Will Jennings, an Oscar winner for “My Heart Will Go On” and “Up Where We Belong” and one of the best known lyricists in the contemporary songwriting community, has died, his longtime publisher confirms to Variety. No cause of death was announced, although he had been ill for some time; he was 80.
Although the themes he co-wrote for “Titanic” (recorded by Celine Dion) and “An Officer and a Gentleman” (sung by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes) won him his two Academy Awards, Jennings was equally renowned for a third film song, “Tears in Heaven” (performed by Eric Clapton), from the movie “Rush,” which won him a Golden Globe for best original song as well as Grammys for record of the year and song of the year. He also won three Grammy Awards.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony spent three years working on her first Spanish album, Como Ama una Mujer. She decided to begin work on the album after she recorded the duet “Escapémonos” with Anthony. While she said that she enjoyed some elements of working with her then-husband, she admitted that it wasn’t easy. She shared why she preferred working with an “actual boss.”
Jennifer Lopez said it wasn’t easy to work with her husband Marc Anthony on an album
In 2004, Lopez and Anthony married. That same year, they began work on her first Spanish language album, Como Ama una Mujer. It took three years to come together, and Lopez said she was immensely proud of the result.
“Emotionally speaking, to me this album is more me than any other album,” she said, per Billboard.

Jennifer Lopez has been in many movies over the years, some more successful than others. In general, though, she takes pride in her acting work and has spoken openly about her skill. This doesn’t mean that she isn’t critical about some of her roles, though. Lopez said that there was one project she wanted to avoid watching again. She admitted that she did not put forward her best performance.
Jennifer Lopez did not want 1 movie she made to air on television
In the early stages of her career, Lopez said she had full responsibility over the projects she chose, both good and bad.
“This is show business,” she told Vanity Fair in 2001. “You’ve got to know the business you’re in…. I’ve always been in charge of every move I made. Nobody ever said, ‘This is a good idea, Jennifer.’ Like I’m that stupid and was just exploited.

Zoë Kravitz makes her directorial debut with a shocking thriller starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. Here’s our Blink Twice review.
About 40 minutes into Blink Twice, Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut, I was thinking I was watching a three star film. It was perfectly fine, good performances, but I kept thinking something was missing. Then, without warning, the film took a complete turn and I was hooked. I can’t remember another film that gave me that level of cinematic whiplash.
Let’s back up a little. Blink Twice stars Naomi Ackie as Frida, a cocktail waitress bored of her unremarkable life. Frida and her best friend Jess (Alia Shawkat) work at an event for tech mogul Slater King (Channing Tatum) and Frida makes friends with Slater, with whom she’s smitten. Slater invites the two women to his private island for sun-soaked days and drug-filled party nights.

Jennifer Lopez has enjoyed success in show business for years. She started as a dancer and, before long, was a success in the music and film industries. She has gone on tours and won awards. Still, she said that some of her biggest accomplishments have nothing to do with her career. Lopez shared what she sees as her biggest successes.
Jennifer Lopez listed her most important achievements
Lopez said that she has always felt a relentless drive to achieve because she has never felt that she fully fits in in show business.
“I’m not one of those media darlings,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “I didn’t get kissed into this business. I’m from the Bronx. I had to find my way, so I’ve always felt like I had to prove myself. Maybe that’s a good drive to have. I never settle for mediocre.”

Jennifer Lopez has been acting, singing, and dancing for years. After starting her career on In Living Color, Lopez has starred in many films and released albums. She has listed many major music icons as her inspirations, but she said she believes she is stronger as an actor than a singer. She shared how she felt about her music career.
Jennifer Lopez said she was better at acting than singing
Over the years, Lopez has given critically lauded performances in several different films. She feels proud of her talent as an actor.

Having been in the business for almost 50 years, gracing our television and cinema screens in shows like “Moesha” and “Abbott Elementary” and films “The Mighty Quinn” and “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” as well as the theatrical stage in the original production of “Dreamgirls,” Sheryl Lee Ralph should be considered a recognizable figure in the entertainment lexicon. And yet, in a recent piece for the Los Angeles Times, the Emmy-winning actress claims she’s repeatedly been mistaken for others.
“There was a point after ‘Dreamgirls’ [on Broadway] when I was getting on a plane, and someone was like, ‘Hi, Whitney.’ ‘I’m not Whitney Houston,’” she said she told the fellow passenger. “Time goes by, then the next person says, ‘Oh, Ms. Houston.’ ‘I am not Whitney Houston.’ Plane ride goes by, and the [flight attendant] comes with a bottle of wine and says, ‘I just want to say how much I adore you,...

