X-Men ’97 has been taking the world by storm, singlehandedly thrusting the X-Men back into the cultural zeitgeist, putting the spotlight back on some of the most beloved characters that Marvel Comics has had. However, there have been certain storylines that have also found their way into the show, some of which have had audiences a little on edge, understandably so.
Rogue and Gambit in X-Men ’97
At the beginning of the show, we see that Rogue and Gambit have been continuing their blossoming romance, and all seems well and good for the couple until Magneto enters the scene with the last will and testament of Charles, which puts Professor X’s considerable wealth, assets and the X-Men in his hands. Ever since he enters the fray, Rogue and Magneto start their own little flirtation on the side, one that seems all sorts of creepy to a slew of fans,...

Not to be one of those insufferable millennials who cries out "Only '90s kids remember," but hot dog do only '90s kids remember the glory of watching "X-Men: The Animated Series," aka the best animated Marvel superhero show of all time. The '90s was a bit of a wasteland of quality superhero offerings in live-action, but animated television was absolutely thriving. "X-Men: The Animated Series" helped turn a group of marvelous mutants into fast-favorites for a new generation, and set the groundwork for what many view as the definitive portrayals of many of the characters. And because everything old is new again, a continuation series, "X-Men '97," is coming our way to Disney+. The series is thankfully not a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning it is picking up where the canon of the series finale left off in 1997 with "Graduation Day."

Magnet Releasing, the genre arm of Magnolia Pictures, has acquired North American rights to “What You Wish For,” a new suspense-horror film written and directed by Nicholas Tomnay.
The film stars Nick Stahl (Showtime’s “Let the Right One In”) and had its world premiere at Fantasia Festival. Tamsin Topolski (“Slow Horses”) and Randy Vasquez (“America Has Fallen: Election Day”) also star. Magnet plans to release the film this summer. Tomnay previously co-wrote and directed “The Perfect Host,” which starred David Hyde Pierce.
In “What You Wish For,” Stahl plays Ryan, a talented chef whose crushing gambling problems prompts him to leave town in a hurry for the safe haven of an unnamed Latin American country. There, his friend Jack (Brian Groh), a more prestigious chef with his own unique troubles, welcomes him into his home. Ryan has no idea how Jack’s able to afford his extravagant lifestyle, and...

"I know the truth." Magnet has revealed an official trailer for a film titled Baby Ruby, which premiered at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival last fall. It will be out in US theaters starting in early February. The film marks the directorial debut of actress / playwright Bess Wohl, telling the story of a woman who brings her new baby home. Here's the TIFF intro: Jo is a young lifestyle influencer with the kind of renovated home, handsome husband, and picture-perfect, aspirational nursery that make her followers envy her. Typically in control of herself and everyone in her radius, Jo prepares for the arrival of her baby, Ruby, by planning her own flawless baby shower and vlogging every step along the way. Soon, however, the chaos of postpartum recovery and new motherhood throws Jo's routines and relationships into disarray. The film stars Noémie Merlant and Kit Harington, with Meredith Hagner and Jayne Atkinson.

As if the new Alphas weren’t bad enough, someone else is going on a killing spree — and no virgin is safe!
The hunt for Cora and Boyd continued on the June 17 episode of Teen Wolf, but because not even Isaac (Daniel Sharman) and his high-fashion scarf could stop them, the pack called upon Team Argent for back-up. And while Allison (Crystal Reed) and her blue-eyed papa were eventually able to lead the boys to victory, their success came with a few complications.
The fight climaxed at Beacon Hills High School, where Boyd and Cora immediately targeted that lovely young teacher we met on the season premiere. (First the bird attack, and now this? That poor teacher really deserves a raise.) Fortunately, Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) let himself be their scratching pole until the sun came up, at which point they fell asleep, and will probably wake up feeling really awkward.

The Samurai Trilogy (Criterion) Director Hiroshi Inagaki’s sprawling epic filmed from 1954-56 is an early Japanese Technicolor masterpiece, rivaling the scope of filmmakers like David Lean and Luchino Visconti. Toshiro Mifune, Japan’s greatest actor, stars as real-life swordsman, artist and writer Musashi Miyamoto, following his growth from callow youth to disciplined warrior. The three films: the Oscar winning “Musashi Miyamoto,” “Duel at Ichijoji Temple,” and “Duel at Ganryu Island” are an incredible story of human growth, tender love and sublime, blood-soaked action. Not to be missed. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Interviews with translator and historian William Scott Wilson; Trailers. Full screen. Dolby 1.0 mono.

127 Hours (20th Century Fox) Harrowing true story of Aron Ralston (James Franco, in another fine turn), an extreme outdoorsman who finds himself trapped in a remote Utah canyon, his arm pinned between two boulders, with no help nearby, no communication to the outside world, and dim prospects for survival, to say the least. Director Danny Boyle manages to prove again that he’s one of the finest filmmakers working today by making a subject that is seemingly uncinematic a true example of pure cinema. Inventive, breathtaking, funny, and horrifying, often all at once. Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara make a memorable, brief appearance as hikers who connect with Ralston during his journey. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Boyle, producer Christian Colson, co-writer Simon Beaufoy; Deleted scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS-hd 5.1 surround.

It's a wrap! The Martin Gropius Bau is empty and the final pickups follow. This is a work in progress and readers are invited and welcome to contribute. Presales have returned in reaction to the reduced number of finished films on offer over the past two markets. Presales applies across the board from Us to French and even Italian films. English language films are increasingly coming out of the major non English language territories but local product is impacting sales on Us films internationally. Business was quickly wrapped up but it was done with a healthy number of buys reported. Lower prices have become accepted but the market must have product as this event proved.

Yesterday it was a kick ass trailer for Ong Bak 2 and now it appears we have the female Tony Jaa in Yanin Visimitanada as she teams with the director of the first Ong Bak film Prachya Pinaew in Chocolate, a film about an autistic girl to settle her ailing mother's debts by seeking out the ruthless gangs that owe her family money. Basically it's a porn for the martial arts enthusiast and it looks like it could be a lot of fun. Magnet is releasing Chocolate in theaters on February 6 and then on VOD and DVD adn Blu-ray and February 10. Watch the trailer below.
