On October 28, 1986, an estimated 2.2 million people jammed downtown Manhattan for the New York Mets' World Series victory parade. One person was notably absent from the celebration: Mets pitcher Dwight "Doc" Gooden. Though team reps claimed that their prodigiously talented young hurler had "overslept," the hotshot player was actually watching the parade at home while coming down from a night of heavy partying at the home of his cocaine dealer.
Darryl Strawberry, the Mets' All Star right fielder, had been tasked by the team with picking up Gooden on the way to the parade,...

Nick Adams is Wicked, Old Spice gets creepy, Liam McIntyre gets married
If your dream is to see Nick Adams in person, you may get your chance. He’s joined the touring company of Wicked as Fiyero, with their first show taking place in Pittsburgh February 4. That’s really an easy four hour drive for me…
Just when you thought Jan Brewer was as nuts as a governor could get in Arizona, Steven Seagal says that he’s considering running for the office. He’s even made friends with right wing Sheriff Joe Arpaio. His primary concern is what he sees as terrorists crossing the border from Mexico. Next thing you know, he’ll make it all a reality show.
The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines has begun issuing the first fiancé visas for same sex couples, including one to a lesbian couple who has since wed after a ten year long distance relationship.

On Tuesday, Conan O'Brien introduced "Comedy For DVRs," a segment that is basically a little Easter egg for all of us who do nothing for his Nielson ratings (yet).
The only way to enjoy the joke, you see, is to pause... and pause... and pause.
This inaugural gag was called "Rejected Game Of Thrones" characters and, like SNL's "Fox & Friends" corrections, it's a long list that flies by way too fast to read. Fortunately, we had nothing better to do than painstakingly transcribe the full list, and we're here to tell you, it was worth it.
Watch the clip above, then check out the rejected names below and let us know which are your favorites. Personally, we're holding out hope that one day "Lady Sideboob Of Huffington" and "K.D. Langister" turn up on GoT.

As a child, Steven Spielberg was captivated by dinosaurs. He collected cast-iron figurines of them and preferred them in starring roles on the big screen. “I was more interested in the dinosaurs in King Kong than I was in King Kong himself,” remembers the Academy Award-winning director. “I thought the T. rex was one of the most awesome dinosaurs of the fossil record! But I never knew how to parlay all my love for paleontology into a story until Michael Crichton came along and wrote his book.”
That book was Jurassic Park, which Spielberg adapted in 1993 into an exhilarating adventure...

The bash was filmed for the couple’s upcoming TLC reality show. Kids enjoyed fun and educational crafts from BabbaCo’s Babbabox and went home with Itzy Ritzy‘s reusable adorable snack backs filled with personalized labels from Mabel’s Labels.

President Barack Obama's appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman" boosted the CBS talk show to its highest overnight ratings since February 2010.
Last night's "Late Show" averaged a 4.0/10, topping all hours since the Feb. 9, 2010 installment with Jennifer Garner, swimsuit model Brooklyn Decker and Sade delivered a 4.3/10. That was during the transition period after Conan O'Brien had left "The Tonight Show," but before Jay Leno resumed hosting.
The Obama ratings are up 60% from Letterman's Tuesday average this year and up 67% over the show' weekday average during the 2011-2012 season.
Obama's appearance was particularly powerful in New York, attracting nearly half a million viewers and a 2.6 rating in adults 25-54. It was the most watched "Late Show" in New York since Jan. 2, 2008. CBS notes "Late Show" was also tops in the time period among total viewers in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston, Minneapolis, Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Baltimore.

Jurassic Park star Jeff Goldblum almost lost his virginity to a prostitute when he was 13 with cash he stole from his father's wallet.
The actor was an awkward school kid who struggled with the opposite sex and decided to give himself a headstart in carnal knowledge by visiting a brothel in his native Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
But after stealing $10 (£6.25) from his dad, walking into the city and locating the red light district friends had raved about, he couldn't go through with the sex act.
Appearing on Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live! in America, Goldblum recalled, "We didn't get allowances so I went into my dad's wallet and got, I think, $10 - I thought that would suffice... and then I walked (to this place) after dark with this money in my pocket.
"Sure enough, where I'd heard that there were these places... there was a kind of an alley and a bunch of doorways and it was kind of dark with red lighting... and there was a girl or two hanging out.
"I proceeded to go into one of them and it was kinda dark inside and there were some girls sitting around the living room."
The actor was welcomed by the madam and given the pick of her girls. He picked one and she led him towards a bedroom at the end of a hall.
He added, "Halfway down the hallway, I said, 'Wait a minute, what time is it....? I'm so sorry, I forgot I have to do something. I'll be back...' I just chickened out."
But, in hindsight, The Fly star is glad he didn't lose his virginity to a hooker: "It probably would have scarred me. It probably wouldn't have gone well."...

