Temple Hill Entertainment has had great success with the horror movie Smile, which has earned almost 200 million at the global box office – so it’s no surprise they have just lined up another horror project. Deadline reports that Temple Hill will be producing an adaptation of the Adam Cesare novel Clown in a Cornfield (pick up a copy Here), with Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil and Little Evil‘s Eli Craig on board to direct the film.
Clown in a Cornfield will tell the story of a fading midwestern town, in which Frendo the clown – a symbol of bygone success – reemerges as a terrifying scourge. Cesare’s novel has the following description:
Quinn Maybrook and her father have moved to tiny, boring Kettle Springs, to find a fresh start. But what they don’t know is that ever since the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory shut down, Kettle Springs has cracked in half.

The producers behind 2022's horror hit "Smile" are wasting no time in lining up their next project. And this one has a creepy clown in it! Plus, it is coming from the same director who gave us "Tucker and Dale vs. Evil." The project in question? An adaptation of author Adam Cesare's novel "Clown in a Cornfield." It's early stages, but the pieces on the board are promising.
According to Deadline, Eli Craig has been tapped to direct the film, which is a joint venture between Protagonist and Temple Hill. Carter Blanchard, an uncredited writer on "Independence Day: Resurgence," has been tapped to pen the screenplay. "We love Eli Craig's brand of scary fun and are thrilled to be working with him on this terrifying slasher adaptation that is both timely and timeless," said Temple Hill producers in a statement. Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop, meanwhile, had this to add:

It’s no secret that Independence Day: Resurgence, the blockbuster sequel that was two decades in the making, persevered through its fair share of trials and tribulations during the early stages of development.
Remember ID Forever Part I and ID Forever Part II? Director Roland Emmerich evidently had big plans for his sci-fi franchise in the build up to Resurgence, but after hashing out a screenplay with Dean Devlin and co-writer Carter Blanchard circa 2014, 20th Century Fox commissioned a single sequel to the cult classic, leaving the future of the franchise up in the air.
Even after the release of Independence Day: Resurgence, questions continue to linger, and that’s even when you factor in the sequel’s cliffhanger ending. Alas, negative reviews and lowly box office returns look to have painted Fox’s larger-than-life series into a corner, and despite Emmerich initially expressing a desire to craft an “intergalactic journey” with the third film,...

A couple of months ago we learned that Fox might be developing a kid friendly version of Fantastic Four. The movie was supposedly being developed by Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows) and it was said to center around Sue and Reed Richard's children Franklin and Valeria Richards, as well as Thing and Human Torch.
Today we have some new details on the project from Bleeding Cool. They are saying that the Fantastic Four film is actually a rework of an unpublished Mark Millar children's book called Kindergarten Heroes. Millar ended up pitching the idea to Fox in 2013 and they picked up the option.
The studio was developing the Kindergarten Heroes as a movie and it even had a screenplay written by Carter Blanchard. That project has now become the basis for their Fantastic Four kids movie. The report says:

"Real Steel" and "Night at the Museum" helmer Shawn Levy is set to produce and potentially direct a film adaptation of Brandon Sanderson's young adult novel series "Steelheart" for 20th Century Fox.
The first book was published in 2013 and sets up a society in which super-beings are called 'epics' and are essentially the bad guys. Receiving their powers in a freak natural event, these super villains use them to rule and enslave with the titular Steelheart being the most evil of all.
Resistance has emerged though in the form of Reckoners: ordinary humans dedicated to finding their weaknesses and assassinating them. The main protagonist is a Reckoner with a personal grudge against the Epics.

Ward, known best for her role on CSI: NY, has a history with Emmerich – they last worked together on The Day After Tomorrow, which stands as one of the helmer’s biggest hits. In one of the most interesting pieces of casting news to land this week, THR reports that Charlotte Gainsbourg has entered talks to appear in sci-fi sequel Independence Day 2. The actress is known for her aggressively method performances in Lars Von Trier’s back catalogue of works including Nymphomaniac, Antichrist and Melancholia, so stepping away from character-driven pieces and into the realm of blockbuster fare is certainly an unexpected move for Gainsbourg.

