Ryan Gosling takes a lot into consideration before choosing his next movie role.
The Oscar-nominated actor recently opened up to The Wall Street Journal about his decision to avoid taking on darker projects so that he can be present with his family.
“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” he said. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. The decisions I make, I make them with [wife] Eva [Mendes], and we make them with our family in mind first.”
Gosling and Mendes, who met prior to starring together in 2012’s The Place Beyond the Pines, share two daughters, Esmeralda Amada and Amada Lee.

T.S. Eliot, box office pundit: The wasteland of April was the cruelest month for theaters. To say May will be an improvement damns with faint praise; April was less than $440 million, down 52 percent from 2023. What May really needs is a performance not unlike the one we saw a year ago, when “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” lead the month to just under $800 million total.
To achieve that in 2024, there are five films that must reach their potential. All are positioned to reach $100 million in U.S./Canada, although not necessarily by the end of May.
Perhaps the trickiest one to guess is the “The Fall Guy” (Universal). It has the best start-of-summer date, stars the red-hot Ryan Gosling, and received good reviews, yet the consensus among a range of insiders is it may be only the fourth biggest among May releases.

Ryan Gosling said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal Magazine that he is no longer picking roles that are too psychologically twisted in order to maintain his mental health for the sake of his family. The Oscar nominee has two children with partner and fellow actor Eva Mendes. Gosling’s recent movies, the comedy “Barbie” and the action romance “The Fall Guy,” certainly reflect this career choice.
“I don’t really take roles that are going to put me in some kind of dark place,” Gosling told the publication. “This moment is what I feel like trying to read the room at home and feel like what is going to be best for all of us. “I think ‘La La Land’ was the first,” Gosling added about when he started to shift his career.

Move over, Pete Davidson. “Beavis and Butt-Head” is officially the most popular YouTube clip of SNL’s current season.
The sketch, which features Mikey Day and host Ryan Gosling as two men who looked strikingly like Beavis and Butt-Head, went viral for causing most of its cast break into laughter. Within a few days of its initial airing, it was already the most popular live sketch of SNL’s 49th season. But Davidson’s “I’m Just Pete,” a pre-taped parody of the Barbie movie’s “I’m Just Ken” had held on as top-performing moment of the year.
But as of this writing, “Beavis and Butt-Head” is now the most-viewed YouTube clip of SNL’s 49th season, with 13,541,000 views.
While that’s an impressive number of views, especially for a sketch that’s only three weeks old, ‘Beavis’ has a ways to go before it nears SNL’s most-viewed...

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament is back. While studios during Covid wildly embraced the theatrical day-and-date model when cinemas were closed, they soon realized there’s nothing more profitable than a theatrical release and the downstreams that come with it. If anything, theatrical is the advertisement for a movie’s longevity in subsequent home entertainment windows. Entering the conversation in 2023 were the streamers, such as Apple, who have also realized the necessity of theatrical to eventize their movies. The financial data pulled together here for Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster Tournament is culled by seasoned and trusted sources.

As we’ve come to learn over the last few months, Ryan Gosling is nothing if not game. He demonstrated that yet again Wednesday night, when the three-time Oscar nominee paid a visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live!
After Kimmel introduced Gosling as “a man from Canada who played Ken and got nominated for an Oscar for it” and the star of “the new rom-action comedy The Fall Guy,” the camera cut to Gosling emerging from his dressing room. As the actor made his way to the stage, he came under attack by a seemingly endless line of baddies who tried to take him out with everything from a baseball bat to their bare hands.
For his part, Gosling didn’t miss a beat. After taking out one attacker with his coffee cup and smashing another against a wall, the Barbie star even made some time to stop by fellow guest...

Ryan Gosling’s teenage actor hopes for a friendship with late screen legend Burt Reynolds were dashed when he learned that the 1970s movie icon was more interested in his mother.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, the 43-year-old Barbie Oscar nominee and star of the new movie The Fall Guy recalled his time spent with the late star of Smokey and the Bandit, Deliverance and many more 1970s classics; the two were working together on the 1996 family comedy, Frankenstein and Me.
Reynolds had something of a reputation for being surly and unfriendly in his heyday, so while discussing the shoot, Kimmel wanted to know if the child actor and veteran star struck up any sort of friendship or rapport. Gosling told him that Reynolds was perfectly nice to him on set, but revealed that this was potentially a plan to win the favor of his mother, Donna Gosling.