Vince Vaughn is about to go to the land of Tyler Perry and Conan O'Brien. THR reports that TBS has ordered a comedy pilot of Sullivan and Son, a half-hour project starring comedian Steve Byrne. Filming is expected to begin later this year on the show that follows the "legendary Pittsburgh bar, which serves as the unofficial "town hall" of the working-class neighborhood."
Here is a description of the show:
"Steve Sullivan (Byrne) is the son of the current bar owner and the grandson of its founder who leaves his successful corporate attorney gig in New York to take over Sullivan & Son. The series chronicles his attempt to find a more rewarding life behind the bar."
The show is to be scripted by Byrne, and has Rob Long (Cheers) as showrunner. Vaughn and Peter Billingsley join Long as executive producers on the show. This should be a funny new show,...

Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton in Warrior
Photo: Lionsgate Outside of a powerful and intense performance from Tom Hardy, Gavin O'Connor's Warrior promises a lot early but is quite muted along the way to an ending I got very little out of. I was never quite sure what the payoff was supposed to be, but as far as I can tell there is no happy ending and there is no sad ending, in fact, there is hardly an ending to speak of. Walking away from the theater I was left wishing the overlong 139 minute feature had found a way to scratch 30 minutes from its run time or at least give me something to care about as the credits rolled.
The story centers on two brothers, separated due to family troubles when they were teens. Tommy (Tom Hardy), a one-time promising young wrestler, went with his mother when she left their alcoholic,...

Warner Bros has released the first official photo of Anne Hathaway in the full Catwoman outfit from "The Dark Knight Rises." The reason for the unveil is out of fear that the first photos of Catwoman would end up being shots taken by fans in the Pittsburgh area, where filming is taking place. So now that Hathaway has started shooting her scenes, photos of her stunt double are appearing online. They once again feature Catwoman on the Batpod, but from different angles. And since it's hard to ignore all the buzz around "The Dark Knight Rises," Conan O'Brien decided to unveil some set footage as well. It features Batman hitting Catwoman with the Tumbler. Check out the video and all the photos below. Official Photo: (click to enlarge) Set Photos: (click to enlarge) Conan O'Brien Video: If you cannot see the player, click here. The Next Three Days
Directed by: Paul Haggis
Cast: Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson
Running Time:
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: November 19, 2010
Read Bayer’s Tsr 9/10 of The Next Three Days
Plot: After his wife (Banks) is sent to prison for a murder she may not have committed, a Pittsburgh man (Crowe) devises a plan to break her out.
Who’S It For? This one might work for those who didn’t see the lawyer-driven Conviction, but are still compelled by a movie about getting a loved one out of jail one way or the other.
Expectations: The few fleeting commercials I had seen made it look like a bit of an action movie, which was interesting considering that writer/director Paul Haggis has done writing work of his own on the latest two James Bond movies.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Russell Crowe as John Brennan: It’s hard not to like this character.

Often disguised as somewhere else, Toronto has been a popular filming location for years, as Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World points out. Here’s Jeff’s tribute to the geekiest location in cinema...
"They film movies in Toronto?" one character says, rather incredulously, in the recent Edgar Wright extravaganza, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World. They certainly do.
Toronto is the cinematic equivalent of Cinderella: although it hosts one of the world's biggest film festivals and is often seen in movies and TV, it's usually dolled up to look like some other North American metropolis, say New York or Chicago, a fact the recent Scott Pilgrim makes sure to satirise.
The city's most iconic piece of architecture, the Cn Tower (formerly the world's tallest freestanding structure) is often hidden away, lest cinemagoers ever identify the city's skyline by its giant phallus.
Toronto so often represents other cities, or any city, that...

He plays jazz piano, thinks acting is a 'magical, mystical journey' – and couldn't care less about the money. Kira Cochrane talks to Jeff Goldblum as he hits the West End
Jeff Goldblum was just a small child when he resolved to become an actor, but he kept this passion secret for the best part of a decade. The idea of acting intoxicated him, he says, leaning towards me in an upstairs room at the Old Vic theatre in London, his long limbs folding in on themselves, eyes bulging, a rhythmic click emanating occasionally from his throat. (It's not hard to see why David Cronenberg cast him as a fly.) He continues speaking in his strange scat-singer style.
"During those years, I would take a shower," he says, "and it had a door, not a curtain, a door, a glass door, which would steam up, and I'd write every morning – because I hadn't told anyone,...

It's Friday again, and that means two things. First, you need to think about leaving work early so you can get a good seat for "A Nightmare on Elm Street," paint your face for tonight's NHL playoff game (that would be the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Montreal Canadiens) or just tuck into a nice juicy steak. But while you're planning your escape, you should really catch up on anything you might have missed this week at the MTV Newsroom blog, which closed out the month of April with a heaping helping of tributes to Siobhan Magnus, more speculation about Conan O'Brien's new show and at least one endorsement of the Los Angeles Lakers.
» This week on "American Idol," the nation said goodbye to Siobhan Magnus, who took her eclectic taste in fashion and headed back to her glassblowing studio in Massachusetts.

Get ready Jeff Goldblum fans - tonight at 10:00 Pm on USA Network you can catch him on the Season 9 premiere of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
We were lucky enough to participate in an interview with “The Fly” star this week and, as always, he did not disappoint. Sure he talked about the new season and all the controversial series changes. But he also covered those internet death rumors, his favorite hobby (he’s a jazz pianist), some of his movie roles, and our personal favorite Goldblum career highlight, Tenspeed and Brownshoe.
Read what Goldblum had to say and watch our red carpet interview with Goldblum at last summer’s Oceana event where he talked about bee keeping and curling. Here are some of our random thoughts of Jeff Goldblum.
Q: How was it being dead? And, how was it giving your own eulogy on the Colbert Report?
Jeff: Those are great questions.

After eight seasons, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian say goodbye in a dramatic two-part season opener that begins Tuesday at 10 p.m. Est and concludes April 6. Jeff Goldblum, who joined the show last season as the offbeat Det. Zach Nichols, remains to welcome new additions Saffron Burrows (Det. Serena Stevens, Nichols' new partner) and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Capt. Zoe Callas, who assumes control of the Major Case Squad). The always game Goldblum phoned PopWatch last Friday on his lunch break -- 5:30 p.m. -- before settling in for a long night shoot.

One month, 280 films and 70,000 words later, my guide to the films of 2010 is now complete. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. If you have liked it, my only request is that you help spread the word about it now that it's all done.
If you're a fellow blogger or site owner, please give it a plug on your site. If you're a reader, give it a mention on Facebook, Twitter or other online places you might venture. A lot of effort went into this, the greatest reward so far has been seeing it talked about and hearing your reactions. I'm glad many of you have gotten a lot of use out of the previous pages, so I hope you enjoy this final part:

Jeff Goldblum has been a regular big-screen presence since forgetting his mantra in 1977's "Annie Hall." The Pittsburgh native went on to make his mark as oily but charismatic anti-heroes in "The Fly" and "Jurassic Park." But little in his past hinted at the intensity he displays in Friday's "Adam Resurrected." Directed by "Taxi Driver" and "Raging Bull" screenwriter Paul Schrader, the film, based on a controversial Israeli novel, stars Goldblum as Adam Stein,...

Getting a chance to interview Kevin Smith is one of those moments where you know you aren't going to have enough time, that is if you know the man at all and have ever heard him speak. Hell, if you have ever seen "An Evening with Kevin Smith" you already know what I am talking about, he told a story about Prince that lasted over 40 minutes and each and every minute of it was entertaining. Considering the fact that I had 30 minutes with the man, when one-on-one interviews are traditionally only limited to 15 minutes or so, you would think I would be ecstatic, but we only got to about 50% of my questions since we went off on so many tangents. It wasn't until six minutes in that we even got on topic, which is Zack and Miri Make a Porno, opening this Friday, October 31. I had seen Max Payne that...

Loretta Devine has been tapped to co-star opposite Jonny Lee Miller in ABC's drama pilot Eli Stone.
Meanwhile, Illeana Douglas has landed a recurring role on CBS' freshman drama series Shark.
Eli, produced by Touchstone Television and studio-based Berlanti Television, is a high-concept legal drama about a lawyer (Miller) who finds out he might be a prophet. Devine has been cast as Eli's formidable assistant, a sardonic and refreshingly candid woman who always says exactly what she feels.
The project was written by Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, who are executive producing.
Devine portrays Adele Webber on ABC's Grey's Anatomy and has a role in the upcoming feature film Dreamgirls. Her recent credits also include the Lifetime Television movie "Life Is Not a Fairy Tale: The Fantasia Barrino Story" and Fox's Boston Public.
On Shark, Douglas will portray a smart, sexy defense attorney described as being tough enough to go toe to toe with the charismatic, self-confident defense attorney-turned-prosecutor Sebastian Stark (James Woods) and confident enough to have fun doing it.
Shark, from 20th Century Fox TV and studio-based Imagine TV, recently was given a full-season pickup.
Douglas' credits include the upcoming Edie Sedgwick biopic Factory Girl and the independent feature The Bondage. She recently did a turn playing herself in the comedy documentary Pittsburgh opposite Jeff Goldblum.
Douglas also has signed on for the film Life Is Hot in Cracktown, written and to be directed by Buddy Giovinazzo and produced by Larry Rattner and Braxton Pope.Devine and Douglas are repped by Innovative Artists.
