The story of Beowulf and Grendel is one of the most famous stories in English literature. The epic Beowulf is one of the most important works of English literature in general and it has been an inspiration for many authors over the centuries. We have also had numerous adaptations of the work, including the animated film from 2007, but all of them focused on the heroic tale of Beowulf, the hero of the story. But, the story also has another important character – Grendel – the monster and Beowulf’s rival in the story.
Grendel is finally going to get the chance to tell you his side of the story, as the movie Grendel will be released soon, with Palisades Park Pictures is launching international sales ahead of Cannes.
But that is actually not the main piece of news we have for you today. Namely, the cast of the upcoming movie has been...

Here's some very cool news: the folks at the Jim Henson Company will lend their skills to building practical monster puppets for a new live-action movie based on "Beowulf" and on the John Gardner novel "Grendel." The film, titled "Grendel," will retell the legend of Beowulf from the monster Grendel's point of view (via THR). Jeff Bridges is set to play Grendel, while Dave Bautista will portray Beowulf. The cast also includes Bryan Cranston set as King Hrothgar, Sam Elliott as The Dragon, Thomasin McKenzie as Queen Wealhtheow, Aidan Turner as Unferth, and T Bone Burnett will also appear as a character named The Shaper. Burnett will also craft original songs for the film. Robert D. Krzykowski, who helmed the wonderfully titled film "The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot," is set to direct.

With a title like The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then The Bigfoot, people going to see this movie will probably be expecting something very strange. And that’s kind of what you get but in a different way than you might think.
I will say it immediately, this is not a ridiculous B-movie that the title may suggest. It has one moment or scene in particular that goes down that route but that is it. This is much more serious than I expected and a good chunk of the movie is spent focusing on a love story between the ‘man’, Calvin Barr (played by Aidan Turner in his younger years and Sam Elliott in his later life). The man who did what and then what? Robert D. Krzykowski’s first feature isn’t a throwaway joke, but an elegantly crafted and designed fantasy grounded in human values. Sam Elliott’s crusty sixty-something secret agent comes out of retirement to save the world again — will the slaying of another bizarre horror lay to rest disturbing memories of a secret WW2 mission? This thing will be a pleasant discovery for those in pursuit of ‘something completely different.’ The intentionally awkward title is jarring, but it fits because I’ve never seen anything quite like this before.

Marking his feature film debut, Bigfoot is currently playing in select theaters and opened at #1 on several streaming charts including iTunes independent. The 1987-set film, which was a collaboration between Krzykowski, John Sayles, Douglas Trumbull and Lucky McKee, follows a legendary American war veteran who, decades after serving in World War II and assassinating Adolf Hitler, is contacted to hunt down the fabled Bigfoot—carrier of a deadly plague hidden deep in the Canadian wilderness.
In addition, Krzykowski created the cult comic Elsie Hooper. His film work includes live-action puppetry, animation, cloud tank photography, and classic effects techniques. He acted as a producer on the films The Woman and Carolina Low with frequent collaborator Sean Bridgers. The...

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then Bigfoot is loopy fun, but the reason it works is because of Sam Elliott's man's man performance.
Sam Elliott’s long overdue first Oscar nomination, arriving at last for his turn in A Star Is Born, has thrust the grizzled screen vet into the spotlight like never before. But if you loved him in that movie, The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then Bigfoot is truly a cannot-miss affair. It’s 98 minutes of Elliott acting his ass off within the scaffolding of one of the most bizarre and unexpectedly touching screen stories you’ll see on the big screen this season.
My fear is that audiences will be deterred by the movie’s long, strange title, which is unique and awesome but doesn’t signal just how poignant the story is at its heart. Elliott plays Calvin Barr, a World War II...

The great Sam Elliott got another lead role in writer/director Robert D. Krzykowski’s debut feature length film, the wonderfully titled The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot. Elliott plays the titular man who did not one, but two heroic actions that, to put it mildly, are hard to believe. When he was young (Aidan Turner plays this version of the protagonist), Calvin Barr embarked on the impossible mission of killing Nazy Germany leader Adolf Hitler, something that continues to haunt him in his twilight years. In 1987, Barr can’t get over his painful past, which includes an unfulfilled love story, however the American and Canadian governments are ready to offer him a...

It has never been better to be Sam Elliott than it is now. 2017 brought a wonderful vehicle for the man in The Hero, giving him a lovely showcase. Kudos to filmmaker Brett Haley for doing that, after giving him a plum supporting role in I’ll See You In My Dreams. Obviously, 2018 saw him bring audiences to tears in A Star Is Born, garnering his first ever Academy Award nomination in the process. Now, as the Oscars approach, he starts off 2019 right with a starring role in a project with an amazing title. After all, who wouldn’t want to see something called The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot? Exactly. Opening this Friday, it’s the best release of the year so far. The film is a character study, though one tinged with some interesting action/suspense beats. At first glance, Calvin Barr (Elliott) just appears to be a retired old man.

