Over 15 years since Peter Jackson transported moviegoers to cinematic Middle Earth glory with the triumphant Lord of the Rings trilogy, Denis Villeneuve’s sprawling Dune saga aims to recapture that meticulous world-building spirit and sense of grand fantasy awe. Early reactions indicate March’s Dune: Part Two may achieve just that with the visionary director’s operatic, star-powered sequel earning near-universal raves on par with Jackson’s signature Hobbit highs.

Dune: Part Two is off to a great start with critics, who are foaming at the mouth in their attempt to describe how awesome it is.
Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film continues the saga of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) as he joins forces with the Fremen to battle the Harkonnen empire. Chalamet is joined by Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling and Javier Bardem in his quest, with Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken and Léa Seydoux added to the cast.
Dune: Part Two opens in theaters nationwide March 1 from Warner Bros. The first Dune set a high bar for this second film, earning 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
But Dune: Part Two has already drawn reviews that stamp it as an early contender for film event of the year.

The first reactions are in for the first hugely anticipated movie of 2024: Dune 2.
The long-delayed sequel from director Denis Villeneuve continues the story of author Frank Herbert’s space epic and the initial reactions are extremely enthusiastic, with many calling the film a masterpiece of cinema that is even better than Dune.
Dune: Part Two picks up right after the first installment, as Timothée Chalament’s Paul Atreides joins forces with the Fremen and seeks revenge against the enemies who murdered his family, possibly saving the universe along the way.
The film was originally set to release in November 2023, but because of the actors strike, Warner Bros. and Legendary chose to push it to March 2024, so that its star-studded cast, which also includes Zendaya, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh, would be able to promote it.

On the same day TheWrap broke the news exclusively that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has returned to the “Fast and Furious” franchise, the film had one of its first screenings, and you know what that means: The first reactions are in.
So how do viewers feel about “Fast X,” the latest installment of the retroactively named “Fast Saga”? Is the #Family thrilled? Or did the new Dom Toretto and Friends adventure blow a gasket?
To answer that question, it seems some people loved it, some people noted a lot of flaws, and as is usual for this series, often they were the same people. But everyone seems to agree that Jason Momoa is an absolute delight as the film’s villain, and that the spectacle rules.
“Jason Momoa is a high front runner for Best Supporting Actor at next years Oscars,” The Atom Review crowed.

Hollywood came to the Colosseum on Friday as “Fast X” held a star-studded “Road to Rome” premiere, featuring Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, John Cena, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, Rita Moreno and a host of other talents prancing on a red carpet rolled out in the Forum’s Temple of Venus, with the historical landmark as a backdrop.
The social media embargo expired after the Rome premiere, and people who were lucky enough to see “Fast X” a week ahead of its stateside theatrical debut on May 19 are calling the movie “stupidly entertaining,” a “visual spectacle” and declaring that it puts the franchise “back on track.” Others praise Jason Momoa’s performance as the main villain, but admit there are also some “clunky elements” to the movie.

Even the greatest family reunions have to eventually come to an end, and that final turn in the road is within sight. While next week’s hotly anticipated Fast X will not be the actual conclusion to the epic Fast & Furious saga, it will lead directly into the 11th mainline film—aka the supposed last ride with Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto behind the wheel.
It’s been a long and winding trip, beginning nearly a quarter-century ago with quarter-mile races paid for by the theft of DVD players. No really, go back and watch The Fast and the Furious (2001), preferably on an old-fashioned 480p laser disc. The series of course evolved a lot after that, adding key extended family members like Roman (Tyrese Gibson) in 2 Fast 2 Furious and Ludicrous as Tej in the same film. Although what might be telling about Fast X is who isn’t there.

Fast X hits theaters next week and the first reactions to the beginning of the saga’s grand finale have emerged. If you’re not a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise, it doesn’t sound as though Fast X will win you over at this point. But if you’re already on board, get ready for the same non-stop thrills and over-the-top action you’ve come to expect. There was also plenty of praise for Jason Momoa, who plays the latest villain of the series. Check out the Fast X first reactions below!

