If an advertisement autoplays for a bot on a site that’s not publicly listed or indexed by search engines, does anyone see it? According to Google, the answer is yes, which has led to a purported class action against the company that claims it overcharges advertisers for the “privilege of autoplaying their advertisements into the void.”
A suit filed against the Alphabet-owned company on Wednesday accuses the tech giant of misleading advertisers about its “TrueView” ad program by inflating metrics on its ads, which are allegedly displayed as muted, autoplaying videos and served on unlisted webpages in violation of promised standards.
TrueView is Google’s “proprietary cost-per-view, choice-based ad format that serves on YouTube, millions of apps, and across the web,” in which advertisers only pay for actual views rather than impressions. The ads ask users if they want to skip the video after 5 seconds. Google’s policies...

When people talk about the magic of cinema, they’re usually not referring to monologues. More often than not, it’s the awe-inspiring visuals and imaginary worlds brought to life that give the phrase “movie magic” the ring of truth. None of that would be possible without visual effects, an ever-evolving field that pushes filmmakers like James Cameron and Peter Jackson further and further in their quest to create that special spark.

He’s now at over 114,000 active subscriptions, has 4.5 million followers, and averages more than 67,000 viewers per stream, according to data from StreamsCharts.
Cenat’s current Twitch project is a 30-day marathon livestream, where he’s broadcasting 24 hours a day, every day, until March 2. UTA says the first 24 hours of his marathon stream drew 6.4 million unique viewers who watched for a collective 683 million minutes.

Sometimes, right and wrong aren't as clear-cut as we would like.
Law & Order Season 22 Episode 3 demonstrated this nicely with a horrific crime that turned into a debate over the death penalty.
Price wanted to get justice for New Yorkers, but did he betray his ideals to do it?
This story did what Law & Order does best. It ripped current events from the headlines and weaved them into a complex tale that left viewers with more questions than answers about moral issues.
The violence that Price witnessed at the tail end was truly horrific. When he entered that subway station, he wasn't prepared for the blood and the sheer number of dead and dying people.

His hands were so full of blood from trying to help one of the victims that the cops mistook him for the shooter.

The 90th Academy Awards has concluded and I think a lot of movie geeks are happy with the way things played out! I couldn't be more excited to see Guillermo del Toro win Best Director and his film The Shape of Water win Best Picture of the year!
We also saw Gary Oldman win Best Actor, which he definitely deserved! Frances McDormand, took home the Best Actress Award and Sam Rockwell won for Best Supporting Actor for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Then there was Jordan Peele, who won Best Original Screenplay for Get Out, which so freakin' cool!
Personally, the one film that I didn't think should have won was Call Me By Your Name for Best Adapted Screenplay. Molly's Game, Logan, Mudbound, and The Disaster Artist were all better films with better scripts!
Below you'll find a full list of the nominees with the winners bolded. Are you happy with the winners?...

A self-described science-fiction fan, visual effects supervisor John Nelson saw a "dream gig" and rare opportunity in Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049. Getting the chance to work on a sequel to a revered sci-fi film—one of the pillars of the genre—Nelson would construct surreal cityscape shots out of real aerial footage shot across the globe, while exploring holograms in all their various visual representations. Specifically, in 2049, Nelson would create holograms of…...

Unlike the stunning CG recreation of Sean Young’s Rachael replicant in “Blade Runner 2049,” the Joi hologram played by Ana de Armas was more of an advanced analog creation. In fact, the directive from Denis Villeneuve was to have Joi alternate between looking realistic and artificial, depending on the emotional context for Ryan Gosling’s K, who customized her as more of a loving companion than pleasure model.
They recorded actress de Armas on set with Gosling from multiple angles with GoPros and Hdri lighting set up by Roger Deakins. Then Double Negative made a CG version and went through a lot of testing. However, finding the right look was difficult.
“Joi is a volume, a projection, and we looked at conventional holograms and didn’t really like them that much,” said John Nelson, the production visual effects supervisor. “We had to come up with something more subtle yet cooler than that.

“Blade Runner 2049” offered the most complex set of craft challenges yet for director Denis Villeneuve. He had an ambitious vision for picking up where Ridley Scott left off 30 years later, exploring dystopia, humanity, and memory in a way that was linked personally, emotionally, and intellectually. And that entailed a much more involved collaborative process with master cinematographer Roger Deakins, production designer Dennis Gassner, and the rest of the below-the-line team.
But it first began with lighting, and, for the first time, Villeneuve worked out a thematic visual plan with Deakins that drove the narrative about Ryan Gosling’s blade runner/replicant K becoming “more human than human.” And this visual journey enabled the movie to have a hypnotic, dream-like quality. It began with the opening of Ana’s eye (the memory designer played by Carla Juri) and concluded with K’s last waking, cathartic moment in the snow.

“Blade Runner 2049” hasn’t proven to be the moneymaker many were hoping for, but it has inspired a great deal of affection from much of its audience. Sean Young’s replicant Rachael is iconic to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic Blade Runner — which made it all the more challenging when director Denis Villeneuve tasked veteran VFX supervisor John Nelson to bring the character back with the exact early look in a scene in Blade Runner 2049.
This task again demonstrates that Hollywood’s visual effects community wants to advance digital human work, which is still widely considered to be the most difficult of VFX feats, as it is something so nuanced and familiar — a human face. One of the great surprises of “Blade Runner 2049” was a stunning CG recreation of the Rachael replicant played by Sean Young in the original movie. The two-minute sequence brings an emotionally stirring reunion with Harrison Ford’s Deckard that required technical virtuosity and subtle performance. This major step in digital human animation should be rewarded with a VFX Oscar nomination.
Body double Loren Peta played the young Rachael (in costume, makeup, and with dotted face) and performed on set with Ford and Jared Leto (as replicant manufacturer Wallace). She was directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Young on set as well for reference. The goal was to merge the two into a perfect replica.

