Since we first learned of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's plans for 28 Years Later back in January, news on the movie — the first in a proposed sequel trilogy to Brit zombie horror duology 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later — and the franchise's future has come thick and fast. Last month alone, we shared that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes have joined 28 Years Later's cast, and that Candyman director Nia DaCosta is in talks to helm the second part of the new trilogy. And now we know at last that newly-minted Oppenheimer Oscar winner Cillian Murphy, who was already aboard as an executive producer, will be making a return in front of the camera too.
In an interview with Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman was asked directly whether Murphy — who starred in Boyle's first film as bike courier-turned-Rage virus survivor Jim — would be back for 28 Years Later.

Michael Mann confirmed during his press tour for Ferrari that his next film project would be adapting his novel, Heat 2, which serves as both a sequel and a prequel to his popular 1995 film that famously pitted together legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Not much is known about the film other than Mann being keen to work with Adam Driver again after Ferrari. However, speculation had grown that Elvis’ Austin Butler would be occupying the role of Chris Shiherlis, which had previously been played by Val Kilmer. Then, there would be fuel added to the fire of rumors thanks to a viral video that was making the rounds which shows Butler doing some gun training at Taran Tactical, which is the same facility where Keanu Reeves trains for the John Wick films.

We got word earlier this year that 28 Days Later director (Danny Boyle) and writer (Alex Garland) are teaming up for a series of sequels to the 2002 horror hit, and following the recent news that Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes have signed on to play the lead roles, it's been confirmed that Cillian Murphy will return for 28 Years Later.
There was speculation that Murphy, who won the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance in Oppenheimer, might be set to reprise the role of Jim from the original movie when he signed on as an executive producer, and Sony has now made it official.
"Yes, but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way," Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman told Deadline when asked if Murphy would return. "This is Danny [Boyle] at his best, combined with a very commercial genre,...

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are finally reuniting to make a sequel to their zombie movie classic. As we reporter earlier this year, this sequel is set up at Sony, is going to be called 28 Years Later – and it may even launch a whole trilogy of 28 Days Later sequels. Last year, 28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy said he’d gladly be in a sequel if it was made by Boyle and Garland, and when this project was announced, it was confirmed that Murphy is on board as an executive producer… but as months have gone by and Boyle has assembled the cast, it’s remained unclear whether or not Murphy will actually appear in the movie. Now Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman has told Deadline that Murphy is back for 28 Years Later, but he’s coming back in “a surprising way.

Before "Oppenheimer" fever swept the globe, what was actor Cillian Murphy's best and most recognizable role? Some would point to the ever-popular "Peaky Blinders" and his delightfully Brummie performance as Tommy Shelby. Anyone who offered up his casting as a space-faring physicist in Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" or even his villainous turn in Wes Craven's "Red Eye" would earn my eternal respect. But for many of us, the quintessential zombie flick "28 Days Later" best showed off what Murphy had to offer back in 2002. With plans already in motion for a return visit to that post-apocalyptic world in the sequel "28 Years Later," we've waited with bated breath to see if Murphy himself would reprise his role.
That wait is now over. The talented actor is officially coming back for "28 Years Later," as confirmed by Sony Motion Pictures Group head honcho Tom Rothman in an interview with Deadline.

Cillian Murphy has been confirmed to return for 28 Years Later by Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman.
Speaking to Deadline, the movie executive said Murphy would be back for the first film in the zombie franchise’s new trilogy and vaguely teased the actor would be involved “in a surprising way and in a way that grows.”
Rothman also praised the film as director Danny Boyle “at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver.”
Further addressing 28 Years Later, Rothman emphasized the movie is “not in any way a literal sequel.”
Earlier this year, Murphy was similarly opaque about his potential role in 28 Years Later during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, simply saying, “Watch this space.”

Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reteaming for the long-awaited 28 Years Later horror sequel trilogy, with Cillian Murphy on board as executive producer. But will Murphy, who of course starred in 28 Days Later, be reprising his role? It sounds like the answer is a big Yes.
Speaking with Deadline this week, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman was flat out asked if Cillian Murphy will be back to star, and his answer suggests that is indeed the plan.
“Yes,” Rothman answered, “but in a surprising way and in a way that grows, let me put it that way.”
He continued, speaking more generally about 28 Years Later, “This is Danny at his best, combined with a very commercial genre, like we had with Edgar Wright and Baby Driver. Sometimes when you put a real signature director into a commercial arena, it elevates it.”

Jodie Comer is to headline a brand new thriller from Kenneth Branagh, The Last Disturbance Of Madeline Hynde.
Kenneth Branagh is moving back to the world of thrillers for his next film as director, with the news that he’s picked his next project.
The Oscar-winner is set to direct The Last Disturbance Of Madeline Hynde, described as a new psychological thriller for which he’s also written the screenplay for.
Jodie Comer will be taking in the lead role in the new film, that Branagh has put together as an independent project, just as he and his team did with the Oscar-winning Belfast. The movie is due to start filming in the UK in August of this year, and presumably will be ready for our eyes in 2025. No further casting, outside of Comer’s involvement, has thus far been revealed.

Jodie Comer is heading toward disturbing events after signing on to her latest film project with Kenneth Branagh, The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde. Branagh wrote and will direct the new film. Plot details are scarce, but Deadline’s exclusive report says The Last Disturbance of Madeline Hynde is a contemporary psychological thriller, with production kicking off in August in the UK.
Belfast producers Tamar Thomas, Laura Berwick, Becca Kovacik, Matthew Jenkins, Maximum Effort’s Ashley Fox, and Johnny Pariseau will join Branagh for the new film.
As Deadline points out, Comer’s signing onto the project is a significant boon for Branagh’s latest yarn. She’s an extraordinarily busy actress, so something about Branagh’s project must have caught her attention. After wrapping Killing Eve, Comer joined the cast of the Jeff Nichols crime drama The Bikeriders. Comer plays Kathy in the upcoming film, which also stars Austin Butler,...

A year removed from the start of the WGA strike, we’re just starting to see what recovery looks like. It’s rough: TIFF and AFM were disappointing, and Berlin didn’t offer many appealing talent packages. Projects are taking a long time to come together, if they’re happening at all.
However, Cannes may offer a silver lining: The post-strike market may mean a decline in the annual onslaught of trade announcements for movie projects that go nowhere.
“There’s still a lag in the marketplace where stuff isn’t filming; that’s going to affect what’s going on in production right now,” said one domestic sales agent. “During the WGA strike, a lot of talent had taken a seat and said, ‘What is it we really want from the marketplace? We want a different kind of quality.’ You hear it a lot from actors: ‘We want better movies.

Universal Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming feature film, ‘The Bikeriders.’ The feature was written and directed by Jeff Nichols. We loved the film, and gave it a glowing review.

Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s Blade Runner 2099 sequel series, currently filming in Prague.
Already a veteran of action and science fiction genres, Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh has joined the cast of Amazon Prime Video’s limited TV series, Blade Runner 2099.
Currently, that’s about all we know. Even Deadline, which first published the news, doesn’t know anything useful about the character Yeoh will play or what the series will be about. Sorry about that.
The series has been in development for quite a while, though, given that it’s a sequel to 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 (itself a sequel to Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner), and there’s still nothing to watch roughly seven years on.
Last year’s Hollywood strikes haven’t helped matters. At one point, Amazon Studios was gearing up for production in Northern Ireland, with...

Danny always liked the idea.“ Boyle added, “So we’re talking about it quite seriously, quite diligently. If he doesn’t want to direct it himself I’ll be well up for it if we can execute a similarly good idea.“

Exclusive: After landing the villain role in Ryan Coogler’s next project, Jack O’Connell continues to fill out his dance card. Sources tell Deadline that he is set to join the cast of 28 Years Later, a sequel to 2002’s 28 Days Later. Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes also star in the pic, which is part of a planned trilogy.
Danny Boyle is directing the first movie from a script by Alex Garland. Sony will release the film in theaters globally.
While plot details are vague, the original 28 Days Later, directed by Boyle, written by Garland and released in 2002, centered on a bicycle courier (played by Cillian Murphy) who wakes from a coma to discover the world had been overrun with zombies following the outbreak of a virus. The pic grossed more than $82 million worldwide and led to the 2007 sequel 28 Weeks Later, on which Boyle and Garland served solely as EPs.

