Movie director and producer Tony Scott, who helmed films including "Top Gun" and "Unstoppable," committed suicide Sunday afternoon (Aug. 19) by jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles.
Scott, 68, climbed a fence at the apex of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in L.A.'s San Pedro section and jumped "without hesitation," the county coroner's office tells the Daily Breeze newspaper.
A Coast Guard spokesperson tells the paper that a suicide note was found in Scott's car, which was parked on the bridge.

Scott, the younger brother of Ridley Scott, directed 16 feature films in his career, with his second film, "Top Gun," easily the best know. His credits also include "Beverly Hills Cop II," "True Romance," "Crimson Tide" and "Enemy of the State."

If you're a fan of Tony Scott, I can't see how you wouldn't be excited about this next project. Not only does it involve drug dealers, but it also involves submarines. True Romance meets Crimson Tide? Sold. The movie is called Narco Sub and revolves around "semi-submersible crafts South American drug cartels employ to smuggle cocaine into the U.S." I had no idea that this was even a thing, but it definitely sounds like it could be a cool backdrop for an action-thriller. The script was written by David Guggenheim (not the documentary director) and Twentieth Century Fox has acquired it and assigned Tony Scott to direct. Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, Jumper) will also produce. According to Deadline, the project is "described as reminiscent of Scott’s Crimson Tide and Man on Fire." I'm assuming that means it will be maintaining the same visual style as everything Scott...

Tony Scott has long lived in his brother Ridley's shadow, the usual rap being "Tony is style and Ridley is substance." But that hasn't stopped Tony from consistently delivering memorable, high-grossing movies like The Last Boy Scout, True Romance, Crimson Tide and last year's action hit Unstoppable. Coincidentally, "unstoppable" is a pretty good way of describing Tony Scott, especially if you look at his upcoming schedule.
Although Ridley has lately been looking back at his past with Prometheus, built from the ashes of the Alien mythos, and a recently announced new take on Blade Runner, Tony is looking firmly toward the future.
Deadline is reporting that Tony has several new films in mind. Hell's Angels, a flick based on the life of Hells Angels leader Sonny Barger, is being readied with Jeff Bridges planned to star. Tony is also hoping to remake The Wild Bunch, Sam Peckinpah's classic 1969 ultraviolent revisionist western.

So we've already reported that Top Gun: 2...or whatever they're going to call it, is definitely a thing. And that Tony Scott is to direct that thing. Scott's currently a busy dude; he's just announced plans to make Potsdamer Platz and Emma's War, with rumors he's planning to take on Mark Millar's Nemesis, and a version of The Associate that's hopefully not starring Shia Labeouf.
Despite all these lofty plans, it looks like, now that the Top Gun thing is really happening, Scott couldn't be more excited to take a break from making Intense-Denzel-Washington-Movies (the latest, Unstoppable, is out 12th November) and return to his career-making roots: Need-For-Speed-Tom-Cruise-Movies.
His abs better look exactly the same in Imax Digital 3D
But....that's not to say Tom Cruise will be in this movie, persay. Scott is tight-lipped on whether a slightly older, slightly more completely-insane Maverick will be featured in the new film,...

Tony Scott has most definitely not lost that loving feeling. The action-minded director has confirmed that he's locked in and ready to take wing as the director of "Top Gun 2."
Chatter of a "Top Gun" sequel began heating up about two weeks ago, when we caught wind of a very credible report that Paramount had approached director Scott, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and star Tom had been approached about reuniting for a follow-up to the 1986 airborne classic that marked Scott's first big blockbuster and set Cruise's career on a Mach-5 trajectory to instant superstardom.
Scott acknowledged that he would be directing "Top Gun 2" in an interview with Hit Fix at this weekend's junket for the runaway train blockbuster "Unstoppable." While Scott wouldn't address rumors of Cruise's involvement in a smaller role, he did expound upon his idea for a sequel, one that addresses just how much military aviation has changed in the past 25 years.

