“I don’t know people who are just the right balance of quirky, I only know people who are too much,” John Early tells Et.
It’s easily a sentiment that applies to the indelible characters Early has already created in his relatively short yet rising career -- most notably the shameless narcissist-turned-murder accomplice Elliott Goss on the TBS black comedy Search Party. The series, which returned for an even darker and more hilarious second season in November, sees Elliott unraveling in spectacular fashion -- making 2017 another standout year for the actor.
“I was really touched when I read all the scripts for this season,” Early tells Et of returning to Search Party, which also stars Alia Shawkat, Meredith Hagner, John Reynolds and Brandon Micheal Hall. “I just felt like [co-creators Charles Rogers and Sarah-Violet Bliss] knew that I would have so much fun sh*tting in my pants, having a rash and watching my hair fall out.”

To the naked eye, it looks as though Aubrey Plaza is reinventing herself. The 33-year-old actress, famous for her portrayal of the lovably sardonic April Ludgate on NBC’s Parks and Recreation, has spent the last year portraying characters far different than her familiar depictions of eye-rolling best friends in wacky comedies.
But to Plaza, it’s just a matter of scheduling. “Being on a television show for seven years, it's hard to break out of that box,” she says, speaking by phone with Et. “I guess to everyone else it's a reinvention, but for me, it's something that I've always been.”
With three projects in 2017 -- FX’s Legion, Ingrid Goes West and The Little Hours -- that showcased some of her best acting to date, Plaza has proved once and for all that she is a formidable talent, not just a sitcom trope.
Her year started off strong with a complex role on the first season...

Young filmmakers revealed the biggest barriers they face in the industry.
Execs from the BBC, Channel 4, Vice, Pulse Films and The Guardian have met with 20 young filmmakers as part of a Sheffield Doc/Fest initiative that served as a “wake-up call” around the challenges of breaking into the industry (writes Broadcast).
Conceived by presenter and film-maker Reggie Yates, the inaugural Doc/Dinner was held on Monday (12 June) and offered guidance to attendees about getting their work made and seen.
Yates struck upon of the idea after attending the festival for the first time in 2016, and noticing the lack of opportunities for young talent to receive mentoring in informal settings.
When festival director Liz McIntyre asked Yates what he might do differently, he suggested a casual networking dinner.

Memorable moments - it seemed to be what Cameron Crowe had a knack for creating. Lloyd Dobler stood with a ghetto blaster held aloft in Say Anything, the 'Show me the money' or 'You had me at hello' scenes from Jerry Maguire, the singalong of Tiny Dancer or the imminent plane crash in Almost Famous. It also seemed Cameron Crowe could do no wrong on the wave of the success of those films, but then there came a film which, instead of creating memorable moments, everybody seemed to want to forget all about.

The claws are coming out on Bachelor in Paradise - and we don't just mean the crabs. In a sneak peek at Tuesday's episode, we get to experience the return of Ashley Iaconetti in full force ... and yes, there's lots of crying involved. In case you didn't watch last season, Iaconetti spent much of it pining over Jared Haibon, who, for the most part, didn't quite return the feelings. This time? Not much has changed - except for the introduction of Caila Quinn in Paradise, who happened to form an instant connection with Haibon. "It can't get much worse unless somebody dies,...

Despite being perhaps the best element of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s safe to say Ben Affleck can’t be pleased with how the superhero showdown turned out. He’ll have a bigger role on the Justice League follow-up, serving as executive producer, and in the meantime, he’s sticking with Warner Bros. for all of his currently scheduled upcoming projects. Aside from his next directorial effort Live By Night, due in 2017, this fall he’s leading The Accountant, and the first trailer has arrived.
Coming from Warrior director Gavin O’Connor, the film follows Affleck’s character as an accountant by day and an assassin by night. The first trailer, backed by Radiohead‘s “Everything in its Right Place,” has quite an effective build-up while still keeping a fair amount of mystery. Check out the trailer below for the film also starring Anna Kendrick, J. K.

With his role as Batman in the Dceu taking up most of the Ben Affleck-related headlines lately, you’d be forgiven for forgetting about some of the actor’s other projects. Aside from Live by the Night, Big Ben also has a film called The Accountant coming out, and today Warner Bros. has premiered the first trailer for it.
The action thriller, directed by Warrior‘s Gavin O’Connor, sees Affleck as a, you guessed it, mild-mannered accountant. However, he’s not just any accountant – he moonlights as an assassin once the sun goes down. And from the looks of the trailer, quite a deadly one at that.
Set to Radiohead’s haunting “Everything In Its Right Place,” the footage here mostly focuses on the character’s unconventional origin story, but we do get some brief glimpses of Affleck fighting his way through opponents and bringing out his darker side.