The next time something goes bump in the night and you feel the temptation to dismiss it as nothing ... maybe consider the possibility that you're stuck in a terrifying Stephen King short story, instead. The acclaimed horror author has been able to enjoy a resurgence of adaptations of his work in recent years on both the big and small screen, from the immensely successful "It" movies to the supposedly "un-filmable" production of "Dark Tower." But unlike most other high-profile translations of King's full-length novels, the upcoming "The Boogeyman" is instead taking its cues from one minor work out of a collection of short stories featured in 1978's "Night Shift."
With a name like Rob Savage attached to direct from a script credited to Scott Beck, Bryan Woods, and Mark Heyman, there's nothing "minor" about this next movie. Once initially destined for an unceremonious, straight-to-streaming release on Hulu, one pivotal test...

The adaptation of Stephen King’s The Boogeyman screened at CinemaCon 2023 in Las Vegas, and it sounds as though audiences are in store for something quite creepy. The first social media reactions from critics, including our own Chris Bumbray, hail The Boogeyman as an effective horror thriller with some great scares that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Most surprisingly though is the action! There's some amazing horror action in it.

Keanu Reeves has appeared in dozens of movies during his legendary career, and most have been fan favorites. However, his starring role in the John Wick franchise solidified the actor’s status as one of Hollywood’s greatest action heroes. Reeves has portrayed John Wick for nearly a decade, and although the series’ fourth installment is set to hit theaters nationwide, the actor hasn’t grown tired of playing the slow-talking assassin.
In a recent interview, Reeves discussed why John Wick intrigues him, admitting he enjoys “playing characters who suffer.”

The John Wick series expanded to a globe-trotting adventure after the first became a runaway hit. The franchise has been to Italy, Morocco, Japan, and Paris. Now, Chapter 4 is heading to Austin, Texas, as the film is now set to have the first secret screening of the SXSW Film Festival. Variety is reporting that Keanu Reeves action sequel is set to be shown at a major venue next week.
Lionsgate, the studio distributing the film, and the organizers for the film festival have not commented on the story. Presumably, to keep the mystery going. However, a source has revealed that the movie’s digital marketing will play a big role in how attendees can grab their tickets to the secret screening.

It’s hard not to feel bad for the next few DC movies. While The Flash has been described as a universe reboot, setting up the first chapter of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios plans, dubbed “Gods and Monsters,” the others feel like unwanted leftovers. That’s particularly true of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, a movie whose predecessor contained only the slightest Snyderverse connections, but doesn’t seem to be setting up anything in DC Studios’ future.
Of course, we could also talk about the movie as, you know… a movie! Not as a part of a larger story or a franchise extender, but as a two-hour or so piece of entertainment that we watch and enjoy on its own merits. That approach served the first Shazam! well, which updated the Golden Age hero Captain Marvel to not only give him a copyright safe (if infinitely...

“John Wick: Chapter 4” officially bowed at its London premiere Monday evening, with the social media reactions embargo lifting during the event.
The fourth entry picks up following the end of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” which saw Keanu Reeves’ infamous assassin take a tumble from atop the Continental Hotel after being betrayed by his confidante Winston (Ian McShane). Of course, Wick lives. “Chapter 4” finds the deadly pariah traveling the globe to free himself from the rule of the elusive, cutthroat High Table.
The critical darling action series has drawn strong praise in its first round of reactions, especially for its deep bench of sparring partners that includes Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zazor, Scott Adkins and Rina Sawayama. Another central topic of opinion is the film’s runtime, which clocks in at a lengthy two hours and 49 minutes — 38 minutes longer than the previous entry’s.

In a little less than three weeks, John Wick (Keanu Reeves) will be back in theaters doing what he does best, which mostly revolves around killing dozens of baddies at once with anything and everything he can get his hands on. As you might imagine, the first reactions to John Wick: Chapter 4 are full of praise for the sequel’s incredible action and magnificent set pieces, with some even calling it the best of the franchise. The nearly three-hour runtime also didn’t deter fans, as it seems that every minute is packed with something phenomenal.