This Friday, Rlje Films is set to release The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot in theaters and on various digital platforms. In the film written and directed by Robert D. Krzykowski, Sam Elliott stars in the titular role as Calvin Barr, an ordinary man who has been a part of some extraordinary circumstances throughout his life, and we see how the burden of his heroic actions have loomed over him, and the regret that he’s carried about the life he had to give up as well.
Daily Dead recently spoke with Krzykowski about the project, and he chatted about the 12-year journey of getting this idea onto the big screen, as well as why he took an unusual route with the story, his experiences collaborating with Elliott, and the timeliness of The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot.
I would love to hear about creating this story.

We really don't know much about Sam Elliot's new film The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot. All we've been given so far is a poster, a synopsis, and a very intriguing title. Based on those things, I'm extremely excited to see this movie!
For those of you, like myself, looking for some more information on the film, Sam Elliot and director Robert D. Krzykowski sat down with /Film to talk about the movie and it sounds like they really enjoyed creating it. Before we get into it, here's the synopsis:

If you’re brassy enough to name and make a film called “The Man Who Killed Hitler And Then Bigfoot,” you better deliver on that promise. Sadly, and surprisingly given the title’s absurdist genre connotations, director Robert D. Krzykowski‘s film of the same name, is a more meditative, slow-moving affair, as legendary character actor Sam Elliott plays the titular hero that carries out both missions to assassinate two of history’s most legendary evils.

Rarely has the gap between outlandish concept and pedestrian execution been quite so wide as it is with “The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot.” Producer Robert D. Krzykowski’s long-aborning debut feature as writer-director must’ve had a passion project’s motivation behind it to reach realization. Yet it’s difficult from the final result to fathom just what the intended point was.
All its idiosyncrasy expended on that undeniably head-turning title, this low-key, literal-minded indie manages to make those marquee events pretty uninteresting. The rest is a surprisingly rote grumpy-old-coot character study that provides Sam Elliott another opportunity to amble respectably through a portrait of late-life discontent not so different from last year’s tepid “The Hero.”
Whatever expectations of a goofy and/or fantastical good time raised by that memorable moniker will go unfulfilled by a movie whose imagination seemingly ran dry after the title page was written.

Even if the feature film debut from writer/director Robert D. Krzykowski was the single worst film of the year, it would still win the award for the greatest and most honest title of any movie ever: The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot. While this may seem like the title of a winking, […]

I don’t think I’m making any kind of grand revelation here by declaring that Sam Elliott rules. For anyone who has grown up on a steady stream of badassery from the grizzled actor, he’s proved himself time and time again to be one of the greatest and most enigmatic performers to ever grace the silver screen, and The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot is the perfect showcase for Elliott’s immeasurable talents. And while you might be expecting something a little more bombastic based on the immediately unforgettable title of Robert D. Krzykowski’s stunning debut feature, his story is more interested in taking the introspective route, resulting in an endlessly engaging adventure that manages to pull a few heartstrings along the way.
Ultimately, how Krzykowski frames his narrative is reflected directly in the character of Calvin Barr (Elliott), who, as you can imagine,...

This first poster has been released for an upcoming new film starring Sam Elliot called The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot. This movie sounds like it's going to be freakin' awesome and I love this first poster. I'm sure you're all wondering what the movie is about, so here's the synopsis:
Sam Elliott stars as a legendary World War II veteran who many years ago assassinated Adolf Hitler – an incredible secret that he’s frustratingly unable to share with the world. One day, just as he’s coming to terms with rounding out his life, Calvin gets a visit from the FBI and The Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They need him to take out Bigfoot.
If that doesn't sell you on this movie, then I guess you can always just wait for the trailer, which I imagine will end up being released at some point in the near future.

The Woman has generated some controversy based on its misogynistic tones and scenes of torture. Early reviews from major news sources have called the film "an hour and a half of brutal misogyny" (Reporter) and "devoid of wit, flair and thematic focus" (Variety). However, most critics agree that the film is out to shock and there is often an audience for films that will push boundaries. The Woman will premiere in the United Kingdom August 27th and North America October 14th.
Part of the premise for The Woman is this focus on a feral person captured in the wild. Strangely, this is not an uncommon occurrence, with hundreds of stories of feral people being found in jungles and forests locally and abroad. Recently, there was a report of a Cambodian woman found malnourished and partially naked in Rattanakiri Prov. (2007). Her speech was imparied and her ability to socialize was diminished.