Here's a classic from Hollywood's "Nobody Knows Anything" files (a three-word bit of industry wisdom coined by "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" screenwriter William Goldman in his book "Adventures in the Screen Trade").
You didn't need to know much of anything about the film business in the fall of 1992 to predict the box office success of Mick Jackson's "The Bodyguard." Kevin Costner was at the height of his movie stardom coming off the previous year's "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" and "JFK," while his co-star Whitney Houston (making her big-screen acting debut) was one of the most popular recording artists on the planet. The film would have to be an all-time turkey to fall short of profitability.
Based on a 17-year-old screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan, "The Bodyguard" underwhelmed critics, but connected strongly enough with its target audience to pull in $122 million at the domestic box office (on a reasonable $25 million budget). The film,...

Kevin Costner remembers his late The Bodyguard co-star Whitney Houston and recalled he refused to shorten his eulogy at her funeral.
The actor recalled someone suggesting he tighten up his words to the late Houston as CNN was broadcasting the funeral live.
“I had been working on this speech… and I tried to compile everything I wanted to do and finally crafted this speech,” Costner said on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “Somebody said, ‘CNN’s here, they wouldn’t mind if your remarks were kept shorter because they’re going to have commercials.’ And I said, ‘They can get over that. They can play the commercial while I’m talking, I don’t care.'”
Costner initially hesitated to speak at Houston’s funeral, but Dionne Warwick encouraged him to do so.

The X-Men: The Animated Series was a masterpiece in its finest form, and Larry Houston was one of the producers at the helm of it. Throughout the five seasons that it aired, fans were deeply in love with almost every story arc that the 1992 series decided to adapt. But even after such tremendous success with it, Houston still has one major regret about the show.

This regret is about his not exploring the character arc of a super-powerful yet long-forgotten hero, who was even more closely related to Scott Summers than what the non-comic book readers may expect. This character was Alex Summers, the younger brother of Scott and a mutant himself, best known as ‘Havoc.’ And as it turns out, Houston has immense regrets about it.

There’s a trap inherent to making a musical biopic. On the one hand, there’s something undeniably thrilling and crowd-pleasing about seeing a cultural icon like Freddie Mercury, Whitney Houston, or Elvis Presley come alive on the screen. On the other hand, when audiences buy a ticket to see a movie about a famous musician, they expect to hear their songs. More importantly, they expect to hear their voices.
Music history is filled with artists whose vocal qualities have become iconic in their own right, immediately distinctive and filled with incredible personality. Think of Mercury’s bombastic, four-octave vocal range that very few people on the planet are capable of replicating. Or Houston’s soulful, gospel-inspired technique, or Presley’s often-parodied stuttering Southern drawl. It’s not only difficult for an actor cast as these artists to live up to their singing — sometimes, it’s quite literally impossible.

X-Men ’97 dropped its first two episodes on Wednesday on Disney+ and fans were transported back to the nostalgic times of X-Men: The Animated Series. The new series is neither a reboot nor a remake of the old series, but a continuation. The animation team had to work within the parameters of the nineties. The biggest challenge for them was the technological advancements in animation between the original show and this new show.
X-Men ’97 had one major challenge in continuing the storyline from X-Men: The Animated Show

The '90s gave us some of the best kids' show theme songs of all time, from "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" to "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." But even those classic examples couldn't quite match the sheer ear-wormery of the opening titles to "X-Men: The Animated Series." The beloved Fox Kids show didn't even need lyrics to embed itself in the collective cortex of a generation, who can surely recall its dynamic, synthesized tones in a split second.
Now, Disney has decided to tap into that reservoir of nostalgia with "X-Men '97," an animated streaming show that apes the original's distinctive visual style and picks up where its 1997 series finale left off. Everything we've seen in the lead-up to its release points to a faithful revival, with the easter egg-filled "X-Men '97" trailer promising a show that not only feels aesthetically akin to the original but brings back plenty of the Og voice actors.

The first two episodes of Marvel’s X-Men ’97 dropped on Disney+ a few hours ago and the episodes have managed to impress new audiences as well as the fans of the original. The original X-Men: The Animated Show was released in 1992 and lasted until 1997. The new series picks up from where the original left off. It is interesting to learn that the original series almost never happened due to the Hollywood studios’ lack of confidence in the project.

Days after Paramount’s Bob Marley: One Love overperformed in its opening weekend at the box office, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman stole a bit of the spotlight Feb. 20 in unveiling not one but four intersecting feature films from Sam Mendes about The Beatles, each focusing on one member of the Fab Four: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.
“You have to match the boldness of the idea with a bold release strategy,” Rothman tells The Hollywood Reporter about the project that earned the Oscar-winning director a coveted signoff from the group’s selective label Apple Corps. “There hasn’t been an enterprise like this before, and you can’t think about it in traditional releasing terms.”
Sony hopes the films, which don’t yet have writers on board, will begin shooting in the U.K. in mid-2025 to make the planned 2027 release for all four titles,...

