If you’ve been keeping any eye on the BBFC website this news won’t come as that much of a surprise… However, Lionsgate UK have officially announced today the launch of the Vestron Collectors Series line of Blu-rays here in the UK! Yes, no longer will you have to fork over £30-40 to import the well-received Vestron Blus, instead you can get them right here in Blighty. The catch? It looks, at least from this announcement, that we won’t be getting All the Vestron titles – after all, there’s no Waxwork 2 included on the UK Blu.

Not all C.H.U.D. are created equal.
Within weeks of Arrow Video’s special edition Blu-ray of the original C.H.U.D.—still the best movie ever made about New York’s homeless being transformed by toxic waste into cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers—Lionsgate’s new(ish) Vestron Video Collector’s Series adds its 1989 sequel, C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud, to its growing library of collectible Blu-rays. The completist in me is happy to have both available in the best possible format. The supportive horror fan in me is happy for the film’s fans, who finally get to put a high-def version of a movie they adore on their shelves. The movie lover in me would be perfectly okay not seeing it again.
C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud is what Fred Dekker’s Night of the Creeps might be if it weren’t any good.

Created as part of Justin Lin’s Yomfyom contest, Jimmy Lui’s (of Black Mast Studios) The Hopping Dead aims to terrify its audience to the bone. Read on for more details and to watch the short film in its entirety. Also in today’s Highlights: Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn Blu-ray release details as well as preview pages and cover artwork for Prometheus: Life and Death #3.
Watch Jimmy Lui’s Short Film The Hopping Dead: “The film was shot for Justin Lin’s Yomfyom filmmakers competition. It’s an homage to cult John Carpenter films like “Big Trouble in Little China and “They Live.” There’s also a nod to the classic old martial arts films featuring Sammo Hung. Lin’s competition had 2 rules. The film had to be less than 3 minutes running time and we could only use 4 lines of pre-selected dialogue — other than that there were no stipulations.

From the 1970’s and 80’s to now, one thing will always be a sad constant: bullies will always exist. And there will always be that weak-willed teenager who is the constant target of these awful people. But, there’s always this fulfillment that comes about from films like Patrick and Carrie, that the bullied kid has a tendency to lash out at those who oppress them with otherworldly forces. These kids search outward for any escape and that leads them to some very dark corners. In the case of Evilspeak, that dark corner is The Devil himself, and the results are typically gory and fantastically outrageous.

This is the second year for the Makeup and Hairstylists Guild joining the awards game, and they've been a welcome addition to the circuit. They spread their nods thin across a number of categories, but it's a good window into what this branch digs, for sure. This year, the only two films on the Academy's bake-off list of finalists that didn't garner any recognition were "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Noah." Meaning "Foxcatcher," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Guardians of the Galaxy," "Maleficent" and "The Theory of Everything" were each represented in one form or another. Meanwhile, "Guardians of the Galaxy" led with the most mentions at three, while "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Interstellar" and "Into the Woods" each got a pair. As previously announced, Oscar-winning make-up artist Rick Baker and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Kathryn Blondell will receive the Guild's Lifetime Achievement Awards. I think the late 70s and into the 80s is my favourite Roger Corman era. Many people disagrees with me on that, of course. His 60s output is awesome (particularly if you're an exploitation nut), but if you're a straight genre fan and dig on cult scifi, horror or creatures features it really doesn't get any better than this period.
The reason for this era of great output is because of three films: Jaws, Alien and Star Wars. When these films came out, Corman realized the studios had started making His kind of movie and were making them bigger and better. This forced Corman to sink more money and talent into the genre films he was producing and in some of...

In one of the many special features packed onto this loaded blu-ray, actor James Karen, who plays the hapless Frank, recounts a story of going to Greece and being greeted with "Send more cops" by one of the locals. If that doesn't speak to the unlikely longevity of this movie, then I'm not sure what does.
This unauthorized semi-sequel to George Romero's zombie trilogy bowed the same year as Day of the Dead and to my mind remains the superior film. Whereas Romero's film was treading some of the same ground as its precursor Dawn of the Dead, O'bannon's Return dove headlong into postmodern territory, expertly walking the fine line between comedy and horror, bringing something new to the walking dead genre while still observing what makes a good zombie picture work.

When people think of Roger Corman, they think of two things: camp filled films with copious amounts of blood and skin, and Death Race 2000. However, hoping to help change that is the genius collective known as Shout! Factory.

Both are solid winners here, but the true king of the pair here is Galaxy Of Terror.
The film follows the crew of a rescue ship, who while on a mission, come into contact with a group of monsters. However, these aren’t just your run of the mill beasts. These monsters are bread from th very subconscious of each member of the crew,...

My courtship with 1973’s Terror Circus, a.k.a. Barn Of The Naked Dead, began in 1997, my junior year of high school. I was young and in love with a beautiful girl, Sarah, who would eventually become my wife. We were frolicking around town on one gorgeous Sunday afternoon when I stumbled upon the latest edition of John Stanley’s book Creature Features in some mega-bookstore. Stanley’s compelling description of Circus enchanted me for years to come:
“The humiliation of women reaches an all-time exploitation low in this first-feature effort from director Alan Rudolph, who went on to direct major Hollywood features… This has no redeeming values in depicting depraved Andrew Prine, a desert hermit with a mother fixation who kidnaps stranded women and ties them up in his barn… Out in the toolshed, meanwhile, there’s a mutated monster (caused by Nevada nuclear tests) that likes to break out and kill.

For older horror fans who remember sneaking behind the "special curtain" at the local video joint to see Death staring back at us, it is a special memory. Oh, the number of times I got beaten for sneaking Faces of Death home.
Last month we revealed plans from Red Shirt Pictures in regard to a very special edition DVD of the original Faces of Death. Red Shirt is currently handling the special features while Gorgon Video itself will be distributing the taboo classic to the masses.
But ... when is it going to come out? What better time than around Halloween? How about a few weeks before Samhain? Hell yes! Faces of Death Se will be celebrating its 30-year anniversary on both DVD and Blu-ray on October 7th!
The bonus features will include:
