Michael Mann's Heat (1995) is showing November 11 - December 11, 2017 on Mubi in the United Kingdom.Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) emerges from a train with unassuming poise, mingling seamlessly with the other disembarking passengers. As they recede into the background, however, congealing into airy circular blurs of out-of-focus features, Neil becomes the obvious point of attention, even more so as the camera pulls back and follows his journey from a comparative distance. In the guise of a medic, he makes his way to a hospital and coasts through its thoroughfares, passing oblivious employees and patients, until he arrives at his destination: an ambulance, which he steals. Neil’s anonymity enabled the theft and it allowed for his inconspicuous progress. He fit in. He seemed natural. Wherever he went, he had the perceptible appearance of belonging. This is key to what distinguishes Heat, Michael Mann’s 1995 contemporary crime masterpiece. Capitalizing on...

Moreover, like the community organizations patronized by the War on Poverty in the 1960s, Third World NGOs have proven brilliant at coopting local leadership as well as hegemonizing the social space traditionally occupied by the Left.—Mike Davis, Planet of Slums “J’aide.” —Alex, Murder in PacotThere’s a dead boy under the rubble and a wretched smell in the air. Once again based on true events, never underestimate the kindness of The Strangers.
Early last month we got our first image and title for the sequel for the 2008 Horror film The Strangers. Now we have our first trailer for Prey At Night, check it out below.
Looks kind of intense if you ask me. However, I do worry that this will end up being a very run of the mill basic horror film. The magic of the first was that it was confined to a single area, while this looks like the characters are on the run.
Set for release on the near 10 year anniversary of the original film, March 9, 2018. Johannes Roberts, the man that brought the most incredible shark film of recent memory, 47 Meters Down, is set to direct. Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) and Bailee Madison (Once Upon a Time) are set to star.

This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.
The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.
Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding association with the supernatural – whether as an omen...

One may assume playing an autistic character and having autism would be easy, but actor Mickey Rowe assures us it's not. Check out his story below!

One of the most terrifying home-invasion horror films of recent history is finally getting a sequel. And now it not only has a new image, but a brand new title.
First off, back in 2008 I went to theaters to see a little known film called The Strangers. It stared Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a struggling couple in a vacation home out on its own when they are terrorized by a group of individuals in masks. Roughly based on the Tate Murders of the summer on 1969. It absolutely terrified me. To this day the film is one of my all-time favorite horror films, and has grown as a cult classic of the horror genre.
Now it looks like we are finally getting our sequel to it. Filming began early this year on the project which was known at the time only as The Strangers 2, but now Bloody Disgusting is...

Mathieu Turi's post-apocalyptic yarn Hostile continues a film festival run. The film is slated for appearances in New York and Los Angeles, via the New York City Horror Film Festival and the Shriekfest Horror Film Festival. A trailer has just been released for the film. The clip shows Juliet (Brittany Ashworth) struggling in a desolate world. At night, deformed creatures hound her. Also, the film stars: Grégory Fitoussi (World War Z), Javier Botet and David Gasman. Thriller fans can find the first trailer here. Story details mostly remain in mystery. However, the synopsis mentions an "apocalyptic era" and " [Juliet's] fight to survive." The trailer shows more of Juliet's struggles as she searches for gas and supplies. Events come to a head in the desert, with Juliet facing off against a monster. A few reviews are starting to come in for Hostile. Joseph Perry, of Scream Horror Mag, says of the...

There are images that stick with you for a lifetime, that remind you of moments that you will treasure till the end of your days. For many horror fans, those images were created by artist Basil Gogos, who recently passed away at the age of 78. While Gogos is gone, there is no doubt that for countless fans, his work and his influence will live on forever.
Perhaps no other artist in modern history has captured the monsters of the horror genre as iconically as Gogos did. His illustrations were simultaneously vibrant and gothic, displaying classic Universal Monsters against splashes of eye-catching colors, making the old new again in a daring, ambitious approach to art.
Many of Gogos' illustrations of Universal Monsters, along with characters from Hammer horror films played by the likes of Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, found a home on the magazine covers of Famous Monsters of Filmland,...

September is a month of new beginnings.
Summer fades into fall, school begins again, and the movie world is buzzing with the Toronto International Film Festival, which we're lucky to host here in Canada. However, even if you can't make it to Tiff, quite a few titles from the festival open in theatres across the country in September, so you can still be a part of the conversation.
Not only that, but there's plenty of highly-anticipated blockbusters opening this month, including the re-make of Stephen King's It, the sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, and another Lego inspired animated adventure.
Check out our list of the movies you need to see this September!

It’s finally here in all its glory, the Howard Hawks movie nobody loves. The epitome of clueless ’60s filmmaking by an auteur who left his thinking cap back with Bogie and Bacall, this show is a PC quagmire lacking the usual compensation of exploitative thrills. But hey, it has a hypnotic appeal all its own: we’ll not abandon any movie where Teri Garr dances.

And then another plane is added, a cascade of water from top to bottom, brewing a three dimensional cinematic hurricane in homage to—and in magical reconstruction of—the terrific storm that hit Galveston, Texas in 1900. I think the Green Hornet is starting to believe his own press clippings.
The Green Hornet is a hero who pretends to be a villain. By day he’s Britt Reid, publisher of Chicago’s The Daily Sentinel newspaper. At night, Britt dresses up as the Green Hornet and pretends to be the secret crime boss of Chicago. He uses his guise as a villain to infiltrate criminal organizations and thwart them. And get the bad guys arrested. So sometimes he does some bad things but for the right reasons. Only now I think he’s starting to believe he is a criminal, because in The Green Hornet: Reign of the Demon #1, he started doing bad things for the wrong reasons.

