Will Sharpe and Ayo Edebiri are set to lead a new AppleTV+ rom-com, Prodigies.
Written and directed by Sharpe of The White Lotus and A Real Pain fame, the seven-part series also boasts Edebiri (The Bear) as an executive producer.
From Sister, the rom-com will explore the universal complexities of long-term relationships through the lens of “a very unique couple”.
“Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe) are two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children,” a plot synopsis reads. “Now in their early 30s, they are starting to question whether their very ordinary existence is living up to the extraordinary promise of their childhood. Inevitably, they find themselves asking the same questions of their relationship. As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together.

Since 2012, with its first theatrical release, A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, A24 has been hooking audiences with a distinct style emphasizing unbridled creativity. Many A24 films earn an R-rating, allowing filmmakers to push the boundaries with taboo subjects, steering away from the fear of studio interference if a film isn't seen as particularly palatable for general audiences.
With so many R-rated films, it's hard to narrow down the best of the best, as each A24 film is unique in presentation and structure, even if it's from the same director. From bone-chilling horror movies to gripping dramas, these R-rated A24 flicks exhibit true artistry and an extensive knowledge of the craft of filmmaking that's difficult to achieve.

Director Mimi Cave made a big splash on the scene with her feature debut, Fresh, and her second feature, Holland, is another stylish genre picture. Like her previous film, Holland proves that Cave is an exciting director who doesn’t always get the best scripts. However, Holland has enough strong elements that it manages to overcome some of the more underwhelming aspects of its narrative.

Holland follows a woman (Nicole Kidman) living a seemingly idyllic life in small-town Michigan as she begins to suspect that her husband (Matthew Macfadyen) harbors a secret, causing her to investigate the truth with the help of a friend (Gael Garcia Bernal). After the erotic drama Baby Girl, Nicole Kidman continues her divisive streak with a certified Rotten thriller. Kidman began acting in the 1980s with Australian films like the action-comedy BMX Bandits and the critically acclaimed Dead Calm before achieving international stardom. Her Hollywood breakthrough came in 1990 when she starred opposite Tom Cruise in the NASCAR love-story Days of Thunder, spawning a variety of leading performances from Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut to the black comedy To Die For.
In the early 2000s, Nicole Kidman's performances continued with back-to-back Oscar-nominated roles from Moulin Rouge! to The Hours, the latter scoring the actor her first Best Actress win with her portrayal of Virginia Woolf. In 2017, she delivered her first Emmy-winning performance in HBO’s drama series Big Little Lies. Mimi Cave's Dutch-obsessed thriller Holland assumes you've never seen Fargo, the movies that inspired Fargo, any Fargo knockoff, or a solitary small-town murder mystery. It's excruciatingly boring and at no point unexpected. Clogs and windmills aren't idiosyncratic lifesavers when your movie boasts no voice, strikes no mood, or achieves no captivation. Andrew Sodorski's screenplay topped the 2013 Blacklist, and Cave's prior cannibal derangement Fresh is a savory hoot, but neither accomplishment shines through this dead-on-arrival Coen Brothers wannabe.

The comedy marketplace is coming off a tough year with few buys and even fewer greenlights as the number of networks and platforms focused on comedy fare shrunk further with Amazon Freevee’s shutdown after Comedy Central, TBS, TruTV and IFC had all gotten out of the live-action scripted comedy business over the last couple of years. The broadcast networks produce a fraction of the comedy output they had just a decade ago, and streamers prioritize noisy dramas over comedies in pursuit of subscriber acquisition and retention.

Nancy Vandergroot (Nicole Kidman), the dewy-eyed protagonist of Mimi Cave’s sophomore feature Holland, has a tendency to somersault to conclusions. At the start of this stylish but plodding film, which premiered at SXSW ahead of its March 27 release on Prime Video, the suburban mother loses a pearl earring. Her husband Fred (a chilling Matthew Macfadyen) suggests she check her junk drawer or the jars housing her craft supplies. Nancy, convinced of her own theories, accuses her son’s tutor, Candy (Rachel Sennott), of theft and promptly fires the befuddled high-school student.
This is a clever introduction to Nancy because later, when she conscripts her friend Dave (Gael García Bernal) to help her investigate whether or not Fred is having an affair, you can’t help but wonder if Nancy might be jumping to conclusions again. Of course anyone familiar with Cave, whose directorial debut Fresh established her as a filmmaker to watch,...

As Nicole Kidman continues her mission to champion female directors, her latest role in writer-director Mimi Cave’s Holland is proof positive of that very talent.
The Midwestern mystery stars the Oscar-winning actress as Nancy Vandergroot, a home economics teacher who feels so perfectly safe with her husband Fred (Matthew Macfadyen) and their son Harry (Jude Hill) in the picturesque Dutch-themed town of Holland, Michigan, that she idly wonders if it’s even real. But a missing pearl earring sends her down a conspiracy rabbit hole, which is only made deeper by her shop-teacher co-worker Dave Delgado (Gael García Bernal), who has eyes for her, humoring her every whim.
Set in the aughts, the film is stacked with references to Blockbuster, Juggalos and Nokia cell phones, as well as a microfiche murder mystery montage. The familiar atmosphere of a time not so far removed also evokes the false safety of...

The 97th Academy Awards was a joyous affair, full of big orchestral numbers, celebrity singalongs and a triumphant hosting debut from Conan O’Brien. While “Anora” led the night with five wins, there were several snubs and surprises. Check out our list of the biggest unexpected moments below.