It's been a long time coming but, yeah, we're thinking he's back. Keanu Reeves has returned for the fourth installment of the "John Wick" franchise in his biggest and most badass movie yet. He is bringing his fight against the members of the High Table from around the world, kicking ass and taking names across New York, Paris, Berlin, and Japan. Chad Stahelski is back to continue his directorial dominance, shooting a screenplay from Shay Hatten and Michael Finch, based on characters created by Derek Kolstad. With the addition of Donnie Yen and the promise of anime-influenced fight sequences, it's safe to say "John Wick: Chapter 4" is easily one of the most highly-anticipated releases of the year.

Brendan Fraser is Gold Derby’s odds-on favorite to win the Best Actor Oscar this year for his acclaimed performance as Charlie in A24’s “The Whale,” directed by Darren Aronofsky. The award-winning drama, which tells of a reclusive, obese English teacher trying to reconnect with his teenage daughter (Sadie Sink), allows Fraser to shine in a complex, emotionally demanding role. The film earned Fraser nominations at the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, BAFTAs and Oscars, and last month he won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor. His performance has been celebrated by many critics, including Eric Eisenberg, who says in CinemaBlend, “[Brendan Fraser is] an enchanting performer […] the actor serves as a powerful, bright light in a dark pool of despair.” Fraser does have significant competition at the Oscars, with Austin Butler in “Elvis” and Colin Farrell in “The Banshees of Inisherin” both having won Best Actor trophies at the Golden Globes.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has spent 15 years developing his superhero film “Black Adam” which finally hits theaters on Friday, and based on the reviews, critics found the superhero film “underwhelming,” “super messy” and “baffling.”
In his review of the film, TheWrap’s Alonso Duralde wrote, “That task is the capture of an exceedingly powerful ancient metahuman known as Teth Adam (Dwayne Johnson), and despite the movie’s best efforts to jazz up the increasingly predictable superhero genre — this one doesn’t care if he kills people — “Black Adam” feels like both too much and not enough, and none of its narrative gambits are helped by a sludgy visual style that’s either distractingly artificial or dispiritingly gloomy, except when it manages to be both.”
Johnson produces and stars in “Black Adam,” which is his live-action entry into the DC universe and reunites him with “Jungle Cruise” director Jaume Collet-Serra. The film also stars Pierce Brosnan,...

Jordan Peele’s sci-fi-thriller film “Nope” had its world premiere tonight, and the first reactions are in. Did people like it? As if you even needed to ask. Obviously everyone is saying yes to “Nope.”
“Nope” stars Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer as siblings and residents of a Black-owned ranch in inland California who try to capitalize on the chilling, extraterrestrial activity they witness. Steven Yeun, Michael Wincott, Brandon Perea and Barbie Ferreira also appear in the film, from Monkeypaw Productions and Universal Pictures.
Initial reactions are overwhelmingly positive, as people who saw it are raving about its tone, nods to the ’70s blockbuster era and even celebrating the fact that it might be weird to the point of confusion.

Robert Eggers has done it again with “The Northman.”
The writer-director’s third feature film behind “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse” tells a Viking revenge story based on the same Scandinavian folk tale that inspired Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”
The star-studded cast — including Alexander Skarsgård, Ethan Hawke, Nicole Kidman, Anya Taylor-Joy, Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, and Björk — plus the grueling 87-day production, have propelled “The Northman” to a status of intrigue even before its release.
IndieWire’s Chief Film Critic David Ehlrich wrote, “All you need to know about The Northman — a 90 million viking revenge movie directed by Robert Eggers — is that every single moment of it feels like a 90 million viking revenge movie directed by Robert Eggers.”

