This past summer, as Hollywood faced its second major strike, the president of actors union SAG-AFTRA took the podium. She was without makeup, she was raspy and she was pissed. Gone was the ozone-shattering hairspray and the wild prints plucked right from the zoo. Nowhere in earshot was the dog whistle voice and the dolphin laugh. This was Fran Drescher: not the street-smart bimbo of somehow successful sitcoms and expectedly by-the-numbers romances, but the woman who will do anything to show her loyalty and not back down from anything. She had done it throughout her career through battles with industry execs and cancer, and now she was doing it against some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Wtf Happened to…Fran Drescher?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Fran Drescher, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on September 30th,...

The Outer Critics Circle (Occ), the official organization of writers on New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers and national publications, today announced the nominees for the 72nd Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2022-2023 Broadway and Off-Broadway season.
“New York, New York” received a major backing from this announcement, which coincides with the production’s opening night. The new musical with songs from John Kander, the late Fred Ebb and Lin-Manuel Miranda earned a whopping 12 nominations, the most of any production. “Some Like it Hot” trails just behind it with 10 nominations. The most nominated plays of the season are the Off-Broadway sensation “Downstate” and Broadway epic “Leopoldstadt,” both with six nominations apiece.
This is the first season with newly reconstructed acting categories, which have removed gender specifications, and have been expanded to separately include off-Broadway performers. In the previous configuration, actors in Broadway and off-Broadway productions competed in the same category.

Bryan Callen, a standup comedian and star of ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by four women in a report published by the Los Angeles Times.
Callen is alleged to have raped Katherine Fiore Tigerman, an actor and comedian whose credits include the TBS series “Wedding Band,” in 1999. Another woman, Rachel Green, alleges that Callen tried to force himself on her during an encounter which took place in an American Apparel fitting room in 2009.
The most recent allegation is from 2017 when Tiffany King, a comedian who previously performed at the same club as Callen, alleges that he offered her stage time and money in exchange for sexual favors.
Callen is best known for playing high school gym teacher Rick Mellor in “The Goldbergs” and more prominently in its recently-canceled spinoff series “Schooled.” Sources close to “The Goldbergs” say that Callen will not appear in...

TV shows have found many different ways over the years to work around the pregnancy of their actresses. Sometimes, they do lots of episodes where their characters are always sitting behind a desk, or holding a giant purse, or (in a memorable "Cheers" episode when Shelley Long was pregnant) trapped in an air conditioning duct. "The X-Files" had Scully get abducted, while "Frasier" simply suggested that Daphne had just put on a lot of weight. "New Girl" is taking a multi-pronged approach for its next season. The first five episodes were filmed at the end of production for last season, and to allow the show to resume production while Zoey Deschanel is on maternity leave, Jess will be sequestered on jury duty for a few episodes. A weak few first episodes for a TV show can often be enough to kill it even if it manages to substantially improve three to four episodes in, and that's exactly what happened to Wedding Band. Admittedly based on something of a gimmick of a premise with each episode seeing the titular group (Brian Austin Green, Peter Cambor, Derek Miller, Harold Perrineau) play a random event covering hit songs in creative and eclectic fashion, Wedding Band evolved into something with genuine comedy potential fairly quickly. As supporting cast Melora Hardin (from Us's The Office) and Jenny Wade gradually began to play bigger parts in the episodes, the exchanges between the six protagonists began to really take off. It's sad, but Wedding Band was a punchy comedy with a great cast that lost its viewers before it could prove it deserved another season.

Finally, we have an Anger Management story for you that isn’t intensely negative. The FX comedy is missing its female lead right now, and there are only 3 episodes left in season 2. But Charlie Sheen’s on screen arch nemesis is acted by Brian Austin Green, who we have learned is now upgraded to series regular status.
Green is the object of Charlie’s loathing because he is Charlie’s ex-wife’s current boyfriend and beating him to a bloody pulp has also gotten Charlie into hot water. The character was introduced in the series’ first episode last year, reminded Deadline and recently came on back to the set for two more episodes this season, which were part of Anger Management‘s 90-episode back order.
The show really has had some wild and cool guest stars, including Sheen’s real life dad, Martin Sheen, and his real life ex Denise Richards.

Selma Blair is out. Brian Austin Green is in.
Just days after Charlie Sheen forced out Blair as his co-star, the FX hit has promoted Green, who debuted last season as Sean, the boyfriend of Charlie's ex-wife Jen.
Green - the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum who was last seen on TBS' Wedding Band - will serve as an antagonist to Sheen's main character. Look for him to pop up again around midseason of Season 2.
The sitcom, meanwhile, is also seeking to cast a "sexy" new female lead to replace Blair, according to network insider. All we know at the moment is that this new love interest will not be a therapist like Sheen's troubled lead.

"Beverly Hills 90210" alum Brian Austin Green has been upgraded from guest star to full-time regular on the FX comedy "Anger Management."
Green first appeared as Sean, the nemesis of Charlie Goodson (Charlie Sheen), in the show's premiere episode and recently returned in the episodes "Charlie Breaks Up with Kate" and "Charlie & the Secret Gigolo."
"Anger Management" is going through a bit of a shake-up following the dramatic departure of co-star Selma Blair.
The series -- Sheen's follow-up to CBS hit "Two and a Half Men" -- has also suffered from disappointing ratings after FX gave it a 90 episode order following a 10 episode trial run.
Green recently starred on the TBS comedy "Wedding Band," which was canceled after a single season, and guest starred on ABC's also canceled "Happy Endings."...

Exclusive: Tony Optican is leaving FremantleMedia North America after a four-year stint as head of the company’s scripted programming division. I hear his contract was up and was not renewed. Fmna is already looking for a replacement for Optican as well as for VP scripted development Holly Hines who just left to head scripted development and production for Participant Media’s new cable network. Under Optican, Fmna landed one series on the air, TBS’ dramedy Wedding Band, which was recently cancelled after one season. Fmna gets a co-producer credit on the CW/Warner Bros. TV pilot The Tomorrow People as the original format is part of its catalog. Mining that catalog for scripted Us series will likely be among the priorities for Optican’s successor. Before joining Fmna, Optican was Svp of original programming at Sci Fi Channel and VP of current programming at Fox.

It’s been almost three weeks since Cougar Town returned to us, and its fourth season proves the series is better than ever.
Despite being one of the best comedies on TV, Cougar Town gets unfairly overlooked. Sure, it’s not as popular as ABC’s Modern Family or as grounded as NBC’s Parks and Recreation, but it effectively mixes goofiness and pop culture with pathos every week — a difficult combination to pull off.
So why has it struck out with a lot of TV viewers? Much of it probably has to do with its first season and title, as neither is indicative of what Cougar Town has become over the past few years. Ever since the show stopped focusing on...

The party is over for "Wedding Band." The TBS musical comedy starring Brian Austin Green aired its final episode on Saturday (Jan. 19) and will not return for a second season on the cable network.
This story of four guys who perform cover songs at weddings may have been doomed from the start. Airing at 10pm on Saturdays -- possibly the worst "prime-time" slot available -- "Wedding Band" never managed to top 2 million total viewers at any point in its run. Only 1.4 million tuned in for the finale (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
Also appearing with Green on the show were a mix of familiar and unfamiliar TV faces. Melora Hardin ("The Office," "Monk"), Harold Perrineau ("Lost"), Jenny Wade ("Reaper," "The Good Guys"), Peter Cambor ("NCIS: Los Angeles") and Derek Miller co-starred in the 10-episode series. Although the show also attracted some big-name guest stars -- including Green's wife Megan Fox -- viewers never followed.
