Benedict Fitzgerald, the co-writer of Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, has died. He was 74.
Fitzgerald died Jan. 17 after a long illness at his home in Marsala, Sicily, his cousin Nancy Morgan Ritter told The Hollywood Reporter.
Best known for his work on Gibson’s 2004 Biblical epic, the highest-grossing Christian film, as well as the highest-grossing independent film of all time, Fitzgerald’s other credits include co-writing the screenplay for John Huston’s Wise Blood (1979), the adaptation of Flannery O’Connor’s novel.
Born on March 9, 1949, in New York, Fitzgerald was born into a literary household. His deeply Catholic mother, Sally, was a writer and editor and his father, Robert, was a poet, United States Poet Laureate (1984-1985), critic, and famed translator of classic ancient Greek and Latin texts, who was responsible for perhaps the most well-known translation of Homer’s The Odyssey.

There’s a reason screenwriters Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson made a point of highlighting that quote in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), the classic science fiction comedy adventure that kicked off a most bodacious series of joyous cinematic quests. Like another surprisingly insightful comedy about a different kind of pop culture-fanatic airhead, Being There (1979), the Bill & Ted franchise celebrates the simple wisdom embedded deep within our heroes’ blissful ignorance.
Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), thanks to its absolutely wild metaphysical adventure, incredible creatures (see below), comic ingenuity, heavy stakes, one-of-a-kind adversaries, and killer metal soundtrack, remains the favorite franchise entry of this critic. The saga returned last month, just in time to serve as something of a warm and fuzzy hug for one of the worst years in recent American history, with the reunion movie its stars never expected to materialize,...

We’re just a few days away from the release of Bill & Ted Face the Music, and I thought this made for the perfect occasion to look back on where it all started over 30 years ago, and celebrate the historical figures and those responsible for bringing them to life on the silver screen for Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. For as charming and endearing both Bill S. Preston, Esquire (Alex Winter) and Ted “Theodore” Logan were (and still are), the other time travelers in the original film added so much personality and delivered such memorable performances that I thought it was only right to take a moment to shine the spotlight on all of them.
Party on, Dudes!

If you’ve spent time on social media or reading movie-news websites or following the career of Keanu Reeves, then you might be aware that right now, as we speak, there is a third Bill and Ted movie on the way, a movie that brings back Alex Winter and Reeves himself as the air-guitar-shredding, continuously-partying, time-traveling, death-cheating, history-weaving titular legends of the late 80s and early 90s, Bill S. Preston Esquire and Ted Theodore Logan… Wild Stallions. Yup, Bill and Ted are coming back, and there are a lot of us fans who are excited about what that means. It could be an absolute blast.

"Gentlemen - I'm here to help with your history report." Studiocanal UK has released an official trailer for the brand new 4K restoration of the 80s comedy time travel classic Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Yes, we're getting a sequel this year finally - Bill & Ted Face the Music - but while we wait for them to figure when this will open, we can revisit the original movie in the best quality yet. Starring Keanu Reeves as Ted Theodore Logan, and Alex Winter as Bill S. Preston Esquire, two high schoolers from San Dimas who end up traveling through time in a phone both. Featuring George Carlin, Terry Camilleri, Dan Shor, Tony Steedman, Rod Loomis, Al Leong, Jane Wiedlin, Robert V. Barron, Clifford David, plus Hal Landon Jr. I love this movie so much! I watched it so many times as a kid. And it's still just as entertaining and...

Let’s get it out of the way: 1982’s Tron is a perfect example of a film wherein style completely trumped substance to its lasting detriment. That’s not to take away from its importance as a groundbreaking piece of work, one undeniably laced with rich iconography, but instead to point out that on a narrative level, Tron left a lot to be desired, too caught up – and understandably so – in exploring its own world to focus on giving us a solid story with which to truly support itself. As a result, with several decades now under its belt and its once incredible effects and animation now painfully dated, it’s even easier to see that there’s no real meat on the film’s bones that has allowed it to truly stand the test of time for most people outside of its own loyal fanbase.

Strange Behavior. What an apt title for this film. Released in 1981, Aka Dead Kids, Strange Behavior is a unique mash up of a popular (at the time) sub-genre and one long forgotten – the Slasher and The Mad Scientist. For fans of either, it provides a weird, loving tribute to the latter while quietly etching a place for itself in the former. A lot of horror lovers missed the boat on this one at the time of its release, which is strange behavior, indeed.
Given a limited release in October by World Northal stateside, Strange Behavior impressed many critics at the time with its ethereal quality and 50’s throwback feel, but audiences really never got a chance to see it until released on video the following year. And even then, it never picked up steam with the horror crowd. Which is quite sad, as the film still plays as a creepy,...