There is a moment, varying from person to person, in M. Night Shyamalan's filmography which marks when his earliest followers wound up losing their faith in the director. For me it was "The Village," for some it was "Signs," but almost everyone can agree that "The Happening" was a total trainwreck. With the filmmaker back this week with his found footage "The Visit," Screen Junkies decided to re-visit one of more egregious entries in Shyamalan's catalog. Read More: M. Night Shyamalan Says 10-Year-Olds Love 'The Last Airbender,' TV Could Be Right Place For 'Unbreakable' Sequel The environmental message movie stars Mark Wahlberg as a teacher who begins to notice that weird things are "happening," such as mass swaths of the population starting to kill themselves. The culprit? Mother nature, who is releasing toxins against humans, because we're a threat. If only we had recycled more.

Host Chris Harrison warns us before every episode that this one will be the most dramatic one of all time – but this time, it actually might deserve that title.
A lot happened in the two-hour part 1 season finale of Bachelor in Paradise, including the fact that basically half the cast left the show, but it's safe to say the most insane part that still has us reeling was that Kirk broke up with Carly. We'll get to that ... but first, a quick rundown of all the other relationships that crashed and burned (and the few that blossomed) on Sunday night's episode.

M. Night Shyamalan is coming back to cinemas next month, but in a bit of a different form than we're used to from the filmmaker. There's no big budgets, or starry cast, or a big juicy hook—at least one that has been revealed just yet—to snare viewers. It's modestly priced little found footage horror flick "The Visit," and maybe it's just the right size project to put the director back into top form. Read More: M. In October on FX, Kirsten Dunst, Ted Danson, Jesse Plemons, Patrick Wilson, Jean Smart, Bokeem Woodbine, Nick Offerman, Cristin Milioti, Brad Garrett, Kieran Culkin, and Bruce Campbell will star in a new season of Fargo, wearing warm clothing and accents. It was no big surprise that "Insidious Chapter 2" won the weekend at the box office, since it's only competition was "The Family," a Robert De Niro mob action-comedy that played to older audiences. But no one expected it to open above $40 million and set a September record.
Given that the new "Insidious" was the follow-up to a low-budget horror film that opened with $13 million, with a relatively obscure cast and director, predictions for the sequel's debut were in the high 20s and low 30s. Instead, the film earned an estimated $41.1 million, making it the largest September opening ever for a live-action movie or a horror movie.
How did "Insidious Chapter 2" manage to outperform expectations by such a huge margin? Here's what it had going for it that pundits may have overlooked.

Olly Murs grew up dreaming of soccer stardom, but after an injury left him unable to play, he found a new passion in singing. After a less-than-serious start belting out karaoke in local pubs, he made it to the final two on UK's The X Factor in 2010. Olly's first two CDs have already been a success in the UK, and his latest album, Right Place, Right Time is now available in the Us. We caught up with Olly in La during his recent tour with One Direction. He chatted with us about the "cheeky" tone of his new CD, his role as de facto big brother to the One Direction boys, and why he's still on the search for the right girl. He also performed an exclusive, stripped-down version of his single, "Heart Skips a Beat."...

Now that Fringe has finally left the building, Juliette salutes its ten best episodes. See if your favourite made the cut...
For five years, Fringe kept us glued to our screens with alternate universes, alternate timelines, alternate futures and a weekly dose of stories it would be unwise to watch while eating a meal. Ultimately a show about family and the things we do, right or wrong, for the people we love, whether it was doing The X-Files with extra red vines, Sliders with more people getting chopped in half or Dark City with more countryside. These are ten of its finest hours.
10. An Origin Story (Season Five)
Season five tells one continuous story across its thirteen episodes, which means that, like other shorter and heavy serialised shows (Game of Thrones, True Blood, Spartacus) it’s harder to identify individual episodes that really stand out,...

Top 10 lists are tricky things. It can be absurdly hard to narrow down anything to a select group of ten. It’s like being asked to choose your favorite child and you just want to wail, “But I love all of them!” This is particularly true in television. Each year I commit to nearly 100 television shows that air throughout the twelve-month period. Thus, to pare down to the few that were truly outstanding, it can be exceptionally difficult. But there are always a deserving few who manage to do the impossible: sustaining a high caliber of performance and be equally captivating entertainment. As a caveat, there will always be better shows, but sometimes those shows just didn’t manage to be as consistently entertaining. Addictiveness plays a large part of what makes television shows successful. It is a quality that is rare and elusive and can be dependent upon the personal tastes of the viewer.