It's the end of the world as we know it, and Brad Pitt does not feel fine. The trailer for "World War Z" has arrived, and judging by the devastation wreaked in the above video, it doesn't bode well for humankind. The film, loosely inspired by the Max Brooks book of the same name, stars Pitt as a United Nations employee who might be the only person who can stop the zombie apocalypse.
Once you watch the trailer, you'll notice that these aren't the same types of zombies that we all are used to seeing. Unlike the slow zombies in "Night of the Living Dead" or fast zombies in "28 Days Later," these creatures swarm around the world, seemingly taking out everything in their paths.
"They are like predatory animals that can't control themselves," visual special effects supervisor John Nelson tells Entertainment Weekly. "I worked with tigers [while shooting 'Gladiator'], and if you watch...

Is it fast? Is it undead? Does it swarm? It's... a zombie?
The upcoming adaptation of World War Z has suffered through a series of what seemed like bad news lately, starting with Paramount delaying the movie until 2013. Then came word of reshoots, followed by the news that screenwriters Damon Lindelof (Lost, Prometheus) and Drew Goddard (co-writer and director of Cabin in the Woods) were brought in to help fix the movie's ending, followed by the rumor that star and producer Brad Pitt was no longer on speaking terms with director Marc Forster(Quantum of Solace).
Finally, some good news has arrived for World War Z. The first trailer has been released, and it doesn't look like a movie in trouble. Fans of Max Brooks' best-selling novel are instantly going to be disappointed that the book's flashback structure has been abandoned for a linear one, and zombie fans will...

Zombies are so hot right now. And lest we be worried about an over-saturation of the undead walkers in pop culture at the moment, we're still psyched about Brad Pitt's foray into the genre with "World War Z."
Thankfully, there's a new trailer and "Entertainment Weekly" has a brand new photo from the film to tide us over until we get to see more of the zombie hoards hunting our hero Pitt.
Check out the photo and the trailer for "World War Z" after the jump!
The photo shows Pitt, as United Nations researcher Gerald Lane, in the midst of what looks like a panicked crowd trying to escape the threat of an imminent zombie attack. Not to compare and contrast or bring up old zombie movies, but this photo reminds me a lot of the scene in Will Smith's "I Am Legend" in which Smith's character is...

Earlier this week we got our first look at the Marc Forster’s zombie apocalypse film World War Z.
This time we can offer the full-length theatrical promo with more CGI hordes and less of individual members of the walking dead unlike other zombie movie you’ve seen before.
Penned by Matthew Michael Carnahan and Damon Lindelof, based on the book by Max Brooks, the new movie with the troubled production stars Brad Pitt as Gerry Lane, a U.N. employee who finds himself traveling around the world to try and discover the origin of a zombie plague and stop a worldwide zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.
Visual effects supervisor John Nelson (Iron Man) told EW about the undead on this film:

Forget the troubled production, forget the rewrites and forget the reshoots. All that matters is what ends up on the big screen, and "World War Z" is ready to show off the goods. But can it escape its very-public problems as it heads toward the finish line? The first trailer for the Brad Pitt starring film, (very loosely) based on the book by Max Brooks and directed by Marc Forster is here, but is it the Jason Bourne meets "The Walking Dead" vibe the director and studio were hoping for? Well, it's certainly fast moving and aiming for an epic scope, even if the zombies remain somewhat undefined as a mass of moving CGI. These zombies are obviously a lot more feral than the slow, plodding ones you usually see on screen, though still different from the "infected" in Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" series. “They are like predatory animals that can’t control themselves,...

The full trailer for World War Z is expected to drop in a few hours, and in the meantime we have a new still featuring Brad Pitt along with a few comments from visual effects supervisor John Nelson about the type of zombies we'll see in the film.
EW provided the still and the following info:
Pitt plays Gerald Lane, a United Nations researcher watching civilization teeter on collapse in the face of a rapacious army of rasping death. How can the relentless hordes be stopped? To answer that question, Lane accepts a mission that pulls him away from his wife (Mireille Enos) and family and sends him on a global search for the plague’s dark origins — and, yes, that fact-finding odyssey just might take three PG-13 films to complete, if World War Z gets a lively response at the box office.

We had heard that the big-budget adaptation of Max Brooks’s zombie novel World War Z was in trouble with the recent rewrite, reshoots, and release date change, but apparently there’s a lot more to the story.
The Hollywood Reporter recently heard a number of details from a source close to the production about the extensive problems that have plagued the film, chief among them being the director, Marc Forster. Forster, who was Brad Pitt’s choice to direct, had apparently had trouble from the start with major decisions being left unmade such as how the zombies wold look and move.
You may recall Forster’s name from such films as Monster’s Ball, Stranger Than Fiction, and Finding Neverland. However, he also attempted the action genre with the James Bond film Quantum of Solace, where his inexperience clearly showed in the poorly-shot action sequences. It’s being said...

The road to get the big screen adaptation of the Max Brooks novel World War Z into theatres has been as bumpy as we have ever seen. Prop seizures. Reshoots. Rewrites. You name it, this production has suffered through it. Insiders close to the flick have already started dishing dirt.
The Hollywood Reporter recently ran an article in which said insiders fill in some of the blanks of exactly what happened that sent this project flying off the rails.
Per THR:
“A nightmare from top to bottom,” describes one source with ties to the production, which appears to have been hampered from the outset by a lack of clear creative direction. Pitt hired the director of his choosing, Marc Forster (The Kite Runner, Finding Neverland), but Forster -- who has limited experience on effects-heavy tentpoles -- was not allowed to bring along his usual team. Instead, several more seasoned players were hired.
