A chill air blows through the small Quebecois village of Irénée-les-Neiges following a young man’s suicide, bringing with it unexpected and largely unwelcome visitors. Denis Côté’s “Ghost Town Anthology” has superficial parallels to Robin Campillo’s “They Came Back,” in which the dead return, but in keeping with the maverick Canadian’s style, his film is a more intimate, more unsettling work that approaches narrative elliptically: Mysteries remain mysteries, and the value isn’t in finding answers but in emotionally exploring where the questions take you. Shot on 16mm for a suitable graininess, “Ghost Town” is a largely monochrome ensemble piece that muses on, rather than directly addresses, the current hot topics of the “other” and the viability of small-town life. Skirting genre formulas, the film takes a more modest approach than “Vic + Flo Saw a Bear,” and though more universal/accessible, will require intelligent marketing to...

There's nothing you can't do when you're in Miami. As Jay-z continues his 4:44 tour across the country, the rapper was able to enjoy some family time with wife Beyoncé and his extended family. The power couple was spotted having lunch on a boat cruise around Miami with their daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Beyoncé wore vintage style sunglasses for the ride while Jay-z kept things casual in a white T-shirt and baseball cap. "They went out together in the afternoon around 2 p.m. They rode around on the boat around Miami Beach and the surrounding area," an eyewitness shared with E! News. In this year’s foreign-language race, a number of Lgbt-oriented titles are vying for attention. France’s Bpm (Beats Per Minute), directed by Robin Campillo, could be the favorite: a rich, sensual, impassioned study of early AIDS activism and gay awakening in Paris, it took the Grand Prix at Cannes and has been winning hearts on the festival circuit and kudos from critics.
After Cannes, Bpm (Beats Per Minute) played Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival among others, winning many awards along the way.
“Impassioned and deeply absorbing. Notable for both its hot-blooded sensuality and its intricate, bittersweet play with memory.”
- Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times
“Broadly enlightening and piercingly intimate. A vital contribution to queer and political cinema. Campillo has given his movie the breath of true life. It grieves and triumphs and haunts with abounding grace and understanding, its heartbeat thumping with genuine, undeniable resonance.

Director and co-writer Ron Campillo, himself an Act Up alum, uses a documentary approach to set the scene of youthful armies openly challenging a system that yawns as their casualties mount. Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough may be engaged, but that doesn’t mean Brzezinski wants to discuss the dirty details on television.
During the Morning Joe couple’s Thursday appearance on The View, they were asked a series of questions about their relationship, starting with the obvious: How does a couple who has to be together all day long make it work?
“Honestly?” Brzezinski asked.
“You know, they say that absence makes the heart go fonder,” Scarborough began, before Brzezinski interjected, “We wouldn’t know what that feels like.”
Still, she added, “it’s fun.”

David Ellison first created Skydance Productions for his own 2005 directorial debut When All Else Fails, but Skydance Media really started making waves in 2010 when it teamed up with Paramount Pictures for the Coen Brothers Western True Grit.
It went on to become the highest grossing Western ever and cemented the relationship between Skydance Media with Paramount who teamed-up for World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and other franchises like Star Trek and 2014’s Terminator: Genisys. (Obviously, some of those movies did better than others.)
For his new science fiction movie Life, based on an idea that Ellison came up with, he’s teamed with Sony Pictures, bringing together a cast that includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds and Rebecca Ferguson as part of the crew of the International Space Station who must examine a sample of life that’s been brought back from Mars.

Janet Jackson is borrowing a page from Princess Kate‘s baby notebook!
The singer, 50, who welcomed her first son, Eissa, into the world on Jan. 3, recently stopped by fashionable baby boutique Blue Almonds (a favorite of Princess Kate’s while she was carrying Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 1) in upmarket Kensington.
“Janet looked great,” an onlooker tells People. “She was in the shop for around half an hour and just went about her business. She was really relaxed and healthy.”
And though Jackson is in the exhausting early days of motherhood, “she didn’t look tired at all,” adds the onlooker.

