has arguably changed more than any other: Annie Murphy’s Alexis Rose.
When the Rose family landed in the small town they once purchased as a joke, Alexis had already dated a Saudi prince, a Sultan’s nephew, Leonardo DiCaprio, Prince Harry and all three Hanson brothers; she had been held hostage, arrested, and had learned to play pool in order to free a kidnapped friend from a “Ugandan diamond smuggler’s villa.”
By the series’ end, Alexis has evolved into an ambitious career woman, a loyal sister and daughter, someone who has experienced love and its loss. For fans, Alexis’s arc — played hilariously and soulfully by Murphy — has been one of the show’s greatest pleasures.
Murphy — who grew up in Ottawa and moved to Toronto after university — had lived through a number of career frustrations when she was cast as Alexis.

Annie Murphy remembers exactly where she was when her life changed. It all started when her phone lit up with the name "Eugene Levy." Three weeks before receiving that call, she had auditioned for the roles of Alexis Rose and Stevie Budd on Schitt's Creek. As the days turned into weeks with still no word, Murphy said she was sure "that ship had sailed"—it didn't help matters that she was already pretty down on her luck and doubting her choices. Then her phone rang, and she reacted in an unexpected way: "I was so scared that I didn't pick up the phone," Murphy told E! News. "I finally mustered up the courage to call back and it was Dan [Levy] on the other...

Fresh off six seasons as Schitt’s Creek’s fabulously evolving Alexis Rose, Annie Murphy is gearing up for a new TV comedy that also almost, but not quite, has a swear in its title. It looks to break television convention and ask what the world looks like through her eyes.
