There's no way that Batman jumping off a roof doesn't look cool. Since the opening of 1989's "Batman," when Michael Keaton delivered his immortal "I'm Batman" line atop a high-rise before leaping into the smoke-filled abyss below, the Dark Knight has been using much of his time on-screen to glide around Gotham in spectacular style. "Batman Returns" was when we got the first proper "glide," wherein Keaton's hero sailed over Gotham Plaza amid a cloud of bats after being framed for the Ice Princess' murder. And impressive though that scene was for 1992, things would only get more impressive with successive Batman movies.
By the time Christopher Nolan came to oversee the franchise, Batman being able to "fly" was much more of a focus. In "Batman Begins," Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne uses a cape made of fibers that solidify once an electrical charge is passed through them. And wouldn't you believe,...

Before you get too excited, dear reader: No, actor Robert Pattinson did not try on the Batman costume worn by Adam West in the popular 1966 TV series. He did, however, actually put on the very same Batman costumes once worm by Val Kilmer and George Clooney (in "Batman Forever" and "Batman & Robin" respectively) for his screen test. It seems that even in 2022, Warner Bros. was keeping suits built in 1995 and 1997 as a reference.
Matt Reeves' 2022 film "The Batman" was a very different animal from the Batman feature films that had come before. Eschewing comic book fun, and embracing a dour, depressing aesthetic cribbed directly from David Fincher's "Seven," "The Batman" was a terse and complicated crime movie about a serial killer, organized crime, and terrorism. Gone were the colorful, outsize villains, or a Bruce Wayne who seemed capable of having any fun while living his life as a millionaire playboy.

From comics to films, superhero stories have always had an impassioned audience. This Oscar season has seen new people donning the mantle of the heroes, which gives the costume designers the chance to elevate their design while still paying homage to the original comics.
After the death of Chadwick Boseman, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever brings a new Black Panther into the fold and elevates the role of Queen Ramonda. The Batman sees a new actor taking on the role of the caped crusader, with an updated “Batsuit” to match the gritty realness of the film. Mighty Thor makes her Marvel debut in Thor: Love and Thunder, while the original Thor’s costume changes in response.

“The Batman” star Robert Pattinson imbues his shadowy crime fighter with an outsider’s emotionality that allows the viewer to read his performance as the costumed vigilante just as easily as his performance as the wealthy recluse Bruce Wayne. But that wouldn’t be possible without the work of David Crossman and Glyn Dillon, the costume designers behind the new Batsuit.
The artists credit new fabrication technologies unavailable to previous Batman designers that allow costumes to be made with a nuanced performances in mind, giving Pattinson a greater range of movement and expression. “We were just very, very aware from the beginning how flexible it all needed to be,” says Crossman.
One way in which their take on the iconic costume differentiates itself from other cinematic incarnations is that they give the Dark Knight’s cowl a “neutral” expression.

The Batsuit is Bruce Wayne's identity in "The Batman." He's in the second year of his gig as the Caped Crusader, but his days as the Bruce Wayne haven't even begun yet. He is The Batman and no one else. In director Matt Reeves' film, we spend more time than ever with the character behind the mask, and Glyn Dillon and David Crossman are the two artists responsible for creating that mask.
Together, the duo strived for realism with this new Batsuit, but they also landed on a deeply cinematic look -- a costume that lives in the shadows. Expectations are...

Matt Reeves’s “The Batman” is finally out in theaters, and reviews have been pretty great. A lot of credit for that must go to the creative artisans who helped Reeves attain his vision for the Dark Knight. To say that the crafts of Reeves’s collaborators are fully on display in this movie would be an understatement, especially when you consider that multiple craftspeople involved with the movie are currently up for Oscars later this month.
“The Batman” was one of the many productions that famously got shut down due to Covid after it began filming in January 2020. It had to turn off cameras for six months until pandemic protocols were in place, but you’re not likely to be able to tell from watching it.

The Batman not only introduces a new star to the Batcave but also a brand-new Batsuit, one unlike any we’ve seen on the big screen before. Built like expensive heavy duty armor designed to deflect bullets and blades, it nonetheless showcases this Bruce Wayne’s DIY spirit, complete with shoulder pads and a Bat symbol that looks like it was forged inside a garage. It’s exemplary of the film’s much more “grounded” approach to the Dark Knight‘s equipment.

