When it comes to rewarding the best comedic cast on television, the SAG Awards often simply go with the biggest cast. Recent winners like “Orange is the New Black” (2014-2016), “Glee” (2009), “Desperate Housewives” (2004-2005) and “Ally McBeal” (1998) all prevailed thanks in part to having the most cast members on the voting ballot. Interestingly enough, all four of these were also hour-long dramedies, which suggests SAG voters are more apt to give the prize to large casts when they’re also in large productions.
What does this statistic mean in terms of predicting the 2018 SAG Awards? “Orange is the New Black” once again boasts the biggest comedy cast with a record-setting 45 men and women nominated for the Netflix prison series. That’s up from 37 cast members in 2016, 34 in 2015, and 40 in 2014. Of this year’s other nominated ensembles, Netflix’s “Glow” consists of 18 cast members, followed by HBO’s “Veep” at 15, ABC...

Showgirls is reportedly the biggest-selling MGM DVD of all time. So how did it go from flop to hit?
In the build up to the release of Paul Verhoeven's now-infamous 1997 movie, Showgirls, the signs were looking positive. Uniting the creative team - Verhoeven and writer Joe Eszterhas - who had generated the gigantic hit, Basic Instinct, MGM was gearing itself up for a further success. In the run up to the film's release, the Showgirls website was proving to be one of the most successful to date on the-then burgeoning public world wide web, with over a million people accessing the site. This at a point where AOL had barely pressed a million of those infamous CD-ROMs promoting its service, we'd wager.
So confident was MGM that it had a must-see movie on its hands that it didn't insist on Showgirls being cut for an R-rating. As such, it...

The 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations were revealed Wednesday morning, serving as yet another precursor on the long road to the Oscars.
In the film categories, Birdman was the big winner, scoring four nominations, including for Michael Keaton, Edward Norton and Emma Stone, as well as the collective ensemble cast. Boyhood followed right in its footsteps with three nods for Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and another ensemble nomination.
The big surprises of the morning’s nominations started with Jake Gyllenhaal for Nightcrawler, a bubble contender in a crowded Best Actor race, Jennifer Aniston for Cake, a bubble contender in a disappointingly less crowded Best Actress race, Robert Duvall in the poorly reviewed The Judge and Naomi Watts for St. Vincent (Watts was in Birdman as well, but that must’ve slipped SAG’s minds).

As some of you may know, I'm a bit of a jack(ass) of all trades. I follow the film industry for Lr, and critique films. But I'm also an actor, I front a rock band, I'm a DJ, film editor, and director as well. Basically, when it comes to entertainment, there's nothing I don't do. For some time now, I've been mulling over bringing some of my other interests to Lr, and I'll be starting with the SAG Awards. How? Well, I've been a member of SAG for 6 years now and I also am part of the voting process. That means every year I am sent screeners of all the films being considered for awards.
Here's where a new running feature comes into play:
As I start receiving these screeners, I will write special reviews for each one and publish them here. Then, as we near the voting deadline,...

Rejoice, "Orange Is the New Black" fans: Your first look at Season 2 has finally arrived!
Netflix has released the first three images from the highly-anticipated new season -- and if they're any indication of what's to come, our favorite ladies of Litchfield Correctional are in for another wild ride.
As the image above reveals, it seems Season 2 will pick up right where the first left off, dealing with the aftermath of Piper's (Taylor Schilling) brutal beatdown of Pennsatucky (Taryn Manning). Yes, that's blood on her hands, but Manning is returning for Season 2, so Pennsatucky's likely not dead -- just a little battered.
In this photo, we get a glimpse at the prison's mock job fair, with Danielle Brooks, Lin Tucci, Natasha Lyonne, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Emma Myles and Laverne Cox modeling a vast array of professional attire -- much of it not exactly office appropriate.
And in the final photo,...

"Orange Is The New Black" is easily the biggest new hit of the summer, and the groundbreaking Netflix series from "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan has introduced us to a bevy of unconventional TV actresses.
From transgender inmate Sophia Burset (played by transgender actress Laverne Cox) to prison womanizer Carrie "Big Boo" Black (play by proud butch actress Lea DeLaria), "Orange Is The New Black" has brought true diversity to the medium.
DeLaria, who's appeared on shows like "Friends" and "Matlock" and in films like "The First Wives Club," stopped by HuffPost Live this week to chat about her role that almost wasn't (video above).
"I went in for this part [as a correctional officer]. I made the tape. I sent it to them. They got back to us saying, 'Love her [but] we want to look at her somewhere else because the correctional officer was a small role. So then I went in and read...