Welcome to another horror/sci-fi round-up! This time around we have word of two big cast confirmations for Independence Day 2, details on Scream Factory's Deep in the Darkness Blu-ray / DVD release, and information on the new Blanc/Biehn Productions film, Treachery.
Independence Day 2: Last night it was revealed that the first official cast member had signed on to star in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day 2, the sequel to his 1996 film that featured massive alien-induced destruction and larger-than-life characters. It's now been confirmed that one of those characters will be coming back, as Emmerich tweeted last night that Jeff Goldblum will appear in the sequel, likely reprising his role as the brainy and dryly humorous David Levinson, who teamed up with fighter pilot Captain Steven Hiller to take down the mothership in the original film. Smith will not be coming back to reprise his role as Steven.

When Independence Day exploded onto the big screen in 1996, it became a box office smash hit. Its effective mix of science fiction, ground-breaking special effects, and disaster movie themes turned it into the quintessential summer blockbuster, and paved the way for director Roland Emmerich to wage cinematic war on countless iconic landmarks in subsequent movies, such as Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 and White House Down. Surprisingly, a sequel has been slow to develop – but the wait is almost over now, as finally, almost two decades later, Independence Day 2 is on its way – with Jessie Usher now cast.
Plot details are, of course, tightly under wraps, but we can surmise from the casting that a high level of continuity can be expected. Jeff Goldblum will apparently reprise his role as codebreaker and day saviour, David Levinson, and Jessie Usher is set to play the son of Will Smith’s Independence Day character,...

Their massive bulks blocked out the sun and spread panic like a disease in the streets below. The sheer size of their ships made them seem like gods. The destroyer spacecrafts in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day carried more than just aliens, they also held an overwhelming sense of dread that was unleashed when they slowly erased the blue sky above, and we could see them return with an even more intimidating presence when Independence Day 2 hits theaters next summer. Though rumors on who will star in the sequel have been swirling around for a while, the first concrete casting news has now come in, as the lead actor has been revealed for Independence Day 2, with the cast member playing a role with close ties to the original film.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jessie Usher (Survivor's Remorse) has been cast in a prominent role for Independence Day 2.

Given the fact that almost two decades have lapsed since the release of Independence Day, Roland Emmerich’s long-gestating follow-up now joins an infamous list of productions that took years upon years to follow in the shadow of their predecessor — think Dumb and Dumber To, Tron: Legacy et cetera. More often than not, these long-in-development titles leverage their appeal on the existing popularity, which no doubt wanes as the window stretches.
But now that ID Forever has set its sights on The Hunger Games‘ Liam Hemsworth to fill the void left by Will Smith, the continuation is on course to arrive sooner rather than later, following a script rewrite by Spy Hunter‘s Carter Blanchard. In fact, the screenwriter has begun to attract the attention of an array of different studios in the industry, as Deadline has learned that DreamWorks has picked up one of his original ghost story pitches.

Exclusive: DreamWorks has pre-emptively purchased an original ghost-story pitch from Carter Blanchard, the scribe who most recently did a rewrite on Independence Day 2. I’m told that the pitch is best described as a full-on ghost story rooted in classic Amblin storytelling. Blanchard previously sold his time-travel story Glimmer to the studio in a heated bidding war.
Madhouse Entertainment’s Adam Kolbrenner will produce with partner Robyn Meisinger and Madhouse’s Ryan Cunningham serving as executive producers. He previously wrote Spy Hunter for Warner Bros, and his script Near Death was just picked up by Voltage, with Gabriele Muccino set to direct. Blanchard is repped by Paradigm, Madhouse and attorney Peter Grossman.