If you’ve seen the fabulously entertaining Ozploitation documentary Not Quite Hollywood — which tracks the rise of Down Under genre films in the ’70s and ’80s — then you will be familiar with producer and Quentin Tarantino favorite Antony I. Ginnane, the so-called “Roger Corman of Australia” whose output includes the horror movies Patrick, Dead Kids, and Thirst. “But how can I learn more about these films?” I pretend to hear you cry. Well, good news! This month, Severin Films is releasing all three terror flicks in Blu-ray/DVD combo packs (as well as the self-explanatory DVD, Ozploitation Trailer Explosion) which...

I'm not sure what it is about Aussie horror, but I love almost all of it. And I certainly love the three movies that Severin Films has announced to Blu-ray later this year. Those looking to junk their DVD editions of Patrick, Thirst, and Dead Kids (aka Strange Behavior) can rejoice!
From the Press Release:
The original killer in a coma classic Patrick hits Blu-ray from Severin Films on 3/11/14
Aussie horror favorites Thirst & Dead Kids will also be issued in Blu/DVD Combos
In the late ‘70s and early ‘80s while films like My Brilliant Career and Breaker Morant were putting Australia’s ‘New Wave’ on the map, a depraved generation of young Aussie filmmakers was putting a very different kind of movie on screens. Three ‘Ozploitation’ horrors, Patrick, Dead Kids & Thirst, will have their Blu-ray debut from Severin Films, while their sub-label Intervision will issue the definitive compilation Ozploitation Trailer Explosion.

Upon second viewing of Tron Legacy, Disney's follow-up to the first CG film made 27 years ago, I find myself forgiving some of the movie's flaws in favor of what it provides upon casual viewing: nice eye candy.
My problems with Legacy remain pretty much the same as when I reviewed the movie last December. Much of the film lacks the ability to make the viewer care much for the estrangled father-son relationship between Jeff Bridges' Kevin Flynn and Garret Hedlund's Sam Flynn, and I suspect that may be due to director Joseph Kosinski's shortcomings. He was wrestling with a technologically complex and expensive movie as his first studio film, and I suspect that he focused on getting an adequate performance out of his two leads but would up concentrating on making sure that all the processing power and rendering time was getting put to good use. Again, I...

Last fall’s “Tron Legacy” was one of the most anticipated movies of all time. From the teaser film released at Comic-Con International in San Diego years before to the elaborate events staged across the country, “Tron Legacy” was one of the most unique films in recent memory — and that’s before you factor in the special effects. Someone had to go first.
As computers were getting faster and significantly more sophisticated, some producer was going to be the first to have computers handle the special effects in a movie. As it turns out, Walt Disney, which pioneered feature-length animation, took the plunge in 1982 with Tron. The film, starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, and David Warner, was visually stunning in its day as you felt immersed in the emerging video game world. The mediocre story took a backseat to the imaginative light cycle races and glowing disc battles. Audiences were intrigued, just enough to rake in $33 million at the box office for a $17 million production so it almost made money using the math of the time.
Flashfoward 28 years and as computers have taken control over special effects in all media, the time struck many as right to go back and revisit the world of Tron. Disney moved cautiously,...

Rumor has started running wild, suggesting there will be another movie after "Tron Legacy". The speculation of "Tron 3" arises after a more-than-ten-minute epilogue clip for the DVD release of the Garrett Hedlund-starring movie hits the web, and gives a lot of hints of the sequel.
Titled "Tron: The Next Day", the footage opens with a flash back of the "Flynn Lives" movement that took place during the years between the original "Tron" movie and the "Legacy" follow-up. It then previews the situation at Encom corporation after Sam's revolt in the second film.
Roy "Ram" Kleinberg who is played by Dan Shor in the 1982 movie will make a return should the third film be made. It turns out that Ram was the mastermind behind the "Flynn Lives" campaign. He's seen frantically destroying all data and files that prove his involvement before Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) comes to confront him.

Ok, now this is the definition of Epic. Apparently one of the extras that will appear on the Blu-ray and DVD release of Tron: Legacy, this new short film, titled The Next Day, is the first of two TR3N teasers.
It explains the origins of the Flynn Lives campaign (which ran in the lead up to the release of Tron: Legacy) and who was in charge of it; plus it features the epic pairing of Dan Shor as Ram and Bruce Boxleitner as Alan Bradley! Tron: The Next Day also explains what happens after Sam Flynn takes over Encom at the end of the second Tron movie.
The second Tron 3 teaser is reportedly a hidden Easter Egg in the DVD/Blu-Ray and will reportedly feature Olivia Wilde as Quorra and Cillian Murphy as Ed Dillinger Jr., who is being touted as the villain of the forthcoming third movie.