Pamela Anderson is proving her staying power in her return to cinemas with indie film “The Last Showgirl.”
The iconic “Barb Wire” and “Baywatch” star plays the title character of Gia Coppola’s feature that centers on a Las Vegas performer (Anderson) who finds herself at a career crossroads after her show abruptly closes after a 30-year run. Per the official synopsis, as a dancer in her fifties, she struggles with what to do next and tries to repair a strained relationship with her daughter.
In addition to Anderson, Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis, Dave Bautista, Brenda Song, Kiernan Shipka, and Billie Lourd also star.
Kate Gersten wrote the screenplay. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw serves as the director of photography. The feature includes original music from Andrew Wyatt (“Barbie”). Natalie Farrey and Robert Schwartzman are producing.
Goodfellas and Utopia are launching sales at Cannes. The feature is currently in post-production.

Picture your Saturday night: popcorn is popped, drink is poured, blanket is warm, and you’re just about to put on a movie you’ve been wanting to see for months…and it’s two and a half hours long. Is the night ruined? For some of us, that length – despite a secured growth over the years – is just too long. So, what is the ideal runtime for a movie? According to one study, it’s a brisk 92 minutes.
In a survey of 2,000 Americans conducted by Talker Research, 92 minutes was deemed the ideal length for a movie’s runtime. Now, think about it: when is the last time you saw a movie that hit that mark? They’re there, of course, but they are increasingly rare. If we look at the top five higest-grossing movies of last year, The Super Mario Bros. Movie actually hits the mark precisely, while only Barbie was under two hours.

“The Fall Guy” (Universal) opens in the U.S./Canada Friday — one of the most prestigious spots on the movie release calendar. Since “Iron Man” in 2008, and since Disney initiated the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2012, the first weekend in May has marked the start of the summer movie season.
When MCU “Deadpool & Wolverine” left this date in favor of July 26, Universal grabbed it — and the expectations that come with it. As a result, there’s an unusually wide range of estimates for the domestic opening weekend: We hear everything from the high 20s to over $50 million, with consensus closer to $35 million or a bit more.
An opening weekend of $35 million-$40 million would be a big improvement over a disastrous April (where “Civil War” was the sole film to debut over $25 million), but that would be only the fifth-best opening of 2024. Historically, this date tops any opening gross and usually...

Meryl Streep is set to receive the highest honor at the Cannes 2024 ceremony.
The Oscar winner has been announced to be feted with the honorary Palme d’Or on the opening night of the 77th annual festival; Variety first reported the news. Streep has not been to Cannes in exactly 35 years, since winning best actress for 1989’s “Evil Angels a Cry in the Dark” directed by Fred Schepisi.
Michael Douglas received the opening ceremony honorary Palme d’Or award in 2023.
Streep’s career has ranged from Academy Award-nominated turns in dramas such as “Sophie’s Choice” to musicals like “Into the Woods.” Streep’s rom-com efforts have marked collaborations with Nancy Meyers and other iconic filmmakers. She most recently starred in Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building,” following her former “Big Little Lies” TV role. Meryl Streep will receive the honorary Palme d’Or on the opening night of the 77th edition of Cannes Film Festival, Variety has learned.
Luring the Oscar winner is yet another feat for this Cannes edition, which will bring together a flurry Hollywood legends. Notably, George Lucas will receive the honorary Palme d’Or during the closing ceremony; Francis Ford Coppola’s “Megalopolis” and Paul Schrader’s “Oh, Canada” are playing in competition; and George Miller‘s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” and Kevin Costner’s Western epic “Horizon, an American Saga” are playing out of competition. This weekend marks the official start of the summer movie season. Yeah, I know – it’s still springtime, but if you follow blockbuster movie release dates, you’ll know that May’s always been prime real estate, with many of the biggest money earners of all time coming out in that month. Last year, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 kicked off the season with a muscular $118 million opening. Sadly, this year’s first big would-be blockbuster, The Fall Guy, looks like it will only open with about a fraction of that take, with the industry predicting a $35-40 million opening.
That opening would put it right in line with director David Leitch’s last big action flick, Bullet Train, which opened with $30 million on its way to a $103 million North American cume and a $239 million worldwide total. That was considered a more-than-ok number, considering the film only had a budget in the $90 million range.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is undoubtedly one of 2023’s biggest hits, being his highest-grossing film outside of his Batman films. In classic Nolan fashion, the film boasted an impressive ensemble led by Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon. In addition to being a big box office hit, Murphy and Downey Jr. won Oscars for their roles in the film.