Novel adapted features are a dime a dozen, so when "Let the Right One In" director Tomas Alfredson signs up for one it's a bit more of the smart step to take on "Larklight". The Warner Bros period piece is off the novel written by Philip Reeve. Penning the script is Steve Knight who's previous written credits include "Dirty Pretty Things", "Easter Promises" and the upcoming film "Emma's War". "Larklight" is set in a Victorian-era alternate universe in which mankind has been exploring the solar system since the time of Isaac Newton and revolves around a brother and a sister who team with a band of renegade space pirates to save the world from destruction at the hands of a madman. Locked in to produce this feature is Denise Di Novi under Di Novi Pictures. At the moment Alfredson is in the middle of filming "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" that...

Normal 0 0 1 162 928 7 1 1139 11.0 It was recently announced that Tony Scott, the pyrotechnically-inclined Man On Fire director, would helm an adaptation of the ultraviolent Mark Millar-penned comic book Nemesis. Less than a month later the Kick-Ass creator is already talking up casting, and you can't say he's not reaching for the stars.
Millar told Empire he wants Johnny Depp to play the title character, a villainous reversal of the Batman mythos who dons a cape and cowl to commit crimes, and Brad Pitt for the heroic police officer Blake Morrow who Nemesis targets. "You couldn't do a movie like this any cheaper than $150 million," according to Millar. "It's going to go really big."
While we can certainly imagine Depp playing a flamboyant anti-hero, who blows up a Tokyo skyscraper and kidnaps the U.S. President fairly early on in the comic, Millar himself has a tendency to make grandiose plans that don't quite pan out,...

Tony Scott is a ridiculously busy man. He's just about to bring out Unstoppable starring his best bud Denzel Washington and he's also got Emma's War, Potsdamer Platz starring Mickey Rourke, a modern-day remake of The Warriors, Hell's Angels and The Associate, amongst others, up his sleeve. And now just to ensure that he has absolutely no free time whatsoever, he's come on board to direct the big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar's new comic series, Nemesis.
Deadline confirms that Fox has picked up the comic rights and Scott Free (the Scott brothers production company) will produce the tale, which plays on the idea of what would happen if Bruce Wayne had become the Joker instead of Batman.
"What if this genius billionaire was just this total shit, and the only thing that stood between him and a city was the cops?" said Millar about the project last year. "It's Batman versus Commissioner Gordon,...

There's so many comic book titles out there you can swim in a sea of them. Of course most people associate comics with the two monster publishers DC and Marvel. I've succumbed to their illustrations and story lines most of the time, except for a month ago. Gradually I was getting a bit bored of the X-Men comic story arc Second Coming and was craving for a property outside of the realm of the gigantic companies. I slipped my way over to the remaining sections and came across Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's "Nemesis". Yes, I realize it's still part of the monster companies, but you forget that when the comic's away from the Marvel aisle. If you haven't read it yet (there's only two issues out right now) you seriously should do so. "Nemesis" focuses on a villain who goes on the hunt after Chief Inspector Blake Morrow. It's...

Here's a loud-looking film that's been pretty damn quiet up until now. Unstoppable, the latest collaboration between filmmaker Tony Scott (Emma's War, The Taking Of Pelham 123) and Denzel Washington (The Book Of Eli, The Taking Of Pelham 123), is opening in just under three months, yet this is the first anything we're seeing of the film? That's usually indicative of a problematic movie. But I like Tony Scott. I like Denzel. I like Chris Pine. I like 'em together! So I will hold out...

Tony Scott has many, many projects on his plate. Almost a year ago we ran down many of them: his Hells Angels picture, Potsdamer Platz, an La-set remake of The Warriors, Emma's War and Unstoppable, for starters. Unstoppable is in post-production now, with a release scheduled for November, so it's time for Scott to sort out his next project. Now it seems that Potsdamer Platz will be that next film. Deadline reports that the director has three actors in line: Javier Bardem, Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke. The latter has been attached for some time; Scott told ComingSoon last summer that he might be in the cast. ("I've got a great cast with Mickey… now all of a sudden the film became bankable because Mickey was always his own man before last year.") Scott was reportedly after Gene Hackman to join the cast, but couldn't land the actor, who now...