Your Name is the most remarkable success story in Japanese cinema in the last decade. As of writing, it’s the seventh highest-grossing cinema release in the country’s history, and the fourth highest-grossing Japanese film. And it’s pretty much come from nowhere. While Your Name’s director, Makoto Shinkai, has been making critically acclaimed animated films since 2002, they were modest releases commercially. Your Name has been more than a hundred times as successful, which Shinkai says unnerves him.
An animated romcom and fantasy, Your Name’s two main characters are Taki, a teenage boy who lives in Tokyo, and Mitsuha, a girl who lives in the remote Japanese countryside. Suddenly, these seemingly unrelated youngsters start swapping bodies on random days, so that Taki sometimes wakes up “as” Mitsuha in Mitsuha’s country home, and Mitsuha sometimes wakes up “as” Taki in Tokyo. At first both Mitsuha and Taki are shocked,...

Chicago – Like improvisational jazz, the performance career of Don Cheadle has many moods, directions and shadings. For his latest film, he takes on the titles of co-writer and director, along with the lead role of music legend Miles Davis. This all comes together is the aptly titled “Miles Ahead.”
Cheadle applies a different kind of music biography spin, with a centerpiece story about Davis that operates as a mythical framework for the musician’s life story, told in a loose flashback format. The cinematic structure is jazzy and kinetic, and it moves forward with an energy all of its own, driven by the frenetic soundtrack of the man himself. As a director, Cheadle has crafted something outside the norm, a visual blend that could be at home within the florid sweep of a Miles Davis composition.

If you watched The Walking Dead last night, then you saw a cameo of Johnny Depp's head and didn't even know it!
There are some light spoilers ahead in case you didn't see the episode yet:
In last night's episode, Rick devises a plan to infiltrate a part of Negan's compound to straight up murder him and his followers. To help get their foot in the door they needed a severed head that that somewhat resembled the Hilltop leader Gregory. So Rick sent a couple people out to cut off the heads of a few Walkers that bore a resemblance. They came back with three different heads to choose from.
One of the heads was modeled after executive producer Greg Nicotero and another one of the heads was modeled after Depp. Nicotero revealed this bit of trivia in an interview with EW and explained how it all happened, saying:...

Fabrice Gobert, the French creator of supernatural drama The Returned, speaks good English. An inevitability of using a second language though, is the odd grammatical slip. One such slip made by Gobert at the press launch for The Returned series two is too perfect to let pass by. A pitfall of writing fantasy TV, Gobert said, is that “you can lost yourself”.
Add a capital letter to the ‘l’ word, and you can say that again.
During its enviably long run, Lost became both the high and low benchmark for atmospheric, existentially fraught TV dramas. Its early seasons gripped viewers, but its later runs frustrated many by failing to achieve the perfect ratio of mysteries to answers. That’s the tricky challenge The Returned is facing in series two.

The rise in critical acclaim for television shows over the years has been well-documented, with a corresponding rise in interest among viewers to discuss and analyse television the way films are at festivals. While festivals dedicated to television shows, such as Atx and PaleyFest, are on the rise, film festivals still outweigh them.
For its 2015 incarnation, however, the Toronto International Film Festival will be doing something unique, beginning a programme dedicated to television. Titled the Primetime Programme, the section of the festival will conduct screenings and Q&A sessions just like the films that play at Tiff, focusing on specific episodes of shows instead. The lineup for the inagural Primetime programme has now been announced, and can be seen below.

Just in time for Comic Con preview night, Idw has announced they will be releasing a "Back to the Future" comic book series with the first issue set to explain how Marty McFly met Doc Brown in 1982.

So that got me thinking about what we could do in a comic series that would fit squarely in the "Bttf Universe" but not feel like an attempt to do "Bttf Part 4" or "imitation Bttf" or "Btt: The Clone Saga."