The Tron: The Next Day video from the Tron: Legacy Blu-ray has been released. Bruce Boxleitner, Dan Shor, and Garret Hedlund star in Tron: The Next Day. The video details what happened after Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) disappeared in the 1980s, Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) taking over Encom in his absence, and the beginning of the Flynn Lives movement. We are also shown what happened to Encom and shown the corporate environment after the events in Tron: Legacy. It’s very cool video but I can’t imagine that Walt Disney actually wants this video on the Internet as it serves as an inducement to purchase the film on Blu-ray when it is released. I doubt they know about this yet since its the weekend so I would watch it sooner rather than later before it is taken down. Tron: Legacy is directed by Joseph Kosinski and also stars Jeff Bridges,...

We've been hearing that the upcoming "Tron Legacy" Blu-ray will include a teaser trailer for "Tron 3." It turns out that the teaser is actually a 10-minute "epilogue," entitled "Tron: The Next Day." Even though "Tron Legacy" won't appear in stores until April 5th, the video has already made its way online. It explains the origins of the Flynn Lives organization and what happens with Sam at the end of "Legacy." And it even includes a scene with Ram (Dan Shor) and Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner). Check everything out below. Unless something changed, there should be two other videos on the "Tron Legacy" Blu-ray. The first features Quorra (Olivia Wilde) arriving at the Encom building on Sam's Ducati, telling the press that she has spoken to Kevin Flynn yesterday. The third is an interaction between Edward Dillinger (played by David Warner in original "Tron") and his son (played by Cillian Murphy...

Anyone who saw Tron: Legacy and didn’t succumb to the hype and took the film for what it was (a solid re-imagining of an old property) knows that Disney is all about making a franchise wherever they can. In the film (spoiler alert) there is a lot left open on where the next film could go. Many fans believe the villain is already set-up in the cameo of Cillian Murphy as the son of Ed Dillinger (the main villain of the original Tron). Murphy has an uncredited cameo as an employee at Encom who designed Encom Os 12, formerly known as Flynn Os.
Now there is some belief the Tron: Legacy Blu-ray/DVD will have some scenes that may link to the next Tron film, Tron 3, which hasn’t been officially announced by the studio. Someone that worked on the shoot for DVD/Blu-ray extras for Tron: Legacy has contacted...

What’s happened to the old rule, you release one film, then you begin shooting it’s sequel? It’s seems like the rules may well have gone out the window for the follow up to last year’s Tron: Legacy if the rumours are to be believed, as we can expect to see a teaser from Tron 3 making an appearance on the grid earlier than expected.
The news comes courtesy of Ain’t It Cool News, who have gotten word that we will be seeing a Tron 3 teaser as a DVD extra for Tron: Legacy. According to the site, the footage was shot before Thanksgiving and, not stopping there, we’ve got a few details about what you can expect to see from it:

Did you feel that it would take nearly forever for us to get some new footage from another "Tron" sequel? Nope, that definitely isn't happening. Some news popped up that some of the extra scenes they shot before Thanksgiving were actually bits and pieces of a teaser that we'll be soaking up when the "Tron Legacy" DVD and Blu-ray is released in retail stores. Awesome no? Well then, read up a bit more on what the little clips are going to be about below. "One included Bruce Boxleitner (as Alan) and Dan Shor (as Ram). Turns out that 'Ram' was apparently running the Flynn Lives campaign and he's frantically destroying all of that data and files, as Alan confronts him. Dan apparently utters the line, 'Why did Kevin give you the cool name' - which means to my way of thinking that after Flynn came out of the Grid, he...

Thanks to the ideas and direction of Joe Kosinski Legacy wasn’t just a sequel to the 1982 Jeff Bridges cult classic, but a relaunch of Tron as a key Disney franchise.
If you recall, Tron: Legacy got its start as an early concept video which lucky fans were first viewers at San Diego Comic-Con three years ago. It was a boost for events that brought us where we are today. While this teaser footage goes to show some cool and exciting ideas for how to continue the franchise and link it together with the original movie, it’s not officially announced that third installment will start shooting.
The first scene presents Alan Bradley/Tron (Bruce Boxleitner) and Ram (played by Dan Shor in original “Tron”). Ram has been running the Flynn Lives campaign and is destroying all files associated with it when Alan tackled him. Ram asks Alan: “Why did...