Early reactions for “Wonder Woman 1984” are in, and the highly anticipated sequel to Patty Jenkins’ and Gal Gadot’s “Wonder Woman” is raking in the praise.
“I really wasn’t expecting to love #WW84, but it is without a doubt the movie we need right now,” writer and producer Ben Mekler tweeted on Saturday. “Full of wonder, optimism, and a near-fetishistic obsession with 1984’s favorite toy, the koosh ball, Wonder Woman 1984 is quite simply the best DC film since The Dark Knight.”
“I got to watch Wonder Woman 1984 yesterday and… honestly it’s just what I needed. What we all need. It’s uplifting, hopeful, and so utterly Wonder Woman. Just a beautiful film with themes that hit you right in the heart,” Nerdist’s Amy Ratcliffe tweeted.

The movie’s chances of box office success may have been severely hampered by the ongoing effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, but now that Wonder Woman 1984 is heading to HBO Max as well as cinemas on Christmas Day, you can guarantee that millions of families will either be braving the trip to their local multiplex or gathering around their TV at home to watch what was once named as the single most anticipated blockbuster of 2020 back in simpler times.
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see Patty Jenkins’ superhero sequel, which was originally scheduled for November of last year before getting delayed again and again, with one of the major reasons it was decided to send the movie to streaming being the fear that audiences would eventually lose interest if Gal Gadot’s return as Diana Prince was held off for any longer.

Harley Quinn leads her own movie with Birds of Prey, and the early reviews on social media are positive!
These days, DC movies are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're gonna get. Also, it can be messy. Sometimes, there can more than one layer. Can I be candid? I already regret this analogy.
Much of the recent Warner Bros/DC live-action output has been all over the shop, with the studio once again trying to find their feet in a Marvel-heavy cinematic landscape. Suicide Squad (2016) was a disappointment for most, Wonder Woman (2017) did surprisingly well, Justice League (2017) staggered onto screens after a ton of behind the scenes problems, Aquaman (2018) cashed in more than a billion dollars at the global box office despite some middling reviews, and Shazam! (2019) got a solid thumbs up across the board. Meanwhile, Joker lived in its own version of Gotham past,...

Mike Flanagan’s “Doctor Sleep,” the film adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to “The Shining,” is a “tremendous achievement” and a “worthy successor to ‘The Shining,'” critics say.
“[It’s] among the best Stephen King adaptations ever,” CinemaBlend’s Eric Eisenberg wrote,” while Daily Mirror’s Chris Hunneysett called it “thrilling and accomplished.”
‘Doctor Sleep’ is a stunning and frightening film about trauma and substance abuse, it’s a worthy successor to ‘The Shining,'” added Bloody Disgusting’s William Bibbiani. Overall, critics seem to agree that the beginning is a slow burn, but the third act makes it worthwhile.

The film, starring Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and Kyliegh Curran, currently holds a score of 78 percent on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. TheWrap’s own film critic, Robert Abele, didn’t agree with all the praise.

The reviews for Marvel Studio’s “Avengers: Endgame” are in, and the consensus about the end of Marvel’s 10-year, 22 film Infinity Saga is that the 3-hour superhero film is “a Marvel miracle” and a “Crowning Achievement.”

In his review for TheWrap, Alonso Duralde writes, “Avengers: Endgame” has almost nothing on its mind but crossing the Ts and dotting the Is of a far-flung superhero saga, but to anyone with even a minor emotional stake in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it has all the fleeting satisfaction of a shot of whipped cream delivered directly from the spray can. And that’s not a bad thing.”

Most of us have to wait until “Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters Thursday night to find out how Earth’s Mightiest Heroes bounce back from Thanos’ finger-snap in “Infinity War,” but not the lucky bastards who were invited to the Marvel film’s gala premiere Monday night in Los Angeles.
That premiere ended at 10 p.m. Pt, and so did the social media embargo, so you know what that means: Twitter is now flooded with reactions.
So what did they think? Are people who saw it happy and satisfied with what appears to be the conclusion of the original Avengers’ story? Do they hate it? Don’t worry everyone, if the word out of the premiere is anything to go on, you’re going to love “Avengers: Endgame.” (Whew!)