The film’s success further catapulted Nolan’s position in the industry, arguably making him the best modern director of our time. It was recently reported that Nolan earned a whopping $100 million for the film. However, a new in-depth report of the film’s performance and profits has refuted that claim.

As a film star, Ryan Gosling is the recipient of multiple titles, such as Gangster Squad and Drive. Even so, the actor, 43, has not yet made an appearance in the superhero genre, despite having received a few role offers from Marvel and DC Studios.

Ryan Gosling is one of the most sought-after actors working in Hollywood right now. The actor possesses the prowess of appearing in cinematic projects across genres. However, it was not always the case, Gosling had his fair share of struggles in the early days, even having a disastrous audition in his career.

Like many actors, Gosling hit and missed several roles. Of course, the actor has proved his capability with many remarkable roles, including The Notebook and his Oscar-nominated performances in La La Land and Barbie. But the actor also lost several roles in films like Fifty Shades Of Grey, but his audition for Gilmore Girls was reportedly terrible at best.

Challengers and The Fall Guy prove that the movie star is still alive – and can make a huge difference to a film’s success. A few thoughts…
The movie star is dead. Or at least our idea of stardom may have drastically changed. After streaming has become a credible rival to cinemas, it’s not so much star power that necessarily gets people to spend their hard-earned money on a movie ticket. Sure, the Swifties ran to the cinemas to watch The Eras Tour, but Taylor Swift is hardly a movie star, despite her turn in Cats.
Ana De Armas blames social media for the lack of movie stars. “I feel like the new generations don’t have that concept, because of social media,” de Armas told Vanity Fair in 2023. “There is so much information out there and oversharing. The concept of a movie star is someone untouchable you only see onscreen.

There are movies that make you want one thing more than anything else: for whatever's happening on the screen to end as quickly as possible.
Reddit users selected popular movies that made them want just that.
1. Saltburn, 2023
In 2020, Emerald Fennell made her debut with the tragicomedy Promising Young Woman. The movie won her an Academy Award for Original Screenplay and gave endless opportunities to create her next project – Saltburn, a rip-off of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
The structure of the movie begins to fall apart in the middle as Oliver "skillfully" (actually clumsily) begins to work his way to the top. Many viewers positioned the movie as one of the most scandalous of the year – Saltburn undoubtedly shocks with some scenes (we feel sorry for every cemetery worker who's seen it), but seasoned viewers were tired of its extreme predictability.

John Cena is one of the most respected and adored figures in Hollywood. He has made a name for himself through various pursuits, being successful as both an actor and a wrestler. He has become iconic in many ways and entered the fabric of popular culture. His acting roles have gained him a completely different type of audience, playing the role of The Peacemaker in the DC Universe, acting in Barbie, being a part of Argylle, and even adorning the skin of Dominic Toretto in the Fast and Furious series.

Chloe Fineman’s Dua Lipa impression probably isn’t quite ready for prime time yet, or even late night at this point. But she still has a few days to get there.
In this week’s Saturday Night Live promo, SNL‘s Fineman greets host and musical guest Lipa with a workshop version of her latest impression. “That’s hilarious,” Lipa says after Fineman’s mangled “Levitating” performance. “Who was it?”
Lipa’s May 4 appearance will mark her third time as the show’s musical guest, but a first time hosting. She made her acting debut in Barbie last year, and contributed the song “Dance the Night” to the soundtrack.
SNL airs Saturday at 11:30pm Et/8:30pm Pt on NBC and streams live on Peacock.

Eva Mendes is happy she had kids in her 40s, three years after she met her now-husband Ryan Gosling.
In a conversation with People, the actress recounted the public reaction to her being pregnant at 40 and how she couldn’t have imagined being a mother at any other point in her life.
“When I was 40, it was a big deal for people when I was pregnant, and it wasn’t for me,” Mendes said. “And then I was 42 and I was pregnant with my second one and people were like, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s.’ I was like, that’s the most sorry, asinine thing I’ve ever heard.”
Mendes and Gosling met before starring in The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011 and have two daughters: Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amanda Lee, 8.