Last week, a Tron fan site claimed that there was going to be a teaser trailer for Tron 3 (or Tr3n if you’re nasty) on the Blu-ray of Tron Legacy when it comes out later this year. That seemed surprising (and a little bit like fanboy wishful thinking), but now an even bigger Tron fan site (Aint It Cool News) has released details about the teaser. According to them, the Tron 3 teaser trailer includes a scene with Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) and Ram (a briefly seen real world counterpart to the program inside The Grid from the original movie, played by Dan Shor). It also includes a scene with Quorra (Olivia Wilde) being mobbed by press outside of Encom for 1) being attractive 2) theoretically dating Sam Flynn and 3) claiming she just spoke with Kevin Flynn (maybe even the human version) the day before. The third segment is the villainous fruition of a single-line cameo from Cillian Murphy in...

Talk of a second sequel to Tron has been making the rounds on the internet since February 2010, ten months before Tron: Legacy opened in theaters, and Disney has had Tron: Legacy writers Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz working on the script for Tron 3 (working title) since at least April 2010. Recently, it was rumored that a Tron 3 teaser might be appearing on the DVD and Blu-ray release of Tron: Legacy. Now, confirmation of this fact comes from Harry Knowles at AICN, who was reportedly given several details about the November shoot for the teaser, including a breakdown of the scenes that were shot, a call sheet, a location map and two photos from the set.

A few days ago, we reported on a rumor that Disney will release a teaser trailer for "Tron 3" on the upcoming Blu-ray release of "Tron Legacy." AICN has now confirmed the news, revealing details about the teaser's three scenes and photos from the shoot. Ram has been running the "Flynn Lives" campaign and is destroying all files associated with it when he is confronted by Alan. Ram asks Alan: "Why did Kevin give you the cool name?" * The second scene features Quorra (Olivia Wilde) arriving at the Encom building on Sam's Ducati. At this point, Tron: Legacy has been out in theaters for over a month and I still have not seen it. The combination of my dislike of the original, disinterest in the sequel and the mostly negative response it’s gotten has filled me with almost no desire to pay money for it. Some others must have felt this way, because its box office was seen as underwhelming by a decent amount of people, and yet, Disney apparently has a sequel in mind. One rumor that kept getting circulated over the past 48 hours or so was that there would even be teasers for Tron 3 on the Blu-ray release of Legacy (not that hard to believe, since the new movie’s first teaser showed up at Comic-Con in summer 2008). It’s looking like that rumor was true, because AICN not only received descriptions of the footage that is said to have been shot before Thanksgiving,...

Earlier this month we gave you some details about a possible Tron 3 teaser being apart of the extra’s on the Tron: Legacy Blu-ray/DVD release (here). Some more details have emerged about the teaser thanks to Harry Knowles and a source that he has who apparently worked on this extra.
**Spoilers ahead** The teaser will apparently contain three scenes, one of Quorra (Olivia Wilde) arriving at Encom on Sam’s bike and having news about Kevin Flynn which results in the press going crazy. Another scene of Alan (Bruce Boxleitner) and Ram (Dan Shor), where Ram is destroying files when Alan confronts him. And finally which certainly has me excited is a scene with Ed Dillinger (David Warner) and son (Cillian Murphy) saying that “that everything is going as planned”.
I can’t wait! And to help set the mood, Harry also got sent a couple of set photos...

Yep, you read that right. For the last few weeks there has been a persistent rumor going around that the Tron Legacy DVD and Blu-ray release would feature a teaser for Tron 3. We haven't run much because we couldn't confirm it 100%, but someone else got some pretty detailed information that suggests the rumor was true. The info, which is obviously spoilerish if you don't want to know anything at all, is after the break. AICN [1] got the scoop from someone reportedly on set for the shoot. He says there will be at least three scenes. One has Bruce Boxleitner playing Alan and Dan Shor playing Ram. Another scene shows Olivia Wilde as Quorra arriving at the Encom building, where she is mobbed by press as she claims to have just spoken to Kevin Flynn. This is the can.t-miss event of the season with such star as Dan Shor as Ram, Bob Neil as Guard Number 2, and more! So this is hilarious, but if nothing else is a pointed look at how far technology has come since 1982. A few dudes with a green screen and After Effects took a few days and slapped together this "discovered" holiday special, which at least holds up next to the original 1982 Tron. Funny or Die has nailed it again and the star on the tree is the appearance of legendary Rip Taylor, who does a great job throwing digital confetti on everyone..