DC FanDome: Hall of Heroes wrapped up with a 30-minute discussion with director Matt Reeves about The Batman, and it did not disappoint. Introduced by Robert Pattinson and moderated by DC FanDome host Aisha Tyler, the fast-talking Reeves covered quite a bit over the course of the panel, including giving fans a pretty clear idea of what sort of story they’re in for when The Batman debuts in October of next year.

As had been discussed before, The Batman is set during Bruce Wayne’s second year as a crimefighter, meaning it’s not an origin, but the Dark Knight is clearly still establishing himself and becoming the hero he’ll eventually become. As Reeves made clear, “He’s far from perfect.” While Batman is no longer a new presence in Gotham City when The Batman starts, he’s not having the affect on the...

The first trailer for The Batman has arrived and it does not disappoint! With Matt Reeves in the director's chair, I had no doubt we were getting something special, but I'm totally on board for this seemingly Batman: Zero Year-inspired take. The trailer gives us a good look at Robert Pattinson as the Dark Knight, as well as Jeffrey Wright as Jame Gordin, while giving us a glimpse of Paul Dano as The Riddler and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman. Take a look at the trailer below and let us know what you think:
"From Warner Bros. Pictures comes “The Batman,” with director Matt Reeves (the “Planet of the Apes” films) at the helm and with Robert Pattinson starring as Gotham City’s vigilante detective, Batman, and billionaire Bruce Wayne.

Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018) is far and away the most ‘A New Hope-like’ film in the series yet. In terms of tone, sure, but particularly costume.
What costume designers Glyn Dillon and David Crossman have so expertly achieved with Solo is making a contemporary looking movie set during the late 1960s. Star Wars: A New Hope was released in 1977 which puts Solo’s timeline around a decade before, or likely just over. But hang on, isn’t this a science fiction movie? What does when it’s made have to do with the space opera world being brought to life on screen? Well the seventies in particular was one of the most eclectic and anachronistic costume decades of all time, especially for period, sci-fi and fantasy. There were wide lapels, flared trousers and hostess dresses seen in anything from Edwardian Britain to 23rd century cosmos. Fashion influence...

Han Solo – Smuggler. Scoundrel. Hero. A New Star Wars Story Begins.
The adventure-filled past of the iconic scoundrel and everyone’s favorite Wookiee is going before cameras this month when principal photography on the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story officially began February 20th at Pinewood Studios, London.
The movie will explore the duo’s adventures before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, including their early encounters with that other card-playing rogue from a galaxy far, far away, Lando Calrissian.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are directors co-piloting the movie, with a cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, Thandie Newton, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca.
“Watching such inspired people from all over the world, with such unique voices, come together for the sole purpose of making art, is nothing short of miraculous,” Lord and Miller said.

For some of us, the 1990s was a certain kind of Golden Age of Comics. The success of Image Comics meant that creators were given a lot of freedom to do what they liked, with deep-pocketed corporations competing to see who could throw the most money at the talent. It was in this environment that DC launched the Vertigo imprint, and eventually set up a satellite office in London.
Art Young was in charge, fresh from a brief stint at Touchmark, Disney’s pre-Marvel attempt at the Direct Market. The only other person on staff was Tim Pilcher. Together, they published a slew of books (including most of the books originally commissioned for Touchmark) and generally made comics seem even cooler.

The first trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has hit. Gareth Edwards’ spinoff tale of a group of rebels working to steal plans for the Death Star isn’t related director to the new trilogy that began with The Force Awakens last year, but should still make for a solid adventure by the looks of it.

We have reached a sort of middle: the sixth part of The Kindly One’s thirteen parts. Thirteen, of course, being an odd number does not split evenly in two. Fans of Part 7 might find it more comfortably middle-ish, being for all intents and purposes the beginning of the second half, while fans of Part 6 might argue fervently and ferociously that their part is really the middle because it’s the end of the first half. Fans of Part 8 might then dispute the fans of Part 7 for the title of Beginning of the Second Half, invoking all sorts of ancient statutes requiring that second halves be shorter than first halves if the halves are not equal halves.