Credit: Bfa / Warner Bros (Alamy) By 1991, the late Whitney Houston had already conquered the music industry, scoring nine #1 hits, selling more than 50 million albums worldwide, and earning 10 Grammy Awards nominations (winning twice). And while she’d made a few appearances on episodic TV shows — mostly playing herself — an acting career had been something she’d had on her radar for a long time. It looked like that would come to fruition when she was approached to play the lead role in The Bodyguard, a film that had been in development for many years. As much as she wanted to land a movie, though, Houston almost turned down the role. When the movie was initially released in 1992, she said it was her co-star, Kevin Costner, who ultimately convinced her to make the film. The very idea of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston collaborating is breathtaking. Carey discussed what it was like getting to know Houston while they worked on the movie The Prince of Egypt. She also revealed that something about the creative process irked her.
Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston did a song by a Broadway titan for ‘The Prince of Egypt’
In her 2020 book The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the “Touch My Body” singer recalled producer Jeffrey Katzenberg asking her to perform “When You Believe” with Houston for The Prince of Egypt. Katzenberg was a Disney producer who later went on to co-found DreamWorks Skg. Neither singer had anything to do with the writing of the song. “When You Believe” was by Stephen Schwartz, who is known for writing tunes for Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, and Enchanted. Antonio “L.A.” Reid — a Grammy-winning music executive known for helping launch the careers of Usher, OutKast and Pink — has been sued by a former Arista Records executive who claims she was sexually assaulted and retaliated against by Reid, who allegedly obstructed her career after she rebuffed further advances.

Updated with teaser trailer for Whitney Houston in Focus below. Exclusive: The estate of Whitney Houston has resolved its concerns about the documentary Whitney Houston in Focus and is now throwing full support behind the film.
The 34-minute film directed by Benjamin Alfonsi is set to hold its world premiere next month at Doc NYC. The doc is centered on the recollections of photographer Bette Marshall who did multiple photo shoots with the young singer between 1982-86, the period Houston went from unknown to worldwide sensation. When Deadline first reported about the nascent film in December 2021, the estate told us it was upset over the project and hadn’t been consulted about it.
Seeing the finished film apparently dispelled any lingering qualms. Pat Houston, executor of the late singer’s estate, president of Whitney Houston Enterprises and Whitney’s former manager, called the documentary “an amazing story,” according to a release about the film.

Gayle Hunnicutt, whose best-known work came as Vanessa Beaumont, the mother of J.R. Ewing’s illegitimate son, in the final three seasons of Dallas, has died per multiple U.K. reports. Hunnicutt died last Thursday at a hospital in London, according to her ex-husband Simon Jenkins. She was 80 years old.
That Hunnicutt would find fame playing Vanessa Beaumont, a Brit, on a TV show called Dallas was a bit ironic for a woman born in Fort Worth. But it was entirely sensible given that the actress spent much of her career in British TV and movies, even marrying the be-knighted Jenkins before returning to work in the U.S.
Her TV career began with a role on the shortlived small-screen adaptation of Mister Roberts and included roles on The Beverly Hillbillies, Get Smart and in Marlowe opposite James Garner.

After a steady start to the second season with Something’s Changed, which showcased the new world order of a post-invasion dystopia, the second episode of Apple TV+’s Invasion, titled Chasing Ghosts, brings the narrative flow to an abrupt halt. Information that could have easily been added to any other episode with two additional narrative segments is needlessly stretched out to almost an hour-long episode, as it seems the makers are wilfully shackling down the otherwise strong potential that the first episode promised.
In the previous episode, viewers learned that four months after the invasion, the world government has mingled into a single overseeing organization named the Coalition, which is facing adversity in the presence of an insurgence group known as the Movement. The Coalition is also working with the eccentric, fabulously wealthy investor Nikhil Kapur, who abducts Mitsuki and requests that she venture into the alien mothership in...

Last week, a court in Sydney, Australia, acquitted the founder of the global megachurch Hillsong of covering up his father’s child sexual abuse in the 1970s.
The ruling found that Brian Houston had followed his father’s victim Brett Sengstock‘s request to not report the abuse to the police. Magistrate Gareth Christofi said there was “little doubt” Houston knew Sengstock did not want the abuse to be reported and thus “had a reasonable excuse for not bringing the matter to the attention of police.”
Houston addressed reporters on Thursday, saying, “A lot of people’s lives have been tragically hurt, and for that, I’ll always be very sad. But I am not my father. I did not commit this offense.”
Sengstock was in the court to hear the verdict. He previously recalled during the trial that he was repeatedly raped by Houston’s father, Frank Houston.