Demi Moore’s brave performance in “The Substance” seemed like it was a shoo-in for the best actress statue, given her redemption arc throughout award season and wins at the Globes, SAGs and Critics Choice Awards. Surprise: Mikey Madison wins over award season darling Demi Moore
Demi Moore’s brave performance in “The Substance” seemed like it was a shoo-in for the best actress statue, given her redemption arc throughout award season and wins at the Globes, SAGs and Critics Choice Awards. In her own final Oscar picks, Anne Thompson also has “El Mal” from the Jacques Audiard movie winning Best Original Song.

Fresh off the success of her A24 hit Babygirl, Nicole Kidman is back at it again in Holland, the new thriller from director Mimi Cave (Fresh) and writer Andrew Sodroski (Manhunt) that's set to hit Prime Video on March 27, 2025. Also starring Gael García Bernal and Matthew Macfadyen, the new trailer for the film was just released by the streaming service (seen below) and showcases how Kidman's seemingly perfect life gets upended when she suspects her husband of living a double life.
Giving off a very The Stepford Wives vibe – which starred Kidman in the 2004 adaptation of Ira Levin's novel – the Holland trailer begins with a voiceover from the star as we see images of the picturesque town of Holland, Michigan. "Every day, I get to wake up in the best place on Earth," Kidman says. We're then treated to images of beautiful tulip gardens and her all-American family before she continues.

Nicole Kidman starred in Frank Oz’s version of The Stepford Wives in 2004, so it’s understandable why she wouldn’t tolerate living another picture-perfect life that rots from the inside out. It’s taken years of development, but a trailer for Kidman’s new Hitchcokian thriller, Holland, is here. The film finds Kidman’s character, Nancy Vandergroot, living a cookie-cutter lifestyle as a school teacher in Holland, Michigan, where quaint interactions, dancing, and frivolity reign. However, it is not as it seems after Nancy uncovers a dark secret that threatens the safety of her routine lifestyle.
The plot for Holland is a wild one. It “involves secrets that lurk beneath a Midwestern town with a Hitchcock bent.” According to the film’s description, a dark secret causes Nancy’s life in Holland, Michigan, to unravel. “It may seem like we have everything together, but right under that surface, it...

This week marks the 50th anniversary celebration of Saturday Night Live (or SNL as it is more colloquially known). In its half-century of running, SNL has become a comedic institution unmatched in television history. Conceived by Lorne Michaels, the visionary who still helms the show to this day, SNL follows an iconic structure that consists of a celebrity host (and monologue),a musical guest, sketches performed by a principal cast, a weekend update news segment, and, always, the declaration of the iconic, "live from New York it's Saturday Night."
A vast number of industry legends have gotten their start on SNL, including the likes of Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler, Julia Louis Dreyfus, Adam Sandler, Tina Fey, and Mike Myers. However, few people know the truth behind SNL's chaotic origins in 1975, or how close the beloved show was to failing to exist at all. Luckily, this is the...

Dylan O'Brien's breakout role was Stiles Stilinski in the MTV supernatural teen series Teen Wolf, but since the show's ending, he has established himself as a successful actor. He's had his own dystopian trilogy, The Maze Runner, starred in the two-time Oscar-nominated film Deepwater Horizon, and his latest roles have cemented him as a very successful star.

Perhaps that is the point, although the film often edges close to something fascinating only to backpedal––perhaps a feature more than a flaw of Becca, a millennial who finds herself stuck. She’s initially drawn to a mysterious client who first refuses to go on camera with her. The Philly native sends her a rare bunny in the mail to keep her company and then insists on her putting on a show. The connection appears to be driven more by loneliness and isolation than pure fetish, but the film leaves the stranger’s motivations somewhat ambiguous until he lays down the ground rules, at one point telling her this is a transaction.

The Sundance Film Festival offers an exciting in-person experience for all of their films, but to access the demand from people with busy schedules or those unable to make it to Utah for the festival, they’ve recently put their films online. Bunnylovr is the exact type of movie that fits into this new change. It’s a contemplative film about modern digital sex work that feels as aimless as its main character.
Bunnylovr Sundance Review
Zhu stars in her directorial debut as Rebecca, a Chinese-American camgirl with no idea of her future. She has a modest following on a live-streaming pornographic site but has no prospects outside of that. Her dad is dying, and her friend doesn’t seem to like her much at all. This, naturally, leads her into a dark corner of her life after she becomes entranced by a fan who showers her with money, played...

“Sing Sing” co-writers Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley almost ignored the 2025 Oscar nominations — and it’s a good thing they didn’t.
The duo, along with John “Divine G” Whitfield and Clarence Maclin, are nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. The feature also received nods in the Best Original Song and Best Actor categories, with Colman Domingo landing his second consecutive Oscar nomination.
Kwedar and Bentley dropped by the IndieWire Studio at Sundance, presented by Dropbox, to discuss their latest feature, “Train Dreams.” But first, IndieWire film editor Ryan Lattanzio wanted to know how it felt to be newly minted Oscar nominees.
“I didn’t want to watch it,” Bentley said of the nominations, which were announced in a livestream by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott. “I was packing to come here [to Sundance], actually, and I was in the closet packing a suitcase, and then my wife turned it on the TV and she’s like,...

Saturday Night would make for a very solid double-bill with a Muppets movie. And not just because there are Muppets in it — well, primitive Muppets, at least, in the form of early Jim Henson creations King Ploobis and Vazh. Because much like one of Kermit and co’s capers, it’s all about putting on a show, and how much stress, anxiety and arm-flapping goes into playing music and lighting lights. At the centre of Jason Reitman’s movie, essentially playing the role of the frog, is the cardigan-wearing Lorne Michaels (Gabriel Labelle), young Canadian TV producer and wannabe revolutionary of the medium. He’s the sensible one. Around him swirls chaos, in many forms. There’s even an Animal stand-in, in the burly shape of John Belushi (Matt Wood), cocaine appreciator and walking tornado.