David Leitch’s action-comedy The Fall Guy isn’t the normal kind of stunt Hollywood usually relies on to herald the start of the summer box office, but these aren’t normal times.
Outside of the pandemic era, that job belonged to superhero tentpoles, and specifically Marvel Studios fare (including all four Avengers movies). And Marvel returned to do the honors last year when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 debuted to $118.4 million over the May 5-7 weekend. But Hollywood was thrown off kilter again by last year’s labor strikes, with the release calendar put in disarray. Then there’s the not so-little-issue of superhero fatigue, which has forced both Marvel Studios and DC Entertainment to regroup, although Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine should a long way to aiding Marvel.

Ryan Gosling may be everyone’s favorite Ken right now, but even back in the day there were some people who didn’t see the actor’s potential male lead — and it has to do with the movie that brought Gosling to the place where he currently is.
In 2004 Ryan Gosling rose to exorbitant prominence after starring in the romantic drama The Notebook alongside Rachel McAdams. Based on Nicholas Sparks’ book of the same name, the film follows the elderly couple of Noah and Alison Calhoun who spend the rest of their days in a modern-day nursing home.
The main dramatical twist of the whole story is that Alison suffers from dementia and doesn’t even recognise her husband and visiting children, thus Noah chooses to read her a romantic novel that recounts their love story.

The Samsung TV Plus platform has logged steady growth as a distribution platform for entertainment and lifestyle content during the past five years. Now, the South Korean electronics giant is putting a bigger spotlight on the potential of its device-based footprint, which encompasses more than 630 million TV sets, smartphones and other devices sold across 24 countries.
Samsung Ads hosted a NewFronts presentation April 30 in Midtown Manhattan that vividly demonstrated how the company has expanded the horizons of the Samsung TV Plus platform that is built into the operating system of the company’s devices. Hype can kill a great moviegoing experience. And frankly, there was a lot of hype even before I stepped into David Leitch’s take on the classic series, The Fall Guy. Thankfully, this time, it’s beyond well warranted. Starring the ridiculously charismatic Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, this love letter to the amazing world of stuntwork shines. The action is predictably glorious – it’s David Leitch, the man excels at this – and the performances are perfection. It’s that rare cinematic treat that manages to do nearly everything well, and it works. Whether or not you are familiar with the cool as hell Lee Majors series (1981-86), you will fall for Leitch’s amazing work.

Normally, the summer movie season would kick off with a Marvel superhero movie, but this May, we’re doing things a little differently. Read on for Gold Derby’s box office preview.
This year and for the first time since the pandemic, Marvel isn’t launching the month of May. Instead, Universal jumped on the date for its new action comedy “The Fall Guy,” loosely based on the popular ’80s series starring Lee Majors. Two of the Oscar-nominated stars from last year’s blockbuster “Barbenheimer” phenom unite for this new action rom-com from filmmaker David Leitch (“Bullet Train”). Those stars, of course, are Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who were nominated for Greta Gerwig‘s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan‘s Best Picture-winning “Oppenheimer,” respectively, two of the biggest movies of 2023. “The Fall Guy” premiered at the SXSW Film and TV Festival and even played at the annual exhibitors’ convention, CinemaCon,...

A24 has officially signed on to John Patton Ford’s “Huntington” (working title) for U.S. distribution. Also joining are new cast members Ed Harris and Margaret Qualley, who will star alongside the previously announced Glen Powell.
“Huntington” is a revenge thriller that follows Becket Redfellow (Powell), the “heir to a multi-billion-dollar fortune who will stop at nothing to get what he deserves… Or what he thinks he deserves.”
Ford will direct “Huntington” (or whatever it is titled by then). He already wrote the original screenplay, which was inspired by the film’s financier Studiocanal’s “Kind Hearts and Coronets,” the classic 1949 crime film starring Alec Guinness, who famously played eight different roles in the film.
Enjoy the new casting choices? Credit casting director Lucy Bevan of “Barbie. EVP of Global Production Ron Halpern and SVP of Global Production Joe Naftalin will oversee “Huntington” for Studiocanal, with Pete Czernin and...

Say hello to sequel season.
That might as well be the nickname for this summer’s slate of potential blockbusters. Over the next four months, Hollywood is rolling out what it hopes will be a winning mix of follow-ups, reboots and spinoffs from tested franchises like “Despicable Me” and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it looks to reinvigorate the shaky movie theater business.
Last summer flipped the script: New properties, such as “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” ruled, while entries in aging series, like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Mission Impossible 7,” missed the mark. This time out, the tried-and-true may yet prevail. Original offerings like Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s action-comedy “The Fall Guy” and Kevin Costner’s Western “Horizon: An American Saga” will attempt to lure audiences. But analysts anticipate that overly familiar brands — “Despicable Me 4,” Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2...

