Emmy spotlight: Director Jack Bender brought season 2 of ‘Mr. Mercedes’ to a gripping conclusion

Emmy spotlight: Director Jack Bender brought season 2 of ‘Mr. Mercedes’ to a gripping conclusion
TV director Jack Bender last competed at the Emmys in 2016 for the heartbreaking episode of “Game of Thrones” titled “The Door” that ended in the heroic death of Hodor (Kristian Nairn). Bender didn’t contribute to the final season of that epic series, but he deserves to be a contender for Best Drama Directing this year for bringing the wild second season of “Mr. Mercedes” to its shocking conclusion.

The first season of Audience Network’s crime drama was a gritty game of cat and mouse between retired detective Bill Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) and serial killer Brady Hartsfield (Harry Treadaway). Then season two took a turn for the weird and cerebral. Based on the third novel in Stephen King’s Bill Hodges trilogy, “End of Watch,” this latest collection of episodes charted Brady’s rapid recovery from a coma and his subsequent development of psychic powers as the result of

Stephen King Shares His Excitement and Optimism Over the New Adaptation of The Stand

Here we are folks, in the prime Stephen King remake time. It seems like everything of his is getting a remake or even a first edition adaptation. In the past few years we’ve had The Dark Tower, Carrie, Pet Sematary, It, as well as the series Mr. Mercedes and Castle Rock to name a few.

Looking at King’s IMDb page is staggering. He has 64 titles that he is somehow involved in that are in development or production. It’s pretty crazy! But it’s also pretty cool because so many of the old film adaptations of King’s movies were made for TV and were hindered by low budgets and by censorship. So it’s nice for fans and King himself to see this series and movies get proper adaptations.

In a recent interview on the podcast Post Mortem, King talked a bit about his feelings on his upcoming project,

Hanelle Culpepper is directing the first two episodes, with Stewart’s Tng co-star and Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes getting behind the camera for episodes three and four of an expected ten.

Although specific plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is set around two decades after the end of The Next Generation and will reportedly deal with the aftermath of the destruction of Romulus as seen in 2009’s Star Trek movie.

Exclusive: Following the SXSW World Premiere of Mother’s Little Helpers, writer/director/star Kestrin Pantera has inked with ICM Partners.

5 Best New Amazon Shows to Binge in March, and the Best Reasons to Watch

5 Best New Amazon Shows to Binge in March, and the Best Reasons to Watch
1. “Catastrophe” Season 4 (available March 15)

Why Should I Watch? Like many half-hour “comedies” these days, “Catastrophe” will often go dark: Alcoholism and depression are treated with the same unflinching honesty as parenthood. But unlike those other quote-unquote comedies, Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s Channel 4 original — about a one-night-stand that results in a baby, marriage, and moving abroad — doesn’t skimp on the laughs. The humor is fast and ferocious, and you’ll be howling with laughter way more often than you’re moaning in misery — often simultaneously.

Bonus Reason: The third season was the fourth best reviewed series of 2017, which not only puts “Catastrophe” in elite company, but indicates it’s only getting better as it goes. Season 4 is the last season, sadly, but all signs point to going out on top.

2. “Hanna” Season 1 (available March 29)

Why Should I Watch? Whether you like Joe Wright and Saoirse Ronan’s