To superhero fans, spotting Stan Lee’s cameo in each of the movies starring the characters he created has become just as important as seeing the films themselves. From the hot dog vendor in the 2000’s X-Men to the dog walking love guru in 2018’s Venom, he’s always added something special to the flicks. X-Men: Dark Phoenix, though, will have no such cameo.
But fear not; there will still be a tribute to The Watcher himself. In an interview with Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg and producer Hutch Parker, CinemaBlend’s Eric Eisenberg gives us the dish, straight from the mouths of the filmmakers:
“We don’t have a cameo. I’d rather say that than then keep it mysterious, out of respect for Stan. We do have some tribute to him, and it’s something that obviously we weren’t thinking about when we were making the movie...

As you’ll see from all the positive buzz, they loved the movie! Several of them talked about the film being filled with surprises that they didn’t see coming, and they praise the actors and the style of the movie. Then there’s Goose the cat who gets a lot of love as well.
I was already excited for the movie, but after reading these reactions from many of my peers, I’m even more excited to see it! I know a lot of people are on the fence about this film; some aren’t really even interested in seeing it. But maybe some of these these reactions will change your mind.
In the end, go see the movie for yourself and form your own opinion.

In just a few short weeks, we’ll be heading into theaters to see Captain Marvel, which will expand the cosmic side of the McU and no doubt set the stage for much of what’s to come after Avengers: Endgame. Unfortunately, though, it seems that the hype train has died down a little bit as of late.
You could blame it on the previews not quite getting across what the character’s really about. Or maybe it’s just in danger of being overshadowed by Endgame. Alternatively, there could just be a bit of origin story fatigue creeping in with comic book movie fans. Whatever the case, it doesn’t look like there’s anything to worry about, as the social media embargo has now lifted and it seems like the critics are head over heels in love with Carol Danvers.

Wreck-It Ralph may not have seemed like the most obvious of choices for the first 21st century Disney animation to get a theatrical sequel, but perhaps the cyberspace adventure of Ralph Breaks the Internet is just a natural place to take this story after the retro video gaming of the first movie.
In any case, the film is almost here and critics are already singing its praises, with the movie currently holding an impressive Rotten Tomatoes score of 92% based on 37 reviews. Reviewers seem particularly pleased with its sendup of Disney’s own legacy, with the likes of Variety and The Verge praising the work for its clever meta-commentary:
Variety (Peter Debruge)
“Ralph is a disruptor by design, and in many ways, he’s the ideal character to bring about the next seismic shift, creating a space where the studio can poke fun at itself, while creating a more enlightened narrative for fans.

We’re excruciatingly close to the release of David Gordon Green’s Halloween, and the signs continue to bode well for this highly anticipated slasher sequel. Back in September, when the flick had its Toronto International Film Festival premiere, we reported a strong early critical reception to Michael Myers’ latest outing, and the enthusiasm from reviewers hasn’t flagged much in the weeks since, with the film currently holding an impressive 85% on Rotten Tomatoes.
This makes the new Blumhouse movie by far the most acclaimed entry in the series since the 1978 original, and while few would argue that it’s the equal of its predecessor, plenty of critics feel it serves as a worthy follow-up to the John Carpenter classic.

Alex Garland’s highly anticipated new film “Annihilation” has begun screening for press, and the first group of reactions shared online are extremely enthusiastic. The film is based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer and marks Garland’s first directorial effort since breaking out with “Ex Machina.” Natalie Portman stars as a biologist who joins a team of female scientists on a mission inside an environmental disaster zone known as Area X. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, and Oscar Isaac so-star.
Anyone familiar with Garland’s brand of disturbing and head-spinning science-fiction (he wrote “28 Days Later” and “Sunshine”) will find much to love in “Annihilation.” Without saying too much, the film is the best kind of challenge and it represents the type of brainy, violent science-fiction most studios wouldn’t dare touch these days. There’s a reason the first round of reactions includes praise like “brilliant,” “riveting,...
