A personal tragedy can affect someone in unforeseen ways.
Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) got new proof in "Knockout Game," Friday's (March 14) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods" written by co-executive producer Brian Burns and directed by Robert Harmon, who also worked with series star Tom Selleck on most of the "Jesse Stone" TV movies.
The story opened with expectant parents Mike and Stephanie Rose (guest stars Josh Segarra and Rose Hemingway) taking an evening stroll and discussing possible names for their child. Suddenly, a gang of youths came rushing up behind them and one punched Stephanie in the face, felling her. A panicked Mike cradled her and screamed for help.
Frank (Selleck) already had concerns about the so-called "knockout game" being practiced randomly throughout the city's boroughs. As he struggled to determine factors linking the attacks, he ordered the NYPD to reach out to informants for any potentially useful information.

Catch new photos from The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete, starring Skylan Brooks, Ethan Dizon, Anthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Jordin Sparks, Julito McCullum and Adam Trese. Admitedly, I'd never heard of this one, which is quite surprising considering the intriguing title. George Tillman Jr. is quite picky about his projects, having just 6 times at the helm from 1995 until now. So you know, this project must have attracted him very strongly. He's known for films like strong films like Soul Food, Men of Honor, Notorious and Faster, and now directs from the script by Michael Starrbury.

Everybody Knows: Tillman’s Latest a Melodramatic Exercise of Youth in the Projects
Director George Tillman Jr. takes a step away from mainstream fodder for an examination of urban miserabalism with The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. Due to a charismatic performance from his lead child star, Tillman’s latest manages to clear a majority of the significant hurdles in the way of making the film a dramatic success, even as it recalls several other notable lost children titles, anywhere from a handful of Spike Lee titles to Hirokazu Koreeda’s Nobody Knows (2004). Despite its well meaning intentions, some significant issues with the film cannot be overlooked, namely first time film feature scribe Michael Starrbury’s script, which throws so many maudlin scenarios at us that Precious (2009) starts to look like a glowing example of agency.

Yes, there’s even more. Hard to believe, since it was just Friday — a time, one that’s not so long ago — when rumors started to swirl of Antonio Banderas and Joe Manganiello shooting Knight of Cups for Terrence Malick, but the maverick filmmaker has pulled off another feat and added someone else to his lineup.
Ryan O’Neal tweeted (he’s on Twitter, apparently) that he was on the set of Malick‘s latest; you can see a photo of that activity to your right. (Later, for good measure, there was a little dropping of Christian Bale and Natalie Portman‘s names.) With this addition — one for which the details simply do not exist, I’m afraid — Cups has expanded a cast that already includes Cate Blanchett, Wes Bentley, Freida Pinto, Isabel Lucas, Felicity Jones, and Teresa Palmer. Simply for aor avoiding the tedious day-by-day casting process, I instantly and unreservedly commend The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete. Previously unbeknownst to us — but now made public, thanks to Deadline — is the news that State Street Pictures and iDeal Partners have started shooting a new drama from George Tillman Jr. (Faster, Men of Honor) that stars Anthony Mackie, Jeffrey Wright, Jennifer Hudson, and Jordin Sparks (Sparkle). Alicia Keys will executive produce, for some reason.
Michael Starrbury wrote the film, which follows “two inner-city youths left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities.” I can’t see any of the aforementioned actors playing “youths” of any sort — well, in a dramatic film — though its IMDb page lists Eric Ruffin and The Wire‘s Julito McCullum. I’d guess the primary roles fall to them.
Next up, Variety tells us that Camilla Belle (10,000 B.

Disney's dance with "The Lone Ranger" just keeps getting trickier.
Deadline reports that Disney must accept the $215 million-ish budget that director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer are presenting, or move forward without Verbinski... and, by extension, without Johnny Depp, who reportedly won't shoot the film without Verbinski behind the camera. Disney originally pulled the plug on "The Lone Ranger" because the budget got a bit too out of control, though last we heard they were negotiating. We'll keep you posted with further updates as soon as we have them.

After a cameo in The Hangover brought Mike Tyson back into the public eye a couple of years ago, his new career in showbiz is now "flourishing" with a reality TV show on Animal Planet and co-hosting duties for Comedy Central's roast of Charlie Sheen. But more importantly, he is currently setting up a boxing drama for TV with the help of Spike Lee and Entourage creator Doug Ellin. This week it was announced that HBO has ordered a pilot for the project, which is going under the title Da Brick (a reference to the Newark, NJ setting, which is also known as The Brick City). They've also already found a lead for the show in John Boyega, the star of Joe Cornish's breakout hit Attack the Block. Count me in. Tyson appeared on an episode of Entourage back in 2010, and at the time he told Doug Ellin...

The answer is John Boyega.
Currently starring in “Attack the Block,” Boyega has been cast as Donnie, a former juvenile delinquent who embarks on a personal journey toward redemption, THR reports. The character is based loosely on Tyson, though his name on the show (and the name of the show, itself) will be “Da Brick.”

Recently, reports about a spin-off for the 1990's most popular teen soap, Beverly Hills 90210 circulated. Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas was hired to write the pilot for the spin-off, which would hopefully be picked up by one of the major networks. In fact, as the pilot is currently in the works, casting rumors and announcements have circulated, bringing into discussion names such as Tristan Wilds, Michael Steger and teenybopper Hilary Duff. One thing's for sure though, The Wire actor is certainly taking the lead on the newest remake of all time.

The following piece discusses the series finale of "The Wire" (which aired Sunday on HBO). If you're a "Wire" fan, I recommend watching the finale before reading what's below.
An image has been in my mind since I watched the series finale of “The Wire.” It’s a scene of a character named Dukie preparing to shoot up drugs.
It’s only a brief glimpse at Dukie’s fate, but it’s heartbreaking.
We met Dukie (Jermaine Crawford) and three other eighth-grade boys two years ago, in Season 4 of “The Wire.” He was a shy, smart, gawky youth who didn’t quite fit in on the tough streets of West Baltimore.
He blossomed when his teacher, a former cop, started giving Dukie clean clothes and soap and showing him how to use a computer. As he gained confidence and shed some of his reticence, it was impossible not to care about Dukie,...