Producer Kelly McCormick isn’t prone to counting chickens before they hatch, especially when they come in the form of $125 million blockbusters built around the long-gestating resurrection of some classic TV IP. But, given the critical affection already poured on her latest, “The Fall Guy,” and the apparent readiness of the moviegoing public to see a tentpole that truly has it all (plus stunts so massive they are already literal world record-breakers), it might be time for McCormick to start thinking “franchise potential” right now.
As co-founder of the production and action design company 87North — along with her husband, “The Fall Guy” director David Leitch — McCormick is a major player in the action space. Man, does she have fun with it. She’s produced everything from “Bullet Train” and “Atomic Blonde” to “Nobody,” along with executive producing “Deadpool 2” and “Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.”

During the quarantine era of the Covid-19 pandemic, major cultural events were shaped by an internet connection. Many remember the weeks' worth of discussions after watching Netflix's "Tiger King" shortly after the world started shutting down, and the hours spent toiling away in virtual worlds like "Animal Crossing." But for horror fans, one of the biggest events happened in 2021, when Netflix released a trilogy of horror films based on R.L. Stine's "Fear Street" novels, with a new film released three Fridays in a row. Director Leigh Janiak created "Fear Street Part One: 1994," "Fear Street Part Two: 1978," and "Fear Street Part Three: 1666" based on Stine's books but without directly following any specific storyline, and they instantly became must-watch movies.

It has been a great past year for Margot Robbie after the success of her blockbuster movie Barbie, and now the Australian star is gearing up for a new superhero project that she will reportedly star in. This is not her first stint in a comic book role as she has previously portrayed Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad.

Could The Fall Guy convince the Academy to finally make a stunts Oscar category? Ryan Gosling seems to think so.
Tomorrow marks the release of The Fall Guy here in the UK, with Ryan Gosling looking to build on the surge in popularity he has enjoyed since wowing audiences as Ken in last year’s Barbie.
Now, Gosling is set to open 2024’s blockbuster season with the action comedy directed by David Leitch and co-starring Emily Blunt.
Despite being the film’s star, Gosling used the film’s premiere to direct some love towards the stunt performers who made the film (and many others like it), calling the movie “a love letter to the stunt community.” With the film’s director David Leitch having worked his way to directing via the career of stunt performer, we’re hoping the movie delivers on that promise and despite the obviously comedic tone,...

It appears Ryan Gosling and Mikey Day reprised their iconic Beavis and Butt-Head characters sooner than fans were likely expecting.
The actor was joined by the Saturday Night Live star on Tuesday night at the Los Angeles premiere of Gosling’s latest movie, The Fall Guy.
After the Barbie star initially walked the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in a mint-green Gucci suit with his co-star Emily Blunt, Gosling later returned — only this time looking a bit different.
Gosling and Day posed for photos as their live-action depictions of Beavis and Butt-Head, the main characters from the hit ’90s adult animated series. Gosling was seen with a blonde wig and blue shirt with words that read, “Death Rock,” and Day had on a gray shirt with the word, “Skull.”

We recently got word that a live-action movie based on Rob Liefeld's fantasy/horror comic series Avengelyne was in development, and we have some exciting updates courtesy of Deadline.
As previously reported, the project will be directed by Olivia Wilde (Don't Worry Darling), with LuckyChap, the company Margot Robbie runs with Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, and Simon Kinberg, on board to produce. Now, we've learned that Warner Bros is negotiating to close a seven-figure film-rights deal for the movie, and Poor Things scribe Tony McNamara has signed on to pen the script.
The trade also confirmed that Robbie is interested in playing the title role, but it sounds like her decision will be script-dependent.
An earlier version of the movie was in the works back in 2013, with former The Mandalorian actress Gina Carano attached to star.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt are ready to leap into action later this week when The Fall Guy races into theaters. As the blistery winter winds blow away and the summer heat increases in certain parts of the world, the duo’s new action-packed homage to stunt performers arrives to take the box office (and your wallet) by storm! Analysts expect The Fall Guy to reach $30M+ in its opening gambit, with some studio execs saying the film could reach $35-40 million.
While a box office opening in the 30s would be solid for an original action film, The Fall Guy cost a reported $130 million to produce. If you like the film, be sure to sing its praises from the rafters. Word of mouth goes a long way with films like this, regardless of the fact that two of Hollywood’s heaviest hitters lead the charge. Meanwhile, The Fall Guy...