One of the most popular fictional characters of all time, Robin Hood, has been at the center of numerous adaptations. From the early days when Errol Flynn played the legendary outlaw to modern adaptations starring big names such as Sean Connery or Kevin Costner (there is even an animated adaptation by Disney), Robin Hood has been an inspiration for filmmakers and it seems that a new movie that will tackle the story is going to be released relatively soon. The Death of Robin Hood will start production next year and will tell the story of an older, guilt-ridden Robin Hood, and as we know now, Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer have signed on to star in the movie.

The End We Start From has unfortunately been marketed as a disaster movie. A new mother's odyssey from sunken London, through the chaos of flooded England, to track down her lost husband. Baby in tow, she battles valiantly to ... That's not really this film. Justifiably, some people who have seen it have been quite disappointed. They were expecting action and adventure, a ripping yarn of epic proportions. What they got was a natural disaster as a metaphor for childbirth and early motherhood.
Jodie Comer's character, Woman, is in the late stages of pregnancy. She is at home alone, just pottering about the house. It starts to rain and then flood. As the water comes in under her door she goes into labour. As she gives birth at the hospital her house is inundated by the deluge. The imagery is laid on pretty heavy handedly. The juxtaposition of birth and torrent.

Hugh Jackman has done wonders for the big screens, and he doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon despite nearing his late fifties. This project is none other than The Death of Robin Hood. And yes, after his dear friend Russell Crowe left behind the mantle following the mixed reviews his 2010 movie on Hood received, Jackman is seemingly picking it back up for his version of Hood. That said, he might as well end up righting the wrongs of the 2010 film with a Logan-like movie on the legendary outlaw hero.

The year 2024 is turning out to be quite the year for Hugh Jackman. The Australian star is making a return to the big screen as everyone’s favorite clawed mutant, Wolverine. The X-Men member has been a mainstay not only in the comics, but also in the movie series, beginning with 2000’s X-Men. It was the latter which catapulted Hugh Jackman to a pedestal from which there was no turning back. The year 2024 marks a return for Jackman to his loved role. But it comes alongside confirmation that he will be making his debut as Robin Hood, as well.

Hugh Jackman makes his anticipated return as Wolverine this summer, but while he is excitingly reprising a beloved role, many agree he also perfectly capped off the popular mutant’s journey in the future-set X-Men sequel, Logan. Logan told the story of a popular anti-hero aging into his older years as he became a more broken-down version of himself. Jackman may not be veering too far off from that theme as he is now set to star in a darker incarnation of the story of literary folk hero Robin Hood.
According to Deadline, Jackman and Jodie Comer are set to star in The Death of Robin Hood. Michael Sarnoski, who directed Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, will be penning and directing the retelling with Arrival and The Prestige producer Aaron Ryder on board to produce the film. Per Deadline, “The film is a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale.

Hugh Jackman and Jodie Comer are heading to Sherwood Forest for one last hurrah.
The “Wolverine” star and the “Killing Eve” actress are attached to star in “The Death of Robin Hood,” a cheery-sounding new film from Michael Sarnoski, the director of the critically-acclaimed “Pig” and this summer’s “A Quiet Place: Day One.”
According to the official logline, the film will find Robin Hood “grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder.” Instead of the merry outlaw seen in certain previous versions of the story like the one portrayed by Errol Flynn, this Robin Hood is “a battleworn loner [who] finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, who offers him a chance at salvation.” It sounds reminiscent of Richard Lester’s elegiac take on the popular story, “Robin and Marian,” a 1976 film starring Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn as a middled-aged Robin Hood and Maid Marian.