Ever wonder what would happen if your loved ones returned from the dead? A&E’s The Returned, from Lost’s Carlton Cuse and True Blood’s Raelle Tucker, attempts to answer that question.
Adapted from the acclaimed French drama Les Revenants, The Returned is an English-language 10-episode retelling centered on the residents of a sleepy town whose lives are forever changed when people who had died years earlier suddenly reappear without warning. For those who may have seen the original series, The Returned isn’t necessarily rewriting the script – and they’re Ok with that.
“I feel like Carlton brought some of what made [Les Revenants] so engaging into the American version and added some things to make it uniquely its own,” star Mark Pellegrino tells ETonline. “There was the sense of mystery that pervades not only the universe but the characters. The show is unapologetic about not answering questions that you have. Even in the...

At the finale of Robin Campillo's masterful Eastern Boys, bourgeois, middle-aged Frenchman Daniel (Oliver Rabourdin) has overhauled his relationship with the Ukrainian hustler Marek (Kirill Emelyanov) into something totally unexpected. The journey to that climax is a rollercoaster of flirtation, betrayal, larceny, lust, love, dauntless deeds, comeuppance, and finally a benevolent acceptance of the pair's interconnectedness in a manner that neither of these devoted halves could foretell.
The film begins documentary-like, and you won't be able to guess who the lead characters are for the first ten minutes or so as the camera goes sightseeing amongst a bevy of young males meandering to and fro at a train station among self-absorbed travelers. Are the lads thieves or hustlers or just out for a lark? Some men eye them warily with a slight lust unsure of whether to approach or not. One station guard's suspicions are raised due the actions...

Just in time for Halloween, MTV has ordered a TV show based on the Scream horror franchise - though the Ghostface killer who so memorably terrorised the victims of Wes Craven's film series will notably be absent.
It seems that horror cinema remains a rich vein for television producers to tap. On top of the Scream news, it was reported back in August that NBC is working on its own version of Satanic thriller The Devil's Advocate.
But translating big-screens scares for television can be a tricky process and only a few movie chillers have survived the move in one piece.

The Returned has begun filming its second series.
The supernatural thriller - known as Les Revenants in its native France - started shooting earlier this week and will continue until March 20, 2015.
All of the original cast will return for eight new episodes, with actor Laurent Lucas also joining for series two.
Set six months after the conclusion of the first run, the new episodes will see Adele (Clotilde Hesme) about to give birth to Simon's (Pierre Perrier) child, while Lena (Jenna Thiam) and her father Jerome (Frederic Pierrot) search desperately for Claire (Anne Consigny) and Camille (Yara Pilartz).
Matters are complicated further when a stranger named Berg - who knows more than he claims - arrives into town. Worse still, a new wave of resurrections could be about to occur.
The show will return to Canal+ in late 2015. Channel 4 has confirmed that it will air series two in the UK,...

Satisfying the hunger of movie and television consumers in dire need of original content grows more difficult with each and every passing year. Not only do the people who produce content want to release more of the same, but the very fact of the matter is that nearly every story has already been told. What bold, creative new ideas can emerge in this early 21st century, where the quantity of the content grows exponentially at a dizzying rate? Making a television show that looks, sounds, and most importantly feels like no other is no small order. Ok let's recap. 'The Returned' (Aka 'Les Revenants') is a French horror series from Fabrice Gobert, which in turn is based upon Robin Campillo's 2004 French movie 'They Came Back'. ABC's 'Resurrection', although extremely similar in its premise, is based upon the novel 'The Returned' by American author Jason Mott. So if you're still following then AandE have thrown another hat into the mix by ordering a new 10-part Us remake based of 'Les Revenants'. I really don't think Us networks give their American audiences much credit whatsoever when it comes ot foreign imports. The original French series (which will continue later this year) is such a fantastic piece of TV which is incredibly compelling and flawlessly acted why a remake even needs to be considered is beyond me. Instead of plugging money into an unnecessary redo how about reeducating audiences instead.