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, two essential ingredients in the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, will leave Barbieland and Los Alamos behind them as they team up for “The Fall Guy.” But will audiences turn up in force to see the “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” stars when their new action comedy debuts this weekend?
Well, “The Fall Guy” isn’t going to hit those films’ box office heights, but it should have no trouble topping charts as it kicks off the summer movie season. The film is expected to earn north of $30 million, with some rival studio executives pegging the opening at between $35 million to $40 million. The catch is that movie wasn’t cheap to produce, boasting a healthy budget of $130 million, so “The Fall Guy” will need strong word-of-mouth if it’s going to leg it out on the long path to profitability. It will also need to do well overseas. “The Fall Guy...

Warner Bros. in Talks to Land ‘Avengelyne’ With Margot Robbie Eyeing to Star, Tony McNamara to Write
The feature adaptation of “Avengelyne” from Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie and “X-Men” producer Simon Kinberg is being set up at Warner Bros. The studio is close to finalizing a seven-figure film rights deal.
Robbie is eyeing the role of the titular angel who fights the forces of evil and often finds herself face-to-face with demons and monsters. “Deadpool” co-creator Rob Liefeld first brought the comic book character to life in 1995. “Poor Things” scribe Tony McNamara will pen the screenplay.
“This incredibly humbling journey to bring Avengelyne to life onscreen started through my relationship with super-producer Simon Kinberg who told me he had a perfect fit for the material and asked me to trust him,” Liefeld told Variety in an exclusive statement. “Next thing I’m meeting with Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde and the connection was electric! The Fall Guy Producer On Ryan Gosling & Emily Blunt’s On-Screen Relationship ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling created box office history with their respective movies last year. Oppenheimer and Barbie not only clashed at the theatres, but both were successful. The Barbenheimer clash [Barbie & Oppenheimer] was one of the most talked about topics on social media last year, and now the actors have paired up for the movie The Fall Guy about stunt performers. Producer Kelly McCormick has recently given an insight into Ryan and Emily’s incredible chemistry on the film’s set.
Emily and Ryan are two of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, and they rekindled their Barbenheimer banter on the 96th Academy Awards stage last month. Although Blunt did not take home the golden statuette, her team ruled the night with seven wins, including Best Picture. Meanwhile, Ryan’s Barbie won the box office war last year.

While Greta Gerwig’s Academy Award-nominated “Barbie” was the highest-grossing film of 2023, as we’ve seen over the course of the last year, it angered and irritated many. From Oliver Stone to Kelly Reichardt to Ruben Östlund, seemingly everyone had a take on “Barbie” they were willing to share. The latest person to weigh in on the film, or at least give their candid thoughts, was TV super producer/writer Shonda Rhimes, known for “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “Bridgerton,” and her Shondaland TV producing empire.

With hindsight being 20/20 and all, it may be a shock to learn that when Jane Fonda and producing partner Bruce Gilbert wanted to make a workplace comedy about three secretaries who decide to enact revenge on their tyrannical, chauvinist boss called "9 to 5," few people (see: men) in positions of power thought the film would be a success. And yet, the film -- which got its name after a grassroots organization of women fighting for workplace equality and fair pay (that is still around today) -- was a box-office smash, launched the mainstream career of Dolly Parton outside of music, and inspired both a TV adaptation and a Broadway musical.
Featuring interviews with Parton, Fonda, Lily Tomlin, countless others who worked on the film, the TV adaptation (Rita Moreno!), the Broadway musical (Allison Janney!), and activists from then and now, the documentary "Still Working 9 to 5" currently boasts a 93% critical score.

The past two weekends at the box office have been, in a word, miserable. Yes, "Challengers" won this most recent frame with a $15 million opening, but the total take for the weekend domestically was just over $60 million. Last weekend, when "Abigail" and Guy Ritchie's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" underperformed, the weekend total was barely above $65 million. When total ticket sales for a weekend are less than what would be a so-so opening weekend for a summer blockbuster, things are dire. Fortunately, there are a couple of bright spots among the darkness.
On its fifth weekend in theaters, "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" pulled in $7.2 million domestically, dropping just 25% from weekend four. It held the number three spot on the charts behind this weekend's newcomers, "Challengers" and "Unsung Hero" ($7.75 million). That was also enough to bring it past the $500 million mark globally. Director Adam Wingard's monster flick...