It’s one of the most stunning seven minutes of filmed action in years. Undercover MI6 agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) enters an apartment building to find and stop the snipers making it impossible to sneak her asset, Spyglass (Eddie Marsan), out of East Berlin. In one long take — or at least what would appear to be one — she fights a series of well-trained assassins, using both hand-to-hand combat and her gun in a scene that is both viscerally exciting and edge-of-your-seat thrilling.

Sofia Coppola now represents just the second woman of seventy Cannes Best Director Award winners. That’s a baffling male slant of 68 to two. The Beguiled, her prize winner, is an immaculate exercise in aesthetic restraint. Every facet of its design is an echo of the screams curdling beneath a relentless Southern gentility.
Critical to this masterfully controlled technique is Coppola’s Oscar-nominated cinematographer Philippe Le Sourd Afc. Philippe and I discuss the film’s use of perspective, his unique low-contrast take on visual oppression, and how camera movement can disrupt the emotion of a scene.
Philippe shot Kodak V3 500T 5219 and pull processed the entire negative by a stop for reduced grain, contrast, and range in the shadows. Shot with an Arricam Lt body Cooke S2’s and Panavision Ultra Speeds for their delicate rendering and fast apertures. Panavision customized a ‘close-up filter’ for Le Sourd to imitate the 1860’s style Petzval lensed portraits.

It was love at first sight for Lindsey Vonn.
“When I walked in for the first time, I said, ‘This is it! This is my house,” says Vonn, who immediately snapped up the cozy five-bedroom home in Vail, Colorado – the first she’s ever owned – after seeing it two years ago.
With sweeping views of snow-capped peaks and a river below, the light-flooded “mountain contemporary” hideaway tucked into the Gore Range was a no-brainer for the Olympic ski champion.

Cream cleansers? Oh, no you don't. According to celeb aesthetician Vanessa Hernandez, your face wash could be thing that's standing in the way between clean pores and gunky ones. The skin-care pro, who calls Amber Valletta, Grey's Anatomy star Jessica Capshaw and even goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow as clients, says your creamy face wash is...well...skin deep. "At night to wash, I recommend a bubbly, foamy, gentle cleanser—no cream cleansers, no oil cleansers, because they don't really work," advised the pro. "Try using a cream cleanser. After drying your face with a towel, you'll see that you'll still have—if you're wearing makeup—stuff left over." ...

This weekend saw the release of a few movies in the form of the Pixar flick Cars 3, the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me, not to mention, the shark movie 47 Meters Down, and the comedy film Rough Night. The past weekend brought a bit of a mixed bag.

As expected Cars 3 did okay, taking in $53 million in its opening weekend. It was enough to firmly land it in first place, but it was nothing to get excited about. It had the least successful opening of any Cars film to date, and as it stands, it has one of the lower grossing openings of Pixar films as a whole. That being said, it isn’t a bad opening,...

comScore today announced the official worldwide weekend box office estimates for the weekend of June 11, 2017, as compiled by the company’s theatrical measurement services.
Wonder Woman performed amazingly in its second weekend, taking in $57.2 million domestically, only dropping 44.6 percent from its already-stellar first weekend. As Warner Bros. hoped, the film has managed to garner amazing word of mouth, resulting in its solid second weekend. As of this writing, the film has taken in $435 million worldwide. When all said and done, we wouldn’t be surprised if it neared $750 million worldwide by the end of its run, but we’ll have to wait and see.
The Mummy, on the other hand, did not do as well as hoped. Projections a week or so prior to the film’s release pegged it at around $35 million to $42 million, but as soon as the negative reviews started to pour in, that prediction was lowered to around $32 million.

Colcoa is keeping up with the times. Now in its twenty-first year, the lauded French film festival, sponsored by the Franco-American Cultural Fund, has added a pair of forward-thinking new categories for its newest edition. This year will include a virtual reality program and a web series competition, in addition to its Cinema, Television and Shorts competitions.
“These two new popular formats offer more opportunities to showcase the creativity of French producers and filmmakers as well as the diversity of French production,” said François Truffart, Colcoa Executive Producer and Artistic Director. “While entertainment is still the key word for the program, with a balanced mix of comedies and dramas, several topical issues will cover the program this year, including the environment, discrimination, racism, terrorism, and the role of the artist in society. More than ever, Colcoa will offer a unique opportunity to see these universal topics from different angles.”

Want to make a short film based on one of Stephen King's stories? Chances are that it'll only cost you a dollar...
Stephen King is, you might say, a bit prolific. With over 50 novels, 6 nonfiction books, and 200 short stories to his name (or Richard Bachman's), King has one of the hardest-working pens/typewriters/laptops in the writing world. And best of all, when it comes to King's work, quantity does equal quality.
That's probably why Hollywood is constantly optioning his countless works for big blockbuster film adaptations. Guys like Frank Darabont, Brian De Palma, Stanley Kubrick, George A. Romero, John Carpenter, Lawrence Kasdan, and Rob Reiner have all taken stabs (no pun intended) at his work. Many of them are even great films that hold their own, which is very rare in the novel-to-film adaptation business, especially when the source material is as high-profile as King's.