The idea of a Stargate remake became less of a rumour and more of a reality last year, when the news arrived that Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin were looking to revisit their portal-filled film as the potential launch of a new trilogy that would expand upon the original story. Now we know who will get first crack at the script, with Nicolas Wright and James A. Woods hired for the job.The pair is still relatively unknown, but has forged a real bond with Emmerich after his Centropolis company bought an arctic-set action thriller script from them, which led to them landing the task of re-writing the Independence Day sequel that had seen work from Carter Blanchard. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was their draft that led to 20th Century Fox officially gearing up the film. What form the new Stargate adventure will take has yet to emerge: the 1994 original starred Kurt Russell,...

Liam Hemsworth has found fame with supporting roles in The Expendables and The Hunger Games franchises, but he has yet to carve out the same leading man career as his older brother Chris.
That could all be about to change however as the Aussie actor is now being eyed for a leading role in Rolan Emmerich’s Independence Day sequel (which is also being referred to as ID Forever).
Will Smith won’t be reprising the role which helped to make him famous back in 1996, but there have been rumours that Fantastic Four star Michael B. Jordan may play his now adult son in the movie. A cameo could still happen, but it seems unlikely when Smith is set to be so busy playing Deadshot in upcoming DC Comics adaptation, Suicide Squad.

Director Roland Emmerich is prepping to shoot Independence Day 2, and casting is underway. According to TheWrap. Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, The Expendables 2) has been offered a leading role in the sequel. There's no word on if he has accepted, but he would be stupid not to. He should feel lucky that he was even offered the role. The guy's not a very good actor.
The movie is said to take place 20 years after the events of the first film, and Will Smith will not return to reprise his role. Both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman are expected to return, though, so that's a plus! Michael B. Jordan has also been rumored to be up for a part in the movie.

In a day filled with controversial and rumoured casting choices, this one probably won’t fire up the klaxons as much as it might. And for now, it’s still more rumour than reality, but according to The Wrap, Liam Hemsworth has an offer to star in the Independence Day sequel, currently titled ID Forever. The sequel to the 1996 alien invasion film has been bubbling away in the development pods for, well, seemingly forever. There have been various versions proposed, talk of two films shot back-to-back and endless rumours about who might return to star. With Will Smith out of the picture for now and Jeff Goldblum and Bill Paxton apparently set to return, director Roland Emmerich is looking for a new star and Hemsworth might just be it. There’s no word on what his character might be, but that’s not even worth considering unless he actually signs on to the thing.

Independence Day 2 is really happening this time. Twentieth Century Fox has officially given the green light to the sequel, setting it up for a June 24, 2016 release.
The studio is hoping to start production next May. Director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, White House Down) is in talks to helm the movie, and according to Deadline, is close to signing a deal. As was previously reported, Will Smith is not coming back for the sequel. Other casting will begin as soon as Emmerich is officially signed on.
Carter Blanchard rewrote the first draft of the script that was done by Emmerich and Dean Devlin, and then James Vanderbilt. Emmerich is also set to produced with Devlin and Harald Kloser.
The sequel will hit theaters nearly 20 years after the original. It'll be interested to see how the studio and director give this old story a new spin, and without Smith as the star.

Roland Emmerich will once again be directing. He even gave the first draft of the screenplay a whirl alongside Dean Devlin. It was then handed to James Vanderbilt who sprinkled in some of the screenwriting genius that made Zodiac and The Amazing Spider-Man so compelling. However 20th Century Fox still had some issues; so, Carter Blanchard did another draft, which was finally approved by the studio. Other than that...

Part of Roland Emmerich’s concept for rebooting the Independence Day franchise involves dishing out a pair of sequels with horrible titles. The other biggest element in his masterplan to reacquaint Earthings with an alien race who want us to “diiiiiiiiiiiiie” is bringing back his stars. After all, the first outing was chiefly responsible for launching Will Smith’s film career – possibly for the alien punch sequence alone. Sadly, after much deliberation the smart-mouthed Fresh Prince has said he won’t be back. But Smith’s co-pilot in the unfriendly skies, Jeff Goldblum, seems to be involved. Sort of.
Way back in June of 2013, Emmerich said with confidence that Goldblum and Bill Pullman would be returning to reprise their roles. Since then, we’ve had much talk of Smith’s possible return, but little on the other two big hitters… until now.
